Holdren's Steaks & Seafood

Holdren's serves the best salmon with tropical fruit medley with mashed potatoes. It just has a great blend of flavors. My husband chose filet medallions with the twice baked potato. When the meals arrived we decided to split both so we could enjoy both types of food. DELICIOUS 😋 The perfect ending to celebrate our anniversary was the cheesecake that just melted in our mouths. Great service and ambiance too!!

Good food! The ahi was delicious! The ribeye was good, just slightly over what I wanted. The lemon tart has great flavor, but the crust was very soggy. All in all, it was a good meal. I just expected a bit more attention to details as well as better service.

I’ve eaten here a few times. I really love the chicken dishes but this time I tried the beef bourguignon. It was very delicious. My friend got the seafood pasta. The wine was also good. It’s a steak house so it’s expensive but definitely worth it. . . . Update- went back and again enjoyed myself. Hate to say it but i now feel the prices are just way to crazy for what you get. They don’t give you complimentary bread anymore either. They charge $3 for a “small basket” and $6 for a large. It’s a steak house- we pay a ton of money, the least they could do is give free bread? Additionally, we sat outside and the tables and chairs they have in certain areas are plastic and flimsy. I ended up getting the special which was filet mignon with a truffle sauce. To be honest the regular sauce they served was better. It also came with a special potato dish that tasted the exact same as their garlic mashed potatoes. Nonetheless the dishes are always served beautifully. We got the caprese to start and my dad got the rib eye and friend got the salmon which he very much enjoyed.

Food, service, everything was amazing. I don’t particularly like going out to eat nowadays but I would definitely come back here again.

I was here for a company holiday party and will definitely visit again for when I'm in the Thousand Oaks area. Wonderful service and delicious nibbles and drinks (especially the drinks - very well made). I ended up getting some coconut shrimp to-go.. so yummy. I look forward to a happy hour here. Thank you for the wonderful service and food/drinks!

I really wanted to love this place cause it’s so local and we like to go out often. Was recommended by a friend. -Food ordered the New York Strip medium. Came out medium well, which is fine. The quality though. It was like just a cut above Albertsons quality. Did not have a good seer on it. Mash potatoes were decent. Wife ordered the Filet and she liked it. She loved the buttered mushrooms. -Atmosphere Good. -Service Good and attentive. Unfortunately, I have to give this restaurant a one star because my wife got food poisoning, and was up all night sick. For over $200, truly not worth it. Yea

We went for the four course meal on Valentine’s Day. Food was delicious, dessert even better! We’ll be going back to try food from the regular menu.

Went there for happy hour yesterday and had the cheeseburger for $16. It was delicious. Met some new friends there. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Overall great experience! Definitely will be back for some juicy steaks.

Always the go to especially if you enjoy dining on the bar seats. Exceptional food and service ! Ryan and Charles are always on point for cocktail suggestions.. Come early if you want a seat on the counter!

Stopped by on Wednesday for their Prime Rib special. Who dosent love prime rib right? A few co workers and I were staying at the courtyard next door and we noticed the resteraunt and it looked super nice so we thought why not try it! Very nice resteraunt, white table cloth service. Bar on site. Our server was kind and friendly. We got in around 6pm for dinner and they were down to their last 3 prime rib slices and I got to order one of these. For $50 bucks the portion is decent. Came with your cut and a side and I choose a baked potato which was ok, nothing special. The prime rib lacked flavor. Very plain, nothing special about it. Nice cut of meat though. Considering the price though I would think it would be a bit more memorable. My coworkers and I all seemed to be of the same opinion after eating here. Worth checking out if your in the area, I would probably just stay clear of the prime rib and try something else. Thanks Holdrens for the dinner and good hospitality!

Nice and clean restaurant. The service was a little slow, seem they were understaffed for the day. The food was really good, as expected for a good steakhouse

Fabulous apps, sides and steaks. Our party sampled the cowboy steak, the New York Strip special, lamb lollipops, grilled & coconut shrimp, scallops, a burger, Caesar salad, asparagus, creamed spinach, the peanut butter pie, and the cheesecake. Salads and desserts not great. Leisurely but friendly service. Loved the red room atmosphere for a party. We are steak snobs, and Holdren's is among the best. Wish the greens and sugars were also up to snuff. A great restaurant needs to be able to tantalize the vegetarian as well as please the sweet tooth. Overall, 4 out of 5. Skip the salad and dessert.

