Hoki Korean BBQ & Japanese Cuisine

I've been eating Korean barbecue my entire life and this is the first time that I've been somewhere like this so if you've never had Korean barbecue before I would not consider this place to be authentic. We got one sauce for the table I asked for another one and they tried to upcharge me for it and they explained I was supposed to slather on the sauce onto the meat and that it was one sauce per table. It was quite warm in here they had a swamp cooler I don't know if there was no air conditioning but I was sweating the entire time. The meat does not come marinated and maybe it's my own fault for having really high expectations for what this place could be but it definitely was not your normal Korean barbecue.

It was my first time eating sushi from your restaurant. It was really good,I really like this restaurant. The food is fresh, tastes good, sushi rolls are tasty, the restaurant is clean, the staff are friendly. I'll definitely visit here often.

My experience here was alright. I liked the sides I got with my food like the seaweed, marinated daikon radish and Kim chi I thought they were nice touches to my meal. I ordered the $25 meal A from their menu. The meat looked very different from traditional Korean bbq places I have been and were (in my opinion) very cheap replacements that weren't all that good. Like the thing sliced pork. Which was basically thick sliced bacon. Not very thing at all. The only thing I enjoyed a lot was the chicken. The beef was very hard to enjoy and it was very chewy. I liked the vegetables that the meal came with like Eggplant, zucchini and onions. Those are always very nice. But all in all, this is not very worth the money. I also enjoyed the sushi I got, I dont really remember the name unfortunately. But it was pretty good. I should clarify that I paid about 100 bucks for my meal. The $25 A meals are for one person each. So I ordered the sushi roll, shrimp tempura and the two $25 A meals. Kinda pricey for what I could have gotten more for. Not really worth in my honest opinion.

Visited this place multiple times never really had an issue til this visit. We ordered a seafood pancake. I specifically asked what was in seafood pancake and the waitress said just prawns. When I got the pancake there was a bunch of other stuff. When my fiance let the waitress know she said that she didn’t know there was more than just shrimp. She took it back no problem. Then the manager comes to me and tell us that the seafood pancake comes with everything and that it’s not their responsibility that we didn’t know that it was full of different seafood. I told her her that I asked the waitress what was in it and she said there was just shrimp in and she completely disregarded that I said that and just kept saying that it’s our responsibility to know. Like please make that make sense I literally asked what it contained. Took everything in me not to start going off but the lady had an attitude the rest of the time. I love the food her but the customer service was terrible why come and try to check a customer for something the waitress should know 🤦🏽‍♀️ I asked she said just shrimp so I took her word for it. I definitely won’t be coming back just off this experience. Please teach your servers what’s on the menu before trying to check a customer for something they should know. And learn to address a customer as well.

Came here with my buddy and was pleasantly surprised. Got the pork ramen and it was delicious. The waitress was so nice and the bill was a lot less than I expected. Will definitely come back with friends.

Had a great experience with the food and staff. They had tables that offered an open BBQ but we opted to just order off the menu and save that experience for next time. Food was delicious. Sushi made at the bar across from our table. My mom and husband really enjoyed them and promised to return to try more. I had chicken bulgogi. It was cooked perfectly and I loved the garlic added to the fresh veggies. Bottom line...if you're looking for something new, this place is worth your time. Can't wait to go back!

Lunch with 2 of my sisters. Finally, a Korean BBQ in Modesto. Ordered Gyoza and Egg rolls for the appetizer. Dinner B at $28 per person. Proteins were on point. Veggies fresh. Sauces paired well with everything. Our server was great.

Delicious!! All our food were beautifully presented and everything was very yummy, including a vegetarian roll. Sashimi was fresh and the lady with the red hair was a great host! Highly recommended!!

Came in with a group of friends not realizing they were only an hour from closing. I work in food service, so I know how tough that can be, especially with a big group. Still, the staff was super kind and welcoming, no rush, no attitude, just great service. The food was delicious, and the whole experience was genuinely positive. Definitely planning to come back!

