Google
One of the best places for legitimate beer not just in Denver, but pretty much anywhere I’ve been around the US. Awesome cask ales, keg beers, and more. Robert is a genuine dude and my family is always excited to see him at the bar.

Chad Lemanski

Google
Cool brewery and tap room. Most of the choices were cask beers, which is really unique. Outside patio was wonderful. A few tvs running sports but pretty quiet on a Saturday night.

Michael Enright

Google
Have visited Hogshead a number of times to try the beers. Very tasty brews. One of the best in town. Really enjoyed the Cook Lane. I could still taste it an hour after drinking one. Yummy!

Liz Petersen

Google
We love this neighborhood brewery. We hosted our daughters baby shower there and it was great. The bartenders were accommodating and David the manager was awesome to work with. Best part, everyone loved the beer. Prost!

Graham Littlehales

Google
Fantastic range of cask ale that would not be amiss in a pub in England! Matched only by the friendliness and knowledge of the guys behind the bar. If you like beer, this is a MUST.

Beer Guy

Google
What a great place, beer was spectacular, staff was friendly and informed. Real local feel as other patrons were also very friendly. I have intentions of opening a brewery specializing in cask ales and the owner/brewer took time out of his day to answer questions about the process. Makes me wish I lived in Denver, I would be here all the time.

Google
For those that only drink keg beer, you're missing out on Robert's skillfully-created, huge selection of saporous, cask-conditioned ales! Dave and crew create a collegial atmosphere that extends to the neighborhood. They have a huge, pet-friendly patio, and if you insist on drinking keg beers, they have those too. They are a little off the beaten path but once you find it, you'll find yourself going back.

Google
Came in on a random Monday during the day when I was in town. Treated like family by the staff. Friendly as all hell, great beer, and probably the best casks this side of the pond. Only regret was not having room for the Corned Beef Chili that was brought in for family meal. Will always come back whenever I'm in Denver.

Yelp
We had a great time at Hogshead Brewery! We met friends there and sat on the patio style benches. There was a live band playing out in the patio and there was such a lively crowd with a great atmosphere. Our drinks (IPAs) were great. We were offered to have them serviced from a keg or from the traditional British way which tastes more fluffier. It was a neat experience. The pizza was very good. Although we didn't get any other food, I did notice burgers being served at a stand in the patio area. The burgers and fries/tots looked great. Overall, we had a great time and received great service!

Yelp
On the Westword's 100 for beer spots, Hogshead is located in The Highlands. Definitely has their regulars already bellied up to the bar before noon. No judgment- we are here before noon too! Hogshead has ample seating for any party size, inside or outside. They have started to add food to their menu as well- grilled cheese coming soon. Not a beer aficionado so went with the Picnic Pilsner from the keg side of the menu. Hogshead prides itself in having cask brews as well. Definitely has a chill vibe and a great neighborhood pub for The Highlands. The service was friendly and most importantly, Hogshead is dog friendly!

Yelp
Fun little brewery that is one of the few in Colorado that offers cask-style beer. I went with the Gilpin Black Gold, a porter with 5.8% ABV. Rich and smooth, it was enjoyable. Service was friendly. Plenty of seating options inside, in an enclosed patio, and outside. They also have cocktail options that support other local businesses (Molly Brown Distillery).
google avatar

Erin W.

Yelp
One of our favorite breweries in Denver! They are dog friendly, have a nice heated patio in the winter and the cask beers are extremely good. The staff is always friendly and they have a sauna deal for a cold plunge into a sauna + a beer - fun lil thrill thing to do in the winter. Plus they have events all the time and we've done a beer pairing dinner with a chef and chili cook off so far!
google avatar

Will S.

Yelp
This place rocks! We come all the time. The beer is amazing and the staff is super friendly and welcoming. The cask beers are great! If you've never had one before I would definitely recommend trying a flight to see which you like best! There's indoor and outdoor seating and in the winter they enclose the patio and have heaters in it!
google avatar

Katie A.

Yelp
If you have ever been curious to try Real Ales the way they have been served in England for generations Hogshead is a must. They have multiple beer engines which dispense the beer via manual pump ,without the use of compressed gas, and are served at cellar temps (not excessively refrigerated).
google avatar

Scott L.

