Dreamforce 2022: Best Places to Eat in Downtown San Francisco for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner - Eater SF

"It’s well worth grabbing a seat at this new Vietnamese restaurant before it gets as popular as it deserves. Matt Ho’s pandemic pop-up turned permanent location serves outrageous yuzu oysters, bun cha, and ube panna cotta for dinner, though the lunch meal is more expansive, leaning into more familiar fare like garlic noodles and pho. Cocktails are also worth considering including the milk washed Le Citron Noir, spiked with whiskey and floral black tea." - Paolo Bicchieri

Great food and a quiet serene atmosphere. Was looking for a good pho place and this popped up. Definitely recommend their pho, it’s fragrant and tasty, and their bun bo hue is great too. Also had to get their grilled minced pork lemongrass wrap. It is very flavorful and delicious. When I’m back in SF I’ll stop here again and recommend to friends.

The restaurant is clean and is in good location. Parking might be a little hard to find since it’s mostly street parking. Lots of delicious authentic Vietnamese dishes to choose from. Bánh Xèo is crispy on the outside and the taste is rich with the coconut milk. The filling is filled with shrimps, pork, bean sprouts, carrots and bamboo shoots. It is served with fresh greens along with delicious fish sauce that has the perfect balance of sweet and savory. I accidentally ordered fish soup instead of Ha Noi Rice Vermicelli and the manager was kind allowed me ro switch my dish. I minute she brought out the plate of Ha Noi Rice Vermicelli, I imagined as if I was on the streets of Vietnam. I can smell the authentic barbecue flavor and charcoal from the pork sausage and egg rolls. I love the way the pork sausages are soaked in fish sauce to absorb more flavor. It is served with rice noodles and fresh green herbs. They gave me an extra bowl to put a little of everything together. My first bite brought a smile and satisfaction to my face. It is Sooooo Deliciously Good! OMG it is just so flavorful. The seasonings is perfect and the fish sauce just balance everything so well. The egg roll is super crispy and not oily at all. They use a different type of wrapper, not your normal egg roll wrapper you find at the store. The fillings inside is juicy and flavorful. I will definitely go back and if you’re in San Francisco, wanting good authentic Vietnamese food, definitely go here! I don’t say this to many restaurants but this restaurant got me missing being on the streets of Vietnam eating delicious food and the smell of charcoal.

Michelin Star - bun cha ha noi !!! Never had such a delicious Bun Cha Ha Noi. The Curry was also very good and fruity.

We were amazed by the food. The garlic noodle tastes so good and the beef is so tender and cooked really well. The Ha Noi Rice vermicelli is also good which is a plate you taste different kinds of food, the grilled patty and the pork skewers are delicious. Will definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy the fine Vietnamese food

Sooooooo good! Had incredible pho and this amazing pork lemongrass skewers!

Google
A lot of healthy options, flavor was just right, not too saucy. Their quantities are enormous, sharing works great. Need to buy rice or garlic noodles separately for entree, but an entree serves 1.5 in quantity. Definitely try the garlic noodles.

Yelp
HoiAn 1608 is an absolute gem! O R D E R E D - Shaking Beef [Bo Luc Lac] - Caramelized Fish - Lemongrass Pork Sausage Skewers - HoiAn Scallops - Vietnamese Braised Spare Ribs with Pineapple V E R D I C T The location is perfect--right on a prime corner with beautiful sunlight streaming in from all angles, thanks to the surrounding windows. Whether you're dining inside or enjoying a meal outside on a nice day, the atmosphere is warm, inviting, and filled with thoughtful details that transport you straight to HoiAn. They also have an elegant bar area, adding to the cozy yet refined vibe. Now, let's talk about the food--because wow, it's incredible. First of all, we did not come here to get pho, so don't think this is your typical Vietnamese pho spot, HoiAn 1608 is NOT that. I tried several dishes, and every single one was a hit. The shaking beef (Bò Lúc Lắc) was a standout. The beef was tender and flavorful, but the star of the dish? Those fried glazed potatoes. My dad and I literally fought over them because they were THAT good! The HoiAn scallops were another favorite. They had just the right spicy kick and were so irresistible that I'm glad I ordered the full portion--I pretty much devoured it solo. The caramelized fish (we chose catfish) was perfectly cooked with no trace of the "dirt flavor" you sometimes get elsewhere. It was a game-changer for me. The lemongrass pork sausage skewers were a fun DIY spring roll experience, complete with a platter of toppings and pandan and beef-flavored vermicelli noodles--so unique and delicious. Finally, the Vietnamese braised spare rib with pineapple was hearty and packed with flavor, rounding out a meal that left me wanting more. Each dish was beautifully presented, colorful, and aromatic--you could smell the deliciousness from a mile away. If you're craving Vietnamese cuisine beyond just pho, HoiAn 1608 is the place to be. They offer hearty, flavorful dishes that will take your taste buds on an unforgettable journey. Bonus: I found street parking right around the corner, which was super convenient! Do yourself a favor and make a reservation here--you won't regret it!