I travel across the U.S. for work and always enjoy some nice Korean BBQ. This is NOT the Korean BBQ experience I was expecting expecting. Instead of buffet style you pay by the plate. Their grills hardly work and will take forever to cook anything. The ever attentive gracious wait staff warn you about this and suggest you let the kitchen cook it.. It takes away from the feeling that you get from traditional all you can eat, cook it yourself Korean bbq.. Not worth the price or the experience in my opinion. This is not a staff issue(who were very kind and attentive). It's a management and owner issue. You're not setting your staff up for success.

This was an interesting experience. It was nothing like any real Korean BBQ I've been to. They brought out 3 Banchan - kimchi, pickled radish, and what I think was kelp that's it and tiny portions. The meat had no visible marinade on any of it (I'm used to being able to see the marinade coating the meat). There was no lettuce brought to eat the BBQ with. I asked for lettuce and they looked at me confused. I've been to real Korean BBQ probably 50+ times so am familiar with what it is - this was not that. They only provided one set of tongs and one brush to apply the marinade which was pretty awful because one of the meats we chose was chicken and since there was only 1 of each (tongs and brush) we had to touch cooked meat with tongs and a brush that had been used on raw chicken. Etc. So if you're looking for authentic Korean BBQ, this isn't that. But, it was okay in a pinch - just ask for a second set of tongs and a brush.

Haven't eaten here in a while, yet came on Friday 8-15-25, ordered off an old menu. Believing what I was looking at was what I would ger, (Correct) picture tells everything: Yet was brought something all together different, a grotesque $18 roll of nasty, Told waiter, why it wasn't a Marvel as photo showed, he said ("It was' only different ingredient now, they look different.") Absolutely garbage, a lie. Then my wife had the teriyaki chicken grill, tasty flavor, yet after eating it, a bit, noticed a raw piece of chicken uncooked in the cheap choice of meat used to grill (the thigh meat.) another mistake, I WILL NEVER RETURN HERE AGAIN. The owner was there and notified of the situation, her careless response was, to bad Sweetie, you came. In other words pay up to bad. Terrible customer service, the place is falling apart ethically, bad service

The hostess (Red) is always very friendly & personable. The food is Top-Notch! Drinks are also very good. Ask Red about her Saki-Bomb. You won't be disappointed. The restaurant is large & accommodating for parties. The atmosphere is very nice, great place to bring a date. I encourage everyone to check it out.

I've only been once but it was a pleasure. Not too busy attentive staff.i wish I could remember now what I ordered...we had a few rolls but one with smoked salmon was frigging AMAZING!! I hope they keep that because I'd order that over and over again!

As someone from San Francisco, I went out of my way to try Hoki Korean BBQ and Japanese Cuisine, and it was worth every mile. My dad's last picture was taken here, making this visit deeply personal--and I was not disappointed. The food was **phenomenal**. The meat was perfectly marinated and grilled, bursting with flavor, and the fish used were fresh and delicious, and so is the rolls (Lion King and Spider). The portions were generous, and the prices were incredibly reasonable for the quality. The service was exceptional--attentive, friendly, and welcoming. The staff and owner made us feel at home, adding to the warmth of the experience. Hoki Korean BBQ and Japanese Cuisine is more than a restaurant; it's a place where memories are made. Whether you're honoring a loved one or simply craving amazing Korean BBQ, this place delivers. We'll definitely be back.

We've never been disappointed when we come here always greeted by friendly staff and seated right away . Annie the owner took our drink orders right away we asked her to surprise us with her own concoction and both drinks were delicious. We all ordered different sushi rolls and got their calamari appetizer and scallop honey walnut appetizer. Everything tasted really good will be back again soon .

