I love how this company managed to make fluffy vegan eggs with tofu without tasting like tofu. Not that I dislike tofu. But I love the versatility the true egg flavor adds to my life because having everything taste like straight tofu gets boring. We use this product weekly and mostly for breakfast or brunch. I am a retired vegan MD who is highly attuned to the downsides of processed foods and sodium. When I recently stumbled across this HODO brand of Tofu (the basic organic version) I was blown away. At last, a processed food that is not doing it's best to poison the consumer in the name of product shelf-life and/or pandering to the public's addiction to salt! It's salt, cholesterol, trans-fat, and saturated fat free. It has significantly more protein and less overall fat than all the other premium Tofu brands carried at my Whole Foods Market. And most importantly for us Vegans, it has a robust amount of calcium. I eat one 10 oz package of the product daily and that gives me a 42gm protein and 780mg Calcium boost. This is outstanding! It has a very pleasantly dense consistency. I use it right out of the package over my home-made sodium-free humus atop toasted sodium-free Ezekiel bread, or in my salads. It's great. Hodo: I can't thank you enough for making a perfect product. Please don't change this sodium-free recipe or sell the business.

Was fine with the tofu until my mom found a hair sealed inside of a package of Moroccan tofu. We’re kinda hesitant to eat the rest now.

Wonderful organic, non-gmo tofu! I love their yuba (tofu skin), braised tofu, and soy milk. Their are so many distinctly Asian foods that you simply cannot buy in organic, non-gmo form! This is true even for soy products. For example, while you can find the organic, non-gmo extra-firm tofu popular in salads and as a vegan substitute, until now I could never find any organic, non-gmo braised tofu. And it simply does not taste the same when you try and substitute extrafirm tofu. I am so excited to finally be able make some organic, non-gmo braised tofu stir-fry and tofu skin rolls (fu pi juan)!

I have tried the braised tofu, and its very good. Would be Fantastic if I didnt feel guilty eating it because animals were hurt and killed in glue traps while making it. Please find another way!! dont hurt our fellow earthlings!

Hodo is delicious and wholesome. I love supporting them - both for their values of sustainability and for the fact that they are such a local staple. Hodo is the best - especially for a vegan like me!

The tofu is already drained and wonderfully seasoned. I’ve used it in wraps, stews and stir fries. It freezes very well, too.

I enjoyed the semi monthly tour of the factory in Oakland: *Bubbly tour guide *Generous tastings of all their goods *A short informative video *Unlimited Q&A *Viewing of the making of my favorite Hodo product, YUBA!!! Super cool stuff, I hope their factory is not moving to NYC, there was a mention in the video, what they don't want to stay in West Oak?!??! Yeah it's a little scary out there. Drive your beater.

If anyone remembers literally the worlds best veggie burger, wildwood...well....these hodo veggie burgers are AT Least as good...if not better....plus, you can buy these and wildwood burgers went the way of the acquisition.

Disclaimer: I haven't eaten at this location, BUT I have tried a bunch of their products at Costco, Whole Foods, and Rainbow Grocery. I'm obsessed with Hodo Soy. No seriously. I first discovered Hodo Soy at Costco when I was picking up the shirataki noodles nearby when their tofu burgers caught my eye. Odd, since I've only eaten a veggie burger once in my life but for some reason, I was intrigued and decided to try it out since it seemed healthy and interesting and you didn't need to cook it. The next day, I plopped open the tofu burgers in the microwave for 1 minute and took a small bite. It was delicious! I ended up eating the burger all by itself (because it didn't need any additional seasoning or complementary foods). I started to do some research, and discovered that soy is one of the only 2 complete plant-based proteins out there, as well as the only plant-based protein that is highly digestible. I like that Hodo Soy make soy foods that taste good (how many ways can you prepare tofu?), has clean ingredients, and is ready-to-eat. -Tofu Burger - Delicious. I love the addition of healthy veggies (carrots, cabbage, shiitake mushrooms). Buy this at Costco for a better price. -Thai Curry Nuggets - Love how this has a hint of spice without being spicy. Great texture. Feels like I'm eating out at a Thai restaurant. $6 at Whole Foods -Sesame Yuba Noodles - $7 at Rainbow Groceries. Not sold at Whole Foods (the spicy version is though). Also, check out their website to see which one you want to try and use Instacart to see where it's located. Not every item is at one store (ex. Costco only sells the tofu burgers).

