Koreatown’s Famous 24 Hour Nak Won Restaurant Has Closed After 34 Years - Eater LA

"Nak Won developed a bit of a rivalry when next door restaurant Hodori opened in 1991 with the same 24 hour format, with both places serving a wide menu of Korean food classics. At the moment, it seems Hodori is still operating next door." - Matthew Kang

IT WAS REALLY GOOD!! Def recommend to trying it out!! It was a really relaxing and chill there, food was amazing and portion sizes were really bigger than we thought they were gonna be so def don’t order too much unless you planning on having them for leftovers the next day lol. But def would be coming back next year when I’m there the AX Con again!! 💗💗

Google
The food was amazing! The staff was always checking on us and making sure we were doing good.

Google
Very rude servers, specially the guy on the counter. When I asked him about price breakdown he got really upset and very rude. They do not answer the phone. I called to make my order ahead of time and no answer, when I got to the restaurant it was not busy at all.

Google
I had a solo lunch and really enjoyed the pork belly. The portions were massive so great for sharing. I accidentally left my wallet at the table, and some of the staff literally waved me down after I had crossed the street. I was super appreciative that they tried to reach me before I was out of the area. I will definitely come again to this casual spot if I ever find myself back in this corner of KTown.

Google
Our go-to place when hungry for Korean food. Food is tasty 😋 and portions are oversized. I always have leftovers to go.

Google
This place used to be one of our favorites. I haven't been there in a while because their prices have dramatically increased since the pandemic, but decided to surprise my girl today for lunch. I've seen places fall off but this one has gone off a cliff. I order the medium Galbi plate which looks like it's just two ribs cut into 8 pieces and the shrimp fried rice which had the smallest shrimp I've ever seen. The worst part is I was charged $50 even. I didn't think anything of it at the time but after seeing the terrible food when I got home. I went online to see the prices and the total after tax was $45 for an online order. This place once had us going here over the all you can eat places because of the quality of food but now it's a joke. Its unfortunate but I'll never go back after this experience.

Google
The place is awesome as there would be almost one-can-name Korean Food at the town. It opens 24 hours a day and offers various kinds of choices of food. There is not a long waiting lane like the popular restaurants but the food quality is great. We ordered the Soon Tofu as a soft tofu stew with much seafood and the soup base is really tasty, very well with the rice. The Pork Katzu is deeply fried as crispy and tender. We waited about 15 minutes for the Bulgogi Bibimbap but it was worth it! They gave much material with the rice and are also well with the soup. We had a great dining experience here on Saturday night! Since it is a little bit distance away from the core of Korea Town, it's easy to find parking at the plaza even just in front of the restaurant!

Google
I used to come here quite often over 10 years ago. I went back recently and somehow everything tasted BETTER than what I remember. Why did I not come back sooner? The price isn't cheap but portions are generous.

Yelp
First timer here! Me and two friends of mine were looking for a Korean restaurant that was opened at 4 in the morning after spending the night partying. We were quite famished, obviously, and a good friend of mine recommended this place. I enjoyed the food very much! The soup dumplings and shrimp fried rice were delectable. Great spot to satisfy your cravings lf you find yourself out and about late, late night.

Yelp
Very bad service & yet, the rude female Korean server was demanding for tips after me & my friend were eating (The bill was $77).., how audacity she was WTF Bitch, not even a "Hi how are u or how are u doing or how is the food"... this incident happened to me on 9/26/2024 (Thu) between 12:45-1:15pm... total disappointment & disgusting attitude... rude waitress demanding for a tip over my $77/- F**K this place, rude as hell u want tips or a a good tips, u gotta earn it not demand for it, B**** ??!!!

Yelp
Love it love it love it. theres nothing better at 6am than a bibimbap with meat and rice. If youre headed from downtown & points south to the koreatown area (or points west) you will like pass this gem on vermont and olympic. It's open 24\7 and there are all kpeople eating there and getting takeout. its not the cheapest but at 5am ones choices are limited.
google avatar

Cris B.

Yelp
I liked the food that was comforting to have after a new years celebration . I just wish we could of had some drinks however it's late so it's all good. The service takes care of you and the environment is chill the bathroom could have some cleanliness but so far so good.
google avatar

Raymond C.

