Where to Find the Best Bagels in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"Tucked away in an industrial strip mall, Hoboken Bread & Bagel Company offers a straightforward menu of soft, fluffy bagels. While these bagels are not authentic New York-style, this little-known bakery is well worth the departure. The family-run deli offers a range of flavors such as honey wheat and rye to garlic herb and pumpernickel. A streamlined selection of cream cheeses includes smoked salmon, veggie, and berry cinnamon swirl among others." - Beth McKibben

Went here based on reviews, and it was close to where I work. Figured I would try during my break. Got a hot pastrami sandwich. Didn't know what to expect. Saw that the pastrami was (or at least appeared to be) prepackaged. I was hoping to see them slice it fresh in front of me, but that wasn't the case. Also, I'm disappointed they didn't have sauerkraut (not a big deal), but thats a personal preference when I have a pastrami sandwich. Price versus value is a bit higher than I'd like for what I received. I also think I caught them at a bad time because everything was disheveled in the restaurant. No tables were set up, and all the furniture was shoved to one side, and someone was sweeping and piling up trash on the opposite end of the shop. I'll give this place another chance, but this first impression was not what I anticipated.

Google
Cheddar Cheese Bagel with Cream Cheese was decent, but the Bagel with Egg Salad is a must-try! 🥯🥚 The owner is super friendly, and even though the shop is small and run by just three people, they offer a wide variety of bagels at reasonable prices. No phone reservations, so plan accordingly! Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Google
Wow,what a disappointment. I've not been here in awhile and was craving a good Jersey bagel. I'm not sure what's happened but this went in the trash. I noticed the bagels in the bin all looked very light but I was engaged in conversation with the owner. 2 bucks for a bagel,I asked for toasted, light butter, $4 bucks. I even commented,he said butter went up,yes, agreed but not as high as eggs and waffle house is charging.50 cents extra. 2 bucks was even too much for this very raw bagel. Very few sesame seeds and flat like a pancake. It was not toasted and tasted awful. The place was empty at lunch time and look like it has not been cleaned in years. 30 years in business, may be time to hang it up Surely he could not think this is a good bagel. I was just getting out of my car to go back in when 2 customers walked in and I honestly did not want to embarrass him. Then he came out and I got his attention and showed him what I just paid 4 bucks for He was ok with what he sold me,he said the girl didn't toast it enough and that's how he makes them , raw? He offered to replace it, offered a drink or danish,no thanks, what he did not offer was my 4 bucks back. He said he makes them like that because old people can't struggle to bite hard bagels. I've never had hard bagels. He said he wasn't for me,a good bagel is pretty much the same wherever good bagels are sold. He told me to go to Arts or Sonny's. I've been to both, good authentic bagels. I told him I'd been to him before and this was not what I've gotten. He said he works hard and when I said it was a rip off he said no. I handed him my bag with bagel,he took it and as he walked back in the shop he threw it over the fence into the ground....that spoke volumes for the filthy inside. He said he does great, well not during lunch time.

Google
The establishment provided excellent value, complemented by friendly and efficient staff, and the food was of high quality. It is regrettable that this location was not discovered sooner.

Google
Love these guys. Always so friendly and positive The jalapeno bagel with sausage, egg and cheese will never let you down. Their cookies, muffins and loafs are amazing too.

Google
Bagels are fluffy with generous amounts of cream cheese. Delicious NY style bagels!! Had a toasted scallion schmear and a salmon cream cheese everything bagel. The owners were really nice and greeting their regulars by name.

Google
Best bagel in metro ATL…classic NJ style bagel shop and bakery. My blueberry bagel this AM was fantastic and the service is top tier. Will be back!

Google
Started coming here in 2003 and then moved away for 11 years. We returned to GA in 2017 and visited here right away. George immediately recognized us! Now, we don’t live close by but I visited with a friend today and again, he immediately knew who I was and was so appreciative of our patronage. GREAT service and great food served by great people. Highly recommend and can’t wait to come back for lunch and get the chicken salad! 😊

Yelp
Go in, order your food, get out. It's that sort of place. The workers are very friendly, but this is no frills take out only (okay, there is a small table and I've even heard him offer to drag it outside for a customer who wanted to eat out there.) Their pastrami sandwich "done the Hoboken way" is the stuff of dream. The bread and meat melt in your mouth and it's just amazing. I recommend the pasta salad and a side. It's a tiny, tiny cup of pasta salad - like a condiment cup size - but it packs and amazing amount of flavor so it's all you need.

Yelp
Two stars instead of one in hopes they get better. If you are looking for a NY Bagel, this is NOT it. It's not even a good bagel, as it's more like regular bread in a bagel form. Good bread for a sandwich, but not a bagel. They are disorganized as well. They serve people out of turn, mix up or forget your order, and they argue at each other behind the counter in front of the customers. Makes everyone very uncomfortable. The place is not what one would expect for a deli either... Two stars, and we do not recommend.