I've been buying Hodo Soy Beanery's goods for ages now, and I couldn't be more stoked that they're now slingin' their local, organic, and non-GMO soy products from a teensy little corner of the adult Disneyland known as the Ferry Building. If you don't know about Hodo already, they're a local soy operation based out of Oakland, and before this pop-up shop broke ground just a few days ago, you'd typically just see their stuff in the coolers at places like Whole Foods, Green Earth Natural Foods, and Rainbow Grocery, among others. Often times you'll come across a pretty limited run of their basic tofu products, but now with their new kiosk just a stone's throw from **Gott's Roadside along the Embarcadero, you can dabble in the same wholesome 100% vegan soy-based eats, but whipped together into anything from delectable yuba strip salads, sweet and savory rice puddings, "egg" salad sandwiches, and more! It's grab and go style, so if you're in a hurry and want to nosh on something crazy healthy on the run, look no further. This is just about as good as it gets. In addition to their prepared grub, you can take home packages of their amazing tofu for much cheaper by than what you'll pay at any retailer in town by buying direct. Plus, they have harder to find items like their tea and chipotle flavored tofu steaks for your buying pleasure. As if I needed another reason to fall in love with the Ferry Building! **Side note: with Hodo being your new neighbor, how about throwing a bomb ass vegan burger on the menu made with their soy, Gott's?!

I've never been to their place of business. This review is of the Hodo tofu veggie burgers, bought from the refr case in the grocery store. I'm looking for a good plant based burger! This isn't it. The package contained two patties. I warmed them both up, ate one in a burger, and.... tossed the other one in the garbage, with prejudice. It was awful. Taste is subjective, so perhaps I should just say, it was not to my taste. Next contestant, please!

We went on the Hodo Soy Beanery tour on Wed 11/3/10. You have to RSVP online & pay $10pp via Paypal. Tours are only available every other Wednesday at 12:30pm and last up to 1hr. NO Public Bathrooms for people on the Tour! Parking along the street is FREE, nothing around their factory. We parking in front of an apartment. Tour: Got to try some fresh, hot soymilk. That was good. Then watched a short video from the Owner. Then curtain is opened so we can look at the factory floor. That was fine. Then you can eat samples of the different stuff they make & sell at Farmers Market & Whole Foods. I got some stuff: Spicy Yuba (tofu sheets). $4 a small container. Liked it a lot. Yuba (tofu sheets) - $7 for 2 sheets. Tasty. Medium firm tofu $2.50 for a block. Tasty. Paid CASH $13.50. Credit cards not taken. Not sold from their factory unless on the tour. If you can't go on a tour, find them at Farmers Market in the Bay Area or at Whole Foods.

Hodo is local and organic - and I used to always love buying their products at the Temescal and Berkeley Farmer's markets from the ever-sunny and professional Maria. Sad to report - that Hodo no longer sells at the farmer's markets! Sad Jenn has to go buy her yummy Hodo at Whole Paycheck. Not too thrilled about all the extra packaging for the curry and chinese five spice tofu puffs -- those chewy little nuggets of joy that make salads so incredibly yummy are one of my favorite foods EVER!! The yuba sheets slice up and taste great cold drizzled with l emon or lime, and work well mixed into a pan of sauteed asparagus or broccoli in veggie stock. The grab-n-go yuba strips are also fantastic - I often eat a whole package of spicy yuba strips for an easy lunch (yum!). Hodo's firm tofu is my favorite - it's got excellent flavor whether eaten cold or cooked up as part of whatever dish I am making. Great stuff - highly recommend it!

I'm SOY-happy~! A dear friend brought back the following delights: * Spicy Yuba strips = think bean-curd chewy strips (reminiscent of inari skins - sweet), well-marinated, and slightly spicy. Yum! * v-EGG-an salad = mmmm, watch out M Cafe! (not really, they're hundreds of miles apart store-wise). This tofu salad is awesome! Overall: Delectable! And so healthy! 4.5 stars! This is a must-try if out in Oakland area~

I love the spicy yuba strips from Hodo. I make all sorts of salads with it and it's just so versatile. One day I had a bunch of vegetables that I needed to eat before leaving for a trip so I tossed spicy yuba with snap peas, arugula and enoki mushrooms, this was healthy and delicious. My other favorite from Hodo is the five spice nuggets. You can stir fry that with anything and it's so good.