They get 5 Stars for SERVICE! Their team saved the birthday dinner! It's it an inexpensive option? NO- but it's not unreasonable either. We had dinner for 4- had called ahead to reserve a grill table- which worked out very well. We also substituted some items, which comes at an added cost (clearly says on the menu). Also, there was waaay more food than we could eat- they brought half of it to the back to finish cooking it for us to take as leftovers. I got to say, I LOVE the teamwork! Everyone pitched in to cover drinks, bringing items, clearing items, etc. On a side note, the restaurant was VERY clean as were the bathrooms. When we left and I thanked them for saving my husband's birthday, he was given a gift and they were shocked we didn't say anything earlier.

This place has good ratings and I think it might be mainly because of the Japanese food. This review is for the Korean BBQ experience. I want to make sure people know before they come here: 1. They put foil over the grill so they don't have to change them and therefore the flame doesn't touch the meat. You lose that signature kobo flavor. 2. They charge $1 for more sauce which I think is just insane and greedy 3. They charge $5 for lettuce.. I'm beside myself 4. They give you 3 bonchon sides in a plastic container.. they only give you about a table spoon of kimchi.. if that... and then they have the nerve to charge for refill on kimchi... 5. $15 for assorted veggies snd $10 for basically one portobello mushroom cap cut into pieces. Bottom line is that they nickel and dime you for all of the things you would normally get a kobo for free. My wife and I ordered 1 order of Kalbi, veggies, and mushrooms, 2 sides of rice and lettuce for $98!!! Even though it's the only kobo in the area, it's. It worth it, go to Stockton.

One of my favorite locations to "be different and do different!" The energy of all things food and drink make go crazy my taste buds! I'm never giving this place up!!!!

Had the lamb and it was great. Well seasoned and cooked just right. Service was very good and our glasses were never less than half full. The ambiance is very cool and inviting.

Food is rubbery and cold. Waiters are rude and they didnt explain the menu well we paid 200 dollars for cheap quality food and $25 dollar service charge they didnt even help pack the food. Do no eat here unless u want expensive poor quality food

Came across this Korean bbq place last week and I was so excited to try it. It is a Korean bbq restaurant with sushi as well. We chose to order Korean bbq and have it cooked rather than cook it ourself. The place was empty which must've been a sign... For $28 per person there was an assortment of meats, some vegetables and a few Korean side dishes. The side dishes were not the typical ones u get when ordering Korean food. There were only three ... kimchee, seaweed and pickled daikon. The meats included bulgogi, sausage, pork belly, and squid. The meat was not tender, hard to chew and fatty. There was no flavor to the beef...my husband and I both had to spit pieces of the meat out because there was too much fat. It was definitely not your typical Korean restaurant . Almost $80 later....we left disappointed and still hungry. I would not recommend or return to this restaurant.

I went here completely out of the blue with my family who are a lot less adventurous when it comes to food. Short story short We loved it the food the people the service was all amazing definitely go here you wont regret it. The hostess greeted us very warmly quickly explained they are not ACE and how the family package works and then sat us. Our server arrived quickly took our drink order answered some menu questions and started preheating the grill, we ordered the family package and had more then enough great portions for the price here, the server brought everything quickly the meat looked and tasted fresh and delicate very buttery pork belly. We had one momentarily misshap where Someone stepped on the cord and unplugged the grill but the server was on top of it he recognized it right away before us and fixed it. I will come here again with my family, I will come here by myself and I will definitely tell people about this place. If you want a relaxed environment, delicious rolls and fresh meats you will not regret patronizing this establishment.