Yelp
Ambiance nice and comfortable. Service was attentive and warm. Food was good, but not exceptional. I would have rated 3 star... but my daughter's both enjoyed thier meal... soooo 4 star overall. At the table: Eggplant w/ chicken, Yellow curry with duck, Catfish hotpot dish, Steak hotpot dish. $170 without tip.... food was good, but not worthy of the price.

Yelp
When here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and to our surprise there were so many available tables at noon, but as time went on, the restaurant was fully packed! I haven't been to many Vietnamese places in the city, but was pleasantly surprised by their entrees. I think I would pass on ordering the appetizers. The crispy mini pancakes (banh khot) and scallops were just ok. The mini pancake dough was too thick and not crispy enough and the scallops were super small. The star of the meal was the entrees. The grilled pork skewers (nem nuong) was so great to share. We rolled our own skewers and it was delicious! The canh chua with cat fish was also super tasty. I would say the best dish we had was the filet mignon with garlic noodles. The filet was so soft and tender and the fried potatoes were amazing. It's a must try. The restaurant is pretty spacious, I think good for parties of 2-6. I would come back if I'm ever in the city!

Yelp
This restaurant is quite pricey for a Vietnamese restaurant, probably one of the priciest amongst its kind in SF. However, the food is definitely top tier - probably also one of the best Vietnamese food I've tasted in California. If budget is not a concern or you wanna treat yourself for a special occasion, I would highly recommend trying this restaurant out. They feature some of the classic Vietnamese dishes but also some rare ones that you won't find easily from just any Vietnamese restaurants! Below is a dish by dish review: 1. Shaking Beef 10/10 The best version of shaking beef I've had so far out of any Thai, Vietnamese, or pan-SEA restaurant I've been to. You have to try it, the potatoe is "chef's kiss"! 2. Pork sausage 9.5/10 The dish is a bit tricky to assemble for people not familiar with Vietnamese food but I promise the result is truly rewarding! 3. Bun Bo Hue 9/10 Unlike traditional beef pho, I find the soup of this dish more flavorful, and it got some kick to it for sure because it's spiced up! 4. Passionfruit Limenade 10/10 A must try for refreshing sweet drink lovers, much better than a traditional lemonade! Overall food: 9/10 Service: 9/10 Environment: 10/10

Yelp
Got the yellow curry Cari with chicken! Loved how thick and rich the curry was. And the pot they served it in was super hot and kept the food warm the whole meal which is a great plus. The ambiance inside is super nice. Very well decorated and contemporary designs. The service was decent too, sometimes you need to grab their attention. Over all I had a good experience. It is on the pricier side but makes sense given the ambiance.

Yelp
Went for dinner here tonight with friends, got the referral from an IG post...lol... on a Sunday night, the restaurant was relaxed and we were able to get a table right away. The servers were very helpful explaining the dishes, and provided recommendations and talked about the dishes we pointed out on other Yelp reviews (visuals really help). We ordered for appetizers the mini pancakes, and oysters; for family style entree we ordered the caramelized salmon, the shaking beef and the stir fry lemon grass chicken and white rice... Group favorite were the mini pancakes and the shaking beef especially the potatoes!! The shaking beef sauce is spicy and a little sweet and the potatoes had crispy outside skin and covered with the sauce it was so good! The beef was tender and juicy. The 2 appetizers and 3 main entrees were a good portion for 4 people and we still had a small take away box afterwards. Good food at good portions for family style sharing, good ambiance with lots of colorful lanterns decorating the outside and inside of the restaurant and helpful staff. I recommend for group dinners/lunch and for families!

