The food was very mid and took forever to get to our table. I ordered a hash-brown dish with egg , and then added bacon for $2. The hash-browns were just store bought frozen hash-brown patty and were soggy topped with bland scrambled egg. The bacon was clearly precooked microwave bacon that had just been reheated . My friends food didn’t arrive until like 20 minutes I got mine even. Not worth the wait or the cost . Especially combined with the subpar service. Barista was rude to me even after leaving a 20%tip. I poured a small amount of coffee in the trash to make room for cream and he felt the need to correct me. there was no sign saying “please don’t pour coffee in trash can” or anything . If you don’t want coffee in the trash can maybe ask if I want room for cream!

10/2023 update: Changing this star rating from my original rating to five stars. I’m so glad I went back here because it must have been an off day the first time I had visited. I haven’t tried the Vietnamese Iced Coffee again but their signature drink, The Kingslayer, is A-MAY-ZING. I get it iced and it’s super refreshing and tasty. Also, since I’ve returned I’ve found that the service level here is much better and there are typically two employees which helps matters immensely. One of my favorite coffee shops now. First time trying Hob Coffee East Village which is a super cute coffee shop on the corner of K and 11th near Petco Park. They only had one employee working which made wait times a bit long since she had to take orders and then make drinks but she was doing her best. Thankfully it wasn’t super busy or I don’t think we would have waited. Inside they have plenty of seating and sell various items related to Hob Coffee with City Connect Padres colors. We ordered the Vietnamese Iced Coffees today which, according to their menu, is four espresso shots poured over ice and condensed milk in a 16oz cup. Unfortunately the sweetness of the condensed milk couldn’t overcome the burnt taste of the espresso in these drinks. I really wanted to like them. I don’t know if the fact that there was only one person working contributed to poor espresso making because she felt rushed or if the beans were just not of good quality but we couldn’t even drink all of it. I’m giving three stars based on the cute location and vibe as well as the kindness of the barista but I don’t think that I would order an espresso here again. If we hadn’t take the drinks to go we might have asked them to make us something else.

Google
Small coffee shop that has interesting flavored coffee. Being a nerd I just got a standard dark roast with 2 shots and it was STRONG. The PB Banana Honey toast was good and definitely recommend it if you like a sweet breakfast that isn’t chocolate-related. Right up the road from the San Diego Convention Center and next to the Padres’ stadium so easy walking distance from those spots.

Google
Terrific neighborhood coffee shop. The Vietnamese iced coffee was fantastic! I also ordered the avocado toast which was fantastic. The avocado was fresh and ripe. The goat cheese and pickled onion are a perfect compliment and pairing. The staff was very helpful. Nice space to do some work on my laptop. I wish I could give more stars!

Google
Excellent espresso! I had the oats too and they were delicious —— I have now gone back three days in a row and got the avocado toast with poached egg...delicious!

Chloe

Google
Everything was amazing 👏🏻👏🏻 I got a vanilla latte with an extra shot and my husband got a quad shot with milk and vanilla, both drinks were super smooth and delicious. We especially loved the avocado toast with pickled onions and goat cheese, I order scrambled eggs to pair with mine and they were fresh and flavorful. This is now one of our favorite breakfast places!

Google
Very personal experience the barista treated me like we were bestfriends. The coffee is to die for and the pastries and oatmeal were amazing. Vegan options are actually pretty great. Indoor and Outdoor dining. Non Gendered restroom is for customers only.

Google
Bean bar is a place that you must stop if you are in San Diego it's a fabulous Cafe and we've been going here for years. Quality is one of the things that comes to mind. The staff is super friendly and helpful and there are many options to choose from here.

Yelp
A little coffee shop hiding out near the library and Petco Park, these guys are slinging out energy both in the form of aesthetic and caffeine. There's lots of interesting art and graphics adorning the walls here, and their menu item names bring up some pop-culture charm. They were out of lots of food items, but I was also there during Comic-Con weekend. To be real, this place felt like a safe haven away from the chaos down the street. I tried the 1904 and it was absolutely delicious. Espresso (perfectly roasted and not too bitter) + whole milk + vanilla & raspberry syrups = a creamy caffeinated experience that tastes almost like ice cream. Ice cream for classy grown-ups. I can dig it. Very quick and friendly service and plenty of seating, though it is set up in a tight space. I will definitely return next time I'm on this side of town.