Yelp
They put all bones at the buttom of my large Galbi! What a rip off. They charge $44 for this one
google avatar

Alysa C.

Yelp
I like that this place is open 24 hours and that they have quite an extensive menu. However, I was quite disappointed with their soondoobu as I felt it was very oily and a little lacking in flavor. I'd recommend this place to try their other dishes, which I'd say are all fairly priced.

Yelp
If you are aching for Korean cuisine like Galvi, Bibinbap, and other authentic mouth-watering cuisine at any time, 24 hours a day, drop by Vermont and Olympic Boulevard and go to Hodori Restaurant. They offer a variety of authentic Korean BBQ dishes that are cooked to make you salivate at the drop of the table, whenever you're ready to dine, etc. We all know their Galbi but at Hodori, the meat is super soft and well marinated, so it not only melts in your mouth but activates all your taste sensors in your tongue that induces you to salivate, hahahaha. If you order their Tofu soup and combines with their Bibimbap, I'm sure you'll be done for the night or day. Hodori is open for 24 hours to accommodate students from nearby USC and UCLA so if you're one of them, enjoy the parade of culinary awesomeness. Of course, just like any other Korean restaurants, they offer Banchan or pickled fruits, vegetables and other sweet treats, to begin your dinner or lunch. The price is above average thou and a little more pricey than other Korean restaurants. One suggestion, I hope the ladies smile a little more than just act like robots, that's, often they only respond when spoken to?

Yelp
Even with the change in ambiance and the prices have gone up...whenever I'm sloshed from a night out, I come here to refuel for the drive back. If you're looking for some late night comfort food and the experience that generally comes with it - this place always hits. Service was fast, and food came out good!

Anthony A.

Yelp
I ordered Kimchi and Pork dish. Usually Hodori is good with the food portion. What I got was ridiculous. Look like what I got was a bottle of Kimchi was dumped on a few meager portions of pork. Like where Waldo. I was saying where the pork I complained all I got was I am sorry. No attempt to remedy the problem. Ridiculous. Never again
google avatar

Maria G.

Yelp
One of the only spots open so ordered some takeout. Shrimp fried rice. It was okay and the shrimps are very small and not what I expected. Pretty disappointed .
google avatar

Nick A.

Yelp
Very disappointed with this restaurant. After dinner, I felt unwell -- the food was clearly not fresh. The service was equally disappointing: I asked for a napkin, and the waitress brought me only one. Furthermore, she started speaking rudely about me with her colleagues in Korean, thinking I wouldn't understand. I lived in Korea for 5 years and speak Korean fluently, so hearing insults directed at me was extremely unpleasant. I absolutely do not recommend this place!

Yelp
* Price: has gone up about 30% as every restaurant in LA. Bulgogi is about $25. Soup is about $17. The portion is still large, though. 3+ star. * Ambiance: casual but clean. 3+ star. * Location: Ktown. Free parking, but maybe it's hard to get parking during rush hours. 3+ star. *Meals: Comfort and favorable korean food. Decent banchan with meals. 4 star. * Service: So so... these ladies have been working here for a long time (same for the last 10 years). Just basic service. Don't expect a warm welcome! 3 star. Since their neighbor's restaurant Nakwon closed, this is our Togo comfort kroean restaurant. They open 24/7 rain or shine. You can definitely count on getting a good meal regardless of holidays and pandemic. We had beef bulgogi for $29.23 and yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) for $17 and left over for the next day in to-go container 50 cent each. Rice and tea are free with meals. For $52 (+ tips), we have 1.5 meals, which is not bad in the current economy.

Yelp
I visited Hodori recently, under new ownership, and got their spicy galbijjim (spicy braised beef). Their new spicy galbijjim is a highlight, with generous portions of tender meat, chewy rice cakes, and lots of melted cheese. The spice level is just right, giving a nice kick without being too much!! Restaurant is clean and spacious making it a plus They also have one of the lunch special, available Monday through Thursday for just $9.99 for some of their stews (dine-in only)!

