Best Fall Restaurant Dishes in Bucks County

"The Historic Piper Tavern in Pipersville is known for its snapper soup au sherry, a rich and flavorful soup with a slight peppery taste. Accompany this fan favorite with the filet medallions with garlic butter entree or shrimp and scallop scampi for a memorable meal at this inviting, historic restaurant." - Kristen Kwiatkowski

Passing through the town, stopped in at this gem. Great spot, sat at the bar, Luna was a knowledgeable, hospitable and friendly bar tender. Food was delicious. Beef cooked perfectly abd the crabcake texture was wonderful. Highly recommend!

Google
This place has always given a great fairly priced meal. I go here maybe 1-2 times a year. This time however we got the pulled pork nachos which came out cold and looked/tasted very sad. Felt like they had been sitting out for a day. Next was the crab soup which tasted like it was directly from a can with some crab sprinkled on top. The entrees however were delicious and really made up for it. The filet with the bleu cheese is out of this world and a fan favorite every time we go. Even with the appetizers being so sub par, I’ve had many good experiences here in the past and will go again to try something else on the menu. Great beer selection as well.

Google
Good food in a cool historic building. Service was a bit spotty as our server wasn't told we were there and it took a trip to the hostess stand to get us waited on. But overall that wasn't a deal breaker, just a miscommunication. They have a good menu and interesting martinis and cocktails. Scallops were delicious. We'll definitely go back.

If you're anywhere near Doylestown, PA, do yourself a favor and check out the Historic Piper Tavern. This place is a true hidden gem! The food is always fresh and tastes like it’s straight from someone’s home kitchen—comforting, flavorful, and made with care. Prices are super reasonable too. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. You can tell they really take pride in what they do. It’s the kind of place where you feel like a regular, even if it’s your first visit. I love bringing my whole family here, especially for special occasions. It’s got that cozy, relaxed vibe that makes everyone feel at home. Highly recommend!

Google
My husband and I went there for the first time. The clam casino were great. The calamari was ok but under seasoned. The service was excellent. The only thing that I would complain about is that the steaks aren't seasoned before cooking. The cuts of meat are really nice but really bland. If they seasoned them, they would be excellent. The bread that came with the salad was awesome.

Nothing pretentious but fabulous food Especially loved the corn, chicken, crab chowder and the seafood cakes with crab, lobster, scallops and shrimp ❤️

Google
The food, service and the atmosphere at the Historic Piper Tavern are always excellent. Our only issue yesterday thd day before Easter was that when I called two weeks ago to make the reservation for 4, I asked if the Easter Sunday menu would be available the day before as I was making a reservation for Saturday and had seen Rack of Lamb on the Sunday menu. I was told yes and so I made the reservation. But when we arrived we were given the regular menu. Mikayla who is an excellent waitress, read us the specials and Lamb wasn't a special either. 3 of us were very disappointed. Then to be charged 75 cents for an extra dinner roll with the prices charged is appalling. But we still love the restaurant and will return.

Google
Yet another awesome place for dinner. Great service great food and great overall experience. If your looking for a night out with your better half or have a big party this is a great sport. They have smaller tables on the first floor. The second floor offers you a bigger space for a private party.

Awesome service and great food. We were here for a birthday dinner and it was awesome

Yelp
Solid old beautiful Tavern located in Bedminster township. I've driven by the building many times and I finally stopped in for dinner with my mother. It was a great evening for their outdoor dining, but I wanted to see and experience the inside of the building. Once inside the front entrance we walked past the bar area. It was clean and looked like a great time to have a drink and a meal. The hostess was just past the bar and the open line kitchen was just behind her. I was asked if I had a reservation. When I said no, the young lady hesitated, but seated us in the main dining room anyway. As she went to seat us there was an extremely rude server who made a face at her and was shaking her head. I don't want to get into workplace politics, but it obviously became a conversation with the rest of the staff. (To the server who wears some sort of phone or radio band around your neck I would say shame on you. Act professional, do NOT make customers feel uncomfortable. I spent the rest of my meal feeling a bit unwelcomed.) Our server (different person) came over shortly after and was awesome to deal with. She went over the menu and sold me on the Seared Crabcakes Benjamin - $29 - The "Toast of the Tavern." Twin four ounce cakes loaded with jumbo lump crabmeat. Rumor has it, the recipe came from Ben Franklin himself..... and the upgraded Snapper soup for $3.25 The Tavern Master's peppery favorite, we're told simply the best. My mother had the Shrimp and Scallop Scampi over angel hair for $25. The soup was a big portion, peppery indeed, but not overpowering and had a medium body (wasn't too thin, yet not like a bisque either). I thought it was well made and added a shot or two of sherry to give it some balance. The seared crabcakes were tasty, light on the filler, loaded with crabmeat and cooked just right. The dip wasn't good, but the veggies and mashed potatoes were. My mother enjoyed her meal and we were stuffed! Overall we had a great dinner and the inside of the building is beautiful. Kudos to the tall young lady who seated us! I'll make a reservation next time :)