Yelp
A very easy 5 star. Wow, what great tasting, fresh sandwiches they make. And great Danishes too. I got the Hoboken, Turkey and Swiss, on wheat bread. My wife got the Italian on a sub roll. Both sandwiches were very good and fresh. The wheat bread was homemade and definitely one of the best wheat breads I have ever had. The sub roll was soft and fresh, very good. I also got a cream cheese Danish. It was awesome. The service was good and friendly. The employee answered all my wife's questions about the menu.

Yelp
This little nook is easy to miss if you're traveling down Sandy Plains. But the food & service are not! When entering, George and his team will likely get you with a friendly Hello or a 'Hey Cuz'. Even with his whimsical phone greeting, "Hoboken, we're not jokin' " you'll catch the vibe. The sandwiches are piled HIGH and really filling. I ordered the red bliss potato salad as a side to my Pastrami on rye and a Dr. Brown's soda - the perfect lunch! And then, George will send you on your way with a 'Peace & Love' goodbye. Gotta Love it!

Yelp
This is a tiny hole in the wall that serves bagel, muffins, and pies. The bagels come in a variety of flavors with several cream cheese options as well. I enjoyed my visit and the personality of the owners. Friendly and outgoing. When we mentioned that it was our first time there offered us some suggestions and told us all about the pies. You can tell they care no about their product. My bagel and my sandwich were both solid. The veggie cream cheese was delicious. The sandwich came with a few side choices. Overall if I was in the area I would come back. There is no seating so we are in our car.

Maria M.

Yelp
Don't expect real bagels at this place. The bagels here are thick and much softer than regular bagels, also somewhat fluffy. Like a denser/thicker sandwich bread. Very disappointing. The owner is friendly but the service is all over the place, very chaotic. The inside is very small and so messy, with stuff all over the place. Doesn't look very clean either. I will not be returning to this place.

Brenda M.

Yelp
Food is consistent and great. Service is always great and great New Jersey feel. I will visit again.
google avatar

Rey F.

Yelp
The food is devine, real fresh and the cannoli is awesome. We will be back. My favorite is the meat ball parm. Service is pretty quick and the ambiance is family oriented

Yelp
WARNING: this is a bagel to be reckoned with! I'd have to say, in my 54 years, this has to be one of the best bagels I've ever eaten! I had the Asiago bagel with veggie cream cheese ( to die for) tomatoes and onions. They do not skimp on cream cheese or toppings! While I was waiting, I noticed the bakery counter, and a lovely cheese danish whispered to me. It was pretty incredible as well. The guy who owns it waited on me and he was very cheerful and pleasant. I'm working in the area for the next month, so I will definitely be back! The lunch menu looked outstanding so I can't wait to get a pastrami/swiss/rye! Hoboken ain't Joken!

Jon S.

Yelp
Fantastic lunch! Friendly, fast service and delicious sandwiches, fresh coffee and tea... what a refreshing experience- folks who care About their customers and the food they make! Great vale and fresh and delicious! First visit- Will definitely be back. I'm probably exposing a hidden gem...
google avatar

Sherrie H.

Yelp
I was looking for a quick lunch after a meeting in the area and used Yelp to locate this hidden gem. People were great - had the chicken salad and croissant. OMG - fresh and tons of chicken! I will be back!
google avatar

Savannah M.

Yelp
The best bagel i have ever had. Dough to crunch ratio was perfection. Everything bagel with cream cheese, simple but delicious! You won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Kelsi H.

Yelp
Yummy bagels and great service! This was my first time in and everyone made me feel so welcome. I got the bacon egg and cheese on an onion bagel. YUM!! I also got some bagels to go. Definitely loved this place and will be back.

Liza A.

Yelp
I got the Lox Bagel and the Italian on Sourdough bread. Both were absolutely delicious and these pictures don't even do them justice! The environment and ambiance is awesome and the people working were so sweet! I'm so happy I found this place because I am definitely going to be a new regular! Definitely recommend:)
google avatar

Matthew L.

Yelp
Great little locally owned spot serving simple but great New York style bagels. Some sandwiches ontbe menu as well. Everything bagel with chive cream was delicious. Will stop by for a baker's dozen next time the family is in town!

Zachary T.

Yelp
Incredible sandwich! Felt like I was back in Jersey eating that pastrami. It is a to go spot but sandwhich is definitely worth the stop!

Yelp
Bought a dozen bagels on Saturday. We live in Mableton and there are zero places to buy a dozen nearby. So sad that this seems to be the norm for this wonderful community. Well the bagels are ok. There is a bialy consistency to them. If you don't know what that means it is more of a soft roll like texture. They are way too high priced for a dozen bagels. I will continue my search.