The service was excellent. I had a reservation asked to be seated outside. We sat outside, it was nice out. The sun was setting and there were heaters if we got cold the waitress was very helpful knowledgeable and provided good service. We got our food and it was perfect. It was a nice first time experience we split the steak with the garlicky smashed potatoes and extra side of Mac and cheese

The steak is good not excellent and service was good. The Santa Barbara location setting and ambience as well as the cooks are better and it should be as it is the original location. Price is high for what you get at this strip mall location for a steak house.

Just want to give another shout out to Holdrens for another awesome experience on our special day! The bone out 14 ounce New York steak was out of this world. The 8 ounce top sirloin was top notch! Our server Taylor was exceptional. She went out of her way for all kinds of requests. Bread was on time, drinks were on time, food was on time, she was on time!! Taylor, you're the best!! Really glad I came here for date night ! We Made a reservation for patio seating at 5PM which was perfect to watch the sunset and catch happy hour which was really nice ! Everything was excellent ! The steak and chicken were both perfectly cooked and had lots of flavor ! They use High quality ingredients that you can taste in the dishes, like the blue cheese crumbles !! I'm not a fan typically but the BC is fantastic in the salad and sauce I couldn't get enough

Though I can't speak for the food since we just sat at the bar for some evening cocktails, I can say our experience there was lovely. The drinks were delicious and the bartender was fun and friendly. The bar is gorgeous and we loved the ambiance of the restaurant. Would love to come back for dinner in the future!

My second favorite steakhouse in town after Mastro's. I always enjoy my usual ribeye steak with sautéed mushrooms. They also have a great happy hour deal that worth checking out!

Stopped by tonight for dinner on a Sunday with no reservation. The wait for a table was 1-2 hours, so we opted for seats at the bar. We were pleasantly surprised that we arrived just in time for happy hour, so we ordered a couple drinks and plates. The service was great even though it was clearly very busy, the bartender (Sherry/Sharon?) was attentive and kind. Food was prepared quickly and each dish was cooked to perfection. The filet mignon bites (not pictured) and burger were delightfully cooked exactly as we requested. Potato skins were crispy and came with ranch along with fresh pico de gallo. We decided to treat ourselves to the dessert sampler that consists of a decadent flourless chocolate cake, and "amazing" peanut butter pie, and fluffy cheesecake. This was our second time here. Last time we ordered the filet mignon and New York strip which each came with salad and a side. This is a great place for both happy hour or a formal dinner/nice date.

Have been coming here for years and decided to have a birthday dinner for my husband. The filet is always was excellent. The sauteed mushrooms not so much, almost look like they used Campbell's mushroom soup to prepare them. Suggest skipping it. Our service was not the best. Our friendly server brought the mushrooms almost after the dinner was done. Wedge salad excellent as usual. I had the baked sea bass with sauteed mushrooms, artichoke hearts. It was prepared very nicely and thank goodness the sauteed mushrooms we're prepared properly. I would order this again and I have in the past. The birthday complementary cheesecake was excellent! In summary, the inside dining room is extremely noisy and loud even with very few people dining. Over the years we can only figure out it has something to do with the Acoustics of the room and the high ceilings. The smaller room that they often rent out is quieter, but always seems to be booked. So that said, the only way we're coming back now is to sit outside on their patio when warm and frankly go there during their happy hour which I think starts at 5:00. Great prices and still offered the full menu, quieter and much more pleasant.

phenomenal steakhouse! The steaks were cooked to perfection--tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The sides and appetizers were just as impressive, and the service was top-notch, with attentive and knowledgeable staff. Very nice place for a date night or just a good upscale dinner. Inside has dim lighting and wasn't too loud so you could easily have a conversation with your group. Drinks were good. $17 for an old fashioned is steep but it was a good old fashioned! Also a huge wine list. Food was great. The steak plates come with a soup or salad and a side. The lobster bisque was very good, could use more chunks of lobster though. The Beef Wellington and filet were also great but undercooked. Service was okay. Could have been more friendly. I really don't like feeling like a bother to the waiter when at a restaurant. And from ordering to receiving food the pace was slower than desired. Certainly not bad but also not 5 star worthy. Definitely recommend and I'll be back!

