When my cousins invited me to their joint birthday celebration at the Miami Springs Country Club, I had that pre-conceived notion of an atmosphere of raised pinkies and upturned noses since we weren't members. However, nothing could be further from the truth. On arrival at Hole 19, the club's restaurant/bar, we were greeted very warmly as though we were members! We had a server named Sue who was very friendly, attentive and professional. When several couples in our large party wanted separate checks, she cheerfully set them up without any hesitation or side eye. For apps, we had the very crisp and tasty chicken wings, and the largest onion rings I've ever laid eyes on. A little heavy on the batter, but the onions were fresh and the scratch horsey sauce was a nice touch. On this evening, they offered a special on steak. For $35, I got a perfectly cooked, juicy 12 oz. certified angus beef strip steak, a nice-sized Caesar salad, a generously loaded baked potato, and a 16 oz. Bud Light. Call brand mixed drinks were well prepared and reasonably priced. The demographic on this night skewed a little older, but everyone was having a great time listening and dancing to legendary South Florida band Iko-Iko. Also, there are 15 TV's that I could see, so everyone was able to watch the UM-FIU game during our stay. There is ample free parking available in the median section of Curtiss Parkway (NW 57 AV) as well. My only critiques are: numerous times, the TV's lost their signal and went black for long periods, diminishing our game watching experience. Also, later I checked Hole 19's website and saw that they offered $30 unlimited beer & wings during UM games. This was not offered to us, and it's something I'd of been interested in. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised and satisfied with this hidden gem.