Yelp
One of the best Vietnamese food in San Francisco right now for me after I tried it. The restaurant located on Polk st. The restaurant is nice and spacious. I went there for lunch and they were not that busy. Which I think is great because the service and food were really fast. Let's me talk about food. First I got the fried wings gotta say that flavor is good and the fried really crispy. A bit too oily but if you dip with the sauce it will be perfect. Spicy beef noodle really tender beef. Light broth and a hint of spiciness. Favorite for me would be this order of bun ha hoi an. The combination of grilled pork and refreshing vegetables with a rice noodles and light sweet sour sauce, ngoc nam. It was a lot of food and it was delicious, it might cost you a bit more than your usual Vietnamese food but I think it worth it. If you're looking for a good Vietnamese food in SF , I definitely recommend this one.

Yelp
Heard a lot about this restaurant and was excited to try it when I saw it on Polk. Went in around 1 pm for lunch and it was spacious inside so we were seated quickly. Our dishes came out one by one after we ordered, everything was hot and fresh. Imperial Crispy Rolls (Cha Gio Tom Thit) - The rolls were lightly crisp outside, warm and meaty inside. It tasted nice all together with the vermicelli, vegetables and sweet and sour sauce. We could really taste the different textures from the shrimp to wood ear mushroom to carrots inside. Vietnamese Mini Pancakes (Banh Knot) - My first time trying this dish and I enjoyed it. It was soft, a little sweet and had an eggy flavor. I liked that there was a variety of meat topping them with shrimp, chicken, scallop and crab meat. Hai Noi Rice Vermicelli - The dish was rich with flavor and the ingredients were very fresh. I liked the grilled patties in the sauce and all the meat was tender. Everything was a balance of sweet, sour and light spice. All the dishes were plated beautifully and with freshness and taste that matched it. Highly recommend checking them out for delicious Vietnamese food.

Yelp
This place has amazing authentic Vietnamese food! It's Vietnamese person approved. The restaurant has a really nice ambience and cute interior. The staff was so friendly and even charged my phone for me because it died. The scallops and papaya salad was a great way to start the course. Then we got grilled prawns with banh hoi, the bun cha had so many veggies and herbs, the bo luc lac was my favorite!! It even had potatoes in it. Everything here was so good and I will def be coming back on the weekend for the banh khot.

Yelp
After a long day at Stern Grove we were on our way to Bob's Donuts and stopped to chat with a local walking his dog to ask for his recommendation for a nearby restaurant. It turns out he owns a bar in North Beach and told us he really loved Hoi An and we should check it out. Thank you, thank you, thank you! We went straight to this little gem and were immediately impressed upon entry with the design, decor and lighting. The lanterns, sculpted ceiling, wood slice wall and comfy chairs that you can hang your purse on were all appreciated. There were 4 of us and we ordered the Wok Fried Cubed Filet Mignon With Garlic Noodle, Grilled Lemongrass Beef and Ha Noi Rice Vermicelli. Everybody loved their dishes and I had to share the Wok Fried potatoes on my plate because I thought they were so good. I mean how exciting can a potato be, right? One person described it as "orgasmic". No guarantees there but it was good. The preparation and flavors were fantastic!

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place out for a while and finally came on a Tuesday night! No wait for a table for two at around 7:30p. First off, the interior is beautiful! Very tranquil and more upscale than I expected. Of course, this meant the prices were a bit higher than expected too. I have very differing opinions of the two dishes we got - I thought the pork Hoi an bowl was very flavorful and generous in portion! The vermicelli and fresh vegetables made it especially refreshing, and it was at a cheaper price point than most of the entrees. However, the bun bo hue was only ok - you could tell it catered towards more American audiences as it lacked the other ingredients often found in bun bo hue (e.g., pork blood). My biggest problem was the portion of meat inside. There were only like four pieces of meat overall, and the rest was noodle. Quite disappointing.