Yelp
Boombastic experience! This was not my first time dining here but I always love it! Food are delicious! We ordered Tofu, Robbokki and Beef Bulgogi (Apology for the spelling of these dishes if I did it wrong - this is how I remember them). Tip when you order: Look at the pictures on their menu - when it's red in color that means it's spicy! (I think from my POV) and when it's spicy they really mean it! Even if you told them to make it mild - it will still be super spicy but in a good way. Their staff are also the nicest and will listen to your requests. There are parking outside ( a lot ). The price is pretty $$$$ but I think because they are using the best ingredients. Very good Korean dish! I love and will still come back!

Jj R.

Yelp
Food is good but service is poor. I wish I could give this restaurant a zero star. Never again! we've been standing for so long and no one assisted us. No one ever check on us after we got our food, not even refilled our water or asked if we need anything. They were assisting other customers but not us! They just glared when I asked for assistance.

Yelp
I've been coming here for many years. At least 18 years. I have many fond memories here including so many late nights eats after bars clubs etc. I really love having a non-BCD option for Korean food at those hours. It's a casual relaxed vibe but clean and spacious. Service used to be a lot better. I don't mind it a bit no nonsense with a focus on the food. I'm still going to keep coming tbh, but the male server could lighten up on the rude attitude. And we waited a long time when it was fairly empty on a Tuesday around 930pm. But I get it, maybe they were short staffed due to the off hours. Shrug. Onto the food. Bibimbap is standard though maybe a bit less delicious than I'm used to. 2.5/5. If you get the "hot stone" version it's more legit. Sullongtang- good flavor, and surprisingly tender and tasty beef. Bone broth is decent. 4/5 Galbi tang - tasty galbi. I like that they give you scissors to snip it off the bone haha. Soup is tasty though a bit salty for me. 4/5 Decent banchan Prices def are a bit higher than I expected. There's a parking lot that was ideal open on a random weeknight. TLDR; service slipping but I'll still be back. If I have an amazing time next time I may bump my review back up! I want them to thrive:)

M L.

Yelp
Client for many years but already fed up with the bad customer service, will not be coming back lady always with a bad attitude.
google avatar

Mohammad M.

Yelp
The food we had here was pretty mediocre. It would be a 4 in most cities but in a place like Los Angeles with its abundance of great Korean food I was disappointed. Off the few items we had, the japchae was probably the best one. The omurice was extremely disappointing. The veggies tasted a bit frozen and I was really hoping for a cream or sauce of some sort on top. The banchan was decent though. Service was also decent. The restaurant is in a fairly unassuming location and the ambiance was fine. I recommend looking elsewhere for your Korean food fix.

Brina D.

Yelp
not only is this place 24 hours but they have great service. It's definitely one of the best Korean places I've ever eaten at. there was one dish that was too spicy for us and we asked him if we could take it back and they said yes:)
google avatar

Brianna B.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! I loved the yukdaejang and crave it so much! Has friendly staff and good vibes! Definitely come here :)

Gina L.

Yelp
They have the best katsu in ktown. I've been to literally every katsu place even the ones opened lately. They were good but I didn't expect that I will find the best one from Hodole. The portion is almost for two. I went there around 2pm in weekday. Two mid aged waitresses were so attentive and nice. Very reasonable price, generous portion, and good quality.
google avatar

Ramiro F.

Yelp
Bad service !!! I've never been to a restaurant where they treat you so badly! The waitresses don't have any costumer service! Food it's not bad
google avatar

Yelp
It looked like a night with a full moon so mom decided we should go out for Pho soup. But it was closed, so we randomly walked into Hodori. We ordered hot teas, and the glass noodle plate for two people. But when the main entree arrived, it was joined by four additional side plates of Kim chi, rice, mashed potatoes, and last random dish I didn't try. They were all very delicious and fun to mix and match. So it was never boring to the palate. Parking is easy, drive up and park: ta-da. The restaurant service was efficient but not wholly amicable. They also forgot mom's soda and still charged her. It was later corrected. Ambiance... ugh I wouldn't say there was anything to write home about and leave it at that. We paid in cash and out the door we went. It's a rough part of town. But if you're on this side of LA and lost and hungry: this is not a shabby spot. God knows I wouldn't adventure around there at midnight.
google avatar

Paulo blanco ..

Yelp
Service was okay the only thing is the special are on the weekdays the drinkss where served without ice or any cup anything

Diana C.

