Best Cold Noodle Dishes Around Dallas | Eater Dallas

"Hoja Bubble Tea and Asian Street Food echo the energy and variety of Taiwan’s famous street food markets. In Plano, one can enjoy all these in a singular entity rather than in a collective of food carts. The Taiwanese cold noodles with creamy sesame sauce, topped with julienned vegetables and a choice of scrambled eggs or boiled chicken or ham, are hearty, rich, bright, and fresh." - Didi Paterno

Google
Here for the crispy g pie, which is one of my favorites. Wednesday is a good day to visit with the specials they have like 3.99 teas, yum. Numerous places to sit throughout, and definitely a hidden gem.

Google
Must come and eat! Make me think of my home and country! The crispy chicken braised pork rice is awesome!

Google
This place is a hidden gem at Frisco area!! They have so many good boba drinks choices. They also have authentic Taiwanese foods like G-pie and crispy chicken. I got seafood soup and it was really delicious and savory highly recommend it!!!!

Google
Absolutely one of my favorite go to places in Plano for authentic Taiwanese snacks!! They got almost all the popular items you could buy at a Taiwanese night market✨ I love their oolong milk tea, jumbo brown sugar latte, crispy chicken, sweet potato fries! Everything tastes amazing 😋 10/10 recommend!

Google
Crispy G-pie’s the best of the various dishes we tried here. Huge bigger-than-my-hand friedchicken that’s lighly crispy & chicken’s fully cooked. Wished it camewith a sauce or 2 though. The other dishes—crispy fried chicken, duck soup, & crispy taro—were just middling. Pricey for the portion & quality. Was just missing something. Adding sauce options would be an improvement like other Taiwanese cafes we usually go to. Their boba teas were just meh too.

Google
Traditional Taiwanese street food is very different from traditional Chinese food. Their G-Pie (a huge piece of fried chicken breast) is my favorite here together with Jumbo Fresh Made Mixed Fruit Tea.

Google
Pretty solid food and drinks. Best part of the place is the vibes and the cute little designs all over the place. Great place to study as the restaurant provides free WiFi and outlets for customers. Music was 80-90s mix of instrumentals and pop songs creating a nice vibe!

Google
This place is such a vibe! The inside is cozy with plenty of different seating options and cool light fixtures. The menu seems overwhelming due to all the options. I’ve always hated boba until I had theirs. With every drink order they ask how sweet and how much ice. My son and I walk here once weekly in the evenings as a fun treat. We’ve tried several different drinks but never had the food. The place always has people dining (families) and the food always smells so good. They have a shelf by the front door stacked full of different board games that you can play while you eat or sip. Glad we found this gem!

Yelp
Great food tastes just like in Taiwan. The fried chicken is perfectly fried and super juicy. The brown sugar boba is top quality and not too sweet Highly recommended

Yelp
Came on a weeknight and it wasn't too busy. They have drink specials also during the weekday. The rice dinner box lunches were a reasonable price and great portions. The food still tastes good and as it always does. Simple, easy, and good. I always love the variety they provide. There's also a great selection of fruit and milk tea drinks. Service was friendly and food came out timely.

Yelp
Drinks: 4 stars Food: 2-3 stars Service: 4 stars Ambience: 4 stars The QPie was a 2 star. For starters, the chicken needs to be pounded into a thin piece. What I got was a big piece of whole chicken breast. Inside was juicy but couldn't bite into that big piece. I ended up eating the flakey fried battered outside. It was well seasoned Braised pork on rice didn't look like their picture showing the whole piece of pork. What I got felt like minced pork not pork belly. It was good but probably won't get that again. The fruit tea was delicious and I would go back for that, not too sweet and has fruits inside.