Yelp
Good Vietnamese spot in Nob Hill, conveniently located on Polk St. It's open pretty late so a good option for a later dinner. When we went around 8 on a Friday, it was quite empty, which unfortunately made it a bit awkward to talk because it felt like the whole restaurant was able to hear our conversation. I think the vibes would be a lot better when it's more busy at a more common dinner hour. The harp music they play is very soothing and adds to the quiet intimate ambiance. The service is extremely attentive and it felt like we had our water glasses refilled after every sip. The food also comes out super fast. We got beef pho, yellow curry with chicken, and the spring rolls. All were solid. The spring rolls were actually my favorite thing from the meal -- so fresh and the peanut sauce was delicious. Tasted very homemade and healthy. I liked that the yellow curry had taro chunks in it, which I've never seen in curry before. I think the curry could've been a little more flavorful overall. It's a huge portion though!

Yelp
Actually very delicious and authentic Vietnamese food! I've been searching for authentic Vietnamese food in SF for some time, but I haven't found a place worth returning to until here. It's beautiful, super cute decor, excellent service, and genuine staff. The owner/manager spent time chatting it up with us. His wife is the chef. It makes me feel like I'm back home. I got the Bun Cha, Bo Nuong Sa, and Banh Khot - which were divine. I didn't get to try anything else but I will be coming back for more.

Yelp
Came in for a quick lunch l. Friends and I wanted pho but since it was so nice, we wanted a place that have outdoor seating. This combination was rare and Hoi An 1608 are one of the few places in the bay area that allows it -- esp outside of San Jose. We saw good reviews (though honestly skeptical) and went in to get pho. Outdoor seating is ok, part of it was on the slope so bowls and chopsticks often slip a little. (We had one little water incident). Food was ok. I think the best way to describe it is that it is Americanized healthy pho vs authentic. First I've been broccoli as the vegetable in pho ga. And for my bun bo hue, the broth was super light and not pundgent like it normally is. It also does not have pork blood, which is a bit disappointing. Price was $21-25 a bowl. So when we add a shared egg roll and noodle. Tax and tip and all, $40/person. Likely will not return.

Yelp
My family and I visited this spot on Wednesday for lunch at 11 AM. They had just opened so there was no wait to be seated. The interior was modern rustic, and the decorations were so cute with the colorful lanterns. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating. We ordered the Bún Bò Huế ($23), Bún Cá ($24), and the Hoi An Bowl/Bún Thịt Nướng ($20.5+$5). The beef noodles and its broth was delicious, although not very spicy. The rare steak was incredibly tender, and noodles were bouncy. The fish noodles were in a clear and clean broth that was flavorful with hints of sweetness from the pineapple. The fish was soft, and crispy fries shallots were a great touch. The grilled pork noodles had perfectly charred pork slices and a crispy roll. The fish sauce was salty, sweet, and so tasty. I wished there were more green onion oil on the top. The Vietnamese coffee ($7) was a little too sweet for my liking, especially the bottom, however, I loved the crushed ice. Overall, this Vietnamese restaurant is a gem!! Although the price is quite steep, we enjoyed all the dishes and even think it's better than Vietnamese restaurants in San Jose. Would definitely come back to try the mini pancakes.

Yelp
WOW! My boyfriend and I just finished dining here for the first time, and we're already planning our next visit--with friends and family in tow! This place is a true gem and service is wonderful! The ambiance is stunning, with decor that transports you straight to Vietnam. From the lotus flower ceiling to the tree trunk wall and colorful lanterns, every detail adds to the experience. It's clear that the owner is deeply committed to both the quality and authenticity of the food, as well as the cleanliness of the restaurant. Specializing in Southern Vietnamese cuisine, this spot offers a range of delicious dishes. We highly recommend the grilled pork chop garlic rice plate, shaking beef, imperial rolls, and scallops. We also tried a few vermicelli dishes, and they were equally amazing. The pork chop had a fantastic char flavor that we've never experienced at other Vietnamese restaurants. The scallops took us back to the flavors of Southeast Asia, the imperial rolls were perfectly crispy, and the shaking beef was incredibly tender. The BBH (Bún Bò Huế) here doesn't include pork blood like other places, but it tastes clean and is packed with the perfect balance of spices and herbs. This restaurant is a must-visit for anyone who loves authentic Vietnamese cuisine, and we can't wait to return!
google avatar

Terry G.