Bruce H.

Yelp
Stopped in Tuesday morning for a sesame bagel with scallion cream cheese. First time visiting the business. Service was fast and friendly. However, that was the highlight. I have to say that this was probably the worst bagel I've ever had. The texture was too soft and there was no chew or structure. It appeared that the bagel was way underbaked.
google avatar

Graham B.

Yelp
Excellent bagels. Love ownership here. Great people. Would recommend to anyone wanting a good cup of coffee and bagel.

Melissa O.

Yelp
This little place was hopping on a Saturday morning. But we were greeted quickly. They were very friendly. There are many bagel flavors. And they tasted great!!
google avatar

Morgan M.

Yelp
With the name "Hoboken" I was expecting to have the best bagel in GA. New Jersey has the best bagels so I was really expecting to have a phenomenal bagel. It was okay. Nothing special, nor would I go back. The guy at the register was super nice but the woman working there was quite rude and referred to me and my boyfriend as young children when we are actually adults. NOT IMPRESSED! Quite Disappointed, don't waste your time! A

Thania R.

Yelp
My sister and I wanted to try a new bagel place, we saw this place and decided to check it out. As soon as we walked in we felt very welcome. They had breakfast and lunch options. Very great environment and food.
google avatar

Yelp
My wife and I have been looking for the right local bagel spot for a few years in Marietta. Very happy to say that we found it in Hoboken Bread and Bagel. The owner, Anne, was very hospitable and it's clear she cares deeply about Hoboken's neighborhood reputation and presence. Excellent bagel sandwiches and muffins all around. We'll be back for years to come.

Nate M.

Yelp
Doesn't get better than this! The bagels got a nice crunch on the outside, but are soft and fluffy on the inside. Being from New York I can say these are just as good as the ones there. The owner is awesome and super friendly. I love supporting this small business

Nam H.

Yelp
I got the vegetarian sandwich with fresh mozzarella. No fresh tomatoes like the description. But my problem was the giant pieces/chunks of mozzarella and the enormous chunks of cold roasted peppers. Such an ice cold sandwich. Bread not tasty, and sandwich very ACIDIC with the balsamic and with the giant pieces not appetizing, especially getting it home and the bread is soggy with the acid. But you pay $13 so you eat it! Wish I'd tried a bagel with cream cheese. One and done I guess.
google avatar

Shahdat A.

Yelp
Great service, super friendly staff, and a long standing town staple for good reason. Got the lox with a coffee, and everything turned out perfect. Even the coffee was the perfect temp to take on the go. Will definitely be coming back
google avatar

Jason F.

Yelp
This is the best bagel place in Georgia hands down. The service is top-notch. It's got a really old school feel and the owners are nice people. Where else can you get New York style bagels in the south!
google avatar

Jimmy R.

Yelp
The bagel with lox is really good but pretty overpriced compared to other areas. Place does have a great vibe and the owners seemed really know many of the locals you come in.
google avatar

Bonnie S.

Yelp
I stopped by Hoboken with a friend who had claimed this place was his one and only bagel joint. I just had to try out their croissant New York style which was absolutely delicious! The croissant was stuffed with smoked salmon and was generously lathered with cream cheese. It also had fresh tomatoes, onions and capers that add a very refreshing flavor to the mix! Loved everything about it. The size of the sandwich was also bigger than average and the croissant itself was super buttery and fluffy. Hoboken is owned by a very nice couple who's son recently started college at Georgia Tech! (Go jackets!!!) They are such kind and wonderful people who made us feel right at home :) I highly recommend anyone in the area to stop by for a bagel or a croissant!
google avatar

T E.

Yelp
Very friendly owner makes you feel welcome. The food was excellent, handmade, fresh and prepared with care.

Chris R.

Yelp
Great corn beef and pastrami sandwiches. Super positive owner. This will become a regular stop for us when we're on that area.
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
The service here was so welcoming I didn't even realize I was there for food until I was reminded it was time to order! George welcomed us in as if he knew us already. It was such a sweet experience and I felt so happy being there and getting to know more about the business. I wish I could've just sat down and talked to everyone for hours. Thank you for treating us so kindly. Not to mention yummy food! I got the Nova Lox Bagel and it was a perfect start to my day.
google avatar

Nadine M.

Yelp
Best bagel i ever had The quality is outstanding and super friendly service. They're stuff is authentic has a big portion
google avatar

David Y.

Yelp
Been going here for awhile. The couple that owns it is super friendly and knows me by name! Love their lox bagels and cream cheese. Overall delicious food and friendly staff!

Patrick D.

