The Jersey Shore’s Top Restaurants | Eater NY

"This is the original location — and where all the product is made — of the now-quartet ice cream shop that started as a Carvel. DayGlo mint chocolate chip and Cookie Monster (bright blue vanilla ice cream with cookie dough pieces and Oreos) reign supreme here, where since 1976 there has been a crowd clamoring for ice cream during the summer months." - Stefanie Tuder

Google
We were visiting on the Jersey Shore and friends suggested we visit Hoffman’s Ice Cream shop in Point Pleasant. I had read that once upon a time it had been one of the original Carvel stores but many years ago the owners decided to give up that franchise and focus on making their own ice cream. We were impressed with their flavors as well as their reasonable prices, especially for ice cream cakes! We purchased 2 pints: coffee Oreo and chocolate chip and both were delicious!

Sebastian Ortega

Google
Excellent location, staff, and selection! Their interior is very welcoming and the staff is super kind. There were a lot of flavors to choose from as well as sundaes and milkshakes, but I opted for hard ice cream. I had to get my favorite flavor, coffee oreo, and it did not disappoint. Will definitely go back here before the summer ends!

Google
We love the ice cream so naturally when we needed a cake for our son’s graduation, we came to Hoffmans! We ordered a 1/2 sheet cake & my son customized it with strawberry & chocolate ice cream and added fudge with the crunchies. It was amazing! They have the best strawberry ice cream! It looked gorgeous and they nailed the logo for the college he’ll be going to in the fall!

Olga Egorova

Google
Great ice cream! Tried salt caramel latte and lavender honey, both were delicious!

Danira Ortiz

Google
Excellence location close to the beach. Friendly staff. great selections. Clean atmosphere. Spacious inside and lovely outside area where to enjoy the ice cream as well.

Google
with an expansive amount of flavors, this place really stands out. great quality at a good price, I tried the fudge mint & espresso which was amazing. they were super kind to us as well

Danielle Tallarida

Google
Long time fan but left disappointed tonight. Cherry vanilla tasted like plain vanilla ice cream, found 2 small pieces of cherry in my large cup. $20 for 2 ice creams, I expected much better.

Google
Classic ice cream spot in Point been coming here since I was a kid it's the best of the best. Some parking in the lot but be prepared to park on a side street and walk over in the summer. Grab a number to order (thank God they went with this the old line system was a nightmare). Tons of flavors and toppings I'm partial to the s'mores and brownie ala mode, but they have something for everyone. Staff is super friendly definitely my go-to ice cream spot in the area

Yelp
Killer ice cream! I've tried a few of their locations and the ice cream was delicious as usual. Usually a line but that just means it good!!
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
I've been coming here for 20+ years and it's always been great! There mint chip ice cream is fantastic and In the later months the pumpkin ice cream is amazing, staff is always very friendly, seems like the have shrunk the portions a bit and raised the prices a bit,

Patty T.

Yelp
Great ice cream. Many flavors. Staff could smile more. I will be very honest this is the second time I've gone in to Hoffman's and it smells horrific. It looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a month and it smells like it. I never remember it being like this before. I've been coming here for many many years. Others were commenting out on the sidewalk as we ate our ice cream. If your staff can't handle it then you need to hire a professional cleaner every night. Unacceptable.

Yelp
If you want a no frills "home made" ice cream parlor this is your place! This is the best home made ice cream down the shore. However is lacks any atmosphere. Especially what you would want from a small beach town. Expect large scoops, a nice variety of classic flavors. Reasonable prices, but always very busy. Take a ticket when you walk in and you will be served when your number is called. Be aware the parking lot will be busy after dinner hours!

Yelp
In 9 days they still have not gotten any salty shipwreck. Im literally shaking and crying. Why don't you have it PLEASE GET IT

Chris A.