I made anniversary reservations for this steakhouse. We were sat at our table 5 minutes before our reservation time. Hostess said someone would be right with us. A man came and gave us water. 25 minutes later, still nobody. We got up and walked out. My husband and I couldn't believe we weren't acknowledged at all. We just sat there waiting We had never been there before and wanted to try something new!! Never again!!! The manager called about 8 minutes after we left. He asked us to come back and offered to buy us dinner but we declined. He apologized. I hate even saying this, but this is how we feel. We are a mixed couple(black/white) and we both felt like we were not acknowledged because of this! Nothing concrete, just the vibe!

Celebrated our 8 year anniversary at Holdren's, it was our first time at this amazing restaurant. The staff was so friendly, helpful and went above and beyond. The food was so delicious, big portions and not overpriced like most steak houses. We can't wait to go nab there again and try the rest of the menu... and the drinks!!

We splurged and went here for our anniversary mid week (30 years!). The hostess was super nice. The service was very slow. It looked like two waitresses managing the entire restaurant which was packed for a mid week. I had to ask 3 times for sugar for my iced tea and finally the runner who brought our food brought me some sugar with my meal. We never received any bread at our table. The prime rib was meh. It was tough piece of meat, not juicy or marbled. I ordered medium rare and it was def med/well. My husband's meal was much better- shrimp and roasted Brussels sprouts. We shared a trio of dessert. Which was good but was obviously not made from scratch. We had high hopes for this place as we landed here for the evening due by accident to our other reservations at another steak house got cancelled last minute (probably due to a holiday party). We asked social media and everyone raved about this place. Like others have said in previous reviews it was very loud in there and dark.

I ate here with my boyfriend and we enjoyed the food and setting a lot! The waiters and waitresses were super nice, and the food was really good! They do try to upsell you a bit but that's expected with every steakhouse and fine dining place like this.

Holdren's has the best happy hour around (4:00-6:00 every day, even on the weekends!!) and is such an amazing place for dinner too! Ryan is the best bartender ever, and Amanda is the hostess with the mostest! The food here is delicious, the service is extraordinary, the place is always immaculate, and it's such a great atmosphere. Best restaurant in Ventura County, hands down!!

Holdren's has a great menu and good drink selection. The servers are pro and totally present. The bar is spacious and hip (can I say that?) A comfortable atmosphere where mealtime conversation is possible.. A good neighborhood eatery. 100%

Great little steakhouse with laid back vibe and patio seating. While on my way back recently from Ventura to the valley I thought I'd stop by my old stomping grounds of Newbury Park / thousand oaks and grab a bite since I was hungry. A family member who still lives in the area recommended Holdren's because it was one of their favorite places and she knew how much I like steaks. Upon walking in I like what I saw, a newer take on a traditional steakhouse vibe. Decided to sit at the bar have a couple drinks and order dinner. I started with a dirty kettle martini and ordered the cowboy ribeye medium with scalloped potatoes and a Caesar salad. The Martini was pretty much perfect as I've been to other places where this drink can be easily botched by the addition of too much or an inferior olive juice. The rib eye was cooked correctly I'd say the quality of the meat was good definitely worth the price point . The scalloped potatoes and Caesar's salad we're also very good. I'd say the best part of this meal was the service. The bartender was friendly and attentive on every aspect of both the drinks and dinner always asking if I needed anything else. If I had to knock off a star it'd probably be for the dessert I had the peanut butter pie which tasted good but was extremely firm and tough to cut through not sure if that's the way it was supposed to be. Overall I would return here because I like the vibe here and the service and food was very good. Definitely a good value for this price point in a steakhouse.