Yelp
Came here to quickly grab a coffee to do work across at the library and we were satisfied with our experience! Got the iced friar latte and it was delicious, perfect level of sweetness. I would recommend it for anyone that has a sweet tooth but if that's not you, their list of specialty coffee is extensive so I'm sure you'll find something you like. We didn't stay long but we're glad the barista was fast since we were in a rush. Loved the NP Hob (which closed) so we're glad it also exists in downtown!
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped by for a morning coffee Friday morning and it was fairly empty. However, it did take the barista a bit of time to take my order. My drink came out very quickly and it was soooo yummy. I got the friar faithful and it was nutty, creamy, and the perfect sweet pick me up. The interior decor is also beautiful and there's plenty of seating to catch up with a friend or get some work done. Will have to stop by next time I am in San Diego!

Yelp
This coffee shop was so good I ended up getting two coffees during one visit. The coffee was very smooth & enjoyable. The vibe was great, I was able to study and use my laptop with convenient areas to charge. Lastly, one of the best avocado toasts period. The sourdough bread was fantastic making it an item I will need to repurchase.

Yelp
It was pretty empty when we showed up at about 9:30a on Monday. The barista was pretty busy though, but was so friendly and welcoming! She kept her cool the whole time and made the drinks as quickly as possible. El Rey was pretty good, a little too much cinnamon but still good. The peanut butter with banana toast was awesome! The toast itself was what really made this.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
Walked over to Hob Coffee because another spot I had wanted to try was closed. The coffee was just ok - nothing quite to write home about, but solid if you're in a pickle. Staff looked bored and wasn't super friendly.

Yelp
HOB is by far my favorite coffee shop in all of SD! Whether you are looking for something simple or something unique, they've got you covered. And if you're anything like me, you'll appreciate that they also offer seasonal drinks. My favorite drink is The Kingslayer with almond milk. If you like lightly sweetened lattes with cinnamon, this is for you. If you're looking for something that packs a punch, I suggest the Black Mamba (cold brew with espresso). Either choice you make, you can't go wrong. Do yourself a favor and give them a try.
google avatar

Kathleen G.

Yelp
Just okay, at least on this initial visit. It'd be nice if the Iced Vietnamese Coffee started out cold instead of hot coffee with ice dumped in. Once you get enough ice to make it, you know, iced, the drink is still tepid but now diluted. Not exactly the friendliest service, either.

Yelp
Hob to the rescue. This San Diego coffee shop saved my ass after a night of event hosting and cocktail drinking. I had woken up feeling a bit like death (fitting considering the Halloween season) and ordered Hob Coffee to be delivered to my hotel. This bevy gave me all the motivation I needed to dive right into work! I ended up sipping on a iced lavender latte with oat milk while taking in the views of my hotel's rooftop patio. I also couldn't pass on their chocolate chip banana muffin which was 100% the move.

Yelp
Drinks here are always consistent and good. Service is excellent always willing to help you decide what to get.

Yelp
I've been coming here for almost a year because it's close to my apartment and I love the chai's. However, the past couple of months haven't been the best experience. I've been waiting 25-30 minutes for my drinks and the staff has no sense of urgency. They also don't apologize for the wait times and aren't personable. The overall taste of the Chais recently have also not been the best. I notice the baristas will let the coffee sit in the cup for a long time so by the time I get my drink, the coffee has a bitter taste (I get dirty chais). It's unfortunate because it's a neighborhood shop, but the staff is not personable, never looks happy, and haven't been making the drinks correct recently after paying a lot of money for these drinks. Major improvement needs to be done to this location.
google avatar

Camille H.

Yelp
Nice space. Friendly staff. Really delicious and unique ube latte! I've never seen an ube latte before but it was amazing! I got it with almond milk.
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
This is the closest coffee shop to my condo - but I end up walking past it to other options. The pastries are often very old and stale - stored in cling wrap to try and extend their freshness. Service is slow and not particularly personable for a neighborhood shop. The shop frequently has a stench/smell of rotting food or general spoilage.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop, located right on the corner in the east village. Great ambience. The sweetest, friendly staff. This young lady was extremely outgoing and patience. It was our 1st time there. We ordered the hot cookie latte topped with a wafer and an iced vanilla latte both with extra shots of espresso. Drinks were good. Great quality coffee beans... a nice toast. Only con- all sizes come with 2 shots, so the only difference is paying for extra milk. Otherwise, positive experience. Average pricing. Next time, I'm trying to Vietnamese.
google avatar

Meagan E.