Yelp
another really delicious homemade ice cream spot. I got the chocolate explosion flavor, definitely will be back for other flavors

Yelp
One of The Best Ice Cream Shops according to NJ.com. Just a 10 minute walk from the train, it's off the beaten path and NOT near the raucous beach so that right there is a plus for me. The shop is large but only houses one table. Lots of flavors to choose from. Even vegan selections and a variety of soft serve. I got a small (which was huge to me) Salty Shipwreck in a waffle cone. It was really good. I especially liked the bits of chocolate covered waffle cone in it. My scooper was sweet, no pun intended. The place was clean except for the bathroom. And the price was moderate... for the shore, I guess it's decent.

Yelp
Fun spot to stop. Simple but clean establishment. Plenty of friendly helpful counter staff. There are three cases of ice cream flavors. One case has some sugar free and vegan options which is a nice twist. Our flavors today were amazing and we're looking forward to trying some new ones again this week while on vacation.
google avatar

Yelp
We love Hoffmanns! Wonderful ice cream, friendly staff and great location. We're down the shore every summer and this is a must stop. We ride our bikes, park and enjoy their yummy ice cream! Best in town.

Yelp
Stopped in late November for an ice cream fix. A young man helped us out and was great, offering samples and it helped my indecisive wife choose :) My wife got the "small" which was huge! 2 scoops, 1 of jersey monkey (her all time fave) and 1 of smores. It was a great serving for $5. I went with a milkshake and it was a good one. I hadn't had one in a bit and this hit the spot. It did take about 3 mins to make, there appeared to be some trouble with the mixer but we were in no rush. We had not been to Hoffman's since they closed their locations a bit closer to home but it is still delicious!
google avatar

Alexa C.

Yelp
Hoffman's has been a favorite for literally a lifetime when vacationing at the Jersey shore in the summer. When I found myself visiting nearby Belmar for a family obligation in November, I knew that Hoffman's would be sure to please! I enjoyed a scoop of vegan black raspberry chip, although the texture was a little different, as well as pumpkin. YUM!!!

Yelp
The tagalong hard ice cream was great! I'm usually not a hard ice cream person and I loved this hard ice cream. The soft chocolate and vanilla is little to be desired :/ It wasn't thick, creamy, or indulgent like I really wanted. The flavor was actually kind of hollow and watery. There are plenty of better places around town for soft serve. The employers are really nice, and the place is clean!

Yelp
I've been to their location in spring lake years ago, and after having breakfast in the area, we noticed they had a location in point pleasant as well. As it was barely noon, there was no wait and service was accommodating and friendly. The man serving us was quite understanding when we had a miscommunication about the cones and the number of scoops and quickly remedied it. Everyone loved the ice cream--I got the vegan cookie and mint, which I didn't love. Compared to other vegan ice creams, it was a little icier and not as creamy. But we bought ice cream saucers to take home, which are circular ice cream sandwiches and I can't wait to try them!
google avatar

Dipali G.

Yelp
I loved everything about this ice cream place and would recommend anytime you are visiting Point Pleasant! Firstly, they have so many flavors to choose from - I highly recommend the espresso mocha crunch- which has actual delicious coffee crunches in it! My favorite was the toasted coconut, probably one of the best coconut ice creams I had! I got the small- which was essentially a large by any other standards! There is a huge line but it goes by so quickly and the service is incredible!
google avatar

Jenna C.

Yelp
To all locations. I highly suggest this shore staple. I have not been to Hoffmans in a few years and I used to go religiously to the spring lake location however this stop is just like the other and sooo good. They do have vegan options now. They also have the kindest staff. And takeout packages. Cakes, ice cream sandwiches, etc., Sooo gooooddd.
google avatar

Cindy F.

Yelp
This business offers delicious homemade ice cream. It is a favorite when visiting Point Pleasant. My family and I will definitely return when we are in town. The business is very cute, and the service is wonderful. It's refreshing to visit an old fashioned business.
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
THE BEST ICE CREAM! Hoffman's is my favorite! There's a reason why this place is packed and there's always a line. We love their milkshakes!
google avatar

Carlos C.

