"Today, Strasbourg is considered the “capital of a reconciled Europe,” but it had to struggle through the Germanic Holy Roman Empire, the Royal Free City, the French Revolution, and a few assassinations before it earned that distinction. Open since 1920, the Historical Museum retraces these political, economic, and cultural years through paintings and military artifacts. A more recent addition to the building, which actually served as the city’s slaughterhouse in 1587, highlights the period from 1800 to when the Council of Europe was created in 1949, includingNapoléon’s three visits."
This museum is good for historical reasons. At least two hours required to visit it. Not crowded at all. Some not interested in history this museum is not recommended. But for kids it definitely worth to visit. Everything organised well. Staff is very friendly. There is some items displayed that we can touch it. That help for nice experience also will feel how it’s. That was really interesting. It’s a two floor museum and there is elevator available for easy access.

Very informative local museum exploring Strasbourg's history as a city with one foot in Germany and one in France (though, it has to be said, it's a bit more interested in the latter). I was surprised to find we'd spent two hours going round the array of fascinating exhibits. My favourites were the four wonderful paintings once commissioned by the gardeners' guild

In depth museum about the history of Strasbourg in a way that was not boring at all. The model of the city was amazing to see. It is 2 floors and takes about 2 hours to see everything thoroughly.
Also the automatic audio guide was nice!

The museum was small in size, but it captured the entire history of Strasbourg beautifully.
It left a deep impression on my children, teaching them many historical facts and sparking their curiosity.
If you’re visiting Strasbourg, I highly recommend bringing your kids here — it’s both educational and unforgettable!

A stellar museum detailing the history of Strasbourg and its people and industry from medieval times to the present day. Sorted chronologically with a huge amount of detai and all captions in French, German and English. The city model at a scale of 1:600 on the first floor spectacular. And remarkably cheap, the concessionary rate was €3.50.

All of the workers were so helpful and kind, even though I could not speak French they were so understanding.
Plus the museum was beyond amazing. I learnt so much about the history of Strasbourg and everything was so interesting, I did not understand how the time had passed.
I highly recommend visiting this museum if you are in Strasbourg.