Yelp
Handmade pierogies with grilled onions were very good. Piper salad and cooked veg came with meal, roll was served warm. Blackened Salmon was nicely blackened, and good, esp with fresh lemon. Mashed potatoes were amazing, cooked veg came with meal. Last time crab & chicken corn chowder, filet mignon with caesar salad, homemade dressing. Friend enjoyed burger, fries overcooked. Manager was very professional, service was good.

Yelp
We have been enjoying trying all of the Historic Taverns in the area. We were passing by on a Friday night and weren't sure if we would get in without a reservation, but they were very accommodating. There was a mix of people dressed up with others more casual. You can eat in the bar area or dining room - both set up very nice. Everyone who worked there was super friendly and knowledgeable. Salad came with the dinner - the house salad and creamy apple cider vinegrette was excellent - for a small up charge my husband got the Ceasar salad, also delicious and both came with a really yummy warm roll. My filet was cooked perfect, very tender and the crab cake was crispy. The veggies on the side were cooked perfect not mushy and very flavorful. So was the mashed potato that comes on the side. Even though we were full once the dessert tray came around we had to share something and give it a try. The "cookie lava cake" came recommended as their most popular dessert so we went with that. It was good - not great. The cookie had more of a muffin texture and the chocolate inside wasn't really lava bUT it was still good and of course we ate it all. The bill was a lot cheaper than most restaurants these days, and it was a great overall experience, Can't wait to go back

Yelp
I fell in love with this restaurant during the pandemic. It became one of our go to places for great food and great service. And I loved the outdoor patio. Hadn't gotten there until now this summer and both my husband and I were very disappointed in our meal. The predominant flavor in both our entrees and my soup was salt. Other than salt everything was rather flavorless. Our waitress was attentive, but mostly seemed to want to hurry us out. No offer of dessert.

Yelp
Ordered lunch today with a coworker and they were unwilling to spilt our order with two cards. They explained that it's policy because on days when they are busy it is too much (not busy at the time we were ordering). To me this is a deal breaker, because as a former server I know that this is not too much to ask. Two stars given because at least the food was decent!

Yelp
The food we had was excellent. My wife and I have been here half a dozen times over the years. The ambiance is that of an older Inn and is quite nice! Mary had the Salmon dish and I chowed down a steak. Both were 4-5 star items. We drank Jim Beam bourbon but they have many kinds of bourbons. Service was excellent. Waitress took good care of us. Plenty of parking. Window seating was nice. I would rate the pricing $$$. Credit cards are accepted. Bar area is unique. Enjoy this neat Inn.

Yelp
First time here. Great variety on the menu. Food was extremely good. Cocktails were excellent. Service was excellent. Went on a Tuesday night and it was nearly full. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
Appetizers were excellent Had: Clams casino, steamed clams Entrée was: Fish & Chips which was two moist and decent size fillets. However they they were breaded not battered. Dissatisfied with this.

Yelp
We come here almost once a month and for nearly every special occasion. Never had a bad meal yet, although I will say our calamari tonight was a little chewy and basic as far as flavor. We'll stick to the stuffed mushrooms going forward as they've never failed to satisfy. Highly recommend! Dine with confidence!