Yelp
After a delicious dinner with friends, dessert was on the mind and we stopped here! Great location, with seating, and I grabbed a Coconut Joy milkshake which literally tasted like a Mounds chocolate bar, in a milkshake. Absolutely fantastic!
google avatar

Diane T.

Yelp
Great service, ice cream is delicious but really overpriced. I will always come back but you should make a family package.

Ladyof A.

Yelp
Gorgeous ice cream handmade uses real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. The kids at work here are professional for being so young. And they give you a good portion.

Gabby A.

Yelp
I love this ice cream place! The chocolate chip cookie dough was great and they have so many flavors I really like that they have their own parking lot and there are not too many tables inside but a few places to sit outside. The staff was also very nice and all four or five of them that were working on Sunday were very nice! I just wish I lived closer
google avatar

Farah L.

Yelp
Went on a weekday afternoon for ice cream with my dad. The line was decent and I could only imagine the line on a weekend. The ice cream was pretty good with plenty of flavors to opt for. Always spoilt for choice here (milkshake vs ice cream vs flavors). Staff members were quick and friendly. Seating available indoors and outdoors. Gave a cabin ambiance. The location is good and has its own parking area.
google avatar

Kenneth N.

Yelp
What an absolutely awesome ice cream parlor after a long day at the beach. This is our new go to location when visiting Belmar/SpringLake. The ice cream flavors where plentiful and rich and creamy in texture. The portions where generously stacked and the milk shake had like 4 scoops in it.
google avatar

Natty C.

Yelp
Yummy ice cream. They have a ton of flavors. They even have Dole whip but it was sold out when I went. They have a "kid size" cup. Prices are reasonable.

Ryder M.

Yelp
This place is the best ice cream on the Jersey Shore!!!! The service is great and it's a place I've been getting for years.

Lynn D.

Yelp
Always a great treat! Got my usual weird sundae of coffee ice cream with wet walnuts and burgundy cherries and chocolate sauce!
google avatar

Yelp
Visited Hoffman's in Pt Pleasant on 2/4/23 for their ice cream for breakfast day. Such a cute idea. I saw on their website they offered vegan options; I called and spoke to someone and they were so kind to provide me with every flavor they currently had. I ordered the peanut butter one on the waffle sandwich...SO GOOD! I cannot wait to go back and try their other vegan options. The store is very clean inside, employees are friendly, and very quick service.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Was a little disappointed. None of the flavors had much taste. Got the Cookie Monster and cookie dough flavor , so was expecting some flavoring but it was a very dull taste.
google avatar

Sandy J.

Yelp
Really great homemade ice cream. The blueberry pie flavor is to die for! We also had the vanilla, butter pecan and something that was chocolate with chocolate covered almonds and caramel. The butter pecan didn't have a strong flavor it kind of tasted like vanilla ice cream with pecans in it. But I would definitely return and definitely get that blueberry pie again. They also had candles with the ice cream flavors that smelled so good.
google avatar

Phil H.

Yelp
When we do a weekend getaway to the Jersey Shore and do Point Pleasant a trip to Hoffmans is a must! It's one of those family style ice cream joints that is a nice change over the normal fro-yo and Pinkberry's that are all over. I'm all in for their seasonal flavors like the blueberry pie ice cream with fresh blueberries, and their popular Cookie Monster in a sugar cone. So good, and so are their soft serve flavors. Lines can be long so don't forget to take a number!
google avatar

Bridget B.

Yelp
I finally understand why this tops the list of best ice cream spots in NJ! My boyfriend and I enjoyed the Reese Peanut Buttercup and Salted Carmel Pretzel ice creams. We each got small which absolutely would be a large size anywhere else. The ice cream was super dense and creamy. Even though we came on a summer Saturday night, it still had enough help to make it go by fast. Worth the wait when visiting this shore town.
google avatar

George B.