Yelp
Great hole in the wall bagel shop. These people are fantastic and the food shows. Any time you're around the area stop in!
google avatar

sam l.

Yelp
Hands down one of my favorite bagel Joints, but the roast beef sandwich in the onion roll/bun is great! Also, highly recommend the potato salad. Staff is always welcoming and helpful.

Meg C.

Yelp
This might be the place you come to if you need to grab a dozen bagels but the breakfast sandwiches are not good. I don't understand all the raving reviews. Not a super clean place either. Everything is done in the microwave. It's like a slice of Kraft American cheese with a microwaved egg and then the bagel barrrrrely toasted at all. Not an enjoyable breakfast.
google avatar

Lilly C.

Yelp
Hoboken Bread and Bagel is a jewel in the Marietta, GA area. I've lucky enough to be eating here going on 20 years and loving every crumb morsel of it! What: Made fresh daily bagels that are size of your face, sandwiches piled a mile high with freshly sliced meat, on still warm freshly baked bread. Homemade red potato with dill salad that you can eat like ice cream. Best of all the owners are the most awesome folks. Almost everyone here knows everyone and if they don't they will learn it soon enough because one bite of their bagels and you will see why folks drive 30 minutes out of their way just to come here! Fair warning-get here early because once they run out...its closing time. As for parking, it's competitive esp at lunch time when folks are hangry! To get here turn when you see the Chevron Gas station. It's in the right corner...Don't miss it!
google avatar

Denisse O.

Yelp
We are pastrami's new number one fans. We visited this hidden deli (located on Sandy Plains in Marietta) and were blown out of the water by the delicious flavors. We sampled the pastrami on rye, Hoboken, Brisket chili, and French onion. The pastrami was to die for - especially dipped in the French Onion Soup (and we CANNOT name a better duo). We polished off our lunch with guava and blueberry pastries The owner was awesome and met us outside with recommendations and to take our order. - Wear your mask and prepare since it is take out only!
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
This is my morning go to. The owners are so incredible and I just can't imagine stopping by to see them. Truly the best egg bagel I've ever had. Being in the restaurant business myself I love a place that is owned by a family. Small businesses are my thing!! They have been there 27 years!!! I've missed out 27 years of goodness! & the pecan pie is to die for!
google avatar

Quest And C.

Yelp
Friendly owner, great selection of bagels, sandwiches and other homemade pastries. Fresh ingredients with everything made to order. A must try if you're looking for a NY style bagel/bakery.

George H.

Yelp
I finally found a place near me where I can get my bagel and lox fix! George and Anne are great, only wish I found them sooner.
google avatar

Adam K.

Yelp
This place is the Delish!! This place has been my go to for bagels for years!! Chicken salad on a salad is a must as well and any of Annie's desserts!!
google avatar

Michael J.

Yelp
Amazing crumb cake. I don't believe they make this all the time. I just happened to call them and they had it.
google avatar

Erin D.

Yelp
I just went there and it was amazing! There was definitely a warm and welcoming feeling as soon as I walked in. I got the lox bagel and it was so delicious. I cannot recommend this place enough!!
google avatar

Amy G.

Yelp
This is my favorite spot for lox on a bagel. I don't know how they make it so incredible good, but it is game changing and no other place has been able to complete since. Is it the softness of the cream cheese? The perfect amount of red onion and capers? The soft-chewy-crunchy-ness of the toasted everything bagel? Maybe it's the high quality of the lox? Whatever it is, I am determined to keep coming back and back and back until I can figure it out.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
Terrific all around!! The food, the people, the vibe. 5 stars. Throwback Jersey deli worth the stop
google avatar

Veronica J.

Yelp
Hands-down the best bagel I have ever had in my life. Can't even think of another bagel that tasted half as good as these. They bake the bagels fresh on a daily basis until they are sold out. I went with a friend of mine who had lox cream cheese capers and I don't remember what I was on the bagel but I can tell you that it was to die for. I went another time and ordered bagels for a few people they were vacationing and they agreed that the bagel was as amazing!!! Definitely give this mom and pop shop a try they will learn your name if you become a regular and they are very appreciative and genuinely positive with their customer service as well as their food. The store is pristine clean and brews Jamaican blue Mountain coffee.
google avatar

Coryn M.

Yelp
Holy. Mother. The BEST pastrami I have ever had. Period. This is a tiny bagel and sandwich shop with a small menu. Doesn't matter if the menu is small; if you get anything other than the pastrami, then you're doing it wrong. Staff are very friendly and outgoing. Awesome local business to support. Will be driving back up from Atlanta just for this.

Carey S.

Yelp
Service was amazing, very friendly staff. Bagels were incredible. I got the nova lox and it's probably the best nova lox I've ever had. Will definitely be back!
