Yelp
Ho Hung Kee, it made my list of places to visit in Hong Kong as it is a Michelin 1 Starred restaurant & thought it was worth checking out for their Beef Hor Fun.
I visited at the old location on my own, & admit I will go back to try it again at the new location & take my friend along that I was suppose to be there with to see what her take is on it all.
The visit was all about trying the Beef Hor Fun, as I'm a fan of this dish, & with their great reputation I expected great things.
The service was lacking, & I was ferried onto a tiny, tiny table (kiddy size) to share with a family.
They were sharing some congee, & noodles & dosing their young daughter up on orange fanta.
I ordered myself a plate of beef or fun & a coke & waited..
I didn't wait long & before I knew it another traveler had been placed onto our table, I wasn't quite sure how were all going to fit on the small table with our food. It was tight, & felt a little invasive of personal space, then again I have to remind myself, I'm in Hong Kong, personal space doesn't exist.
My noodles arrived & my coke, I have to admit it wasn't the best Hor Fun I've ever had in my life, it was lacking flavour & greatness, which was a bit of a shame as I'd been looking forward to it so much.
The family on the table continue to share congee, noodles, & fanta... I did think this was strange combination, little did I know I'd soon be receiving dinner & a show, as the young girl proceeded to vomit a combination of congee, noodles & fanta onto our share table. (if only I had a photo) The other tourist & I gave each other side glances, & commented on the unfortunate situation, I have to admit it contributed to putting me off my very average plate of noodles. The small table making it all the worse, as it was so close it felt like it was in 3D & at any moment I'd be right in it.
In my eyes the Beer Hor Fun was average, I've had much better for cheaper at hawker markets & food halls in Singapore. I'll try it again, but must admit the best thing about this meal was the reliable coke I had to wash it down & perhaps the unexpected show that I'll never forget. ;-)