Yet another prepared food stand at the Ferry Building Farmer's Market. The only difference: completely vegetarian. Though a meatatarian myself, I am open minded enough to try vegetarian food from time to time (the same open mindedness is usually not reciprocated by vegetarians). The dishes are hearty, innovative and full of flavor with loads of options to choose from. Can definitely have some tasty meat-free Tuesday lunches thanks to this stand. Kung Pao Tofu Salad:A firm, smoked tofu served with a load of cilantro, peanuts, chili pepper flakes and a few mushrooms. The cilantro really helps to give a fresh zing. The tofu has a lot of texture, feeling like tofu skin layered together. I wish the sauce could have permeated throughout the tofu though since the insides taste a little bland and smokey. Spicy Soy Croquettes: Shaped like meat balls with a bready consistency center. The chili oil on the outside is sparse and just barely coats the croquettes. A tad dry. Deceptively filling!

Hodo soy beanery is just one of many tofu purveyors out there. this may have been the first time i've seen them. locale: berkeley f.m. palo alto f.m. offerings: tofu strips, "spring rolls", "fake" tofu meats, soy drinks, etc.. sampling: unsweetened soy milk (32 oz/4) -just a thirst quencher i thought -deep rich soy bean taste, not grainy, watery nor chalky at all. -tasted better than my usual soy bean milk (1.29/pt?) found in asian marts. soy bits: -no pricing on items, pricing higher than normal soy products -samples available -friendly, competent service.

The tofu is good. The customer service is non existent. This company does not return phone messages or Facebook messages or email messages. We have left so many we lost count. We will not support a business like this anymore if they don't care about their customers.

I don't care how much you love steak, omnivores and vegans alike can delight at the bodacious soybean bites from Hodo. I used to be pretty ambivalent about tofu, but Hodo Soy has totally changed my mind about its foodie-worthiness. How they make tofu so damn delicious, I have no idea. Actually, that's a lie; I've been on Hodo's factory tour twice (one for the regular tour, and a second time with Slow Food for a tour/tofu making workshop), so I have a pretty good idea of how the magic happens. The tofu masters here start by pressing the richest, fattiest organic soy milk to make tofu and yuba ("tofu skin" - silly name, serious yum) from scratch for the freshest, tastiest tofu you'll ever eat. You can buy the basic tofu (firm, medium, and silken) or yuba for your own creations, or you can get some pre-made items like fried tofu puffs, five spice tofu jerky, tea-infused tofu, spicy sesame yuba salad, or tofu vegetable burgers (spicy yuba salad and tofu burgers are my fave). Also fun fact: their farmer's market stand people are pretty generous with samples. In sum, try the tofu, and if you're the curious type, sign up for a tour!

Love the soy products at the HSB food stand. The poached yuba loaf is similar to the popular "veggie goose" dim sum dish found in some Chinese restaurants. Ask for free samples to determine what u like. All the ready-to-eat items (tofu braised edamame, tofu cilantro, tofu braised sesame, sesame yuba strips, spicy yuba strips, etc.) are good, but my favorite items are probably the soy omelette and the spicy soy croquettes. It's one of the food stands I often look for on Tuesdays and Saturdays at the Ferry Plaza FM. Their products can also be found at other FMs and grocery stores.

We went for the tour and discovered some great tasting food and some nice folks who do business well. It's great to be able to see where and how our food is made. I came away impressed at how pure the food is and how very-few steps and additives get it from the farm to the table! We were especially impressed with the Sesame and Spicy Yuba. It's going to be one of the new holiday (and every day) favorites on our table.

I love your products - but have to downgrade you to one star until you swear off using GLUE TRAPS. Please read up and be responsible and ditch the traps! RIGHT ON HODO SOY! YOU JUST ANNOUNCED YOU STOPPED USING GLUE TRAPS! WAY TO GO. THANK YOU!!!

