Was very excited to see a coffee shop open up in the neighborhood. I'm still glad for its presence, but sometimes I'm left wanting a bit more. I would give 3.5 stars, if that were possible.
Pros:
- Easy walk if you are in the neighborhood.
- The baked goods are tasty, they have a variety of meat patties (Jamaican style) as well as savory popover type pastry.
- Staff are pretty cool.
The meh stuff:
- Consistency and quality with drinks is spotty. The milk in my last latte was warmed barely above room temp. Not sure if they have thermometers at hand, but they should and use them every time for a consistent temp.
- Weird hours -- I get it, no need to stay open if your costs are more than your revenue. Recently they've changed hours from 5 to 4, unbeknownst to me. I'm literally walking in the door at 4:01 and the employee says "we're closed," pulls the door shut, and locks it. Funnily enough I only wanted a bottle of juice....not a complicated espresso-based drink.
All in all, I'm glad Hodgepodge is there. But it's kind of like that one flaky friend, they're really cool and you like hanging out, but you can't count on them to be there when you need them.