What an amazing place. We came here for our Anniversary dinner it did not disappoint! We had scallops for our appetizer so wonderful, soup next tomato' basil and cream of mushroom yum. I ordered beef Wellington it was on my bucket list! So delicious! Mushroom and steak cooked to perfection! It was a pretty fancy dinner for us and way under what we excepted to pay. We've been coming to this location many times over the years and it's a solid steak house for the neighborhood. Everytime I'm here, their service and food is perfect. My party and I came in at 4:30pm to start off with happy hour drinks and appetizers last night. Then our table for our dinner reservation was on time for 5:30pm and we were able to put in our order. At this time, more and more people started to show up and it was full. The outdoor patio was also full so make sure to have a reservation or come early. My best friend got a free cheesecake because it was her birthday. One thing I didn't remember is that they charge $6 for bread. We also like to try a new dessert when we come. The previous chocolate flourless cake, lemon pie, and mud pie never disappointed us. This time we tried the peanut butter pie and it was delicious! Overall, it was a perfect night with seamless transitions, excellent service and good food.

If you know, you know, locals of Newbury Park and Thousand Oaks find this place to be a top fine dining dinner experience. We consistently come not only for just a late dinner and cocktails, but also important events like birthdays, anniversaries graduations. It's often enjoyable to bump into a neighbor friend as well we will continue to enjoy this wonderful little hidden treasure.

Was soo good coming back again tonight, spot on last night .my lady loves prime rim and its special tonight. It's kinda loud tho. Steak was perfect and so was the wedge & twice baked potatoes. Awesome people too.

Always good food and service here. We were immediately seated with our reservation and enjoyed some cocktails (French martini for me; Dirty martini for my SO). My spouse had the Beef Wellington with a wedge salad. I had the Caprese and coconut shrimp. Both tasted fantastic.

I had to leave another review because Holdren's is fantastic! We went for Happy Hour on a Friday night. FYI: The happy hour menu on their website is not the current happy hour menu that they have at the restaurant. We made reservations through Holdren's website, which is through Open Table. Happy hour is from 4-6pm and is for patio or bar only. We were promptly seated for our 5pm reservation. Since it was an early dinner, I think we would have been seated immediately without the reservation. The restaurant was getting busier closer to 6pm. We sat out on the patio and there was ample heaters to keep us warm. Our server, Jepte, was great! He was friendly and attentive. We ordered the following items from the happy hour menu: - Blackberry Old fashioned: similar to a traditional old fashioned with blackberry liqueur and muddle blackberries. Great tasting and not overly sweet. $11 on the happy hour menu. - Filet Mignon Steak Bites: tender and juicy pieces of filet mignon, served with rice and rosemary bleu cheese sauce. The rosemary bleu cheese sauce is amazing. Highly recommend the filet mignon! $15 on the happy hour menu. - Buffalo Brussel Sprouts: served with bacon and a bleu cheese sauce for dipping. These were a little crispy and soft and smothered in buffalo sauce. Great appetizer. $11 on the happy hour menu. - Burger & Fries: half pound cheese burger (charged $1 extra for the cheese even though it says cheese burger on the happy hour menu.....) The burger meat was simple and basic. It is served with red onions, tomato, and lettuce. It had no sauce on it so we added the rosemary bleu cheese sauce to it. It definitely needs sauce. It was overall good. It comes with a handful of wedge style fries that were also good. $17 dollars (including the extra cheese charge) on the happy hour menu. - Cheesecake slice: simple, sweet, and delicious. We liked all of our food! The filet mignon pieces were our favorite menu item we tried tonight. Another successful and enjoyable meal at Holdren's!

This is the best restaurant with the best food and the best service in all of California as far as my husband and I are concerned. We come here to celebrate every holiday, birthday and anniversary. When friends come into town we always bring them to Holdren's Steak House and they are always blown away with the amazing gourmet food.