For a couple of years, I've been enjoying my ritual of going to the Temescal Farmers Market. This is where I first discovery the Hodo Soy Beanery's amazing food. My girlfriend still doesn't understand the virtues of soy in all its forms. There's some sort of stigma attached to tofu. People associate it with meat substitutes that never resemble the real thing. This isn't the case with any of Hodo's products. They stand on their own right. They don't need to pretend to be meat. Try them. They are simply delicious. - Cilantro tofu salad was where I started. There are two different kinds of tofu, cilantro, sesame oil, and mushroom powder. I use it for a nice salad with cucumbers and tomatoes. - Spicy Soy Croquettes are dynamite. Spicy. Filling. Great addition to rice or stir fries. - Soy Omelette is folded layers of tofu skin (yuba). Great flavor. Great texture. Stands alone wonderfully. - Soy Custard with ginger syrup is a very refreshing dessert If you're interested in creating your own meals with tofu, buy the tofu blocks. Don't go overboard they definitely go a long way. I've started experimenting with them and recipes I find on Heidi's 101cookbooks.com blog (fantastic site for all things tasty and yummy!). Next time you go to your farmers market and someone offers you something you normally wouldn't try, do yourself a favor and give it a go. I did with this and have loved my days since. Don't say no to great flavor and healthy food. Oh, the people working the markets are fantastic...They really get to know their customers and engage them in conversation. They truly go out of their way to encourage repeat customers.

One word you need to know: Yuba (yoo-bah). Thin creamy sheets of tofu skin (ew?) that when sauteed taste exactly like egg noodles with tons of butter. Anyway. I love this Bay Area beanery. They just care. SO MUCH. About *tofu* And *soy milk* They care so much that they will talk to you for hours about their tofu And their yuba They will give you tours of their facility And teach you how you might (attempt to) replicate their glory (heart)

Great soy! I love the braised stuff, the custard-y thing, the strips, etc. I like it all. My favorites though are the spicy braised and the kung pao braised! I like how they have a sampling bar...kewl! Fresh stuff. Great flavors. Totally good soy. Pricewise...I'm not so keen on spending it, but I think I only buy stuff here once a year. The only reason why they lose a star (technically, half-a-star...)! They only sell at Farmer's Markets too! Cash only.

Minh the tofu guy has got to be the coolest dude ever to push product to soy junkies all over the Bay Area. Every freakin' time he gets cleaned out at the farmers' market, which means you have to get there early enough to snag one of those primo blocks of the white stuff. And if you need a quick fix, the pre-made tofu dishes are excellent as well. The thing I like most about his tofu, compared to store bought and imported brands, is that it lacks the slightly sour smell that packaged tofu has, and has less of that 'nigari' taste, which is bitter.

Can be found at the Walnut Creek Farmer's Market (on Locust St.) on Sunday mornings until 1PM. Great soy products, including impressively yummy flavored tofus and tofu salads. Try the spicy tofu strips, they're very good. A little pricey (especially for the asian grocery store basics) but at least they are generous with the sampling.

No longer available at any farmers markets! Still local, still organic, still non-GMO, still haven't gone on the tour. Still a fan but sadly I can't find the medium - the household favorite - anywhere, so even though I still pick up the firm at Whole Foods I've been making my own medium!* *Thanks to Andrea Nguyen's Asian Tofu. It's like magic!

my dear vegetarian friends and those who enjoy soy, hodo's yuba & soy omelette are redefining breakfast for me. The soy omelette that they make out of yuba has got such a great consistency and taste. I chopped it up and stir fried it with some shallots, ramps & mushrooms for a new spin on a tofu scramble and it was pretty awesome. The dr. cut the yuba into strips and used it to make a no-chicken noodle soup with lots of fresh veggies, a great alternative when you feel like a less-carby meal. Yay for Hodo! Yay for local!

The Spicy Yuba Strips are to die for!! They are quite possibly my favorite tofu dish ever. Everyone, you must try them! Hodo, thank you for making yummy tofu and dispelling myths that tofu is bland and disgusting. Thank you also for using gluten-free tamari (soy sauce) for those of us who cannot enjoy gluten. This is a simple change that unfortunately a lot of businesses have not thought of doing yet and I am eternally grateful.