Yelp
Probably the best place to get authentic Taiwanese food in the Dallas area. I really enjoyed their egg crepe rolls, pork chop, and Taiwanese sausage! Will need to come back to try the Ji-Pai (fried chicken)

Yelp
ORDER - Crispy Chicken Combo with Oolong Milk Tea with Boba - Luwei Combo with fish cake, black pudding rice, king oyster mushroom, with instant noodles with Assam Black Milk Tea - Crispy Fresh Taro Cake - Crispy Chicken Steak The food and drinks are really good in my opinion. Both the oolong and assam black milk tea had a tea flavor that wasn't too overpowering. The boba was also chewy and yum. All the food that came out was piping hot and crispy. The Crispy Chicken was pretty crispy. The flavor was alright overall. A little bit on the more bland side but still tasted decent. The Luwei combo came in a pretty large portion and tasted good as well. I've never had a dish like this so I enjoyed eating it. Though I will mention that it was a bit salty, but overall the fish cakes were cooked well, the black pudding rice was tasty, and the mushrooms were sizeable and delicious. The Crispy Fresh Taro Cake was so so good! I would highly recommend it to anyone coming. I am not a fan of taro but this tasted really good. It was a combination of sweet, hot, and crispy. The flavors mix really well and make this a good snack. My family loved this dish! Lastly, the Crispy Chicken Steak was super crispy and hot as well. I enjoyed the flavor more than the crispy chicken. The pieces were also huge! Overall, the food is delicious for the prices! I would definitely come back here! VIBES The decorations are really cute. They have a little corner with signs, wall art, and plushies that you can take pictures with. Also, there is plenty of seating. The lighting is on the more dim side at night which creates a nice, cozy vibes. The place is pretty clean overall as well. Perfect place for families and for hanging out and talking. SERVICE Service was phenomenal! We came in around 45 minutes before closing but the people working, Gabby and Jackson, were still very nice and welcoming. Gabby was super patient when we were ordering and deciding. Both were very polite throughout and were constantly working either on orders, cleaning up the place, or helping other customers that came in. They made our experience very pleasant on top of the good food and drink.

Yelp
Amazing, I've never left a review here. I think I've been here 12 times in 2 months, which is saying a lot since I live an hour away, round trip. I love the easy "hang out and chill" vibe, the delicious ice teas, favorite is their fruit tea, and the fried popcorn chicken, both on its own and in bento box form. The people who work here are knowledgeable, though depending on when you go, you could get a less experienced... tea specialist (?) - that happened to me on my last visit. Tea was fine, but I found that there was a giant block of jelly that took up 1/4 of my cup, making it hard to drink and the tea to mix in ratio was off. Love their fried chicken. Pass on the fried oyster mushrooms unless you've never had it any where else and have no preconceived notions on what it should be. This version is chunks of king oyster mushroom, battered a bit thickly and fried. It can get busy, but it doesn't feel like a factory - it's clean, you place your order at the cashier with a real live person, and feels more welcoming than tea franchises, where there's no one who can answer your questions about the different drinks. In my experience, everyone who works here has been nice and patient when answer questions about food and drinks. See you soon

Yelp
Omg. I fell in love here at first sip. Ordered the Thai Tea Slush with boba....yum! The flavor is very good and the tapioca is PERFECT. Just the right texture and flavor. I am already looking forward to my next visit to try other flavors. The service was excellent. Very welcoming and friendly, he was very polite in informing me about the flavors. The ambiance is very chill. Nice music at a good level.

Yelp
The restaurant was clean and nice, and there was not much service as you're supposed to order at the counter and then get your own eating utensils. The Pork Intestine Noodle Soup is nice and flavorful, however, there is very little intestines. The Yachun Noodle with Braised Pork Sauce and Braised Egg is ok overall, but a bit too sweet for my own personal taste. I didn't try their boba this time as I came for lunch, but I would like to try it next time.
google avatar

Yelp
Their food taste good! H8 Pork Rib Bento and H3 Chicken have enough portion and with cabbage as veggie. The restaurant is clean when we visited on Saturday lunch time. Their services are patient to go thru the long menu with us. Parking spots are easy to find in the plaza. We will revisit!

