10 Best Bakeries in Chinatown, Boston | Eater Boston

"Ho Yuen is small and cash only, and it’s packed year-round with, among other things, various mooncakes (a seasonal treat at many other places), which are typically made with a flaky outer pastry and filled with red bean or lotus seed paste. Don’t miss the curry beef buns, either." - Terrence Doyle

Where to Buy Mooncakes in Boston for the Mid-Autumn Festival | Eater Boston

"Ho Yuen is one of the few bakeries that offers mooncakes year-round. It has the standard large Cantonese-style mooncakes for some of the best prices in the neighborhood, with classic fillings (red bean, white lotus, mixed nut, and winter melon). There are also a few flaky mooncake offerings. Grab a warmed curry beef bun while you’re there."

Where to Eat Char Siu Bao in and Around Boston

"Hing Shing Pastry is a small bakery better known for its almond cookies, but it also offers a rustic baked char siu bao with a slightly denser bread. Grab one and enjoy it sitting in the park adjacent to the Chinatown Gate. Hing Shing Pastry is open for takeout." - Linda Huang

Ho Yuen is one of the last few traditional Chinese bakeries around Boston. Their baked goods are very authentic, similar to what I grew up with in Hong Kong. They are the only shop that I've found that offers the glutinous "white sugar cake", not too sweet and has a great chewy texture. It's so very good! The fried dough and Yao tiao are both nicely fried and not too greasy. My only complaint about the food here is that the pineapple buns are always underbaked. The baked roast pork bun tends to have an undercooked bottom too but has very good flavor. Service is not friendly but is efficient once you get their attention, especially during busy times. Cash only.

My family has been going to Ho Yuen bakery for over 40years! It is a Boston historical landmark! Consistently great traditional Chinese baked goods! It is the best! And their gift certificates do not expire like other bakeries in the area. I highly recommend their bakery for Chinese weddings!!

cute spot in boston chinatown, quick service, and yummy pastries. in our little tour of chinatown, we wanted to stop into multiple places and try as many little things as possible. we split a small green tea moon cake and an egg tart. so delectable and cheap. bring your cash!

A nice place to find either traditional chinese pastries and desserts, or something a little more american (sweeter). Got something called a Neapolitan. It had layers of flakey crust and dry nougat. I enjoyed it.

Party of 2- aug2023: cute atmosphere desserts were pretty okay. The mango dishes were good but the savory products not a fan of. They have an assortment of drinks and many desserts to choose from. Quick service to go in and out of quickly staff there for business.

My co workers and I were wandering through Chinatown and stopped in this bakery on a moon cake mission. $20 later, we had moon cakes AND chocolate cake, and I’m sure if we had more space we would have taken even more of the pastries to go with us. Wow. What amazing food art, everything here looks and smells incredible. I also highly recommend the pineapple moon cakes!

I’ve been coming here consistently to buy pineapple buns for almost 10 years now. There’s zero customer service just fyi. It reminds me of being in HK.