Yelp
I had a fantastic time at the beer garden that surrounds this excellent establishment. Irish Red, cask, was the best beer I have ever had!
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
Great lil brewery with lots of patio rooms and doggos on leash welcome too. Bring your suit to enjoy Red Rock Sauna in the parking lot! Wonderfully kind and educational bar staff.
google avatar

Christopher B.

Yelp
After all these years, I love their ESB. Such a good beer. They've expanded the patios... much more seating outside. I love the new layout. Although they may have food for a while it's now readily advertised in the main room. Love to see this place grow!
google avatar

Linda K.

Yelp
Great beers, great space to enjoy the beer. We sat outside on a beautiful sunny day, indoor space looks comfortable including large enclosed patio. Dog friendly!
google avatar

Jonathon S.

Yelp
It's the best beer in Denver. Gotta be getting the cask ales + stop by on Sundays for a sauna and cold plunge

Yelp
The owners and workers were very disrespectful for turning into their lot to try to turn around due to construction on 29th. We were not parked in their lot, my dad was turning in, to turn around due to 29th being closed so we could get to Leroy's bagels. They were not understanding or nice to us, when my dad was simply trying to turn around. Told me to move back to Seattle when I grew up in North Denver. I would not support this brewery since they have no respect for the community and their neighbors that have been here long before this place existed. They could have approached the situation better, instead they yelled at 70 year old man and his daughter that have lived in this community longer than this brewery has been here. We did not jeopardize the safety of anyone while we were simply pulling in to turn around and I had jumped out to grab bagels while my dad found another place to park. At the end of the day, these dudes were more concerned about a dad and his daughter turning around in their parking lot,. Keep in mind, on a street flooded with construction with no where to go. that they take the time to come running out of their place to yell at us for that for that. when there is definitely better things to worry drinking a beer about !
google avatar

Susan M.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about this brewery. The beer is phenomenal, staff are friendly, and the vibe is just right. I love the new outdoor space. So lucky it's in my neighborhood! Best beer in town!
google avatar

Eddie C.

Yelp
Im not at all familiar with cask beers. That's the specialty here. The bartender was very welcoming and explained the beers and the cask style. So I got the Gilpin Black Gold Porter. It was creamy and delicious. Almost like a nitro style beer but not. I would revisit this place in a return trip to Denver. Great space, great beer.
google avatar

Alden C.

Yelp
Revisiting Hogshead Brewery again and I liked the beer considerably more this last time. The Gilpin Black Gold was a great porter that I had the other night. In fact it might have been one of the best ones I've had in the last few months. Well balanced with a smoky taste made this a very fine porter to have along with our evening meal.
google avatar

Nicole P.

Yelp
I love their ESB on nitro. I am not sure I've even seen esb on nitro anywhere else. It's so smooth and delicious! The establishment is great too, casual and friendly. They have picnic tables inside and out where you can play a game, have good conversation, and enjoy your beer. Since I've moved away from Denver I always request we visit here when I'm in town. I recommend!

William H.

Yelp
Delightful assortment of cask beers in English style. Smallish taproom with affable barkeep. I only had time to try the signature Chin Wag cask ESB - velvety smooth, pleasantly bitter, creamy head.
google avatar

Rosalind C.

Yelp
Good beer, good service, do you really need anything else? The beer is cask or draft so it gives you an option for everyone. I did enjoy the service and everyone was really nice. The beer has good flavor and depending on your preference I'm sure you could find something you enjoy. A good place to visit.
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
Went here on 10/16/21. First time here in 2 years. This place is amazing. Cask Beer! This is amazing beer! Fantastic bartenders and owners. So much flavor! Just a great place to relax. Great atmosphere. I wish I lived closer. You will have to park on the street cause their parking lot has turned into a patio.
google avatar

Laurie M.

Yelp
Had a pretty negative experience. Rude bartender. Totally doing us a favor getting us a drink.

Bethany S.

Yelp
Great beers. Nice ambiance. Service varies significantly depending on the beertender on their mood.

Steve S.