Yelp
Horrible service first of all when I got my food 90% of it is onions. The ladies are rude af. One of the laddies was rude to my 4 year old daughter almost pushed her good thing I noticed and I told her not to. I guess she was overwhelmed because the restaurant was full but it's not our fault she can't work under pressure. To top it off she will scream at you for not leaving tip . Why would I tip if I didn't like the service
google avatar

Gwendolyn R.

Yelp
Always loved this place , the bulgogi and japchae is great and the service is fine also . I was driving the long way from sgv to la starving and daydreaming of this place , when I reached Korea town I wasn't sure where it was exactly and i couldn't believe when I rolled up on it , its like that longtime friend who you know is there 24/7 for you if you're hungry and want the late night adventure
google avatar

Diana C.

Yelp
Love their spicy ramen and rice cake stew So yummy and comforting My daughter and i enjoy coming here before NHL games at Crypto. Service is as good as it can get. Fast and rushed but it's understandable Because they're busy and it's a fast paced restaurant. Their servers and busgirls are hustling out here! They're all working hard and they're open 24/7 so you know they're working long hours .. tip them well please :) I know i do!

Yelp
It's been raining outside so was craving some comfort food. Decided to order doordash delivery form Hodori. We ordered 4 orders of the mandu and rice cake soup. It was very tasty and comforting in this cold raining day. Each soup came with their own set of banchan which included radish, kimchi, bean sprouts and potato salad (included apple). I especially liked the kimchi and the potato salad...the apple made it very refreshing. Oh an they also gave us reusable utensils which was a plus. Since we ordered delivery can't review on the service or parking. But the food was packed nicely and they included utensils. Will order again when craving mandu rice cake soup.

Sue K.

Yelp
This place being in the heart of K-town for a long long time, I was really hoping for some genuine Korean food, but we had the worst K food in the entire states of California and Nevada. Everything we ordered had these big, sweet, dry chunks of beef. At first I didn't know... but more I tried, I realized it had to be leftover bulgogi. Dumpling soup usually has braised beef. I've never had kimchi fried rice with giant beef pieces; it's usually made with finely chopped pork or ham. Even the omelet rice had the same beef in it. I'm pretty certain that they're repurposing leftover bulgogi in a lot of their meals. I felt super embarrassed for bringing my guests over there.
google avatar

Alice H.

Yelp
I love that this place is open 24/7! I'm tempted to stop by at 1am for a nice meal. The lady who served us food was very sweet. It wasn't crowded when we went in at around 10am. I had the pork cutlet which was delicious. The side dishes they give you and great as well. It was a cheap meal but filling! Lots of seating inside and there's free parking.
google avatar

Valentin S.

Yelp
My friend recommended going here after we been out all night. Came in at 3, ordered, and got our food out quickly. The beef soup was a lifesaver and the galbi and cutlet were great. There was quite a few people there even at that hour, too, so you know it lives up to the hype.
google avatar

Sangyoon L.

Yelp
Too god damn expensive and the food is either too sweet or salty and I think I will go some where else
google avatar

Roberta L.

Yelp
Review for dordash lunch! Each order comes with a small batch of banchan which was super yummy! I ordered the rice cake dumpling soup which had very good amount of dumplings and rice cake. All I can say is that it was warm and yummy to eat on a cold rainy day....

Andres B.

Yelp
I was picking at the food like a bird. The food was expensive and the proportions were not equal to the price
google avatar

Jerome A.

Yelp
Very delicious Korean food and best thing it's open 24hrs! Soup is good needs some salting but you can easily add to it. Chicken soup with ginger is mellow But delicious a perfect on a cold day.
google avatar

Melissa Z.

Yelp
Spicy beef soup, no flavor, no seasoning at all. Never had a soup with no flavor before. Short ribs were delicious, rice was just too sticky too much water, maybe idk. 1st time going, maybe give it a 2nd chance. Idk ‍
google avatar

Mj J.

Yelp
this place has gone downhill. whatever you order, if there is a picture of it, expect half of the serving and even the way they prepare them now is nothing close to how they were before. this is what's left of our bulgogi order.. meat was like a quarter of what shows in the pictures and guess what, they gave us cabbages lol
google avatar

Max A.

Yelp
I stopped by after long day at work and I was so tired.. and its little passed 9pm. I don't wanted to make dinner when I get back home. This place Open late and fast! I would come back for sure. Oh food is delicious too!
google avatar

Milena H.

