Holiday Club Under Fire For Owner’s Politically Charged Immigration Posts - Eater Chicago

"Customers are calling Chicago bar owner Peter Malek a racist and contemplating a boycott after he posted a politically charged Internet meme criticizing undocumented Mexican immigrants. Holiday Club, his Uptown bar at 4000 N. Sheridan Road, has already apologized online for the post. Meanwhile, people have responded with a litany of negative Yelp and Facebook reviews." - Ashok Selvam

Go through the secret back doors. Music is so fun and gay girly pop. Highly recommend for all the gays and straight if they want to shake ass!!!!

Good bars in uptown area. Open till late. They have a dance floor and a pool table too. Good food and drink options too choose from. Been here a couple of times for Dinner and Drinks. We ordered Chicken wings, tater tots, chips and salsa, guacamole. In drinks, have had bourbon, scotch, cocktails and beers.

Google
The food is amazing. We both had grill cheese and added bacon. It came with avocado and tomatoes on it. Curly fries were crispy.

Stopped in yesterday for the first time in a while. I was reminded that this is a great spot for drinks! Luis the bartender is a super nice guy and fun to chat with at the bar!

I went there last night to grab a drink. Bartender was awful but after reading other reviews I see that is normal. For what it is worth the guy at the door seemed really nice. If you so a woman bartender I would just turn away

First & last time visiting here.. Okay so we heard about this place through a friend & decided to check it out.. Nice place but the bartender is kinda racist. We went to the bar to order drinks remind you noone was ordering, we tried to get her attention several times til she finally came over with a nonchalant attitude bushing us off "I'll get to yall in a minute" 20 minutes went pass still no drinks, we left from the bar went to the back danced then came back to order drinks & food, we stood there trying to order for a minute finally a nice security came over & asked if we was tryna to order, we insteadly replied yes he let the cook know that it was 2 more orders coming in because the kitchen was getting ready to close, he told us stand to the side & someone would gladly take our order, waited forever finally the bartender who didn't want to take our order came over asked if we was ready to oder. She took our order & our money without asking what or how we wanted our food, when we try to get here attention again about our order & price she said snotty The order already been placed waving us off like it was nothing. I guess the security noticed what happened so he asked us what's the problem, we calmly explained to him what the problem was & he assisted us, he was very professional, very knowledgeable, he made sure we was comfortable for the little time we was there, we ended up just taking our food to go & said we wasn't going to ever return.. They next morning we talked to our friend who referred us to the Holiday Club she was very disappointed in how they treated us

Google
The last couple times i have come here, it has been great. we came tonight to enjoy 90's night and wanted to eat before the back opened but our Sue, our server, was absolutely terrible. She had a terrible attitude. If you don’t like your job, quit.

Google
Nice cozy bar/restaurant. Very courteous and quick service. They have karaoke (it was on a Wednesday night) & a photo booth. Didn’t get to try the food but definitely want to go back to try it. I was there to play pool & have a couple of drinks with some friends. I had an awesome time.

Yelp
This place has it all! It's a fantastic neighborhood bar just north of Wrigley. What makes it so amazing is Sonny. His attending to detail, friendliness, and expertise is absolutely top notch. He makes your experience at Holiday Club absolutely out of this world. He is like the master of ceremonies when you come and hang out there. You will always have an amazing time when Sonny is in the building!

Yelp
Always a good time. Cool cat vibe, good food, theme nights, fabulous staff, lots of space and seating, private backroom and karaoke Wednesdays! Dark booths to canoodle and bright lights to perform!

Yelp
Great place if looking for a dive bar along Irving Park in Lakeview. It isn't that exciting of an area around here, but if looking for a reason to come this is one. The Holiday Club has a vintage feel about it, looking even older than it is, which is a cool thing. Has great drinks, the main reason for coming. You can also get some greasy food along with a few healthier options like hummus and stuff. Apparently it's been here since the early 1990s, but it seems like longer ago. It has a bit of a mid century look to be honest. They're into showing old vintage programs on the TVs such as burlesque shows. Also they like the old hip hop and dance nights. Prices are kind of a throwback as well. It's about $7 for basic cocktails. That's pretty cheap compared to some Lakeview places. Food isn't that expensive either. It's about $7 for the Hummus Plate. The rest of the menu features burgers and that kind of thing. Has to be one of the more affordable bars around here. It's cheaper than those fancy hipster places ripping you off for mediocre drinks and food to be sure. This is great for a vintage dance party, events, or whatever.

