Hjem Review - Kensington - London - The Infatuation

"The area around High Street Kensington is a bit chain-y, so it’s worth taking a ten minute walk down to Hjem if you’re after a seriously good cup of coffee. This Danish café at Launceston Place is in one the prettiest corners of London and it doesn’t let the corner down. There’s a bench for two out front, but it’s also worth knowing that there’s a tiny and kind of secret patio out back." - Oliver Feldman

I popped into HJEM in South Kensington while I was out exploring the area for my blog. I ordered a latte and a cardamom bun, which was served warm on a little wooden board, absolutely delicious, I enjoyed every mouthful. The café itself is quite small, but it has a lovely neighbourhood feel and makes a great alternative to the bigger coffee chains. It’s perfect for a quick coffee stop, and it’s only a short walk from the museums in South Kensington. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

The most delicious cardamom buns !! Served still hot from the oven. When I went to the toilet downstairs, I could see the chef rolling out new ones. So everything made in house. Unfortunately, quite sour staff - two staff members serving upstairs during my visit, both of whom were peppery in their exchanges with customers, and kept turning their backs to the seating area to be on their phones or chat amongst themselves. For this reason and this reason alone, prefer the launceston location, as have always received great service there.

This small cafe is located at a quiet street corner that you may easily missed it. I like the vibe and atmosphere here, where you can take a relaxing break. I ordered a cup of flat white, a piece of chocolate cake for dine-in, and takeaway a cardamon bun. The most impressive one is the cardamon bun! Very tasty and perfect match with coffee. I will come back for it!

Overall a very nice, sweet coffee spot tucked into Kensington, complete with a charming back garden. We enjoyed cappuccinos and their signature buns - both delicious and clearly made with care. The vibe was cosy, though the café was busy and the staff, while nice, had a lot to handle; service took a bit longer than expected but remained acceptable. Quietly rated: worth stopping.

This is one of my favorite coffee spots in London. HJEM is a lovely little Scandinavian café with hands down the best cardamom and vanilla buns in the city — soft, fragrant, and absolutely delicious. Their pastries are top quality, and the coffee is just as good — rich, smooth, and beautifully prepared. The staff are always warm and welcoming, which makes the place feel extra cozy. It’s a small space, so seating can be limited, but it’s worth the visit for the quality and vibe. Everything here feels thoughtfully made, and their concept really shines through — both in the taste and the atmosphere.

It‘s so funny how some people rated them quite low.. and I kind of agree.. not bad coffee, although not very aromatic and quite light for my taste.. Pastries and cookies didn‘t really speak to me although I was craving sth. sweet.. The eyes the barista made when I ordered my coffee, I should’ve known better and just leave.. no energy and heart felt here… Please give the staff a raise or more holidays.. they looked so tired and uninviting.. I just took my coffee with me.. A polite and quiet ‘Thank you’ from the other staff, who didn’t even have any interactions with me, to save somehow, at least something, what was already lost…. The level 4 for hygiene also concerned me when I saw the sign, while stepping out….

Amazing cardamom buns. Good coffee. Staff is not so friendly but the location is great and why I tend to go.

Coffee was perfect and just right!. I would definitely recommend for the coffee. Only one complaint, that the male barista was a bit serious and did not smile once even when I say thank you he never replied to my gratitude. However the lady was nice and super helpful. I visited December 1st around 10:30 am.