Yelp
I came here on a quick hear about it from a coworker when it was Happy Hour for them which was great. Atmosphere was really good even though it was a bit tiny. The workers were helpful and patient, very good service. I got the Jumble Brown Sugar Latte which had a mix of different toppings in it. This was my first time here so I could not "gain a feel" for how sweet everything would be so it was a bit too sweet for me. The toppings were also not bad, but I will come back for sure to see what other drinks I can get. Maybe I might try the food out one day.
google avatar

Gavin T.

Yelp
Jumble Fruit Tea you need this on a hot day. It's incredibly refreshing. I went in on Wednesday and to my surprise, all the drinks are $3.99
google avatar

Yelp
Never cease to amaze! Got my Crispy Chicken fix! Fried taro was really great (vanished before a picture was taken)! Great and friendly service!

Yelp
Came here for the Luwei and was very disappointed. For those of you who don't know, Lu Wei means "braised taste" I am giving this a 1 star because they push this Luwei on the menu when it's just cold uncooked cabbage zucchini pork blood and fish cake drenched in sesame oil. As a Taiwanese I felt a bit angry after seeing this because there was not a single element of Lu Wei and that I paid $21 for this meal. Nothing was braised and there was no taste apart of sesame oil. This place does offer a free drink for review. Don't get deceived!!

Yelp
Hoja Bubble tea and Asian Street food serves authentic Taiwanese simple meals and snacks that honestly you can only find in Taiwan!!! And everything here I've tried has been "hoja", which is the Taiwanese word for "yummy". Having spent the first 18 years of my life in Taiwan, this place serves food that reminds me of home. Some of the food here (like the Taiwanese sausage wrapped in glutinous rice roll) I have never EVER eaten outside of Taiwan, and didn't even know it existed outside of Taiwan (unless it's made by some Taiwanese auntie in their home, in which case you won't get to eat it unless they invite you over and happen to make that dish). I was so delighted to see it on the menu that just I had to order it. Other dishes like the Taiwanese lwu Wei (braised meat and veggies in soy sauce) is comfort food and it's such a treat to be able to enjoy it without having to make it yourself. My husband and son both love the pork sun danbing, so we've gotten it (or a variation of it) every time we visit. The Danbing is humongous compared to its Taiwanese counterpart. I would say at least twice, if not three times size of the ones you'll find in Taiwan. I guess that part is not very authentic, but no complaints there. Unfortunately I have yet to try their bubble tea drinks or any of their desserts because I'm too excited trying their snacks and meals that I have no room for anything else. For anyone who would love to experience legit Taiwanese food without having to fly there, hoja is your best bet. Highly recommend!

Yelp
So good!! Very authentic Taiwanese food. They also have board games which makes it fun to stay and eat. Service was friendly
google avatar

Yelp
Tea eggs were very good Very solid and simple cafe. The prices are very cheap. The tea is super simple but with the cheap price its super worth it.
google avatar

Xuemeng S.

Yelp
The ambiance was cozy and the staff were friendly. I tried the classic milk tea with tapioca pearls, which was perfectly balanced and delicious. The mango green tea was refreshing too. They offer many customization options and the service was quick. Highly recommend for any bubble tea lover!

Yelp
Food: 4/5 Drinks: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Price: $ Really great pricing and food! We tried the (K1) crispy chicken and (K8) crispy king oyster mushroom for snacks. They had the same flavor and similar textures (with the mushroom one being more tender for the fry and ingredient itself). The seasoning was a bit salty, but it was even more refreshing when we sipped our drinks. I forgot my friend's drink name, but mine was (A1) Jumbo Fresh Made Mix Fruit Tea. It was delicious! Lots of fresh fruit. Good service and amount of seating space. A good casual hangout spot.
google avatar

Maggie C.

Yelp
Nice place, board games to borrow, free wifi. Also nice selection of hot snacks. Convenient location!
google avatar

Melody C.

