THANK YOU VERY MOCHI

There are only 3 other brick and mortar shops (1 in LA and 2 in OC) that I know of where you can authentic, freshly made Japanese mochi like this in Southern California. I’ve been coming here since the days it was called Hogetsu-Do, and everything is always delicious and fresh here. I also love the unique flavors they have, the coconut mochi in particular is impressive to me. 1000% worth the trip to support this business.

Excellent mochi. Chew and melt in your mouth. We got mango, coconut, peanut butter, and strawberry. Coconut is definitely the best one. Will come back for more.

This will be the most AUTHENTIC mochi you will get here in San Diego. True Japanese mochi. This really is a hidden gem. Super soft and flavorful.

I used to buy mochi from the local asian stores in San Diego until I found out about Thank You Very Mochi location in Chula Vista. Store packaged mochi doesn't come close to homemade mochi which uses natural ingredients, and it tastes so delicious. I've been coming to Thank You Very Mochi on a regular basis ever since. I recommend the Chula Vista location for those looking for traditional/homemade mochi.

the mochi shop is located inside one of the stores in a small strip mall area. maybe unassuming from the outside, but the display of the variety of mochi that this shop offers shines through the display case. there was less variety when I came in during mid afternoon time. while I am one who loves the red and white bean paste mochi offerings, the store also offers a good variety of flavored, fruity, and even cheesecake mochi. the lady helping me out told me that most of the mochi options are vegan except for the butter mochi, cheesecake mochi, and milky mochis. I love that she got excited about me asking about whether the red bean pace was tsubuan (chunky) or koshian (smooth). for reference, it seems that the red bean paste mochis use chunky paste, while the white bean paste mochis are smooth paste. my friend and I and my partner loved the mochi we ate. I used to frequent by Osaka-ya in Sacramento for mochi before moving to San Diego, so I’m very happy that this store is here. I'll definitely come back here for more! (also, I called in previously to ask if they offered sakura mochi for girls day. they do, but I didn't have the time to swing by!)

Amazing! The mochi is the perfect texture and there are many flavors to choose from. My favorite is the strawberry white bean mochi. Prices are reasonable (outside of Asia) at $2.30 to $3.00 each. I only wish they were closer to Point Loma but we'll surely be back!

If I could give more then 5 stars I would! Such nice amazing people! Authentic Mochi and absolutely delicious!! Everything is handmade and you can tell by the delicious flavor and amazing designs! Don't think twice please go and try! I will be back a lot with my family!!

Very homey feel, small store front in a random plaza. It's a bit out of the way for me but i'd still make the drive. Usually the same worker at the front and she's been friendly each time. There's lots of parking in the plaza and when you enter you have a full view of the options. Very quick and easy to find what you want with no fuss. Ha: This is like my 3rd time visiting and it always hits when I'm craving some mochi. Very similar to the ones I had in japan. Texture was on point. I especially like the fruit mochis and white bean paste ones. This visit, I tried the cheesecake mochi for the first time and tbh it was just alright. Definitely get the more authentic ones :p Ja: the mochis had bits insides that I enjoyed. I liked the fruit flavored mochis the most, it had a dried apricot inside and overall the mochis had a very good chew texture.

A hidden gem! Wide variety of mochi at a very accessible price. I got the daifuku, coconut, green tea, mango. So delicious, soft, and not too sweet! Staff is very kind and helpful. This is a small shop/order to go. Happy to have discovered this spot. Will definitely be back soon to try other flavors. They take card and parking in the lot is available.

Mochi is soft and fresh tasting. I really enjoy coming here to get our mochi fix. I've tried plenty of their mochi but our favorite has to be the one with an oreo inside. The next favorite would be the strawberry. You can either have white bean or black with the strawberry and they do put a whole strawberry inside the mochi. Service is always polite and welcoming. Prices are decent. Come here to get fresh and delicious mochi without having g to drive to Kearny Mesa area.

Hard to find authentic mochi around here so glad this place is around. Service was fantastic and picked up a variety of pillowy goodness. Very decent pricing and the mochi are a great size. Can't beat the taste of freshly made mochi and can't wait to come back!

Not only are the mochi beautiful, they tasted great... so soft, chewy, and fresh. Customer service was excellent. Looking forward to trying more flavors.

Absolutely delicious and authentic! These mochi taste just like the ones I had in Japan. Unlike those pop-up spots around North Park that charge $6-$8 each, these are only $2-$3 ish affordable and incredibly tasty! Check them out!