Yelp
Staff were great and coffee was amazing. Their specialty menu was unique and fun. My Hob-It was declicious. The seasonal pumpkin tasted super fresh ingredients and not artificial at all. Nearby parking is limited, but it's worth a short walk. The nearby area is a little rough, but help out one of the homies and snag them a muffin. Staff were kind to one I was helping out & it was appreciated. They've got some pretty cool merch with a check in discount too.
google avatar

Tiara W.

Yelp
This spot is the goat. From the space to the decor to the staff. Amazing. I order a pumpkin spice latte and it was fire! It was the perfect amount if everything. Free wifi available if needed. Nipsey on the wall, wutang, Martin quotes. Its a vibe!
google avatar

Yelp
Scalding hot. Foamy bubbly milk. Can't tell it apart from Starbucks... expected more from a "specialty local craft coffee" shop. I usually order Vietnamese latte or iced coffee here because you can't mess that up. But it's getting colder outside now and I ordered a hot drink. No microfoam. Milk was burning hot through the cup and had to wait 10 min before drinkable. I think I've only ever had one barista here that was able to smoothly integrate perfectly frothed milk into the espresso. Not even asking for latte art lol. Just want a good latte- period. For $6 +$1 tip - not a tall order. Otherwise we can get "lattes" from McDonald's
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
Everything always takes centuries to come out. Service has been bad everytime I've went and there always out of stock.
google avatar

Laura J.

Yelp
Love this place! Jasmines bagel is so yummy and so are the lattes! This is a great coffee spot in SD. We will be coming back next time to try more food and lattes!

Autumn F.

Yelp
This place is literally never open when I want to go... basically every weekend I always walk by just to check if they are open and they are always closed even tho their hours say 7-3... wish I could get some coffee there as I used to work there and I miss the coffee!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Located just a stone's throw from Petco Park, Hob Coffee dispenses some downright delicious coffee guaranteed to secure yourself a Petco perk (I'm not proud of that joke but had to be done). They offer top notch drinks but I'm partial to the seasonal menu that contained both an Ube cold brew and a buko pandan latte. Both were delicious, not too sweet and packed enough caffeine punch to bring Tupac back to life. Although I didn't partake on my first visit, they have baked goods from Split Bakery that looked intriguing and I'll probably indulge next time. When in the hood, give them a visit.
google avatar

Yelp
I've had coffee a few times at both the East Village and North Park locations. I generally have an Americano, but started branching out to try their speciality drinks such as the Kingslayer and Great Pumpkin. The coffee is very good. I've also had breakfast sandwiches here. The ambiance at both locations is nice. It's a great place to study, work or relax a bit.
google avatar

Emmett T.

Yelp
I was looking for a cafe with free internet access where I could sit down and get some work done without having to leave the East Village neighborhood since I had already fed a parking meter. Hob Coffee was located on a corner right across from the San Diego Central Library on Park Blvd. There were tables to sit inside or outside on the sidewalk. They were not busy at all during the lunch hours which made social distancing very easy. On the list of specialty drinks, I wanted to try the Thai Iced Tea on Nitro. Unfortunately, the Thai iced tea was unavailable. I settled for a simple green iced tea ($4) which was average as expected. I was able to secure a spot at a high countertop facing the window. That allowed me to complete multiple tasks on my laptop until a mid-afternoon appointment. Hob Coffee closed at 2 pm so I moved my stuff to a bench outside their suite and finished my online activities before logging out and heading to my next destination.

Yelp
Became a first timer because of their comic-con drinks! They were on the news and all over my feed with their Incredible Hulk and The Boys-themed drinks! I ended up coming back the next morning because the vibe of this shop was just so cool. Hip hop art everywhere, swag, pins, great music, ground beans, FOOOOOD. I get this isn't the only location in town but man I'm glad I came to this one first. The first day of comic con I had the Hulk Smash which was an Pandan latte with Ube foam, but I saw their regular menu and that's what really brought me back. Love that they have viet coffee and chagaccinos in addition to their other signature drinks. My gf loves a good Vietnamese coffee! We also grabbed breakfast in the form of a bagel with prosciutto and cream cheese, and the salmon toast which was STACKED. I actually got full which is not common for me because I rarely have an appetite in the morning but I couldn't stop smacking that salmon toast down! A lot of friends also attested to the great quality and rep of Hob Coffee when I posted it on my story so it's good to know I've become a fan of another awesome SD coffee shop. I'll have to check out the other locations!