Stopped here at the North Berkeley farmer's market while waiting for Flacos to open up service and feasted on a fabulous array of tofu appetizers! Whomever you were that offered me and my friends sample upon sample, thank you for your enthusiasm! I honestly love to try food so I know what I'm getting, but get a little shy asking sometimes, and I may never have bought the spicy croquettes otherwise. I would say what's good and what's not, but that's a personal taste issue, and since they hand out free samples, why not taste a little of everything? Some things I would like to go back for: Spicy tofu strips, cilantro and tofu salad with black soy bean tofu, fresh soy noodles, smoked soy loaf, and more croquettes of course! I think I'm still on my vegan honeymoon, in love with every vegan friendly business and food vendor on the planet, so don't think too much of this crazy soy-praise-spouting lovebird.

I've been eyeballing this place at local farmer's markets for years now, but their prices always scared me away. I finally caved recently on some tofu puffs that were calling my name and have been happily shelling over my cash for the puffs, yuba, and firm tofu ever since. Their stuff is amazing! I get sad when I don't drag my ass out of bed early enough to get over to Temescal before they run out of tofu puffs. Everything is super fresh and has the best texture and flavor of any 'fu out there, and trust me, I've eaten a lot of tofu over the years. Things are a little pricey, but I think it's worth it (at least while I'm gainfully employed), not just to support a local, organic business, but because their products are totally superior to other stuff out there.

Asking Hodo Soy to cater for my fundraising event was one of the best decisions I've made yet in San Francisco. The staff was so professional, helpful, and attentive. From the first time I called, they asked the right questions to help me figure out what types of dishes were appropriate, how much I would need and how the logistics of my event should be set up. Hodo Soy offered a wide array of options and they used only the freshest ingredients. Hodo Soy's tofu salads tasted incredible, drew many compliments, and were tailored to the theme of our event. Hodo Soy is an awesome operation and I'm excited to have another event soon that they can cater!

The best tofu in the United States. Artanisal and organic! Yuba tofu -- the delicate tofu skin -- also known as the Holy Grail of the tofu kingdom (or tofu crack) -- cannot be made by mechanized process; it's too delicate. It must be made and harvested by hand. Hodo Soy is the largest producer of organic yuba in the country. Took my brother on a Hodo Soy tour when he was visiting a few months ago. The tour is really nothing special. You get to watch a video of the history and philsophy of Hodo Soy, then they open curtains so that you can see the factory through a window, and finally you get to sample some of the fantastic tofu. (You can also purchase a variety of items at the tour's end). But it is not a big deal. It's only offered once per month, on a Wednesday. Check the website. Hodo Soy products can be found in many farmers' markets throughout the Bay Area. Whole Foods (at least many of them) also carry a sampling of Hodo's products. And, with increasing frequency, you can see Hodo Soy's products on local menus. Highly recommended.

Thank you Hodo Soy Beanery. I just had the most phenomenal dinner using your products. I made a corn soup with strips of yuba and cubes of tofu in it. Yum. Then I made a shiitake mushroom, shallots, tofu and five spice combo and wrapped the yuba around it. Panfried until crispy. My mouth is so happy! I've also used their tofu for breakfast scramble. Tasty! I also bought the tofu jerky. My favorite is the cilantro soy bean dish with the black soy bean tofu.

Wanna do something kinda fun, interesting, and educational? .. . Yeah, I didn't think you would. But, anyway, if you want to learn how tofu is made, head down to HODO and check out their fun and easy tour. We were greeted by Caroline, a super happy girl with a super bubbly personality. She is a doll. Without giving all the details away, we learned everything you would want to know about how tofu is made and some of the many uses for tofu. Learn about soy milk, and yuba, which was totally new to me. Ummm, yuba is like eating skin (in my opinion). This tour is rather quick, and very easy to get through. When finished, there is a table of samples for everyone to try. I could not believe how good their "vEGG salad" was (tofu egg salad).

BEST TOFU ever. I ordered the sesame tofu jaunt at the North Berkeley farmer's market. Heck yeah, and it's vegan!

Diablo Foods on Mt Diablo in Lafayette started carrying Hodo about 4 months ago. They only have the superfirm product as I bet the deli manager was a bit dubious that people would pay a premium for tofu. Its truly the best since the original Azumaya tofu owners sold out about 7 or 8 years ago. The countergal told me sales were slowly picking up as people were becoming aware of the Hodo product. I am going to talk to manager and ask him/her to add yuba and then the puffs, in that order because as you fans know, the yuba from Hodo is out of this world and driving in to Berkeley to go get it was trying.