Yelp
Love the Mcm vibe. Very safe. Very friendly. The dance floor can be fun but also a hot mess. I love this place

Gabriel C.

Yelp
Love my neighborhood Holiday Club but the racist ketchup needs to be checked and fixed. Seriously Folds of Honor?

Avery M.

Yelp
The servers are super sweet and the fries are to die for! Plus love the feel and the neighborhood

Yelp
Dive bars are great, they're the true backbone of this city. They're always there for you. Bonus if they serve up some food. Luckily, Holiday Club has got the booze and the eats. They even got some tunes with a dance floor. I'd love to tell you more about it, but I haven't checked it out myself. I did see that they had a pool table! Unfortunately, it was occupied the whole time we were there about a few weeks ago. Must have went on a bad day, because they didn't have some of the canned beer options they had on the menu. The appetizers also did not look that flattering as well. Don't get the nachos if you wanna be disappointed. I won't lie though, the bar itself has quite a cozy feel to it. It just makes me wanna come in on a blustery winter day and order a piping hot meal as I watch the snow fall from the window. Very convenient location, right across from a Red line station, a few other bars and restaurants too. It seems to be a nice pregame spot, game-game spot, and just a nice place to grab a drink and dissociate. There's a lot of doing that these days, let me tell you! Anyways, I'd love to check Holiday Club out some more, given its close proximity of me and its alluring qualities.

Yelp
We were walking to get takeout at another place and saw the nice outdoor space here so decided to just eat in here. Also we really liked the good prices. Was in the mood for a good sandwich and fries and this definitely hit the spot. Since I am still not completely comfortable sitting inside restaurants I liked the amount of tables outside and the spacing. When we sat down there weren't that many people there which was great but when we were leaving later in the evening it got packed which made me very uncomfortable. I understand filling all the chairs at the table but people should not be standing around the tables. There was a large group right behind me and people kept coming in and just standing by the table. Didn't think that was really safe during this coronavirus time. Not sure if would come back for a while just for this reason.

Gerald C.

Yelp
Bartender was intensely rude. Vibe was toxic. Food made me violently sick the next day.

Yelp
Holiday Club holds a special place in my heart. I mean, who doesn't want to dance in a dimly lit back room to the best 80's, 90's, and occasionally early 2000's music while retro smut plays on the TVs? I hadn't been in a while since the old ownership was in hot water. But it's sounds like current ownership is on the up and up, so I came back before Christmas 2021. Mind you, this was still during the pandemic and as Omicron was making waves. I was glad to see they were checking vaccination status and enforcing masking. It was kind of bittersweet to see so much space on the dancefloor, but I felt comfortable and was able to walk away without catching Covid. Huzzah! I'm super appreciative that water was in abundance and you could help yourself. If I were going to throw caution to the wind again, this would be one of the first places I would patronize.

Yelp
Love this spot and their patio! It's a great disco club vibe inside with music blaring. Sat on the patio and the server was awesome and super friendly. We got our beers right away which were crisp. The tator tots are extremely crispy and so good! The cheese burger I ordered had a juicy patty and was cooked perfectly. They also have daily drink specials which are cheap. Will definitely come back!

Yelp
Such a cute little place with a dive-bar vibe. The decor is cute and the staff is friendly. Old-timey feel with a cute room in the back with a stage that they host daily events with (it was comedy night Thursday when we went). Pool table, pac-man, and touch tunes. Cheap food and drinks. Definitely recommend for a chill night or with a group!
google avatar

Carly S.

Yelp
Honestly such a fun spot. The front area is a great little dive bar -- booths, pool tables, and a great bar. Once you go through the doors to the back, there's a whole separate room with long benches across the walls, another bar, and a large projector playing music videos. You can expect lots of dancing. It's such a great place to go with a group of friends. I can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Monika W.

Yelp
Great vibe for a neighborhood bar. Great service and lots going on, there's a back room that they open up at 10pm for music and dancing. If that's not your vibe, stay in the front area and you can socialize, eat some grub, and play pool. Found out that Wednesday nights are karaoke night and Thursday nights are comedy nights - we'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Great vibes and a neighborhood staple. I've been going here for a decade and it's always been the same great service.
google avatar

Yelp
Big fan of this place, old school atmosphere with good prices and good service. The food it great and they even have some sidewalk seating. Me n my lady go often for the 80s and 90s nights where the back turns into a dance floor and it's a blast. Plus it's a good place to stop before or after a Cubs game being right on Sheridan and Irving park!
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
It is mildly dive-ish, but not in a dingy or unclean way, so I was pleased. The bar area itself is spacious and kitschy, and the drink prices are reasonable. Every Saturday night is 90s night, so every jam you can imagine from the era comes on! Less familiar is the mounted TVs' loop of 1920s burlesque dancers...who knows. What I enjoyed about this experience is that, unlike so many bars that have dancing (or straight up clubs), there are no egos here. People just want to get down to 90s music with their friends, and I think that's just beautiful.