Yelp
Really great coffee. My bud ranked them 1/12 out of coffee shops we tried on a recent trip while I ranked them 2/12. They had very creative specialized lattes and were very friendly to us in service. The sitting area was a bit run down but we only came for coffees to go. They wowd us both was their unique flavor combos. Would go again.
google avatar

Van L.

Yelp
Many of my favorite things in one place. Love the vibe/music. very quiet on a Saturday morning. The mint condition hit the spot. I would definitely be back and would choose this location over north park even though it is further from home.
google avatar

Irving T.

Yelp
If you want convenient good-tasting coffee this might not be the place. Ordered a pour over coffee and it took a while for the barista to even take my order let alone get started on the coffee. There was only one other person in the shop. Pour over coffee was really bland even though I got their premium "San Diego Blend". I always take my coffee black to taste all of the notes and it just wasn't it. I could barely get a hint of the blend. The place is very cute though. It has ample work areas and great light. The barista was also very friendly. I'm sure their blended drinks and breakfast must be worth a shot so I'll have to go back and give it another try.

Yelp
Best coffee I had in San Diego. Barista/manager was the best! I wish I had bothered to ask her name AND I also wish I had her level of enthusiasm! Thanks for all the good coffee on a several week stay in SAN. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Sara C.

Yelp
Yummy coffee, love their unique custom drinks and cool names. The place has an underground feel to it, which I love, a super chill place. Love their art decor. Pastries are amazing as well. If you love Raspberry as I do, have the "The 1904" A Vanilla Raspberry Latte.
google avatar

Jenni H.

Yelp
I needed a pick me up my final day of vacation in San Diego. We were exploring the Gaslamp District and found this gem of a coffee spot. Bean Bar isn't super posh... or pretentious. It is laidback, clean and has such a cool vibe about it. I always love when coffee shops seem approachable and not to take themselves too seriously-- Bean Bar was just that. I went with a tried and true... the cappuccino. It was everything I could hope for. This spot checked all my boxes with very, very friendly staff to boot. I'd without a doubt stop in again.
google avatar

Tonya M.

Yelp
Hit this little place waiting for my flight..... What a coffee shop! It's fresh, the scene was lit and the coffee was a smooth drip! I had an Ube cookie vanilla latte..... superb I would come back if I was local!
google avatar

Sara B.

Yelp
Great little coffee shop! Decor is really cool. We came on a Saturday morning around 830ish - pretty empty. We ordered drip coffees. The barista was super nice and brought our coffees out quickly. I get my coffee with almond milk. The baristas put the milk in there for me, but was kind enough to let me know that if i wanted more, she would be more than happy to adjust the cup to my liking. Overall, the coffee is good. Bold and flavorful. I didn't catch what roast it was. Definitely looking forward to becoming a regular here.
google avatar

John G.

Yelp
Had a vanilla lavender latte, it was delicious! It was prepared very quickly and service was excellent.
google avatar

Keiko H.

Yelp
Stopped by this morning since I was in the area. Ordered latte- felt their expresso didn't have much of aroma and wish they use better milk. It wasn't horrible but wasn't good.
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
Very cool coffee shop. Located at the bottom of a nice building, and across the street from a library. What really drew me in was the number of Bean Bar items they sell. I seriously considered buying a few things before I came to my senses. I actually came to Bean Bar to get a cold brew before walking somewhere else for a bagel. The Cold Brew is quiet good, but not on my list of top 10 places to go to. While it's a smooth, I don't think it's strong enough. I value a great cup of cold brew. My go to drink no matter where I go. Barista was friendly. Got our drinks ready within minutes and we were on our way. Plenty of seating, with a bar option along the windows.
google avatar

Tash A.

Yelp
Another local coffee shop doing what they do best - making strong, good coffee. I have to admit, their indoor decoration is AWESOME. Primarily because of the Nipsey Hustle artwork. It's unique and beautiful! I've had their Sirius Black and The Black Mamba. Both are strong and smooth. I took away one star because on both times I've gone here, I've never received a full cup of my beverage. I didn't ask for them to leave any room and there's about 1 inch of empty space! Anywho, other than that hiccup, their staff are friendly and drinks are good! I definitely recommend coming here.
google avatar

DJ M.