Yelp
Had a great first experience at the Piper Tavern! I cannot say enough good things about our waitress Mailee (not sure if I'm spelling that right) she was super nice and personable and made sure to help us with any needs we had ! She was definitely one of the best waitresses I've had and worked extremely hard from taking our order, running food, busing and wrapping our leftovers. She did it all. The rest of the staff was also super friendly and welcoming! They had a fairly extensive menu and all entrees came served with a salad, a vegetable and potato. The vegetable was summer squash and mashed potatoes. I order the crab cakes which was a pair of fully loaded crab cakes with chunks of fresh crab. My dad wanted steak and ordered the trio of filet - which was so unbelievably tender it could be cut with a butter knife. Everything was perfectly cooked and tasty. The ambiance is nice there's a dining room as well as a tavern/ bar area and there is also outdoor seating for those that like that! I'd definitely recommend and look forward to coming back.

Yelp
Walked in on a Friday night and sat at a high top around the bar area. Ambiance was spot on-very comfy and old school. Eric was our server, he was very friendly and not intrusive. The food was awesome--filet cooked perfectly as was the veal, but could have used just a touch more seasoning (salt). Mashed potatoes & veggies were also good. Beer was ice cold. Would 100% recommend!

Robert B.

Yelp
Anniversary dinner was enjoyed tonight. Veal Romano and Veal Anna were our entree choices - each were excellent as was the service. We dined outside the main dining room which was just as tasteful as the dining room- beautiful area !! Snapper soup is a joy to behold. Making this our ' go to ' restaurant.
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
The Snapper soup is NOT REAL SNAPPER soup!!!! Zero meat. Broth is laden with something very sweet like molasses - waitress agreed this was a common complaint. I stopped going here several years ago = long before Covid excuses...because they admitted the soup was not authentic - like their original soup. Well, I asked the waitress this time to confirm it is ORIGINAL AUTHENTIC Snapper soup - "oh, yes!" Thanks for the head fake! The FDA mandates restaurants can call a soup a "said soup" even if it only has 1% of..in this case..snapper juice. Cheap restaurants take advantage of this..whether it's snapper, lobster/shrimp bisque - 1% juice, NO meat, you can call it whatever you pretend to scam customers of what they think they are getting for a PREMIUM price. Very dishonest, low class moves.. Btw the entrees were merely average. The French onion soup was weak. Never returning. STOP LYING/BRAGGING about your FAKE SNAPPER SOUP! Time to take the BS signs down and take it off the menu!!!

Mike A.

Yelp
As a local this was our go to llace. Not anymore. Food was not what you pay for. Service was good but below average food quality. Cactus Grill down the road is much better.

Kim H.

Yelp
Food was great, service good The outside dining was very nice. Also have eaten inside, quite comfortable.

Yelp
Wanted to give a huge shout out to Piper Tavern and their staff, especially Sarah & Leah. We had our wedding rehearsal dinner there, and it was top-notch in every way. The food was outstanding, it was hot, it was delicious and it was plentiful! The service was great and they were so attentive to our needs. Even on a busy Thursday night, we felt like we were the only ones in the restaurant. It was delightful, our room was spacious and perfect for a gathering of 25 people. And I could not say more about the accommodating staff. Thank you Alexis for everything you did in advance to help us prepare, and we will certainly be back as regular diners. And made a few extra believers in all things Piper from those that were in our wedding party. Thank you for a delightful evening! 5+ Stars for sure. Bourbon Street Steak, Smoked Salmon Chicken Marsala

Yelp
the late lunch my wife and I had was delicious. the service was at least a four the tavern could use some renovation, the ceilings are in need of paint or replacement, the windows inside could use some pint work. Outside the tavern needs a clean up and some serious painting. I gave it a five star rating because the food was delicious the service was a four, I think the waitress was a little new at her job. overall we'd go back. You might want to stop by and find out for yourselves. Cheers!

Yelp
Delicious food and cool place! We had the shrimp and scallops appetizer and the filet bites for the entree, both were great, although the salad I could do without, it just boring spring mix with some tomatoes. Drinks are pricey and just okay. 1 star off for the wait even though we had a reservation

Yelp
Had a wonderful first experience at the Piper Tavern in Pipersville last night! Have nothing negative to say, it was all great - ambiance, food, and service. The set up of the tables were nice and spread apart from each other. I had the Jumbo Lump Crab Au Gratin and it was excellent and the Moscato was the best I've ever had. We were a party of 4 seniors and all were very happy and will definitely be back.