Yelp
One of the only place I've been to where Vegetarian options are not an afterthought. Their vegetarian Pho is really good. The vibe is calming and the good presentation is pretty nice. Definitely a local favorite spot for us.
google avatar

Jane B.

Yelp
One order of pho, an appetizer, tea and Vietnamese coffee for two was $75 with tip. Food was very good, but not worth $75. Owner came over to chat and freely offer up his conservative and simplistic political views, which did not pair well with my meal.
google avatar

Edie N.

Yelp
Absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic Vietnamese cuisine. They even have the traditional plates like canh chua and ca kho! For today I was just craving the egg rolls and bun Bo hue. The egg rolls may have been the best ones I've had in years. So crispy, fresh and love the side of veggies! Traditionally we wrap it like a lettuce wrap! Bun Bo hue was great. Meat was tender and broth was just right!
google avatar

Nancy P.

Yelp
Good food, dog friendly, we were able to sit outside with our pup! They created cute pretty private seating. Surprised when the waitress opened the windows from inside to take our order, and serve us water and food. They did not come to check on us. Food was good, not spectacular and on the pricier side.

Wayne L.

Yelp
Amazing food and ambiance. Bathrooms are super clean and great service. Definitely come here during Santa con.

Yelp
this beautiful restaurant is on polk and Sacramento and it's A1! A delicious family owned restaurant that puts their heart into its food. Now that Aux has shuttered its doors, this is your one stop shop for elite viet/pho on Polk. Although it's pricey, it's well worth the cost and we want them to stay open for as long as possible. If you're in need of comfort, please check this restaurant out. The staff/owner is super accommodating and want you to have a good night. This is my second time here so it's certified! For the vegetarians and vegans, they have several options for you toooo! Hoi An is yummy for the tummy
google avatar

Nikki M.

Yelp
It was okay. The service was good but the food was not worth the price. It was good but just a little bland. I ordered the yellow curry and wasn't a huge fan and my friend ordered the pho and the chicken was very dry!
google avatar

George C.

Yelp
We are in SF for a few days from halfway around the world and we're looking for something special! We really loved the attentive service and all 4 of us loved our dishes and cleaned the plates. The decore was calming and with the windows open we had a beautiful breeze while the world went by. If you are nearby looking for a great meal and experience, be sure to try this place!

Yelp
For me, this spot consistently hits the mark for high quality in ingredients, cleanliness and flavor. I've come with my partner several times for lunch and we've tried: 1. Prawn spring roll -- my personal go-to for a weekday meal. Always delicious! Fresh and light. 2. Hoi An bowls -- my partner's go-to. Filling and flavorful. 3. Hoi An Scallops -- we've gotten this twice. There are thin noodles on top, and it's delicious. 4. Bun Cha -- we came here once for a weekend meal and opted for the bun cha. It came on a gorgeous platter, and we made small bowls of noodles and meat along with lettuce wraps. 5. Bun Bo hue -- for the same weekend meal I mentioned above, I opted for the bun Bo hue. The meat was tender, and the broth made my soul happy! Service has always been good - they've greeted us, seated us, and taken our orders efficiently. I'm a frequent here and will continue coming back!

Yelp
Food: Obsessed with the Hoi A scallops! I've gotten them atleast 5 times. The pho broth is a bit sweeter but I prefer it / like it that way. Service: Service is great, they never try to rush you out (unlike many SF establishments). Ambiance: Plenty of seating. I've never had to wait. Great place to catch up with friends.
google avatar

Olive R.

Yelp
The scallops were a major thumps up!!! Anything with noodles is always a plus for me. This appetizer was flavorful. I also ordered the Hanoi vermicelli salad. It included both shrimp and pork. The staff was professional and polite. This restaurant is in a location that is perfect for locals. It's by several public transportation stops and makes it easy to "just stop by".