Fantastic tofu products!! First had their tofu noodles in a dish at Slanted Door. Delicious!!

I was meeting a friend for a quick bite and a drink, and she was running late. Therefore, I strolled down the marketplace in the Ferry Building, admiring all the kiosks. I was greeted by a wonderful Dierdre at the Ferry Building stand, who asked me if I wanted to try some of their Yuba mixed with chili oil. I was expecting her to spoon out a small portion (sample size as one expects when offered a sample) from one of the tubs that sits on the colorful spread. The Yuba is delicious- and I would gladly pay for more. I'd highly recommend checking them out. Thanks Dierdre!

The best soy ever! Some of my favorites are tofu blocks, soy milk, tofu puffs, and sesame tofu strips(made with yuba.) You can really taste the difference when you compare their tofu blocks to store-bought tofu. They absorb flavors readily and cook up to a pleasant texture. They are particularly great since my husband is picky about texture and he can always tell when tofu is old. Hodo Soy makes tofu fresh daily! Another bonus is that you can bring your own food storage containers for the tofu and save on packaging waste. The soy milk has no added sweeteners or flavors, yet it is the creamiest and tastiest soy milk I've ever had. Even my 2-year-old will drink it happily. The tofu puffs are meant to soak up flavors, but they are great on their own and my daughter and I eat them plain as snacks. The sesame tofu strips are downright delicious and they are a great way to try yuba if you have never had it fresh before. There are two downsides: 1.) It's pricey. But given all the savings you get from shopping locally at the farmer's market for your other produce needs, it's worth the splurge. 2.) They are no longer at the Walnut Creek Farmer's Market, so if you live in Walnut Creek or the Lamorinda area, the next closest location is in Montclair. However, they do offer a few of their prepared selections like Cilantro Tofu Salad and Kung Pao Tofu Salad at Diablo Foods.

I purchase my tofu from the Berkeley farmers market on Tues/Thurs. The times that I have frequented their stands, the service has always been quite non chalant and rude. The women working behind the stands never say thank you/smile. They don't seem to care. I have to literally beg for a sample. I've purchased their products and the taste/flavors are great but I will take my money elsewhere because I really can't stand the bad attitude I get each time I come here.

This review is for the Tues &Thurs farmer markets in Berkeley. Okay, I really don't want to play the race card but when I hear workers always saying "Thank you" to everyone but Asian customers, I can't help thinking maybe they are prejudice. They never smile, never tell me about their products, never offer me a sample and never say "Thank you." Oh, BUT BUT BUT -- the non-Asian customers before me and after me received exemplary customer service! My last and final experience with them this week pretty much confirmed my suspicion. I was next in line to buy their precious tofu. Behind me was a nice white lady. When it was MY turn, the worker turned to the white lady and said: Did YOU come first? Are YOU BLIND? Do you NOT SEE the line? It's just REALLY REALLY rude to turn to someone else AND accuse me of CUTTING. Say bye to my $. Your tofu ain't THAT GOOD.

my favorite thing at the ferry building saturday market is the Hodo Soy Beanery (they are also there on tuesdays). it's to the left if you are facing the front of the ferry building. it's typically one of the last booths on the far left. they have an amazing array of soy products. they have the best, fresh tofu i have bought in the city and of course they make their own soy milk. in addition, they have fried tofu puffs that you can take home and add to your homemade dishes and also plenty of other fun tofu salads and other fake meats made from soy, like tofu meatballs. they also make soy noodles for all of you out there who can't or don't want to eat wheat. note: Hodo also has booths at the berkeley farmer's market, the marin civic center farmer's market, and the palo alto farmer's market. check out their website for specifics.

Hodo Soy Beanery makes tofu products and sells them at Bay Area farmers' markets (All Berkeley markets, Ferry Plaza, Temescal, others...). Fresh organic tofu is available in soft, firm, and custard forms. If you haven't tried well made fresh tofu you're in for a treat. I cubed and marinated two blocks of firm tofu and used it in a vegetable stir fry last night and it was delicious. I've got two more blocks marinating that will go on the grill tomorrow night. Hodo also makes a variety of salads from their tofu that are great quick lunches. For dessert they sell a chocolate mousse made with the tofu custard that manages to be wholesome and evil at the same time.