Holdrens is another classic steakhouse and we're lucky to have an option like this in the 805. Came for a girls night as my friend said this would be the perfect place for a little celebration & a splurge. While it is a nicer steakhouse it isn't as fancy as a Mastros, definitely had more of a "local" neighborhood vibe with a mixture of people dressed up and then those wearing casual attire. I genuinely had never noticed this restaurant as its in a busy but nice strip mall with other restaurants and businesses. Tucked on the corner I had missed it all these years, not the kind of location you'd imagine a nicer steakhouse. However, the parking was easy and it's located right off the freeway so pretty easy to get to. The interior was a little more dated then I expected but not in a bad way, it gave a cozy and friendly vibe. Not pretentious and definitely welcoming. The service here was great. From start to finish every person we interacted with was lovely and helpful. From the hostess, to the server, and the support staff running around everyone was smiles. Our waters were always filled and empty plates cleared. I was also impressed with the pacing of the food. The cocktails came out quick and within five minutes of ordering our appetizer it was on our table. Impressive. Our waiter was very nice and helpful with giving menu suggestions. For the service alone I would definitely be back. As for the food and drinks another 10/10. Cocktails were fabulous and the steaks and sides were divine. The best kind of splurge when the food is quality. I had the Pear Blossom cocktail and it was right up my alley. If your a fan of a sweet drink, fairly girly, this one's for you! It was one of the better cocktails I've had in a while but it was dangerously smooth. I drank it too quick because of how good it was but it packed a punch. The cocktails here are good. For starters we had calamari, soup, and a wedge salad. The calamari was probably the only dish of the night we would have skipped. It's as fine but average, not memorable and only lukewarm. My wedge salad though was delicious. I'm always a sucker for a good wedge and I appreciated that they asked if they could chop it for me. The dressing was tasty and a super crisp tasty salad landed another 10/10 for me. For our mains we both had the filets. My filet was cooked a perfect medium rare. It was flavorful and the peppercorn sauce was the perfect pairing. Added a baked potato and it was a meal worth remembering. It's hard to find a good steak sometimes but Holdrens delivers! My friend also loved her steak and sides, it was a home run pick on her end. We were stuffed so no dessert for us. This place isn't cheap but the quality and service made it worth it. Our bill came to about $100 a person after tip. Not bad in my opinion for all of the food we had, and again 9/10 things we tried were fabulous. If your looking for a special date night spot or a place to celebrate with a good meal, you should definitely bookmark this spot and add it to the list.

The food here was very yummy. Great steaks. Went here for my mom's birthday and she enjoyed her meal. The waitstaff was very friendly and wished her many birthday wishes. Highlight of the meal was the make your own smores for dessert. Restaurant was well decorated and a lively space. I wish they add an additional candle or dessert for a birthday. Birthday was acknowledged but nothing special.

The food was pretty good but I felt it was pricey and they charged for every little thing you asked for which in an other restaurant it is 9 times out of ten free!

I have never felt that I was inconveniencing the staff so much before. We had to ask for bread 3 times and even got to the point of not ordering until we had some bread. How hard is it to have baskets of bread and butter lined up before it gets busy? Later, after we had had our meals, the bus boy demanded that my friend passed him a used plate. Then when we were having a group photo, I was told to move back to my seat quickly. The food was OK. We have been there before, and it has been fine. I don't know what had made the staff just not up to their usual standard.

The best steakhouse in Ventura County! We have been here for birthdays, celebrations, and casual dinners and they never disappoint. You can't go wrong with the filet or Chilean Seabass but literally everything is so good! Also the desserts!!! Service is always above par and the drinks are so delicious and innovative!

Nice small local steakhouse located in a strip mall next to 101! Came for happy hour and left happy. Prices very reasonable, service was good. Nice ambiance. Definitely will be back!

First time at Holdren's for my wife's BDay. They were able to put my group of 4 in the secluded side room, much quieter than the main room. Excellent service by the wait staff. The food was very good and my martini was perfect.

1st impression: Very Dark and Very Loud type of ambiance: Personally not my style. If it's going to be low lit, then it would be nice to have a low level of noise. Next time, I would have chosen outside seating. A lot more intimate and private. Food was ok. Tried the bacon wrapped stuffed shrimp. It was good but not amazing. Tried the blackened halibut and it was cooked perfectly but the taste was just ok too. Nothing special. What really stood out was their Filet Mignon which tasted great! Highly recommended. Cooked to perfection. Service was very good. Very attentive! Ended with a great tasting dessert: Chocolate Flourless cake. We enjoyed that very much.

