Wow,what a disappointment. I've not been here in awhile and was craving a good Jersey bagel. I'm not sure what's happened but this went in the trash. I noticed the bagels in the bin all looked very light but I was engaged in conversation with the owner. 2 bucks for a bagel,I asked for toasted, light butter, $4 bucks. I even commented,he said butter went up,yes, agreed but not as high as eggs and waffle house is charging.50 cents extra. 2 bucks was even too much for this very raw bagel. Very few sesame seeds and flat like a pancake. It was not toasted and tasted awful. The place was empty at lunch time and look like it has not been cleaned in years. 30 years in business, may be time to hang it up
Surely he could not think this is a good bagel.
I was just getting out of my car to go back in when 2 customers walked in and I honestly did not want to embarrass him. Then he came out and I got his attention and showed him what I just paid 4 bucks for
He was ok with what he sold me,he said the girl didn't toast it enough and that's how he makes them , raw?
He offered to replace it, offered a drink or danish,no thanks, what he did not offer was my 4 bucks back.
He said he makes them like that because old people can't struggle to bite hard bagels. I've never had hard bagels. He said he wasn't for me,a good bagel is pretty much the same wherever good bagels are sold. He told me to go to Arts or Sonny's. I've been to both, good authentic bagels. I told him I'd been to him before and this was not what I've gotten. He said he works hard and when I said it was a rip off he said no.
I handed him my bag with bagel,he took it and as he walked back in the shop he threw it over the fence into the ground....that spoke volumes for the filthy inside. He said he does great, well not during lunch time.