Yelp
My favorite style of beer served in a low key environment, yeah, perhaps not everyone's favorite. If you like the hoppy stuff served with loud music that prevents you from having a conversation you probably won't like this place.
google avatar

B H.

Yelp
WAY TOO LOUD inside between the music and about 20 seats. Beer was okay. A lot of outdoor seating. One benefit (or knock in this case) of having a window of where you brew is that people cab see how dirty or clean it is. It's pretty damn messy and not even close to clean lol I wouldn't go back.

Yelp
Hogshead: a large cask; a measure of capacity for beer, equal to 64 gallons (245.5 liters). After my friend told me about how fantastic Hogshead Brewery was; I knew I had to check it out for myself. So after grabbing brunch - we made our way to Hogshead Brewery for a couple brews and girl talk. Wow! VIBES: They space is small, but awesome! There's a longer community table and a couple low tops made with rustic wood. There's even a couple Laws Whiskey House barrels turned high top! I'm not sure, but something might be aging in them too. It's so cozy and inviting. They really made the most of the space! They have a huge patio space both out front and on the side of the building (complete with string lights). Hogshead Brewery does have a small parking lot out front and plenty of street parking in the surrounding neighborhood. BREWS: So good! They specialize in englih style ales at Hogshead. My fellow brewery goer and I opted for the Blacktop. It's basically two drinks served together. The main part of the drink is their London Porter - Gilpin Black Gold. It's super rich with cocoa powder, coffee, pepper-wood, and dark fruit notes. This is paired with thier barley wine - Window Licker. This was def a bit sweeter and strong! You only get a four ounce pour of this with your pint. They limit this drink pairing to three per person! Very unique and VERY tasty! BITES: While Hogshead Brewery may not have a kitchen of it's own - they do have a pretzal warmer serving up some delish Baker Street pretzels! So if you're in need of a snack during your visit - you're not out of luck! BEERTENDERS: So freindly! You can def tell that they have a passion for both beer and their patrons! We chatted with the beertender, brewers, and some other patrons during our visit. Sometimes a smaller space makes for a warmer, more inviting experience for everyone. Hogshead is a true hidden gem in the Denver Beer scene! I can't wait to go back and check out more of their tasty brews!

kevin h.

Yelp
The beer scene may be crowded, but solid cask ale is a rare treat. Small place, low key, and nothing overly pretentious.
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
The owner David has quite the personality. This is the one and I think only place in the United States where you can actually get a pull from a cask. This is the real thing don't hesitate to go. Inside is pretty small but friendly and there is some outdoor seating but nothing to nosh on. You can sign up to get David's email notifications for his special events also
google avatar

Matt D.

Yelp
Best cask beer in the state with an awesome staff to back it up. Neighborhood spot with a welcoming vibe. Come for a grill out!
google avatar

Alexandra D.

Yelp
We've been coming here for years and never had a bad experience! Dave, Alex, Nick, Steve, Tony and everyone on the staff is simply amazing! The beer is wonderful cask vs keg, real deal English Ales. The best date for me at Hogshead is a Lake Lightning beer and a warm pretzel with spicy mustard! There are not enough words to describe the atmosphere and the experience you have here! Staff is kind, attentive and always take good care of their clients here! Throughout the year they have events and one of the best ones we've been to was their 5 yr anniversary where they roasted 2-3 pigs, fun times and great beer !
google avatar

Tara H.

Yelp
It can be hard to find beer on cask, but this place makes okay beer. I've just had better beer on cask near where I live, so I'm probably just a harsh critic. The space inside is small, yet cozy. You can order pizza from the nearby pizzeria too. They seemed to be dog-friendly, as I walked in with my dog and no one said anything to me. Overall, if you've never had beer on cask, try this place out.
google avatar

Devin R.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years. If you like the English style ales then you're in luck! This will be some of the best outside (or maybe even within) England. If you've never tried cask beer then open your mind and taste buds to it and go for it. The patio is wonderful. The indoor tap room is cozy and comfortable. Don't be afraid to share a communal table and get to know the nice folks that frequent here.
google avatar

Doctor L.