Yelp
How can you go wrong with ice cream near the beach? Hard, soft, shakes, they have it all. They have a proper COVID setup too. My only minor complaint was that...I've had better cookie monster ice cream elsewhere. It's a big deal for me ok!?! The cookie part was just right but the ice cream itself just did not hit the spot. My wife's shake was great though. All that being said, I would absolutely come back the next time I head to the shore.
google avatar

Katie P.

Yelp
I have been going here since I can remember so I love coming here! I got Salted Caramel & Coffee Oreo Icecream they were 10/10 My best friend got Coffee Oreo & Cookie Monster! I feel like Hoffmans is the official ice cream shop of the jersey shore, this place is Iconic & delish! I wish there was a bathroom & more places to sit, but the service is usually fast/ nice & the ambiance is lively!
google avatar

Jenny Y.

Yelp
I love the base for their s'mores ice cream. Tried other flavors (cookies and cream, strawberry, etc) but wasn't blown away. I think I only like their s'mores flavor but it's good enough for me to come back twice in 1 week and order a quart to go
google avatar

William B.

Yelp
Great ice cream and my server William was awesome! I do wish they had pistachio as an option
google avatar

Marlena K.

Yelp
I think this place is delicious for dairy ice cream. If your vegan or allergic to dairy then you'll probably be underwhelmed by the options. I was really impressed by the huge assortment of flavors they have. I got the dairy free pineapple soft serve and it was delicious but the dairy ice cream that my friend had was incredible. Do not be intimidated by the line. It moves quickly and the staff is very efficient.

Yelp
What happened to Hoffman's? This is my family's go-to ice cream spot each summer and we went for our first visit of the year tonight and had a terrible experience. The line was long (as per usual) but they were serving in such an inefficient manner that it just took forever. There's just no where to stand inside and an employee taking to-go orders kept complaining we were in her way. Our server must have been new because she had to ask other staff members questions about literally everything we ordered. It took forever - the first members of our party were done their ice cream bf all of us had ordered. The floors were super sticky and the place smelled musty/gross. They were out of (at least - these are just things we tried to order): -milk for shakes -many flavors including: Jersey Monkey, black raspberry Their serving sizes are SO much smaller than they used to be. They couldn't put sprinkles in my son's cup bc they "didn't fit?" The trash cans outside were overflowing. The whole experience was a bust. We will just head to Sundaes next time I guess
google avatar

Brian G.

Yelp
The wait here was pretty ridiculous, though the ice cream was very good. I got the Jersey Monkey, and a cookie flavor, and they were both delicious, if a bit overpriced. Seems like it used to be a local place but it has now moved on to catering to tourists in the area who know about it's reputation. I felt bad for the teens working there, seemingly unaccompanied. Despite there being at least 4 or 5 workers, we still waited well over a half an hour. There's comparable ice cream in other places for cheaper and with much less of a wait.
google avatar

Alex V.

Yelp
Easily one of the best ice cream shops in the state. There's a reason they've been in business for decades! Some of my personal favorite flavors here are the Reese's Cup, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Salted Caramel Pretzel and regular ol' Vanilla.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
While visiting the area, a small group of us decided to check out Hoffmans because my family highly recommended it. It was after 9 pm when we walked over to the shop, which was packed. We waited on a long line that snaked through the store, they're in desperate need of stanchion posts. The line moved quickly and we were able to place our order with ease. We ordered four items and patiently waited for our treats on the side of the registers. The prices for the four were fair and the portion sizes were decent, so I was looking forward to digging in. The ice cream was just that, ice cream. I had pretty high expectations for the flavor, but my cherry vanilla tasted comparable to one I would find in a supermarket. My partner was in agreement about their treat, as well. I can't believe the line was so long for mediocre ice cream. It was just okay, it was ice cream on a warm night. I don't think I'd be swinging by if I return to the area.

Clarissa K.

