Hoe Kee Chicken Rice 和记鸡饭

(February 2025) We were supposed to try a different shop but it was closed the 2 times we tried to visit. On our 2nd try which was supposed to be for breakfast, we came across Hoe Kee Chicken Rice shop as it's only a few steps away from the entrance of Jonker Street / Walk (near San Shu Gong shop). This was my first and only chicken rice ball experience so far and it did not disappoint! The chicken is very tender and juicy, while the rice balls were very flavorful. I even enjoyed the rice balls by itself, which I did not expect. Since I enjoyed the meal, we came back the next day 😅 Looking forward to our next visit next time we're in Melaka.

We arrived around 11am on Sunday. Staff were polite. Food were good specially their asam pedas ikan. We ordered 1 whole chicken for 4 adults and we couldn’t finish so we take away. We had it again in the hotel around 6:30 and the chicken still good n didn’t turn bad. Which is amazing. Only thing I didn’t like was the chili sauce for the chicken taste a bit bitter. But overall good.

Hoo Kee offers traditional style of Hainanese chicken rice. Their steamed chicken was tender and delicious. They had normal chicken rice or chicken rice ball. Portion was adequate. Pricing was standard. The dining place was clean and comfortable. They had numerous seats available. Payment could be made by cash.

Must eat chicken rice balls whenever we are in Melaka. Tried this store, the rice ball/chilli/black sauce combi is nice. Chicken portions were good. Tastewise, something seems to be missing, perhaps a softer texture.

Whenever to Melaka not to be missed out is their famous Chicken Rice Ball, Hoe Kee definitely one of the best choice, steamed chicken is good and their asam fish is really tasty as well, plus their cabbage, wholesome meal, try to come early as lunch crowd will pack up the place, arrived here ard 1130am managed to get table for 3, quick service as well👍🏼 Price reasonable gud as well, asam fish only 30RM, fresh n taste is delish!

Chicken is tender. Chili is a bit watery for my taste. Assam fish is abit too sour for me though. It’s better tasting than the other ‘Famous’ shops around Jonker. Service is fast and price is reasonable.

The interior is simple yet clean, a welcoming and cozy atmosphere. The staff were friendly and quick to take my order, which is always a plus. I started with half a chicken and six rice balls, but the portions turned out smaller than expected, so I ended up ordering another six rice balls.

Chicken abit too tough and hard to Chew other then everything is good. Asam fish is very nice if u like sour.