Yelp
I've been waiting 10 years to come here and it was worth the wait. Anyone who tells you this place isn't good doesn't have a clue what they're talking about. I am a cask ale devotee, and have been for over 20 years. Ten years ago I spent a year living in London, which only cemented my thirst for it. I seek out bars and establishments that serve it specifically for that reason. I live in San Francisco and my dad lives in Denver, specifically Brighton. We don't make it out to West Denver often which is why I have not been here before. This trip I told him the only thing I insisted on doing was going to this brewery, and it was totally worth it. There are proper, quality English style ales. If you enjoy proper English ales, and admittedly not everyone does, you will absolutely love this place. Hands down one of the best breweries in the entire country.
google avatar

Peter G.

Yelp
Cool location and good beer! Tons of outdoor seating. They have an NFL Gameday Potluck that sounds like a blast.
google avatar

SeeingElvis K.

Yelp
I recently stopped in and had a cask ESB that was right up there with pints I typically have in old inn pubs in Staffordshire, UK. That's a very good thing in a bit of a "My hops are bigger than yours" or "here's my fever dream goofy adjunct" brewing period here in the States. Respect.
google avatar

Dale Z.

Yelp
Pros: It is a nice taproom . There is an outdoor patio with water provided for your dogs. They have parking (which many places do not). They concentrate on doing traditional English ales (and doing them well). Cons: Overall lack of customer focus (I did pick up on some of the things noted by others). Not posting IBU's or ABV's (as if it is a secret) and being reluctant to divulge this basic information. It was also NOT the friendliest service I have received in a brewery. Examples: being made to feel slightly stupid for asking for a flight or taster even though that is pretty much an industry standard in Colorado, and most of the United States, feeling that I was skipped over in favor of regular customers. Usually I read reviews before coming to a brewery, but we hit this one unexpectedly. My experiences appear to be on par with what several other people described.
google avatar

Carmen G.

Yelp
We came by on a Friday night to check off another spot on our Denver Pub Passes. Oddly enough, my doctor had also recommended me this place a few weeks prior because of their beer on cask. It was about 8pm and wasn't too busy. We were able to easily find a table outside. It was a really chill atmosphere which is exactly what we were looking for on our lowkey Friday night. It was our first time trying beer on cask so that was fun and we brought food from a place nearby. Any place that allows dogs to come is a plus to me!
google avatar

Ian C.

Yelp
Beer was average, the staff was rude. Give your business to other breweries where the beer is better and staff is friendlier.

Westwoods P.

Yelp
Great people, and the cask beer is fantastic. Unique. So glad something like this exists.
google avatar

Deya Z.

Yelp
With a name like Hogshead, we had to go...like, there was no option. We stopped by a while ago but I still remember the fateful day we stopped by, and have been back at least 2-3 times. Each time the beertender has been super friendly, even though the place was relatively busy. I'm not typically a fan of cask ales or English ales for that matter but this place was pretty tasty. Its a fairly small place so don't plan on heading in with your gaggle of 20 friends and expect to find a seat. There are a few community tables in side as well as a decent sized patio.
google avatar

Lisa F.

Yelp
Pub Pass 2018 strikes again. What a great place I may have never known about with it. My husband and I went around 2 PM on a Saturday and the place was steady for sure but not annoyingly overcrowded. We each enjoyed an Oktoberfest which was wonderful on a cold and kind of gray day. The beer itself was superior to most of Oktoberfest's on the market and to be honest should be canned and sold in stores (do you do that - jeez I wish if not)! I would definitely recommend Hogshead Brewery to anyone in the area as the beer was top-notch and the lady behind the bar was friendly and helpful. Also, the crowd was a good mix of young and old and that it the true mark of a good brewery to me.
google avatar

Ryan P.

Yelp
Hogshead Brewery is HANDSDOWN, my FAVORITE Brewery in Denver! Cask Conditioned Beers are smooth and creamy. The owner (Head Brewer) has definitely found his niche with the English Style Ales... His Marge's Mild is absolutely amazing... as is the Downtown Julie Brown.
google avatar

Diane G.

Yelp
The place is small and intimate. They do have an outdoor patio for summer. The cask conditioned ales are delicious. They have snacks, but no food truck tonight. They have a tv to watch sports- they had a hockey game on tonight.
google avatar

Kristin C.