Yelp
The ambience was whatever. They had random top 40 remixes playing. There are some flatscreens on one side. Makes sense for a 24 hour place. For vegetarians, they have 2 main dishes: bibimbap and japchae. I got the japchae and was pleasantly surprised by the large portion size. It felt like 2 meals. The quality was ok. Nothing special. It was nice that they also served the usual appetizer dishes with white rice. The service however is a bit rude. I was in the middle of eating and the server dropped off the check even though there was no line and there were plenty of tables open. I was surprised but didn't take it personally since it seems to be the culture here. Next, I needed to get going and no one was coming by so I walked up to the front to settle the bill. The lady just printed out the check receipt and put the paper in front of me and went back to looking at whatever she was looking at. No words came from her mouth. I would at least expect a "thank you!" and place a pen on top of the receipt but neither of those things happened. I saw the pen was nearby so I grabbed it but the gestures were rude. Just keep your expectations super low in terms of service and you'll be good.

June Seok L.

Yelp
I got the new Spicy Galbi Jim with Don Ka Su. spicy Galbi Jim was so delicious. Spicy but not too spicy and the cheese stretches so much. Inside is spacious for a K town restaurant. The servers asked how the foods taste and replaced water bottles before asking.
google avatar

Jordan G.

Yelp
Hodori Koreatown, Los Angeles. Food was hot, good, and portions were decent. Customer service was average, banchan was average. Hodori doesn't make any food exceptionally well. I have had better, and I have had worse. Hodori appeals to foodies that want the basic chicken, fish, beef, pork, soup, grilled, etc preparation. Hodori is a solid 3.5 star experience, they earned the bump to 4 stars because the staff give you your space, and the restaurant was pretty clean overall. 4 star, open 24/7 hours.

Kailin L.

Yelp
There are plenty of seats. The Korean male waiter just left us hanging , and he didn't even want to seat us. when we asked why can't we be seated, he said even if you are sitting you can't order. The kitchen is busy and you need to wait for 40min for your food. So you are telling me , half of your seats are empty and you don't want to serve customers. Lmao. Message received

Justin C.

Yelp
Food and service was good. Simple and no frills. Portions are great and quality of food is good as well. This place has been here for a long time and it's delicious food. Free parking!!
google avatar

Rin K.

Yelp
My friend and I came on a fairly empty night, and had to take our food to go immediately after being served. I ordered cold noodles and were not given scissors which makes it impossible to eat, so I patiently was watching the male waiter to catch him when he was not serving others or too busy. I raised my hand as he was passing by, he looked me in the eye, and ignored me. We just took it to go and left, which defeats the whole point of coming out to eat. The meat tasted off, and the broth or the meat of the manduguk we also ordered had a stench. Reading some of the reviews it seems like other people don't have the best experiences either.
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
The hot stone Bulgogi bibimbap used to have a whole lot more meat in it back in the day now it's just half rice. This place has changed a lot, definitely not the same as before.
google avatar

Generous Y.

Yelp
Points for 24 hours and large portions. Price is intimidating at first but portions aren't the worst, though I think some of the more expensive items (i.e. the meats) aren't worth. Taste is pretty average too so nothing special. #7 Galbi Pork Hotpot - a bibimbap style dish that's hot the entire time! the stone pot is scorching and continues to heat up the food so it'll take some time to eat. Rice is crispy and charred on the bottom, adding an interesting layer of texture. #30 Kimchi Fried Rice - a solid entree but it is fairly average as far as kimchi fried rice goes. Super large portion for the price though. This is probably one of the higher value items here and with a load of carbs for your late night festivities whatever that may be. #34 Kunmandoo Fried Pork Dumplings - Korean dumplings with bits of glass noodle inside. They're deep fried and have an interesting texture. Also not really pan fried at the bottom which I'm used to. I'd skip on this in the future, wasn't a fan of the taste or value but it wasn't necessarily bad.

Sarah R.

Yelp
This place is my comfort. Service is meh but the food is always good. Open late night too

Perla M.

Yelp
Love the customer Service !!! And the food phenomenal delicious very clean and organized highly recommended!!! Definitely coming back!!

Yelp
A hole in the wall. Recommended by a friend. It's okay. Nothing special. I don't think I want to go back.