Wow. Incredible mochi. Truly the softest, freshest mochi I've had! The strawberry cheesecake filled mochi was delightful. I also got green tea, orange, brownie, condensed milk, and mango. Every piece was soft and delicious with a delicate chew. I highly recommend coming early because the strawberry daifuku was already sold out when I arrived.

Absolutely Love this place! I have never had Mochi this good! I have had Oreo Cheesecake and green tea and they have been Excellent cant wait to go back!

For those that live mochi, this is the perfect place to go! So many flavors. My favorite is the peanut butter, one with red bean and strawberry. They are so good and the person behind the counter is so friendly. You will enjoy every bite. We will definitely be back to try other flavors.

11/10 Mochi! I have tried mochi all over Southern California and Hawaii and Thank You Very Mochi, formerly Hogetsu-do, is the softest and most authentic! I live in Temecula and make the drive a few times a year. I always place an order the day before to guarantee I get the flavors I want; Saschiko was so helpful and knowledgeable. They have traditional flavors, daifuku stuffed with red and white bean and modern flavors like cookies and crème and brownie! They also have many flavors of mochi peanut butter, vanilla, and mango. They are all amazing! If you have a chance to try their suama, it's the best! The details on their mochi are beautiful! It is truly edible art. Worth the drive every time!

We absolutely love this place! The owner was the sweetest woman ever and so hospitable! They have so many unique flavors which are all worth trying. It reminded me so much of a Japanese store as they have Japanese snacks and drinks as well. The mochi was delicious, such a genuine experience. My favorite was the green tea and condensed milk! (They were both the perfect amount of sweet) My family members loved the mango and strawberry cheesecake. So worth the size of the mochi. I will 1000% be coming back.

How did I not know this was here all this time! My daughter had given me a box of assorted mochi. I was so surprised and delighted. It reminded me of soft mochi from Japan. Everything was so good I had to go to the store in person. It's a cute shop down in Chula Vista off of the 5 freeway. So many flavors to choose from. The kind woman at the store was so sweet and friendly. She gets extra points for telling me she thought I was half Japanese when I spoke Japanese to her. Yummy mochi and friendly staff. I definitely will go back when I need my Japan and mochi fix!

Randomly was craving mochi and decided to see if there were any mochi shops in the area, and this popped up. I wasn't sure how legit the mochi was, but decided to stop by anyways since I had the day off. And let me say I was pleasantly surprised! The mochi was fresh, soft, and flavorful. I didn't have a chance to take a photo because I ate them too fast haha but my favorite was the red beach mochi with kinako. Definitely going to recommend this place to my friends if they're craving authentic Japanese mochi! Also want to note, prices seemed very reasonable compared to some mochi pop ups

Thank you very mochi is tucked away in a small strip center and could be missed, but the texture, chewiness, subtle flavors and sweetness hit the mark on all accounts! This was my first time coming here. I went on. Saturday late afternoon, at 4ish, and there weren't very many flavors or pieces left (do yourself a favor and get there when it opens at 10am!!) but I did get French Vanilla, Green Tea, Chocolate, Milky, and a Cookies and Cream. The woman who helped me (she was the only one there at the time) was so incredibly sweet and hospitable and apologetic for the wait. She was delightful. The packaging was simple and she handled these precious pillowy, soft goodness of clouds with care, particularly when she boxed them. I could hardly wait to try them so opened the box when I got in the car. I took a bite of the French Vanilla and OMG. Deliciousness to the extreme. I literally ate the whole piece before I got out of the parking lot. I can't wait to try the other flavors and if they're anything like the French vanilla, then I'm in for a treat. I've had my fair share of Mochi desserts (and have made plenty of rice flour desserts) and this was a home run. They're approx $2.50-$3.00 each. For (8) pieces I paid about $25 which inc gratuity. Please don't go anywhere else but HERE - especially if you're looking for authentic mochi! The prices are very affordable but most importantly, the mochi is FRESH, SOFT, and DELICIOUS! The owner helped and she was so kind and patient (because I basically wanted all of them haha!) This will become my forever place for mochi! Always leave a tip, you have no idea how much time, labor, and love goes into these scrumptious bites.

Not the variety or the traditional mochi that previous owners offered. I spent over $30 and not one piece was edible. The beans inside were all a faded dry color because the beans were dried out. We had to throw them out. It wasnt fresh. I was very disappointed.

You never had a great mochi until you had it here. They live up to their hype and all the mochi I brought to friends and family said it was the best. They ever had. Small shop and cute. Love the many flavor options they have. Hours are limited so check it out before you show up
