I was surprised that I actually like this place! I’m not a fan of the other rice chicken competitor in north county. But this one won me over.
First off, it’s located inside HIVE. There was no one at the front table so I walked inside towards the bar. It’s best if you call in for your order to give at least 30 minutes. We got there in 20 minutes but from the time stamp of when I placed the call to the time on my receipt, it was 35 minutes. Parking here is really bad. It’s always packed and the spaces are tiny!
We got the Spicy Soy and Sweet & Spicy. Honestly, it doesn’t look like the photo based on the color and it wasn’t spicy. Couldn’t really tell them apart but if I had to guess, one was slightly sweeter than the other. The Sweet & Spicy was like a wet sticky sauce and it was only at the bottom of the box so only parts of the chicken had the sauce. It wasn’t evenly distributed. Each box of chicken came with 4oz diced pickled radish. It doesn’t come with coleslaw like it says on the menu.
The rice flour made it lighter, fluffier, crispier. Usually when it comes to Korean fried chicken, I’m done after two but I ate 3 and they were huge. We got the half.
We also got Cajun Fries and tried 3 additional sauces. The honey garlic, sweet & spicy, and angry sauce. It’s 4oz for $2 or 2oz for $1. We got the latter.
The fries were nothing special. For the sauces, I love the honey garlic because it reminds me of eating honey with American fried chicken.