I have been wanting to come in and try this place for some time now and boy was I so disappointed in this experience. My first sign I shouldn't have eaten here was waiting a bit before anyone even acknowledged I was there. I wasn't expecting to be taken to a table right away but just a little "I will be right with you" would have sufficed. Especially when there were some workers just standing around and didn't say anything and saw my group standing there. Now into the experience of the Korean BBQ. When our server brought out the sides you get before your meat comes out we're in deli containers. DELI CONTAINERS I honestly couldn't help but laugh. We are dining in and you are using to go containers to serve sides. Anyways my group and I have eaten at many Korean BBQ spots before and I will say the portions and the food was great. It is not all you can eat but you do get enough protein for your group to all leave filled. We had to get a to go box because we had so much food. During our meal of cooking and eating we didn't have anything on the grill as we were trying to peel our shrimp and were about to put some meat on when the manager came by and asked if we have done this before and basically say that we need to have meat on the grill. She made us feel belittled and was not nice what so ever. I would have felt bad if this was my first experience being told in the way we were. Then later on our server came over and asked if we wanted our chicken cooked in the back since it takes awhile. My group and I looked at each other in awe of the disrespect. We came to have the experience of cooking our own food and then to have people tell us we weren't doing it right and taking too long was appalling. Mind you I could understand rushing customers if it was busy and a lot of people were waiting but it was not packed at all. Plenty of booths available for others for Korean BBQ. Also we weren't there for longer an hour and a half. If you are planning on coming here for Korean BBQ I would recommend you pick someplace else. If you have been here before for Korean BBQ and didn't have a good experience definitely try another place because honestly anywhere else would be way more fun and a better experience.

Such a great Korean BBQ spot in the heart of Modesto owned by the sweetest woman. We frequent this location pretty often & have always had a great experience. Definitely check it out!

We are from the SF Bay Area and had a hard time finding a good Sushi restaurant out here. Hoki is one of our favorites now. I have not done the Korean BBQ where you cook your food at the table, but their Sushi is fresh and their rolls are amazing. I highly recommend them for Sushi, Selection, and Service!

Let me just say this is probably one of my favorite places to eat at. This place is so delicious and welcoming, the service here is so nice and really do a great job. A plus as well was a clean bathroom, the bar had a very welcoming bartender and amazing music. Overall I would highly highly recommend to anyone that's looking for delicious savory food.

It's simple the best!!! They truly check all the boxes and more. Excellent service, excellent and so yummy food, super clean and very filling portions of food. Definitely will make multiple visits IS. Thank you sooo much for the great food and service. We ordered multiple dishes, all are so good and super yummy, and cooked to perfection I wish if I remember to take earlier photos before I started this. Couldn't resist the smell and the look. Their Kal Bi and Sushi is addicting Highly recommend it.

I got the egg rolls, seaweed salad, jalapeno poppers and squid as an appetizer and it was all very good. Customer service was great. I got to try to be my own chef with their diy tables. Sadly in our table, only half of the grill was hot, and for four of us, the meat cooked too slow and I felt the heat needed to be upped more. With that said, our server did bring some of the meat already cooked which was awesome. The pork was the most memorable meat and the shrimp was the least. I did get to try the sushi and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was . With that said I would definitely come back!

If I can add a couple more stars I totally would! As long time friends, us 4 ladies go out for our birthdays and try new places or one of our favorites. This was by far the best birthday dinner we've had! The friendly waitress Annie (red short hair) was absolutely amazing! Customer service was a 10+++! The food was amazing also! The birthday girl even left with a special present! If you haven't been here you are definitely missing out!

Meat was really low quality and made us sick. Service was slow but ok. Sushi was not horrible but not very good either. Overall I wouldn't go back. I was surprised since they have decent reviews. Just not worth the money you spend there. Also, they should warn people, especially first timers that the food can pop when cooking it. A piece of fat or meat popped and hit my daughter burning her. She was not too close either. She sat in her seat and it flew in her face. Not their fault at all but maybe a warning for people to just be careful.

2 stars because the service was great.. The disappointing thing is not being able to chose your chose or pick your choice of meats for the for KBBQ. Dinner A had a sad list of options so we weren't interested so we picked dinner B because it had 3 of the meat cuts we had but it came with raw squid, ewe, and some asian peppers as part of the 5 choices?? They should have "list" and you should be able to pick your 5 YOU would like a snot what's cheaper for the restaurant, definitely was not worth the $70, lol.. Elk Grove has Gogi Korean Bbq & Hot Pot and that is probably the closest to a better experience and worth the hour drive!!

