Famed ‘Sideways’ Restaurant Will Open New Wine Tasting Room in Buellton | Eater LA

"Founders Frank Ostini and Gray Hartley are opening a new tasting room next to their iconic restaurant, aiming for a July 2018 opening; because the space was most recently a tasting room called Point Conception Wines, the revamp should be quick. Guests will be able to sample various vintages while enjoying a small menu of wine-friendly lunch bites served on an outdoor patio. Ostini — whose California restaurant and wine career spans decades and who specializes in red oak–fired barbecue and steaks at the restaurant — and Hartley launched their winery in 1979 and now produce about 17,000 cases a year. The restaurant and wines gained international attention after the 2004 film Sideways, and the pair were early advocates of California pinot noirs; they also contend that Sideways unfairly maligned merlot, which they say grows well on the Central Coast and deserves more respect." - Mona Holmes

The ribs were overwhelming delicious. The wine tasting pours were tiny—seriously, small as hell. We did two tastings and ended up paying $60 for what was basically 8 ounces total. Right after, we stopped by Kaena, and it was 100% better—actual pours and a way better experience overall

We’ve been fans of Hitching Post for a while and just had the pleasure of back to back tastings. One at flying Flags and then again the next day at the tasting room. Spencer took great care of us both days. Knowledgeable, kind and personable. We had our 3 year old with us and everyone was so kind and didn’t bat an eye 😊 The wine is excellent, love the Fiddlesticks Pinot and for a 95+ degree weekend, all the whites and pinks were perfect. The Pet Nat was especially great on a hot day. When there was a mix up in the wines we bought, Spencer came to us to make the swap for the correct bottle. 10/10 service! We’ll be back!!

We stopped here for lunch and they have BBQ Burgers. If you enjoy beer, you have to sit in a different area. The staff was great, very attentive, they made multiple trips to bring everything we needed. Don’t let the prices scare you away, you definitely get what you pay for. Don’t miss the brocolli salad, delicious! We had a party of 8, and the level of service and quality of food was 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This place is definitely wine in a million! I've made a lot of pour decisions in my life and super glad we visited this amazing winery. Dined the night before at their restaurant next door Hitching Post II and got the chance to enjoy some of their wine selections so decided to swing by the winery the next day to sample some of the other wines I didn't get a chance to try. So glad I did as this wine tasting was definitely the highlight of my vacation. We were welcomed by the host with the most Aaron when we got there just before opening time. It was amazing to hear him regale us with the history and future plans for Hitching Post Wines. The conversation and the wine was just perfect and one of the most memorable ones we've had sober or not :) Also had the pleasure of meeting owner and legendary wine maker Frank Ostini. Our visit here reminds me that wine is more than just it grapes. The best ones are the ones that were cultivated, nurtured and coaxed to excellence by passionate individuals like Frank and Aaron. Cheers to Frank, Aaron and the Hitching Post team! We love your Pinot and maybe, just maybe drink a glass of Merlot if anyone orders it (sorry Miles!). All in all, this is a wine-derful place to sip and enjoy life~

I've always gone to Hitching Post restaurant when I go to Solvang and had to go and try their new wine tasting room. A lovely place to try all of their good wines if you haven't try it at their restaurant. Did not fail to amaze me. Could not go home without taking some bottles. Yummm.

Terrific option if you can't get to the Hitching Post for dinner or if you've your dog with you. Terrific selection of wine and really good lunch food options. Sit outside and enjoy the view or sit inside if you want. Gotta try the burger next time I'm there!

2025.01.19 - Tasty ribs, tasty burger all oak grilled pair nicely with solid wines. Nice place, aside from a small indoor seating area the seating is outside where you can smell the smoke of the grill and see the ostrich farm off in the distance. The 2018 Sanford and Benedict Pinot Noir paired well with the delicious BBQ ribs that had a sauce that was more jelly and glaze than sauce with a very slight kiss of heat to the flavor. The Oak Grilled burger was also delicious, though over cooked. The hosts were all friendly and accommodating, great staff. We tried a glass of the 2018 Sanford and Benedict - Pinot noir - tasty and bold for a pinot noir. Subtly nuts? Maybe walnuts?

Stayed in the area again, and after work I had lunch here. I had the steak sandwich with caramelized onions as I was relaxing enjoying the view and the food. Can't wait to come back but for dinner🥩