Yelp
This is a great little place nestled in the Sloan's lake / highland neighborhood. They have a great outdoor patio for seating. If you're into wheat beers, this is not the place to go. All their beers are English style and definitely more hoppy and the bar tenders weren't super helpful with help picking out a beer. It did feel like a neighborhood pub where many people frequent and are regulars when I was there.
google avatar

Rachell B.

Yelp
A M A Z I N G! All staff was welcoming, warm and CLEAN! There was a check in, temp check, and a thorough thought out flow of how to keep all patrons safe. The outdoor patio with misters was shaded and perfect. I hate yelp reviews being in the restaurant industry but this place deserves a major shoutout during this scary time. Thanks team for providing a safe environment with still beyond exceptional service and food. Also try the summer shandy ;)
google avatar

Derek K.

Yelp
I've been wanting to check out Hogshead as I've heard great things. While an avid craft beer drinker, I'm not very familiar with English style ales and cask-conditioned beers. Its always fun to seek out new beers, talk to the staff and learn about their offerings. While the beer was excellent, the woman behind the bar was extremely curt and unfriendly. When I inquired about their beers and asked if they had more descriptions (other than the style) she said the descriptions were already on the board and refused to say anything further about the beers. I find good breweries are passionate about their beers and like to talk about them. Granted I may have caught her on a bad day and will probably check them out again. However, I would not call this a friendly place.
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
Brewery stop #1 of 5 and it was all up hill from here! Jesse D and I were scheduled for a brewery bus tour in Fort Collins and received a message the night before that they had to cancel. After sharing this with our friend Dale Z. asked if we wanted to hit some breweries up with him...it turns out the brewery bus cancellation was a blessing in disguise! We had a blast joining him on a Saturday brewery adventure in Denver. What I loved: - The tasting room is small and cozy with the feel of a neighborhood pub rather than a brewery. - The patio is dog friendly. - They have an excellent line up of beers, I was a huge fan of the rich frothy Gilpin Black Gold. - They pour a couple cask beers. - They serve delicious locally made pretzels that were delivered fresh that day. Room for improvement: - Offer taster portions (the three beers we ordered were all 10oz pours which is not conducive to trying out several beers at a new brewery). - List the ABV of your beers. - Put your best foot forward in the hospitality department. We would have easily stuck around to try more beers if they poured tasters and if the staff was friendly. If those two items are addressed I would easily bump this brewery up a star or two.
google avatar

Hector B.

Yelp
Great brewery to AVOID, especially during GABF! Their beers are boring. Their service is rude, especially the tall liverpool owner. THEY TREAT PEOPLE LIKE CRAP. I've gone several times and always disappointed. Is that English style? I'd hope not. They don't do flights either. Too special for that. There are so many great breweries in Denver that missing this one should be seen as a win! Avoid.
google avatar

Lee S.

Yelp
Oh my! I was just transported to London Walking into an actual London pub Beer to my left Beer to my right And so good Tried a couple Proper pour Yes, proper And friendly staff Great stories Told us the history Engaged with us This is a pub And oh the beer is grand Long way away, but... I'll be back
google avatar

Rebeca R.

Yelp
3.5 stars Love the conversion of a service station into a modern brewery & tap room. Not a huge fan of the surly vibe. Been there twice and liked it enough, but servicewise I will hope for improvement! The customer service could be oh so much better. Sitting at the bar for a while, the same scene repeated: customer asks 'can I get a flight', employee snobishly replies 'we don't do that here'. The explanation is that it wastes beer as people will try them and not like them all. What a crock! Some people just opted for a 10oz of each and after we sat there drinking one at a time & sharing them that is basically what we did too. The beer is quite good, and the space is designed well. It is awful tiny, so if they get space heaters I can see peeps chillin outside in all kinds of weather. The bar is small and it is hard to get service if you don't get a bar stool, and even then it is a challenge. Also, there are not really descriptions of the beer available which is a bummer. I hope this place gets growing. But dang, that attitude could definitely be improved!
google avatar

Allan B.

Yelp
This is a great neighborhood brewery that has the best beer in Denver. If you are looking for amazing cask beer this is the place. The guys at hogshead are constantly innovating and refining the beers. When I think beer - I think Hogshead.
