Hao Lu Old Town was a wonderful experience—full of charm, history, and atmosphere. The architecture is stunning, with beautifully preserved buildings that transport you back in time. Wandering through the narrow streets, you get a real sense of Vietnam’s rich cultural heritage. The area is well-maintained, with informative signage and friendly locals who are happy to share stories about the place. It’s an ideal spot for photography, quiet reflection, and learning more about the region’s past. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area and interested in something more authentic and peaceful.

I recommend getting there in time for sunset. It's amazing as the lights come on and the atmosphere just lifts. Lots of families and young people about. More tourist focussed food options but nice place to have a chilled tea or beer on the board walk.

Hoa Lu Old Town is absolutely stunning, especially at night. The streets come alive with colorful lights, creating a magical and vibrant atmosphere. The beautiful Buddhist temples, illuminated after dark, are truly a sight to behold — peaceful, intricate, and full of character. The night market adds even more charm, offering a lively mix of local foods, crafts, and souvenirs. It's the perfect place to take a stroll, soak in the culture, and enjoy the beauty of the town after sunset. Highly recommended for anyone visiting!

Lovely market area with plenty of food and shopping options. The temples on the islands are also very beautiful. Suggest visiting just before sunset so you can see the area during sunset and nightfall. Shops are also reasonably priced and offer better quality goods compared to local markets

We stumbled upon Hoa Lo and it was completely different than what we were expecting, in a good way. It’s like a mini Hoi An without the crazy crowds. Stalls selling souvenirs and food. Loved the atmosphere. We had a few bites here and there to sample everything that they had. We went at 4 which was too early, the shops start to slowly open at 5:30 and at 8 is when it’s busy and lively. Highly recommend the area if you’re looking for something to do at night!

We didn't realise how beautiful Hoa Lu old town is. The many food stalls are amazing and there's something for everyone. The beautiful pagodas on the river are spectacular. We would highly recommend visiting

We visited Hoa Lu Ancient Town (Walking Street) on a Saturday, and I must say this is a very beautiful place with a small lake around the pagoda. You can also enjoy the stunning view from the Highland Coffee shop here. The walking street mainly starts at night, so there is no meaning in going before evening. At night, the street becomes so engaging and lively, with beautiful lights reflecting on the lake side by side, making it look magical. You shouldn’t miss this place at night if you are staying in Ninh Binh overnight. Highly recommended for a peaceful yet vibrant evening experience. 5/5

Visited twice. First on rainy cold evening and had Hotpot to warm us up. It's was average and over priced. It's really was wet, cold and windy. Second visit during mid day and it's quiet, less people. Enjoy highland coffee and immerse myself into beautiful floating temples and river. Even get up and did a short dance video.