Does the thought of hot soy milk make your mouth water? This place doesn't have it...It took awhile for me to get over the disappointment of not finding a place that serves hot , fresh unsweetened soy milk (I thought Hodo would have it - Hodo, if you're reading this, could you please provide us with hot unsweetened soy milk?). Once I sampled the goods (tofu cilantro salad, tofu jerky, yuba, etc.), I overcame my disappointment. I took the soy milk home and heated it - and it was five star worthy delicious. The soy milk has deep, rich soy "beany" flavor. Their custard has that same real soy flavor. The tofu has an uneven texture that I liked - it had a homemade quality. Add hot unsweetened soy milk and Hodo should get a sixth star.

HoDo Soy is great but I just got there v-egg-an tofu Salad and was awful I love this salad but I have no idea what they have done to this lovely salad it has no taste now its awful. It was so good before but this was a great disappointment for me. Sorry to say. Love there product but what every the change is they did doesn't work for me. Waste of my money but I putting it down sink as fast as I can.

this is the way soy should be treated. i have been a fan of their ferry building farmer's market stand for years and for some reason one day went on their website and realized they have a factory tour! it was so adorable. we got to sample almost a dozen amazing tofu products and watched a short video of the history of the company, starring the owner. then they pulled back the curtain of the room we were sitting in so we could see the factory at work...including the owner cutting up some firm tofu! how many places can you see the actual owner working alongside his employees in the factory? watching the yuba being made was totally fascinating but eating it was even better. and the highlight of the tour was drinking fresh soy milk directly from the machine--still piping hot. i found that the whole foods on 24th is carrying a few of their salads, which i would buy a lot more often if the whore foods bulk prices weren't so steep.

I lived in Japan for a long time and ate a lot of tofu which was made every day on every block. It was so delicious that we ate it raw daily. This Hodo Soy Medium Tofu is exactly like the authentic delicious tofu made daily in Japan. We now order 8 blocks of medium tofu every week, and pick it up where they make it on Adeline St in Oakland. Not a day goes by in which we don't savor it. It is not expensive at $2 for a large block of tofu. It is the most delicious flavor you have ever experienced in tofu. Nothing else in the US compares to it. Hana Matt

OMG we finally tried some of their tofu! We sampled the spicy tofu strips and the tofu jerky at the berkeley farms market, they were both amazing! I didn't know tofu could have that shredded meat texture. We bought some tofu puffs and used them in a stir fry, they were AMAZING! They were fluffy and soaked up all our broth to create moist chewy morsels of tofu! I know where I am buying my tofu for stir fry from now on! The people at the market were extremely friendly and knowledgeable and encouraged us to try different products and cooking techniques. I will definitely be back every Thursday to pick up some tofu! I really really want to try the pre-made tofu options as well.

i LOOOOVE hodo soy beanery. i stop by the claremont DMV farmers market every sunday to grab some of their savory concotions. my current favorites are the "omelete" which seems to be layered tofu skin that appears to be pan-fried, as well as these soy noodle things with woodears, carrots and some kind of delicious dressing. this is all i have tried from them, but mind you it is so delicous i cant not order it, therefore eliminating the possiblity of trying something different. each of the pre-made meal type things are $6 a piece. not a bad price for something so fresh, organic and delicious. i cant cook so i love these guys. they also sell plain tofu and a ton of other soy products. if you ever see their sign at the farmers market and are craving some extreme soy action, check them out!

Friend had some of those sesame noodles in the fridge and I was hungry and curious, but it didn't look like something I'd buy. Opened it up and was disappointment that the product didn't look like the packaging, but no real surprise there. Let me tell you, when I bravely took a bit of those cold noodles still in the pouch---I'd plan to heat them up, but hunger---holy noodles in a bag! Incredibly good. I ate the pack in less than 24 hours. I believe I could eat it every day. The texture is addicting, the rich taste is divine, and it's loaded with fiber, protein and iron (I'm sounding like a damn commercial!) I could put that shit in a sandwich! Prefer them cold, but so good heated up too. Called me "Hooked."
