"For Philadelphia-inspired hoagies involving a combination of meats and lots of spicy pickled stuff ranging from giardiniera to Mama Lil’s, Hog Island (located inside Petoskey's) is our #1. It’s impossible to go wrong with anything here, whether you’re in the mood for a hero with ham and white american cheese or a vegetable hoagie with olive tapenade and roasted tomato, but our favorite is the namesake Hog Islander. It comes stacked with ham, salami, coppa, mortadella, provolone, and spicy peppers—and to really get into that east coast spirit, tack on a bag of Herr’s chips." - Aimee Rizzo

Learned that this was the origin of the name for Hoagies since the Italian shipyard workers here ate "hoggies" at lunch. 5 stars

First of all, this isn't even an island anymore -- they filled in the channel to make the Philly airport. Second of all, to the degree that people even acknowledge its existence, it's as a center for heavy industry with a view of a particularly unflattering section of the Delaware. On the bright side, though, there's a story that the hoagie was invented here!