Yelp
The fried chicken is always extremely crispy and drinks are handmade. I've had their oreo and red bean frappaccino and you can tell that they blended oreos and red bean in it. I highly recommend their fresh milk taro. It's made from them cooking down taro so it's not artificially sweetened or flavored. Sometimes you'll get small taro chunks in them. I've never been disappointed with any of the drinks because I can tell that it's they don't use artificial flavoring.

Yelp
You definitely have to stop by Hoja on Wednesday because they have an all day happy hour where all the drinks are $3.90. During the 3rd trimester of my pregnancy, I may or may not have been there every Wednesday ordering my Brown Sugar Jumble Tea...mmm... In terms of food, it is definitely snack food. At first glance, the prices seem so cheap but it is because the portions are more on the snack size side. The foods that I've tried: the Crispy Chicken Rice Box (It is not like pictured with a whole egg and corn. Instead, it only came with half an egg and broccoli, which is fine, but I wish we were given a heads up about the changes), Orange Crispy Chicken Bento (basically the crispy chicken with sauce), Crispy Pork Chop Rice Bento (My dad did not like how it was an entire pork chop and was only given a plastic knife so it was impossible to cut), and the Taiwanese Cold Noodle with Chicken (the favorite of all the dishes). The food all had good flavor and was enjoyable. Again, my only complaint is that substitutions were not addressed during ordering. The portions are also on the smaller side, or perhaps the more accurate side and I am just accustomed to over-sized portions. Definitely give Hoja a try!

Yelp
Best Taiwan food and drink in town!!! Don't miss this place in heart of Plano. Make sure you check out the drum menu for variety of drinks and bobble teas

Tracy Y.

Yelp
Good food, good service! You can Taiwanese food here with the rice box! Minced pork rice offers a delightful blend of savory and slightly sweet flavors, with tender, well-seasoned meat. Braised dishes add depth, featuring rich, flavorful items like eggs, tofu, and meats. Together, they highlight the best of Taiwanese cuisine.
google avatar

Jing W.

Yelp
Great services and best environment, not crowded at all. And we are ordering more food like sausages, pretty great!!
google avatar

Esther L.

Yelp
Yum yum food Def worth the drive to Plano! We ordered braided pork rice & chicken!
google avatar

Cindy P.

Yelp
Cute little cafe with authentic Taiwanese food. We tried the Luwei and Sausage with sticky rice, which is really hard to find in Texas! If you're from Taiwan and you're a little homesick, this is the place for you!!
google avatar

Elaine K.

Yelp
Ho Ja offers the finest crispy chicken steak, boosting juiciness, exceptional flavor and an extra-large size.

Amber H.

Yelp
Great ambiance w a bunch of cute boba squishes:) friendly service, authentic taiwanese food and wallet friendly price - what more could you ask for
google avatar

Xihao W.

Yelp
Very delicious food and nice environment! Highly recommend G-Pai, beyond expectation!
google avatar

Hyun P.

Yelp
Casual Taiwanese and street food, very affordable as you can get the drinks with your food as a combo. You order at the counter and come get your food when they call your number. They have a lot of drinks and food options so it took us awhile to look through the menu. Their bobas soft and drinks were good. I wish they open a location in Arlington, I would come here pretty frequently.
google avatar

Justin L.

Yelp
This was our second time here. Would recommend the Bawan and the fried chicken chop (the Gpie)

Fari S.

Yelp
Quick service, solid drinks, but stars of this place is the food. Signature chicken and plum spice sweet potato fries are consistently good.
google avatar

Irene Tsun-Ai L.

Yelp
if you're looking for a cozy spot and a bit of Taiwan, this is your place! Overall, the food is on a sweeter side. I'd recommend their G pie the most!
google avatar

Peiyu L.

Yelp
Nice authentic Taiwanese food. Good menu item choices. Relaxed ambience. Friendly price. We ordered their frozen food delivered to our city before and had a nice experience. This time when we visited Dallas of course we gotta check it out. During Sunday lunch hours the wait time to get our food is reasonable. But with only two staff working at the front they seemed a bit understaffed. We can see they were doing their best. Everything we ordered were tasty and nicely presented. We would definitely come back and recommend it to our friends who's seeking Taiwanese food.