If it weren't for the bidet I'd be leaving a one star review, but because God is merciful I figured I should be too! Food should be free considering it's a necessity so that's a crime in itself, but over charging for food is a scandal; which is what Hoki did. I know it's 2024 but including an automatic tip is ridiculous especially if we have to cook the food ourselves. I thought we settled this during the Boston Tea Party! Not to mention the food wasn't even that good. Be weary if you order Dinner A or B and want to swap an item out you'll be charged a full meal for it rather than a free substitution. None the less the service was great and the servers were attentive and the setting was nice, but I felt almost ridiculed for not knowing what I wanted to order.

This is the worst place ever. Terrible grade sushi and ramen smelled like dishwater. Disgusting. Cheap.

Service was slow, understandable because there was only a three severs but took 10-15 minutes to get our drinks, then another 10-15 minutes to place our order. Portion size of the cuts of meat for the KBBQ section was a lot, but the marinade and cuts were bland. Sides were not enough for the amount of people and everything costs extra (extra sides after 2 rounds, rice, sauce, salt etc...) which is something my group wasn't particularly used to. It seems to that the sushi side of the restaurant is a better experience than the KBBQ side as my friends who opted for sushi had a better experience.

We celebrated my family members birthday here, the service was exceptional. This restaurant accommodated a party of 20+ people on Father's Day and kept it pushing!!! Food was great! I wish they would offer a SUPER spicy option! Maybe next time.

Definitely not worth it. I understand this is a different environment... slow pace/ slow staff (considering they aren't busy or an all you can eat place). Took about 5min to be greeted to be advise to sit (while host/waiter seat and take order from 1-2 other table. Then after 5-7 min says Hi and if we are doing KBBQ, only to sit back down and wait for table (which there was many). Few more min while he took order and brought food to other people, then we were seated. After sitting another 5-7min for someone to ask what Meal Plan we doing. The whole process was slow with 1-2 person working multiple table. Customer service wasn't great. Seem short staffed/ this is how the restaurant was ran because it wasn't an all you can eat resturant but for it be slower it, it didn't give the small personal business but the short staffed type business instead. 30min+ for any order or food to come out. Meat quality not worth it, can get better at an all you can eat and taste better as well. Similar restaurants like this (only meal plan and only those meat come out/ not all you can eat) like Dublin are worth it with better meat quality than this place.

The service was ok but I wish I had the review first. They are so overpriced it's absolutely ridiculous. They place foil over the grill and then wrap it in napkins so you don't splash. Well there's not enough to splash. The grill doesn't get hot enough so we ended up having to send to the back where they charge an extra price to cook. They also charge extra for every little thing . There was a teaspoon of sauce for 4 people a slice of butter that immediately stuck to the pan because it was aluminum foil. I felt like I was outside camping They also added a 23 dollar gratuity after they added to 6 dollars to use our card. I just don't know how they got so many stars. We ordered three appetizers and one was good. The other two were nasty. We also ordered two rolls. One was good. The other one was almost like tasted like canned tuna. They didn't however give my son a cute cat for his birthday so that was nice.

We were visiting my father in the hospital nearby. Felt like Asian food, this place popped up. Extremely friendly service, smiling faces, extremely clean restaurant. We had the awesome pork ramen dish which was huuuuuuuuuuge, awesome short ribs. Even my mom said she'd come back and she doesn't like anywhere, because she's a great cook, judges everything etc. Definitely coming back. Cheers!!! Thank you

My husband and I kinda crashed a birthday celebration. We didn't mean too, but that's how it came to be, to eat here. The food was delicious, from the fried tofu to the Korean barbecue and everything in between. It was delicious I can't say enough about this establishment and can't wait to go back. This time we will not crash anyone's celebration. The waiter was sweet and we even got really pretty calendars for the upcoming year.

This place has been my kids favorite place to eat for the past 3 years after moving to the Coffee Rd area. My sons love their calamari, and their Chicken Teriyaki dinner plates. Their sushi is amazing along with their baked clams. I hope this place stays for long.