Jeff A.

Yelp
I'm a longtime customer of this establishment. Over the years quality has gone up and down. But it has always been passable. We just went for a curbside to go order. To say it was disappointing would be generous. Let's start with the good. Piper burger/ fries were good, as Always. Fried shrimp was barely decent. In the to go box, everything steamed up, so the shrimp all got soggy and the coating fell off. Cocktail sauce frozen. But the worst, really the worst, is the pizza. It is the hands down most brutalized version of pizza I've ever tasted. Myself, my wife and my son all tried a slice. You'll see in the photo how far we got. This does not pass for pizza in high school, not even prison. Sad

Yelp
Lovely environment at Piper Tavern today to celebrate Mother's Day. Ordered the branzino. Very good but disappointed on portion size, about 3oz for $39. I made note to the server but management never came by to comment on subject. Otherwise, a very good meal. I went home and had a hamburger. Stay away from the fish.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Great drinks and comprehensive menu. Horse themed decor is fun. Professional staff day and night. Quality place.

Yelp
Good food and a lovely atmosphere, eat at the bar or in one of the more formal dining rooms, there is also outside seating. Plenty of parking.

Yelp
Great food, great service! Always consistent! Love it! The ambiance is very warm & cozy

Yelp
Outstanding menu with quality food reasonably priced Love the soup for app Almost anything is yummy Great bar drinks with a great atmosphere

Yelp
This is hands down my favorite restaurant. I've never had a bad meal, whether it's for a celebration or just a casual dinner out with my daughter. I wish other reviewers would have a little compassion for restaurant owners and staff these days. An ounce of patience can go a long way when your servers and chefs have been working doubles because they are understaffed! I will certainly be back again and again, and if you haven't been yet, I suggest you go!

Yelp
This was about half way between Easton and Philadelphia right off PA 611. The Piper Inn is a historic tavern circa somewhere around 1757. They have done a great job updating it but keeping a Colonial feel. Service was really outstanding. Our servers were young, but much more professional and attentive than someone without years of experience. We wanted a leisurely meal so made reservations for 5PM. There were plenty of tables open when we arrived. By the time we left, it was packed. I had a martini to start. At first I was disappointed in the size. It was a little smaller than I expected. But o noticed there was a small carafe with a second serving in it. So, the size was actually good. I started with their Piper Salad - mixed greens, cucumber, cranberries and a few other things in a Dijon vinaigrette. They were generous on the dressing, but it tasted pretty good. For the main course I chose their Bay Scallops. The dinner consisted of seven plump scallops. Cooked well (not overcooked) but lacking in flavor. They forgot my vegetable, but brought it out quickly when we asked. Too much food to try a desert. But, we did have coffee. Not too bad. Their menu had many options. I think scallops are tricky so don't always fault a chef when they are not perfect. I would certainly return but think I would go for one of their other entrees next time.

Megan F.

Yelp
Our favorite for special occasions. Gluten free items clearly marked and super helpful staff.

Abby B.

Yelp
This review is based on our experience today - Mother's Day. We have dined here many times over the years and the service and cuisine have always been excellent. That was not the case today. We were on time for our reservation- party of 3. Once seated, we were told our served Luna would be right with us. After 15 minutes, she stopped by. We asked for a wine list and she disappeared for another 10 minutes- finally informing us that they had to print one up. 5-10 minutes later, we finally had it - but she disappeared again for another 10 minutes. After ordering drinks, I asked her to bring bread - she never did. Another 15 minutes went by and we finally ordered. She always seemed rushed and inattentive with us- unacceptable. The food is amazing as always. When dessert came, she did not ask if we wanted coffee. We noticed larger parties were getting more prompt attention and service. Very disappointing. It was busy but all the other servers seemed attentive to their tables. We won't be back...