Yelp
After we saw the broadway musical Mrs. Doubtfire, we took the Polk bus line and got off on Polk & Sacramento. We stopped first for donuts. However, we spotted the Vietnamese restaurant Hoi An so we checked it out. We were the only customers and it was quiet because it was 4 pm. This was nice so that my friend & I can chat better. We were impressed with the decor and clean dining room. Tracy, who is the owner, told us they have been at this location for 3 years now. They had the restaurant on Mission but closed down during pandemic. She was so nice explaining the ingredients of the pho. We ordered the appetizer Shrimp Spring Rolls, my friend ordered Bun Bo Hue and I ordered Vermicelli Fish Soup. I have not tried a pho with pineapple and tomato and it was delish. My friend said her beef noodle soup was tasty. Tracy was so sweet taking pictures of us with the food and with decors of the restaurant. My friend said she will return with her son & family. I don't mind coming back as this was the best Vietnamese restaurant I had visited so far.

Emily W.

Yelp
We've had their chicken pho noodle soup and shrimp pho noodle soup. One of the best in the city!

An T.

Yelp
Great ambiance and interior! Definitely on the higher end in terms of prices but the food is 10/10 in terms of taste and flavor, the portions for some of them is a little small. The owner is very attentive to each customers! We got the fried chicken wings, hoi an scallops, and Ha Noi rice vermicelli!
google avatar

Tara A.

Yelp
Not bad for Nob Hill! My husband saw this place when we were driving down Polk and wanted to try it since he's Vietnamese. We visited on a Sunday morning (slightly hungover, ha) and got two bowls of pho. I got the bun bo hue and he got the regular beef pho. The BBH was good, but didn't taste as citrusy and beefy as i'm used to. The beef was a little tough too. The noodles were on point though! Hubby enjoyed his beef pho as well. The prices are steep, but I guess that's Nob Hill for ya! I loved the interior design and the service was friendly. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit, but i'd be open to it if I were in the area.
google avatar

Bruce S.

Yelp
Expensive for this kind of fare. However, there are some specialties on the item menu that are *definitely* worth the cost. Meat was fatty & stringy. Not even a bit of chargrilled flavor. Beautiful and relaxing atmosphere. Fine selection of draft & bottled beer.
google avatar

Reeya C.

Yelp
tldr: amazing spot for flavorful Vietnamese food on Polk St. in Nob Hill. I was in the mood for Bun Bo Hue (spicy beef noodle soup) and saw this place on Yelp. We walked in on a Sunday afternoon, and the restaurant was empty. I was shocked because the menu is extensive and the food is delicious! We ordered the Bun Bo Hue and Hanoi Vermicelli Plate. To drink, we had Jasmine Tea (one pot serves ~2 people). Our server was very friendly and the food came out quickly. The Bun Bo Hue had a warm, slightly spiced broth, which complimented the savory, salty beef chunks so well. This dish is very filling, but not super heavy. The Vermicelli Plate has a beautiful presentation! It comes with vermicelli noodles, spring rolls, pork balls, beef skewers and an assortment of vegetables. Definitely get the this dish if you're looking to sample a variety of flavors and textures.

Stewart C.

Yelp
Food is great. Service is great. Grilled chicken is a must. Pho is obviously great. Easy to find

Yelp
A little far from our hotel on the edge of Tenderloin but worth the trip: Alot of seeing on the way (for good or bad) and we were seated and served quickly. Nice space, thoughtfully lit. Partner says the meat in pho was tender but the broth was flat. I loved my veggie dish tho and it didn't say what kind of rice would come with it so I was relieved when it was brown rice. (Hey we're from New York where white rice is still the default.)
google avatar

Meg G.