The wife and I had an amazing experience at this restaurant. The location has always been a local gem. From their amazing wine menu, to the abundance of menu items. After coming to this spot a few times over the years we decided to have our rehearsal dinner here prior to our wedding. Tessie and Blake (Owners) were kind enough to let us have the patio for our rehearsal dinner. Ryan and the waitstaff were amazing! They made sure all of guests had all of their preferences met. Thank you so much Holdrens for helping us get the perfect start to our celebration!

I've been to Holdren's probably a dozen times, and each time I say never again. The first time we went, we had great service (Scott) and most of the items we ordered were cooked well. The second time we went, one of the waiters was rude multiple times and didn't treat us well. I let the manager know and could tell he was part of the problem. He's dismissive and shouldn't be running a restaurant. If they changed management to someone who knows the meaning of hospitality, they'd have lines out the door. We went back a few more times hoping to regain the charm and deliciousness from our first trip, and each visit we were met with different problems. Overcooked steak, bland appetizers, bad service, etc. Not coming back.

This is a lovely intimate restaurant. We loved everything we ordered. Their steaks and prime rib are so tender, juicy, and flavorful. Service is also excellent and attentive. We will definitely return. It's a great restaurant for a date night or special occasion.

Was treated to a lovely dinner by the best boss ever this past Wednesday. There was 7 people in our group including myself. Service/Ambiance: busy restaurant; however, the staff were all so friendly. The restaurant is dim yet warm and inviting. Our waitress was so efficient and kind (especially to me since I ordered my filet to my liking, well done and no longer moo-ing). Our group and everyone's comments on my choice made for a comical night and our waitress played along quite well! Food: I'd say everyone was happy with their meal. A couple people ordered the special Prime Rib, 2 ordered the Ahi, one had the Blackened Halibut, and 2 of us ordered the Filet Mignons. My filet was perfect! While it was well and butterflied it was still tender and juicy. My side of mashed potatoes was a good compliment. Dessert: To top off our dinner we shared the Crème Brûlée and a slice of dark chocolate cake. The Crème Brûlée was nice and silky with a perfect caramelized crunch. If you're a dark chocolate lover then the cake would be a nice choice for you as it's rich in flavor but not overly sweet nor bitter.

The service was very nice but the atmosphere left a bit to be desired. Steak & lobster was fine but the dining experience wasn't overly impressive.

This place doesn't use salt for some reason and everything was bland. My steak was rare and I ordered medium rare. The only thing good was the lobster tail. Will never come back here.

Very nice. Great ambience. Nice tables and seating. Service was good. Ordered appetizers, calamari and a cheese dip. Pretty good. The Tomato Bisque was tasty. My ribeye was Ordered medium rare. It was mostly medium but still tasty. Baked potat was delicious and the bacon prawns were also delicious. Overall good service, friendly and helpful. Prepare to pay, meals were pricey.

Went there for the first time this week. The restaurant was not very business but the service was very slow. The staff was very nice and professional. The steaks were not as great as the establishment raves about. The quality of their food was equivalent to an Outback Restaurant but more expensive. I definitely not going there again unless the food is free.

An overall solid steakhouse. The New York Strip was very good - the mesquite flavor really comes through. Pistachio crusted lamb was tasty but the meat was cooked too rare for our taste. Salads that are included with the entree were underwhelming, but Caprese was solid. Very good Brussels sprouts as well as desserts. Our waitress was excellent and very attentive.

This review is for their superior handling of an event. I was at a friend's 50th Birthday event and was blown away by the food and staff professionalism. I walked in and a waiter had a passed hor d'oevres platter of scallops that was out of this world, followed by coconut shrimp. They handled a large party with grace. The cheese platters and charcuterie I have only seen the like in the wine area Bay Area at private parties in Napa - chef thought of everything - sweet, spicy, hard, soft - you name it and beautifully presented, we'll be going back!