This is my go to restaurant when in the area. You would think Santa Barbara would already have Vegan sushi. They don't. Instead this place in Modesto does. And it's so yummy!!!! I always get the vegan dynamite roll. But they have so many other vegan options. Highly recommend. Customer service 5/5 everyone is always so friendly. As soon as you walk through that door you are greater by more than one person. Clean 5/5 every table is cleaned and sanitized as soon as you are done eating. They still have hand sanitizer throughout the restaurant. Food 5/5 yummy!!!!! Need I say more! Go try them out.

I usually order sushi to-go from here and never been disappointed. I dined in for the Korean BBQ and it was different from what I'm used to. The meats are not marinated but there are sauces on the side for the meats. My brother loved it this way since he can control how much sauce will be on his meat but I prefer the meat already marinaded. Either way- the service, restaurant decor, and meal was great! We will be back!

They have THEE best customer service. The food is usually amazing but the 1-2 times I ordered delivery and one thing was left off they overcorrected and made everything very good. They also left me a cute sweet note on my order. I love how kind this business is.

Great parking good food chicken teriyaki was great really great spring rolls off the hook and if you like calamari it was also great restaurant was clean the table plenty of room for big boys like myself very comfortable setting only down fall the menu is difficult to read but other then that I'll come again and try cooking for my self as the have the grill in the table cool spot to drink and hang out

BONUS: she was also able to speak in mandarin fluently which was convenient for us! interior: has both normal seatings and a tables for BBQ. there's a bar in the center of the restaurant for anyone who's down for a drink! health and safety: mask required · staffs disinfect surfaces between visits would you crave for it? hmm not quite the sea steak salad was alright, a little bit too salty and the salad was soaked in sauce.. we ordered a kal bi and pork bul go gi and they were overly marinated and were sooo salty it's better to eat it plain without dipping it in the house sauce. the bu gol gi barely had any meat to it and were mostly just bones.. we even had to send it back... the lion king roll, marvel roll, and dragon roll were great! lion king roll was well-baked and the marvel roll had a refreshing taste, i really recommend trying this roll! the unagi in the dragon roll had pretty sharp bones which hurt my throat when i swallowed it.. if you're sensitive to unagi bones you might want to avoid this roll. we initially came for kbbq but because they were fully booked, we were only able to get our meat cooked by chefs. overall food presentation was okay, a very mediocre experience tips for improvement: it would be better if the meat were less marinated! we were really disappointed with how little meat there was in the kal bi, i suggest chefs to check the food presentations before sending them out!

2nd time coming here on Easter dinner, the food was overcooked and wasn't that great. Porkbelly was too thinly sliced and was burnt. The lion king roll barely had any salmon on it. The sushi rolls are so overpriced for what you get. I dont know what happened. The first time we went here, the food was good. Not sure what happened to the food quality.

Price is fair. Customer service is pretty good. Food quality is good. It's not ayce but the amount of food they gives you is plenty. I also had the giant squid and lion king, there both really tasty.

If you want delicious sushi and Korean BBQ this is the spot to go to! Everyone is so nice and attentive! Drinks are tasty and the Hoki bomb is so fun and tasty! The beef fried rice is the best I've had! The kalbi ribs dinner plate is so filling and tasty. It's large enough for 2 people to share! I have not had the opportunity to enjoy the Korean BBQ experience but it's definitely something I'll be trying soon! The owner is very attentive and is always working either behind the bar or waiting on tables. They have a nice party/banquet room that is great for work parties, baby showers, etc!

Legit we have had every sushi place In Modesto and this place always wins hands down! The service is amazing and they make it fun to sit at the bar! We go here once a week and even when we try other places we still come right back.

Everything from the food, to the ambience, to the service was immaculate. Our server was Annie and she was so kind, helpful, and attentive. The food was scrumptious as well, I couldn't get enough. You get a fantastic value for your money and you definitely won't leave hungry. If I could give a million stars I would. We will definitely make this a regular spot for our date nights!