Yelp
awesome service, we loved our waiter! the food was flavourful and hearty, pretty decent portions! the eggplant tofu dish was to die for, and the clay pot vegetarian yellow curry was also great!
google avatar

Yelp
Their Scallops with glass noodles is one of my top ten bites in San Francisco. Hoi An is an upscale Vietnamese restaurant but not too expensive. Dishes are flavorful, well prepared and thoughtfully created. The restaurant feels bright and warming, with privacy and beautiful furnishings. Sound carries, but less than expected. Servers are delightful, helpful and knowledgeable eager to discuss any dish from how it is prepared, flavors and how to eat.
google avatar

Yelp
I wasn't too surprised to find another Vietnamese restaurant on this more demographically upscale stretch of Polk. It joins already the established players Aux Delices, Cordon Bleu, and Pho Vietnam not to mention all the Thai restaurants in the neighborhood that serve similar Russian Hill palates. However, if you ask penny-pinching me, I think the real competition is down on Larkin with all the Little Saigon eateries. Regardless, I felt a need to try this spot since I've tried most of the previous iterations at this address... Rangoon Ruby, Ella's, Sushi Rock, Green Papaya... there's been quite a revolving door at 1608 Polk. It definitely felt like a tonier restaurant than its menu would've implied, but I still went with my standard Vietnamese order. First I went with the $14 White Prawn Spring Rolls (Goi Cuon Tom) which I guess were premium priced since they poached the prawns. It was good and fresh although I admit pretty much anything tastes good with a peanut sauce (photo: https://bit.ly/3LKnXHe). Then I had the $18 Chicken Pho which was described simply as noodle soup even though it had atypical ingredients like baby bok choy halves and broccoli florets (photo: https://bit.ly/3kFF8hd). It was decent enough, but the broth was more on the watery side. I think k should come back to try their specialty entrees and leave the pho to Little Saigon. FOOD - 3 stars...pho and spring rolls are pretty standard AMBIANCE - 4 stars...nicely urban vibe SERVICE - 3.5 stars...stealthy TOTAL - 3 stars...maybe I should have more of a Slanted Door attitude RELATED - Exploring Russian Hill? Yelp
Great place for dinner. We were seated quickly and food was out within a timely manner. The spring rolls were fresh and the beef pho was delicious. Would come back when in the area.

Yelp
Nice and attentive staff. Good ambiance, especially next to one of their large windows overlooking bustling Polk street. We ordered the Pho Ga and Pho Tai, both were good but the beef in the Tai was a little gristly. Definitely worth another visit.

Yelp
Really, Really greasy. The Shaking Beef was good but there was just a vat of oil left over on the plate afterwards. Everything was shining from the oil. The taste was good, but I had to pat dry the potatoes. My friend got the Hanoi Vermicelli and the soup that came with it he barely ate as the meat did not look appetizing. the Mini pancakes tasted good, but were doughy on the inside and inconsistent. They also were caked in oil.

Yelp
While on the slightly pricier end compared to other pho restaurants in the area, Hội An is definitely worth a visit for its warm and comforting pho and beautiful ambiance. I got the steak pho, which came with a side of hoisin/sriracha, lemon, and jalapeño slices along with a plate of bean sprouts and thai basil for the table. The broth was the perfect temperature and neither too savory nor too oily. The steak was SO soft, and dipping each piece in hoisin-sriracha sauce was heavenly. The noodles were softer than I normally prefer, but this just means that the pho at this restaurant is probably ideal for people with more sensitive teeth. We came by at 6:30pm on a Sunday and had no problem getting a table for three. Service was super attentive, and we even got our water refilled multiple times (including after we paid our check).

Yelp
The beef pho soup is very tasty. You could tell they used beef bones to make the soup. The fish soup is also very good and refreshing with pineapples. Beef ribeye steak/cubes are tender. I love the ambience, there is always some soft music in the background; not the loud noisy music in which you can't have a proper conversation. They also have a lot of windows which can be opened in a warm day. Or just have the top windows open for fresh air. I could feel safe waiting inside. They also have some outdoor seats.

Yelp
Came here with a friend for lunch on a Saturday and was seated right away. The interior of the restaurant was pretty and clean. Food was very yummy! I ordered the Protein (Five spice chicken) & Garlic Noodles and I thought the chicken was super well cooked. Noodles could have used more garlic but other than that everything was great :)

Yelp
This is a great spot for pho where i would not have expected it! My wife and I split the (very fresh) vegetarian spring roll that came with a side of some of the tastiest peanut sauce we've had in a very long time. We both ordered the beef pho which came with a good amount of noodles and meat. Will be coming back. The inside of the restaurant is clean with nice decor, and the staff was attentive and helpful.
