It's a Shia Muslim shrine and historical site located in the Zadibal area of Srinagar, Kashmir, India. It is known for its religious and cultural importance, particularly among the Shia Muslim community. The Imambara is dedicated to the memory of the martyrs of Karbala, especially Imam Hussain, and is a place of mourning and commemoration, particularly during the Islamic month of Muharram.

Very historical place. Build by Kaji Chak, this was the first ImamBargah in kashmir. This is a very important place for the Shia Muslims in kashmir. All the muharram gatherings are held there moslty. It also has the Shabih (copy) of Imam Hussain (pbuh) zareeh. This imambargah was burnt and destroyed 12 times but rebuilt by the lovers of the holy prophet and his family. The construction of this imambargah is going on since past few years.

This Imambara resembles more like Kerbala Sharief, the Roza of Imam Hussain a.s. It has been decorated with a Papiermache motifs on the roof and columns. Though Constitution work us still going on, it's one of the marvels in Kashmir.

A symbol of Resistance which was burnt more than five times in the medieval period. A history associated with the Shias of Kashmir. Gatherings during moharram are massive

It is a central place for shia in Srinagar. The building that stands now is still under construction. The one that was demolished was built in traditional Kashmiri architecture., which in my opinion they should have retained. Imagine if we demolish the Jamia Masjid in Nowhata or the Khankah’e moala and then build it in concrete. The imambargah that stood here was built on the same lines as the Jama masjid and the khankah. It should’ve been rebuilt with the same architecture and building materials wherever possible. Demolishing it was travesty and shows the ignorance and narrow mind of the so called mullas who control it. A lot of greed as well. Not just ignorance.

Beautiful place. Neither a mosque nor a mausoleum, an imambara is a unique edifice used by Shia Muslims for the purpose of religious gatherings during the month of Muharram. Muharram marks the festival of ritualized mourning for the third imam and Muhammad’s grandson Hussain AS who was martyred in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD.
