"If you’re meeting out-of-town friends at Tate Modern and want to grab dinner afterwards, wander over to Hixter, where you can be assured of a good meal (things like grilled steaks and chicken) while your mates gawp at the plush decor and things on the menu like ‘De Beauvoir smoked salmon’. The bar’s also excellent and it’s an easy way to transition over into drinks if you’re feeling strong. It’s also a good spot for impressing people like your new colleagues without trying too hard." - David Paw

Yelp
Best roast chicken that I've had in years! Maybe I just ordered the best thing on the menu, but I was REALLY impressed. I'm surprised the Yelp reviews are not even better--and that this restaurant was not packed. The roast chicken with stuffing and gravy was so moist, so flavorful, and seasoned just right. And it was a half chicken so I really didn't have room for dessert. Fortunately, they serve a "mini chocolate cake," which makes up with flavor what it lacks in size. And the prices are quite reasonable by London standards. (26 pounds including tip). Be warned: the pornographic artwork and wallpaper in the men's room is not really kid-appropriate.

Yelp
f you are looking for a traditional British meal head over to Hixter on Sunday for Sunday roast. I look forward mostly to my Sunday meal anytime I am in England. Sunday roast is a traditional British meal that is traditionally served on Sunday, consisting of roasted meat, roast potato, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, vegetables and gravy. roast parsnips, Brussels sprouts, peas, carrots, and broccoli. Make sure to make reservations in advance as it is not like America where they take many walk-ins.

Yelp
Got seated right away, quiet night for them on Sunday evening. After reading the Yelp reviews I tried the Yorkshire pudding with chicken liver pate. Two thumbs up! I could eat that pate for breakfast, lunch and dinner. My Yorkshire pudding was huge, slightly darker than I'm used to but all very delicious. For my main dish I had the traditional Sunday roast beef with sides of mushroom, peas, and potatoes. I asked for pink, your options are pink or well done. Meat was seasoned well and very tender.

Yelp
I dislike nothing more than a disappointing dining experience...and this place was a real let down. The initial welcome was friendly and promising, but this did not continue. Service was terribly slow and ice cold, bordering on awkward at times. For a £17 burger, I was thoroughly underwhelmed from the moment it arrived- saddest looking bacon I've ever seen! One of my friends ordered a steak with a side of chips (my meal was to come with chips too) - without mentioning anything, they set one order on the table next to his steak. I enquired about my chips and was told that the order was for two...like, really? Why would you just randomly assume two people want to share something they ordered?! When I questioned this, the waiter replied rather rudely "sharing is caring". We were eventually brought our separate bowls of chips, but by that point I was put off by the curt service. Not impressed! On to the actual food. Gets a resounding meh, a mediocre burger with chewy bacon and bog standard chips. Condiments were displayed in fancy little dishes on a wooden board, but portions were super skimpy for a table of 5. Maybe this place should stop trying to be cool and trendy and actually focus on customer service and improving their food. In short, overpriced, mediocre food with a side of terrible service. Safe to say I won't be returning.

Yelp
I have been here 3 times and have really enjoyed all experiences. However, having said that, it doesn't quite get the full 5*. It's always been very pleasant, but not quite got that wow factor for me. I do like the streak here but have had better for around the same price. The most notable mention regarding the food is actually the Yorkshire pudding with whipped chicken liver starter - I order that every time now! I would still come here again, but would be inclined to try other restaurants that might offer something a little more... Exciting perhaps?

Yelp
Get the lunch deal, lots of options for £9.95 bargain! Steak and chicken sandwich with fries is delicious - great steak and gorgeous lettuce almost like coleslaw. Cool little place with a funky bar downstairs and open kitchen.

Yelp
Went on the recommendation of a friend (who met me there) and we had a not so traditional, traditional English brunch. Beef, chicken, Yorkshire pudding and sides. Oh, Bloody Mary's too! Ali was great and service was spot on. Look forward to visiting again during a future visit and hope to check out the bar downstairs!

Yelp
The food was alright, but the service...was...horrible! I don't know the last time, if ever, it's been so bad. And it wasn't even busy and there were plenty of servers around. I usually only write reviews unless I can give it a 5 star, but this wasn't a near miss, it was a helluva long ways away from being worth the wait for your drinks (including water...which came out after our meal despite the fact that we asked twice for it) and food.