OnDat T.

Yelp
Amazing place, with an extensive menu! Feels like Taiwan...and came with our work team and had a blast. Thai Tea and Crispy Chicken...perfect combo!
google avatar

Roma B.

Yelp
Came by on a Wednesday and found out they have happy hour all day. $3.90 for all bubble tea including boba. Got the taro milk tea (1/2 ice, 1/2 sugar) and thai milk tea. Both were delicious! Just the right amount the sweetness, very light and refreshing. The boba was fresh too, loved the texture of it.
google avatar

Jordan T.

Yelp
Tea. I like tea it is good the people here are very attractive. Very great service. I love boba tea baby. Oh yeah come here for the best boba tea.
google avatar

Wenyue T.

Yelp
The food is so good, and they still have some quite thing to sell. If you love crispy chicken please try their new food [ G-pie] Yummy~
google avatar

Maserati C.

Yelp
this was somewhere ive been wanting to try for awhile. this is a boba shop with taiwanese snacks. the boba is below average. not much flavour in the tea or boba. they did have some unique choices for beverages though. the food was not great either. i rlly wish it was good, bc i know a lot of ppl hype it up. also be aware that if u want to study here the charging ports usually dont work.
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
Came in on a Friday early evening and there 2 others waiting for their orders, pretty empty! Staff was friendly. We got their fried chicken, taiwanese sausage wrapped in sticky rice (大腸包小腸), egg omelette, and jasmine milk tea! The fried chicken was our favorite - it's not popcorn chicken, but cut up fried chicken (炸雞排). Super crispy and flavorful. The sausage wrapped in sticky rice was very authentic and delicious. Loaded with garlic and pickled veggies! The egg omelette wasn't very authentic but not sure if it was meant to be. Not bad though. Milk tea was not bad but not enough tea flavor for my taste! While the egg omelette wasn't what we expected I'd return for the other 2 items - they're hard to come by!
google avatar

Joyce C.

Yelp
One of our family-favorites! We like to order extra minced pork over rice to pack for lunch the next day.
google avatar

Yisha W.

Yelp
The chicken is amazing! Deep fried and crispy, will definitely be back for it again! Just the service might be a bit slow, the day we went there was only one person working and serving the whole store, we waited 30mins to get all our food... but overall the food is great, wait time is worth it for me!
google avatar

Wilson C.

Yelp
Pineapple drink is recommended. Especially during this hot summer. If you ever come to Dallas area, worth to come.
google avatar

James Z.

Yelp
Increasing rating to 5 after trying more of the food. The street food selections are very good with some authentic options. Pork intestine noodle soup has a strong organ flavor if you are into that. Sausage in sticky rice is a classic street food and the flavor was good though the portion was small. The sesame noodles with chicken were also really good with homemade sesame sauce. Very refreshing. The drinks are always made fresh and have strong tea flavor.
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
We have been here couple times and their G-Pie (fried chicken breast) is just awesome. Let us remember that the taste of Taiwan. Furthermore, the boba milk tea is just good for desert-We will recommend this place for whoever visiting Dallas/Plano area.

Cee E.

Yelp
Great food and boba! Their chicken is delicious and juicy. Boba is soft and chewy. Will definite be returning back!

Grace K.

Yelp
Super friendly service and the drinks are delicious! I got the thai tea and it was definitely worth the price.

Yu C.

Yelp
The staffs are very friendly and hard working. They kept the store/ restaurant very clean. We came all the way from Houston for the foods, so their foods must be GREAT! We also ordered lots of foods for late night snack. We will order frozen foods for sure.

Yelp
The services rendered impart a delectable flavor in terms of saptncil3. I'm extremely pleased with the place. Absolutely the best. It's why they're the top restaurant in Plano. Great stuff!!
