Finally got to try Holy Grail Donut...and you're probably gonna have to keep saying that because their menu changes every day/week. I work in central Oahu, so I can't come here every day... not even every week. But at least I know when I do make the trip, I won't be disappointed. The famous donuts made of taro are crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, with flavors that really stand out - honey+miso?!
The donuts are on the small side, especially considering you're paying $4 each, but that's to be expected. When something is vegan and the store is located in the heart of Kaka'ako, something's gotta pay the bills. The other downside is that they're 5/5 when fresh, but more like 3/5 after they've been sitting for a while and not reheated correctly. I've tried them fresh to get a fair first impression, but had to hold off on eating the whole donut because I hadn't had dinner yet. After dinner, we wanted the donuts, and while they were still good, the microwave didn't do them justice. Next time, I'll probably try reheating them in an air fryer to see if that brings them closer to their fresh-out-of-the-oven goodness.
Great place for fresh breakfast or fresh dessert, whether you're vegan or not, but maybe skip it if you're buying it for the potluck. Also, pretty solid wifi connection, if you need someplace to sit and chill the shop is a great place, I just hope they fix their A/C. I don't know if it was broken or not, but that fan was not cutting it, especially since I can feel all the heat in the air from the freshly made donuts.