Yelp
Hixter is just okay. The drinks were good - the pudding was good - but why oh why do they serve you from a freezer bag american style fries and call them chips on the menu? Not sure id care to go back as its mostly a dining place, and well the food wasn't as good as the drinks and well they only have a small bar kinda awkward by the door so.....

Yelp
Awesome restaurant in the very trendy Bankside neighborhood of London. We happened upon this place while walking to Borough Market and The Shard. Came back tonight for dinner and glad we did. For our starter we had an amazing roasted allium and cheddar croquette, then a tomato salad and for our main course a sirloin steak salad and half herb roasted chicken with stuffing (too die for!!!). I highly recommend this out of the way very hip and trendy foodie restaurant.

Yelp
Visiting London with husband and two teens. Finding a restaurant that we all love is no easy feat, but we all agreed Hixter was top notch. Excellent service, fresh, delicious food.

Yelp
I came here for a few drinks after work and the downstairs bar was closed, therefore we were seated at the upstairs bar, which was small. The wine selection was limited and the service was spotty - great at times and off at others. The bar staff is nice but not the most attentive. The ambiance seems cool and chic but it's nothing compared to the downstairs bar, which is how I imagined it: plush leather couches, a big bar with lots of space. I would come back to experience the big bad downstairs, as that's what I initially came for.

Yelp
Excited by the news that Mark Hix had opened up an outpost in Bankside, we ventured out on a stormy Sunday when the streets were deserted. We're big fans of Tramshed in Shoreditch, which also has his legendary chicken and chips on the menu. Located in an old metal box factory, we couldn't miss the neon Hixter sign. We were warmly greeted and taken through the ground floor bar to the airy restaurant. The torrential rain seemed to have put off fellow diners as it was fairly empty at first. I'm told that it gets really busy on Saturdays, and no doubt it's only a matter of time until it's on every foodie's radar! We couldn't resist trying a Moon's Green Beer Stix, simply because we hadn't a clue what it was! This was actually a type of spicy chorizo stick that was very moreish. We then tucked into a fabulous Yorkshire pudding - also a Tramshed staple. Strangely these are served as a starter rather than with a main course. They come with whipped chicken liver, a really tasty accompaniment. Then it was straight on to the piece de resistance, the chicken and chips to share. As you'll see, they have a rather unique way of serving this at Hix, with the feet presented in the air. The chicken was crispy although we prefer the original gravy rather than the peri-peri sauce that it comes with here. Alas, the mini chocolate cake that we love at Tramshed is not on the menu here, so we skipped desert. You can however have a (largely) guilt-free mini ice cream. If you love the cake too, feel free to petition the waiters if you go so that they put it on the menu, we tried! Do check out the loos if you go, they have some pretty unusual art work! You'll go past Mark's Bar, it looks like a really cosy spot for an evening drink.

Yelp
We went here with a big group for my husband's birthday and did the bottomless drinks brunch. They were very generous with the drinks and brought us champagne bottles and pitchers of bloodies so we could refill at our leisure. The food was really tasty as well (most of us got the cock'n'bull hash). They also let us eat the cake I brought from home (and brought us plates and forks too!), which was really nice of them.

Andreas H.

Yelp
incredible chips, super tasty chicken and a fantastic presentation, nothing to add. We left completely stuffed as we finished all plates. Will be back for sure!

Alison L.

Yelp
Came here because I was intrigued by tramshed but didn't want to go out to shoreditch. It was a Friday night during Easter bank holiday weekend, and the restaurant was fairly quiet. We got great service, the house wine was decent, and the chicken was honestly some of the best I've ever had. I will definitely be back.

Tim S.

Yelp
Sadly disappointing. The service was the highlight - a friendly, bubbly waitress who knew her way around the wine menu and was happy to make recommendations, and once we'd ordered, the food was brought to our table in a very respectable time. Atmosphere was also pretty good. The food though, was utterly forgettable. The menu isn't massive and the plates aren't cheap, so there's no real excuse for serving uninspiring, under-seasoned, underwhelming, utterly mediocre food. Everything was... fine. It was all... ok. Nothing more. When you specialise in two things (chicken and steak), you need to get them absolutely bang-on, and Hixter seem to have forgotten that in favour of being cool. It's a real shame. All in all - a trendy, cool place with a bit of buzz and atmosphere - but don't go there for the food.

Yelp
+ Amazing carnivore place. Meat lover will call Hixter home. It is quite pricy but expect good quality. I would have like to have individual sauces or more choice to match my dish. Sorry to say but Vegetarian, move on...
