Korean Noodle Chain Hongkongbanjum Opens New Restaurant in Kearny Mesa | Eater San Diego

"I saw that the group recently purchased Hive, the Kearny Mesa karaoke bar and lounge next to Paik’s Noodle, and plan to relaunch it as a yet-unnamed venue more in line with a Korean pub than a nightclub, featuring updated food and drinks, a new modern design, and color-changing LED light installations; the site upgrades tied to this project are expected to be finished by early 2025." - Candice Woo

Don’t waste your time for drinks or food. They were out of Asahi and Sapporo and food menu has changed a lot. Just random appetizers like bulgogi quesadilla and corn cheese. Our server ended up charging us over and had to correct the bill. Will not be coming back.

Hive Karaoke lounge is a great place to celebrate birthdays, special occasions, just because, or just to hang out with your friends. It’s a bar and a lounge with private karaoke rooms and even a virtual golf . Their updated technology makes it easy to find the songs you want to sing at the top of your lungs. They also sell food, which is good to keep you full as you drink and sing your favorite songs. Be ready for a good time and the themed rooms and make good memories with the people you’re with.

My small group had a wonderful time here in one of the private rooms. Friendly staff and very user-friendly iPad-style equipment - much better than their previous setup. I don’t think there was one song we wanted to sing during our two-hour session that they didn’t have, and the song quality for each was great. Highly recommend.

Great spot to chill with friends, sing some karaoke, and have some drinks! However, they didn’t have a wide selection of liquors or beer. Also the food is nothing special, also they are small portions.

We went a few weeks ago for my birthday party and had a great time. The room that we first rented had some wifi issues (it would pause and buffer between songs and lag). We were pretty dejected about it because it cut into the first ~30minutes of our time. However, the staff was super helpful! A big shout out to Xavier and Yohan, they were so accommodating and great. Once it became obvious that this was an issue, they quickly prepared a new room for us, gave us some free drinks, and gave a discount on the time. They then went out of their way to check in on us and make sure the rest of the party and our karaoke time was going smoothly. They turned the night around! Will definitely be coming back and highly recommend!

We just had my little sisters 14th birthday party here and it was so fun! Staff is so kind and they have unlimited music to sing to! It's a little dirty and it'd be nice if the private karaoke rooms were more sound proof. Also for some reason there were 0 trashcans which was kind of weird other than that this was definitely a positive and memorable experience for my family and my sisters friends

Cool venue and vibes, i really enjoy the private rooms. The karaoke system is pretty solid and has a lot of songs, but is surprisingly missing some. For instance, lots of t pain but no "buy u a drank", but somehow they have "theyre coming to take me away, ha haaa" from napoleon xiv (iykyk) The drinks were pretty watered down but the bartender had no problem correcting that for the next round and was also nice enough to remake a spilled drink (dark in the rooms and can be easy to bump a table). This is my second time here and ive never been to another karaoke place, but ill definitely be coming back in the future

I was surprised that I actually like this place! I’m not a fan of the other rice chicken competitor in north county. But this one won me over. First off, it’s located inside HIVE. There was no one at the front table so I walked inside towards the bar. It’s best if you call in for your order to give at least 30 minutes. We got there in 20 minutes but from the time stamp of when I placed the call to the time on my receipt, it was 35 minutes. Parking here is really bad. It’s always packed and the spaces are tiny! We got the Spicy Soy and Sweet & Spicy. Honestly, it doesn’t look like the photo based on the color and it wasn’t spicy. Couldn’t really tell them apart but if I had to guess, one was slightly sweeter than the other. The Sweet & Spicy was like a wet sticky sauce and it was only at the bottom of the box so only parts of the chicken had the sauce. It wasn’t evenly distributed. Each box of chicken came with 4oz diced pickled radish. It doesn’t come with coleslaw like it says on the menu. The rice flour made it lighter, fluffier, crispier. Usually when it comes to Korean fried chicken, I’m done after two but I ate 3 and they were huge. We got the half. We also got Cajun Fries and tried 3 additional sauces. The honey garlic, sweet & spicy, and angry sauce. It’s 4oz for $2 or 2oz for $1. We got the latter. The fries were nothing special. For the sauces, I love the honey garlic because it reminds me of eating honey with American fried chicken.