Yelp
I made a reservation at this restaurant for my Mom's Birthday (as we have been there before, and loved it!) When we arrived, we had to wait a little bit (even though there was NO ONE there in the restaurant itself), but perhaps they were getting our table ready. We requested to sit in the porch, and it's a beautiful area there. Our waitress was really nice, helpful, and even complimented my phone case. :) I enjoyed all the martinis we ordered (my Nana got the Buff Martini - which was Finlandia, Bailey's Irish Cream, and Kahlua, delicious!), my Mom and I both ordered the Malibu Martini (Mandarin vodka, Malibu rum, cranberry juice, and pineapple juice), and my fiance ordered a merlot. We all enjoyed that our drinks came with a small side car of extra alcohol on ice. :) My Mom and I both got the Baked Onion Soup as a starter, and it was delicious! My Grandmother got the house salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing, and my fiance got the Caesar salad, they both loved theirs. For Lunch, I ordered the veal parm (which was a HUGE helping, it was amazing!!) and it also came with some mashed potatoes, carrots, and green beans. Very very good! My Mom and fiance both ordered the butcher block filet mignon sandwich, and both thought it was delicious! My Nana got the roasted turkey with stuffing and she loved it. For dessert, my Mom and Nana split the Pina Colada cake, and my fiance and I had the chocolate bourbon cake. My fiance had tea (in his own cute little pot which he loved), and my Mom, Nana, and I all had decaf coffee. We were very happy with our meals!!

Izzy S.

Yelp
Bartender was very nice. Great atmosphere. Clean. Other patrons seemed happy as well. Very beautiful exterior too.

Deb D.

Yelp
The food is wonderful and the drinks are fabulous! Our favorite bartender, Liz, makes wonderful libations for everyone's taste!

Yelp
The Piper tavern is very good. Historic, beautiful dining room and small bar area. The food is great, as is the service. Reasonably priced. Would surely recommend!

Yelp
We brought in family and friends to enjoy an early dinner after visiting the nearby Shrine of Czestochowa. Reservations were made for 10 people for 5 p.m. This was on a Sunday, early evening, and we arrived on time. There were 4 other tables when we arrived. Not busy at all. We asked the waitress if she could do separate checks & she replied no, but we could each pay separately with our cards at the end of the meal. From that point on, her attitude toward us changed. She took our orders and eventually, the appetizers came out. They were very good, but then we waited for our food. We had to ask for bread and refills on our drinks. We waited and waited, and no explanation from our waitress nor apology for the delays. An hour and a half later, our food finally came out. By this time, we were very dismayed at how we were being treated Unfortunately, some of the food was cold when it did finally arrive. When the check arrived, it was put all together in such a way that made it difficult to determine how much each couple should be charged. Then we were told that we would have to pay with cash! The owner/manager (Jessica?) took off one dinner because it was so bad, but she then made comments that "she didn't want people like us in her restaurant" & she also said she "didn't want us to come back". The extremely long wait for our food, having to pay with cash at the last minute, and the overall attitude of the owner/manager warrants this negative review & warning. Go somewhere else. You're better off!

Jessie A.

Yelp
Disgusting. The carpet stinks. There is a broken-down RV and a headless leggless gargoyle. The clams were off and tasted horrible. The trout was like a dry stick. The cheapest entree for lunch was $28. It was totally empty and like a funeral home. My martini tasted like water and my Mother's wine was $13 for a 6 ounce glass. Ridiculous. I will never go back.

My Yelp R.

Yelp
This review is solely based on our experience there on Saturday 5/8. We arrived with reservations at 6pm. Not once during the phone call when the reservations were made did the person say to call from the car. When we arrived we checked in and the hostess was clearly agitated. I went to the front of our group and she assumed I cut in line I front of the 5 other people in my party. I quickly told her I was with them and that's not something I would do. She gave me a snippy response. Some time passed and the bar area filled up. She yelled loudly "this can't be happening here can some of you leave or just wait outside??'" Wow. We heard so many people make comments about not even staying because of her rudeness. Everyone was masked. On the way to the table she made some comment to my father that she didn't have all day because he was walking slow. At this point I wanted to really tell her off but refrained from doing so to not make a scene. She was already doing that herself. Our waitress was wonderful as was our food. We spent over 300.00 here but it would have been much more enjoyable if the woman checking everyone in was respectful. She was just awful and she seemed to drag the enjoyment out of the night. This needs to be addressed! Very unprofessional and very much unacceptable!

Yelp
Great soups and entrees. Cheerful staff in a historic old tavern. Had a amazing bourbon street steak. With chicken noodle soup

Derek F.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing place. My girlfriend and I randomly stumbled upon this place on our travels through and it couldn't of been any better of an experience. The food was flawless and the staff were very friendly. We hope to make it back someday to try even more off the menu.