Yelp
Hoffman's was always a favorite when I grew up in NJ. Every visit if I am in the area I stop in. This visit was no exception and lucky me Fresh Peach was in stock. However I remembered it with more peaches but still excellent. I got a cup with whipped cream and cherry. I was going to add wet walnuts but didn't want it to overwhelm my peaches. My sister had a chocolate cone that had Carmel and Nuts. The prices are extremely reasonable and would be another reason for being a regular if I lived here in the Summer. I savored every bite. Wished they would move South to Florida I am sure they would have a big following. The had a help wanted sign on the door and I sent to my niece as we are a family that loves ice cream.
google avatar

Lillian W.

Yelp
It was delicious! Rich and creamy :). The Cookie Monster was vanilla ice cream dyed blue with Oreo pieces and cookie dough. Pretty long lines but def worth the wait. There's a parking lot as well. Great place to go after the boardwalk& beach.

Yelp
A preliminary 4.5 star review of what might be my favorite ice cream find of the past few years. Sad to say I'm late in discovering this place, but with several fishing trips in this vicinity every year, I plan on making up for lost time. We arrived around 4pm on a weekday in January, no other customers so I can't comment on what seems to be their biggest challenge, crowds. Of the 30 or more flavors, several tempted me. But as this was my first time, it had to stay simple. I selected choc choc chip paired with vanilla that contained caramel and choc covered nuts. Both were dense and creamy, with great flavor. The caramel even tasted like caramel, not just an amber colored syrup. The choc had a deep dark flavor, as did the generous chips in it. My companion chose the mint cookie fudge(?), this was very good too. Nice mint flavor with lots of veins of cookies and fudge. The 2 employees on duty seemed happy to be there, maybe partially due to the manageable crowds? The counter and freezer cases seemed very clean, the floors appeared to be worn more from foot traffic than from a lapse of cleaning. I would possibly avoid this place on peak summer days, but only to save myself the long wait others have written about. More likely I'll just try to plan earlier visits and hope for the best.

Shannonine C.

Yelp
This is the place for Great portions of creamy deliciousness!!! At pre-inflation prices!
google avatar

Eugene A.

Yelp
Awesome hand dipped ice cream on a multitude of flavors. Always very friendly service and always a good crowd. Oh portions so save room!
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
I've been going to Hoffman's since I was a kid. It makes the richest, creamiest ice cream I ever had! The texture is wonderful. Some of my favorite flavors are fudge mint cookie, chocolate peanut butter, and pumpkin. The only problem is there are very long lines at this location. I came last Saturday, and I waited 30 minutes in line. I didn't expect the lines were going to be so long in October! They had only 3 people working, and they looked miserable! I think they need to hire more staff so the lines can move faster. I still highly recommend Hoffman's for ice cream! It's the richest, creamiest ice cream ever!
google avatar

Jonathan R.

Yelp
Great ice cream shop recommended to me by friends. We normally have ice cream on the boardwalk when we are in Point Pleasant NJ Hoffmans has a private parking lot, benches outside and a handful of tables inside. Hoffmans has a large variety of ice cream (hard) 2 varieties of soft, you guessed it vanilla and chocolate. Hoffmans has a freezer full of ice cream cakes, ice cream sandwiches, doggie treats and flying saucers. Sundaesband cones are reasonably priced A small cup was more than enough for one with 2 scoops. We will definitely be back.

The Critical J.

Yelp
PROS: This was definitely one of the nicer ice cream places I've been to while vacationing down there. The atmosphere was as expected for an ice cream shop, they had many flavors of hard ice cream and a few for soft serve. The workers were also very friendly and helpful, especially the ice cream girl named Giselle CONS: that place normally takes in a large crowd and there are not too many places to sit. The bathroom is also small and the place is a little dirty. OVERALL: this is a nice place that's better than franchise places like cold stone and DQ. People go for ice cream, and leave with a smile on their face

Stephen c.

Yelp
Ice cream is very good. It tastes very creamy. It's all homemade. There are no places to sit. The floor and the counters need to be kept more cleanly. The floor doesn't look like it has been cleaned in a while. Very sticky.