Yelp
Best coffee in East Village. Great ambience, great music. They're quick and have an evolving drinks menu based on the season. You have options for coffee in EV, make sure HOB is one you give a try.
google avatar

Jayde T.

Yelp
Delicious coffee with a twist! The 24k gold coffee and the mushroom infused coffee were very good and unique! I really enjoyed the mushroom infused coffee and will definitely return for that exact cup of coffee! The only downside was that food options were not available so I wasn't able to grab a bite to eat.
google avatar

Jina H.

Yelp
Oh man, you know thay feeling where everything is going well and then the order comes and thing go down hill? Well, that's what happened here at Bean Bar. I was looking for a local coffeeshop that doesn't do every single drink bit sticks to coffee and tea, which is exactly what Bean Bar delivered- a cool vibe, with hipster feels to a great location and bench style outdoor seating! The employee too was so kind and offered great recommendations as well as answered all my questions. Even the prices are very reasonable! My order of a iced chai latte came out to $3 and was excited but with one sip, it was so watery. I don't know what I expected since the employee said it would be made with regular milk, but tasted no milk flavor and the color was very light. I even asked which of the tea selections I should get into a tea latte. Maybe the employee and I just had miscommunication which could definitely be possible as I am new to the whole coffee and tea culture. I drank less than a fourth of it and had to discard it. I am just confused now...
google avatar

Cacey T.

Yelp
My first time inside the establishment. I noticed in their menu their signature drink called the Kingslayer. I thought I would give it a try. I was offered it hot, cold, or iced. I chose to have it hot and it certainly lived up to it's expectations. A great blend of cinnamon, coffee , and more. I did not have to add anything extra as it came perfect as it is.
google avatar

Chanel Y.

Yelp
I came here for coffee the other day for the first time, and it's super cute, I love the vibe, and GIRL the iced chai was so good! Not sure if they sweeten it with honey or with something else but it was so freaking delicious!! It's very clean and the staff was also very nice, and I will definitely go back!
google avatar

A.J. P.

Yelp
Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. I ordered the nitro cold brew. I was thinking about getting the Black Mamba for Kobe, which is a nitro cold brew with a shot of espresso. I opted out, because I wanted to be able to sleep again this week. I'll be back next time I'm in San Diego
google avatar

Ru L.

Yelp
Right on the front window is Hob's genius marketing phrase, "coffee is dope." For sure! I had their Serious Black, a smooth, dark coffee that packs a punch. Hob's also has a plethora of latte's, like 20+ blends and flavors. The barista was friendly and the place is a laid back spot tucked away in downtown San Diego.
google avatar

Jannell O.

Yelp
Great customer service and the insides very cute. Really homey feel to relax with friends. The barista helped me pick out my Coffe it was delicious. It was a Kingsley Coffe and added extra cinnamon tasted great string but not to overwhelming along with the right sweetness and their bakery goods look so good. Cheese danish was good and little sweet. Definitely coming back with my bf to try it
google avatar

Trisha V.

Yelp
Just a note they source beans and will only bring you the BEST! These beans are unique and fresh and ready to put some pep in your step! Weather you chose a pour over or expresso shot you're in for a treat.
google avatar

Donn V.

Yelp
Neighborhood coffee joint just a few blocks from our hotel. They make great oatmilk lattes. We also had their avocado toast, which was delicious (I forgot to take a picture of it). Cool vibe and laidback ambiance. Great place to hangout and sip some. Pet friendly as well.
google avatar

Gracie M.

Yelp
This coffee shop has it all! Good munchies, wonderful ambiance, friendly staff, and of course GREAT COFFEE. They have a beautiful outdoor high bar to sit in the shade and people watch and a lofty and aesthetically pleasing interior. Located conveniently by the library and Petco Park, it's a must-stop. PS the summer bowl is superb.
google avatar

Bacong F.

Yelp
This is my second time trying this chain. The steamer for my kid was great since she wanted more. Steamer can be ordered plain or flavored. The nitro brew purple rain was a miss for me. There was an aftertaste to it. The ube sweet foam smells great though. Great service.
google avatar

Mason M.

Yelp
excellent service and happy vibes from their best barista Lana! Recommended the King Slayer w Oat Milk very Thankful bc that slayed my coffee craving for the day! Thank you again Lana!