Yelp
I honestly don't know how this place only averages 3.5 stars. My wife and I re-visited the Piper Tavern last night for a late dinner. We had not dined there in nearly 2 years. And I am glad to say, the only thing that has changed is the menu. I wouldn't think it possible, but it has improved. Except for the disappearance of my favorite, the Lobster Bisque. That being said, we had the best dinner either of us can recall EVER having enjoyed. Our memorable visit started with quick, friendly service at the bar immediatley as we entered the tavern, by the beautiful and friendly bartender, "Gabby". 20 minutes later our table was ready at the reserved time. Appetizers: Stuffed Mushrooms and "The Taverns Version of Hot Wings." Entrees: Beef & Reef and Seafood Cakes Cardinale. Both with a House Salad, sides of mashed potatoes and asparagus. Along with a couple of glasses of wine and post meal coffee. The bill was $99.00. Yes, under a hundred dollars. Thank you to our very courteous and efficient Server, James. We look forward to our next visit.

Frederick D.

Yelp
Very disappointed. We had 6 pm reservations for six. The temperature was 75 degrees plus inside. Apparently their a/c cannot do better. We were sweating throughout our meal. The waitress was in obvious distress because of the heat. My wife ended up getting nauseated because of it. Even the water was warm. I would recommend staying away during hot days.

Yelp
We were there for a 4 p.m. Thanksgiving dinner. Absolutely the worst experience ever. We waited for 45 minutes before getting a server to get our drink orders. The appetizers were a joke. They came out 2 stuffed mushrooms at a time. We had about 18 people in our group. Some of us ordered the turkey dinner .... big mistake! The turkey was processed. Digusting! Paying $26.00 for processed turkey food. I could have a gotten a better turkey sandwich from Wawa. Very dissapointing. I don't know how the Chef actually thought that it was acceptable to serve to anyone. Embarrassing for what seemed to be a nice restaurant. I will not be returning or referring this restaurant to any one.

Yelp
Have wanted to eat here since moving to Bucks Co. years ago. Finally, we had a late lunch on Memorial Day weekend. I now wish we hadn't waited so long. Apps: had the smoked salmon & river trout with capers, pickled onion and horseradish SOS. Didn't need the sauce because the trout was one of the best I've had on the planet - this is a staple of my menu selections when traveling globally for business. Kids shared Calamari and BBQ sliders, they vanished in seconds. Went simple with the Piper Burger, sans bun but crazy delicious prep w/horseradish sauce. Would have given 5* if not for the very slow service. Cant ding them because they had signs posted everywhere looking for servers - for obvious reasons - a few kids that while slow were very polite. We'll be back.

Yelp
Service was good , However my friend I went to lunch there last week , we both had soup , French onion and chicken noodle which both were were good . We spilt some kinda chicken sandwich and calamari both were extremely disappointing.

Yelp
I'm always the first to complain about something at restaurants. Not here! The dinner was great, the steaks are cooked EXACTLY to the temperature requested. The courses are timed perfectly and the staff is very friendly.

Yelp
Came in from Madison WI for a family visit and my in-laws brought us over for a late lunch and it was incredible. I had the schnitzel and it was out of this world. Everyone at the table loved their meals and we were served quickly and our food was hot. We were all stuffed and did not have room for dessert so hopefully we will come with more of an appetite when we visit this coming summer for our next visit. Very happy with our dining experience!

Joe S.

Yelp
Up until last night, this was my favorite restaurant. We have been going here for years. I have now officially had our first bad experience here. They seemed grossly understaffed, as the service was lacking. The portions belonged on the kids menu! The soup could have been served in a shot glass. the salad might have been 3 forkfuls. The drinks were great, though it is tough to mess up! We have raved about the Piper, and brought many friends here. We were mortified, and looked like jerks to our friends. We won't be back, until we hear things have changed. What should have been an hour meal, ended up being a "three hour tour"! What happened to this place?

Yelp
I stopped here on the way home from hiking. The bar is cozy and the beef stroganoff is PERFECT.

Yelp
Excellent meal, beer and service. Drove from Newtown and it was well worth the ride! Can't wait to come back.
