Shanghai Club

"A premium brand from the Jardin de Jade Group, the restaurant serves old Shanghai classics with an emphasis on finesse and attention to detail. Walnut-crusted duck fillet square in bean paste is a rare gem that is painstaking to make. Live seafood is another highlight on the menu, while some Cantonese dim sum are served at lunch. Ask the servers about the seasonal offerings which truly embodying the essence of Shanghainese cooking." - Michelin Inspector

Taikoo Hui is a luxurious shopping mall in Shanghai, known for its sophisticated ambiance and diverse selection of high-end stores. Located in a bustling part of the city, it draws shoppers seeking both luxury brands and unique experiences. One of its standout features is the impressive Starbucks Reserve Roastery, one of the largest Starbucks stores in the world. This flagship store offers an immersive coffee experience with its artisanal roastery, tasting bars, and interactive coffee-related exhibits, making it a must-visit for coffee enthusiasts. What sets Taikoo Hui apart is its pet-friendly policy, which adds a welcoming touch for pet owners who want to bring their furry friends along. The mall’s pet-friendly atmosphere creates a relaxed and inclusive environment, with various pet amenities and spaces that make it easy for guests to enjoy their shopping experience without leaving their pets behind.

This is a great eight levels shopping mall which is based on HK theme. Levels P1 and P2 are car park levels. Information counters as well as small food courts can be found on level LG1 and LG2. HKRI centres are on level 1 and level 2. The Sukhothai Shanghai and The Middle House are on level 3. Roof Garden is on level 4. There are many big brands such as Asics, New Balanced, Zen and others can be found within this mall. There are many good restaurants as well. Within the building complex houses one of the biggest Starbucks flagship store known as Starbucks Reserve Roastery Shanghai with around 2700 square metres of roastery floor space. It is like having an entire coffee factory. There are two floors, namely floor 1 and floor 2. On floor 1, there are six sections, namely section 1 to section 6. Section 1 is the Roasting Area where one can watch how the master roasters unlock the unique flavour nuances. Section 2 is the Symphony Pipes and Bean Silos. Here, one can observe how the roasted beans are delivered to the five copper pipes known as Symphony. Section 3 is the Main Bar where coffee meets craft! Section 4 is the Pairing Bar where one can elevate one's coffee experience and then take home a freshly scooped bag. Section 5 is Handpicked at the Roastery and finally on Section 6, one can indulge on pastries, pizzas and breads. On floor 2, there are 4 sections, Section 7 to Section 10, which is a continuation from Section 6. Section 7 is the Coffee Library. Section 8 is for tea lovers, Teavana. Section 9 is the Cold Brew Tower and Section 10 is the Long Bar. This Starbucks is packed with people but there are personnel which help with the traffic within Starbucks. For users travelling on wheelchairs and strollers, to get from one floor to another, there is no ramp and the only way is to use the elevator. Anyway, the address for Starbucks Reserve Roastery is 789, West Nanjing Road (Near No.1 Shimen Road), Shanghai.

This mall is 5 star. With The Middle House Hotel next to it. A lot of retail stores definitely higher end. Starbucks Reserve is nearby if you want to grab a quick coffee. Alternatively a 5 minute walk towards the metro station and you can have more eating options.

Well designed mall with good selection of shops. Starbucks is impressive. Enjoyed not small portion of shaved ice cream at Ice Monster. Play Me piano available to show up. Minus for quite a few shops not accepting VISA and for not having ATM in the mall - need to go to ICBC across the road, otherwise the great place to shop.

UMI In early 2017, Red design was appointed to design a new modern Japanese dining experience. Located at the high-end and popular Taikoo Hui mall, Umi is set to become the highlight of Shanghai in 2018. The interior brief was to create an interior and exterior design aesthetic that spoke Japanese and breathed western influence. A rich combination of classic modern western furniture pieces and Japanese detailing create a unique dining atmosphere not seen in Shanghai to date. Photography by Seth Powers
