"Ho Yuen is small and cash only, and it’s packed year-round with, among other things, various mooncakes (a seasonal treat at many other places), which are typically made with a flaky outer pastry and filled with red bean or lotus seed paste. Don’t miss the curry beef buns, either." - Terrence Doyle, Adam H. Callaghan

"Ho Yuen is one of the few bakeries that offers mooncakes year-round. It has the standard large Cantonese-style mooncakes for some of the best prices in the neighborhood, with classic fillings (red bean, white lotus, mixed nut, and winter melon). There are also a few flaky mooncake offerings. Grab a warmed curry beef bun while you’re there." - Linda Huang

"Hing Shing Pastry is a small bakery better known for its almond cookies, but it also offers a rustic baked char siu bao with a slightly denser bread. Grab one and enjoy it sitting in the park adjacent to the Chinatown Gate. Hing Shing Pastry is open for takeout." - Linda Huang

A nice place to find either traditional chinese pastries and desserts, or something a little more american (sweeter). Got something called a Neapolitan. It had layers of flakey crust and dry nougat. I enjoyed it.

I ordered a coffee milk tea and it was suprisingly tasty. We didn’t spend too much time here, but overall the service was good. They were quick and correct.

The food was ok but the service was very poor. The ladies working there are rude. They only take cash and the change was abandoned on the top of the counter. They don’t want to answer any questions and just stare at you. Go to the Vietnamese bakery next door. Much cleaner and better customer service. I won’t be back.

Party of 2- aug2023: cute atmosphere desserts were pretty okay. The mango dishes were good but the savory products not a fan of. They have an assortment of drinks and many desserts to choose from. Quick service to go in and out of quickly staff there for business.

My co workers and I were wandering through Chinatown and stopped in this bakery on a moon cake mission. $20 later, we had moon cakes AND chocolate cake, and I’m sure if we had more space we would have taken even more of the pastries to go with us. Wow. What amazing food art, everything here looks and smells incredible. I also highly recommend the pineapple moon cakes!

I live in NC but when I’m visiting Boston I have to make a stop here. The coconut cream buns are insane! The customer service is excellent as well. Oh how I wish they had one of these bakeries in NC.

Egg tart and buns were spectacular. Prices were cheap and the people working there were also very kind and friendly. Glad I was able to finally try what seemed like authentic Chinese pastries

Had a really bad experience. I leave the customer service out of this. I got Lotus Seed Cake and Coconut Sesame Ball. The lotus cake was super chewy and unpleasant; the coconut ball was supposed to be filled with sesame seeds and sugar, but I got mostly lumps of crystallized sugar and some sesame seeds, the only tasty part was shredded coconut outside the ball but the bakery has nothing to do with it. It’s cheap (around $1-$1.20 any item) but I’ve been to better bakeries similar to this one.
