Haunted Restaurants, Bars, and Hotels in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"The former Roswell Public House on Atlanta Street was home to the nearby mill’s commissary during the 1800s and served as a Union hospital throughout the Civil War. As the story goes, a soldier fell in love with a Southern nurse at the hospital. He was later killed by Confederate soldiers. The young nurse was so grief stricken, she hanged herself on the town green across the street. Over the decades, occupants of the building have heard voices and a piano playing, seen the pair dancing in the loft, and witnessed objects moving. Some have even reported seeing a figure in the upstairs window and a woman walking in the kitchen. The former public house has also been home to several restaurants over years, including Peasant Restaurant, J.Christopher’s, and, most recently, A-Street Restaurant. The ground floor space at Roswell Public House where these restaurants once occupied remains empty for now, but ghost tours in the suburban Atlanta city might make a stop here." - Beth McKibben

My mother was at Historic Roswell for over 5 years. She started off on the second floor in assisted living, then later she moved through various levels of care, ending up for the last few years in memory care. Therefore, I have extensive experience with all levels of care here. I researched facilities all over Metro Atlanta prior to moving her to Historic Roswell, with a willingness to have her live anywhere in the Atlanta area and without any specific upper-level budget in mind. I chose Historic Roswell out of all the facilities in the Atlanta area (I probably visited over 20 widely dispersed facilities). In retrospect, Historic Roswell was absolutely the right choice. This is an excellent facility. Not one of these types of facilities is perfect, but the thing that puts Historic Roswell head and shoulders above the others is this: The people at Historic Roswell really and truly care about the residents, and this isn’t some kind of fake caring – it is absolutely genuine. My mother wasn’t very outgoing. In fact, she was somewhat reclusive. But the staff at Historic Roswell went out of their way to get to know her and to look after her, and they really cared about how she was doing on a daily basis. When her health stared to decline, they would check on her constantly, going far above and beyond what any family member could reasonably expect. People who were in administrative functions, who weren’t even technically caregivers, would check on her, talk to her, and help her. When I would arrive at the facility each day, I would see various Historic Roswell people throughout the facility (Clarice, Vonda, Saron and others) and they would each give me updates on how my mom was doing, they would tell me what they had been doing for her that day, etc. This level of genuine compassion and caring, which is extremely hard to find, should be the primary thing you want in a facility like this. No reasonable person would ever trade this level of caring and compassion for a facility that is deficient in that regard but that might have (say) more modern toilets. Although none of these types of facilities will give you perfection, Historic Roswell will give you true excellence in terms of caring and compassion, and if you are trying to understand why it is rated so highly on Google and elsewhere, that’s it.

My Mom is so happy and well cared for at Historic Roswell Place. She’s been a resident in Memory Care for two and a half years and made lots of friends. And the staff is so friendly and attentive. We are happy we selected this location to care for our Mom.

This place was so special to us. Although my father did not get to enjoy his time as long as he hoped he was made to feel so comfortable and welcomed. He left his home of 47 years and this was the ONLY place he was willing to do that for and once he was here he never looked back. Thank you for making my Pops last months so warm and special and for all the love and hospitality you provided both him and my family This place will forever hold a special place in our hearts

I am a caregiver whose client and family were unhappy with the assisted living facility she was currently resident of. After many hours of research and tours, they decided on Historic Roswell Place (HRP), which was a great decision. When you enter you receive a warm welcome from the concierge. The facility itself is bright and beautifully decorated. HRP offers a variety of activities for the residents. The staff is friendly, caring and engaging. Should your loved one reach the stage in life where they can no longer live alone, I would encourage your family to consider Historic Roswell Place (HRP).

My mom is in the memory care unit. She has been in several facilities and this one has been the best for her. I know she's comfortable and happy there which is a huge relief. I would recommend HRP for those families considering care for their loved ones.

I lived there for a year and wish I never left. The stuff is fantastic and there’s a lot good activities with really nice special parties and music. If it wasn’t for my son id still be there. I enjoyed everything about my time there.

Google
Historic Roswell Place is absolutely the BEST assisted living in the Roswell/ East Cobb area. I looked a 7 different places in the area before I checked out this one for my George. He loves it here. The place is beautiful...just recently redecorated with comfy furniture, new carpet, freshly painted & 2 beautiful patios. The rooms are lovely with 2 big closets and lots of shelving in the bathroom. The kitchenette has a fridge, microwave and lots of cabinet and drawer space. The staff is amazing. They are so kind and caring and have taken such good care of George! The food is excellent & George is always telling me how much he enjoys it (and he is a picky eater). Arlene, the executive director is always responsive to any questions I may have & responds promptly. Before Covid-19, there were lots of parties, singers and activities - Christmas, Valentines Day, St. Patrick's Day, Memorial Day cook-outs, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc that always included families. Now, they are just for the residents - and weekly there is bingo, trivia, movies, Happy Hour (George's favorite), Chef demos, ice cream socials, singers (outside), Book club, etc. Lisa, the amazing activities director, always has something planned for the residents. The location is perfect and residents feel like they are a part of the community of Roswell as there is always activity going on around them that they can watch from the porch.

Great staff, you can see the love that they have for the residence. But most of all how they shared their pass that was much laughter and joy. Also, pretty good place.

Yelp
Do NOT put your loved one in Memory Care at Historic Roswell Place. My mom was here and significantly declined due to lack of care and neglect. There was a high turnover rate of care givers and other staff. Costs increased almost 20% within a year. The memory care is on the third floor of this old run down building, and she hardly ever saw daylight. They'll lure you in with a big song and dance, and then they'll put them in wheelchairs and they just sit there forgotten. Promises of 'activities, field trips, walks, porch visits'. It was sad and depressing every visit, and the third floor smells like pee. My mom was spry and could walk fine when she got there, and when we finally left for good not even a year later, we had to wheel her out because she never walked around and lost abilities, she was unbathed for weeks, and with a UTI. It's quite a shame. No one there, including the employees, are truly happy.

Yelp
This place has become very rundown. It is lipstick on a pig. Look deeper and you will find filthy bathrooms, the smell of marijuana everyone, constant staff turnover, and an upper leadership team that doesn't care and is checked out. Run, don't walk, from this place until they do a serious overall and have new management.

Yelp
Historic Roswell Place is by far the best assisted living in the Roswell/East Cobb area. My George has been there for the past 1 1/2 years and absolutely loves it. The staff are caring and responsive, the food is excellent and varied, the rooms are lovely and the facility has just undergone a major renovation with new carpet, beautiful and comfy new furniture and new paint throughout. There 2 patios, and 2 porches that have new beautiful seating also and a new theatre room. The Wellness center does an amazing job in caring for the health needs of the residents. There is exercise class every morning except Sunday and an exercise room. One of the best things about HRP is the activities. There is always something going on : trivia, bingo, ice cream social, singers and bands, chef demos, book club and parties on all the major Holidays. This is a place where everyone is loved and cared for as if they were their own parents.