Yelp
Best night of my life since I moved to Chicago IL. Just freaking saying Going back Saturday.
google avatar

Yelp
This bar is like home. The owners and staff are inclusive, the kitchen is clean, and the backroom is always fun. You will feel like you belong. Also, I love the booths, the buffalo chicken wrap, and Greg.
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
Really cool bar but the waitress that works there 5 days a week is the worst I've ever had. We waited 30 minutes for our soup To come and another 45 for the actual Dinner. She never came over to actually serve us, she was too busy taking shots with the locals... if you feel like being completely ignored. Go to this bar, never again.

Yelp
This was exactly what I was looking for. From Grand Rapids and they have a bar their called Stella's that was my favorite. I love to dance to 80s 90s and 2000s hits and that's what they play here on the weekends. Crowd is friendly and not pretentious. Drinks are cheap and bar didn't have a long wait New to the city and my manager recommended this place after I said I liked divey bars with fun dancing and cheap drinks. Coworker also said this was his favorite place for dancing because the people are always cool. Restaurant is separated from the dance floor which also blocks the noise. One billiards table. Booths with a great view of the street. Also, Saturday night 4.50 PBR tall boys. And their wings are actually really good too. Big and crispy with fun flavors!

Yelp
This is our favorite bar in Chicago!!! They always have awesome drink specials, the food is tres delish, and the service is on point! On top of that they have a Diamond pool table -- best in class! Between their weekly karaoke, dance parties, burlesque shows, and trivia -- there's always something shaking at the Holiday Club! 1st Timers Note: There are 2 distinct rooms at Holiday -- the front bar where you walk in, that has a pool table, and the BACK BAR -- it's through another door -- and that's where many of their weekly events and dance parties take place. So it's basically like 2 bars/clubs in one.

Yelp
Simple and quirky corner dive bar with nostalgic decor. We came in looking for a quick drink at the bar and The Holiday Club delivered. It was not packed when we went, but it was only 8:00 on a Friday. We didn't try any food here, but they have a rather large beer menu and several choices for liquors for anything that your heart may desire. Plus they have Pabst on tap! This place knows what they got and they don't try too hard (in a good way). A fun, little bar.
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
Standard dive bar located right by the Sheridan Red Line, had cheap drinks and eats, and a photobooth which people were using, it was pretty early when we went in so it was kinda dead, but I'm sure it gets more packed as the night goes on. Had a cool look inside, nothing "great" about it, but also not opposed to going back

Yelp
This bar has only been around since 1993, but looks like it's been here since the '60s. It is in need of a renovation, but I still can't help but give it 4 out of 5 stars. The bartender and servers are beyond friendly and the prices for the food and drinks are pretty low for the area. There's a lot of indoor seating and a long, skinny outdoor patio along the street for outdoor dining. Plus, a TouchTunes machine makes it easy to listen to your favorites while you're there. Pre-pandemic they also had '80s nights on Fridays, which I will definitely come back for once they start back up again. I haven't tried the food but they have a pretty big menu and the food I saw going by looked amazing! Come here if you're a fan of dive bars!

Mary L.

Yelp
If you want food from here don't!!! I ordered a bacon cheese burger medium, with onion rings. I noted I have an allergy, they didn't. I didn't realize it until it was to late. I'm allergic to tomato's. I asked for none, thanks........NOT!

Yelp
I think this is a great neighborhood bar, but over the years I still haven't found it to be my go to spot. I've usually had friendly encounters with the staff, tho not so much with fellow bar goers; nothing bad, but not really a warm vibe. I've usually found the food to be pretty decent, some things have been really great like the pizza and wings. I like to stop in occasionally but it's not my first thought when trying to decide where to go.

Yelp
Only one of the servers really seemed the care whether the guests were being serviced. The other 2 on shift were playing around. It took 35 minutes after we finished our starter for someone to come up and ask if we'd like to order an entree. My husband and I were so frustrated with the wait that we asked for the check. The server that we asked went to a different table and hung out with those guests for a while. The young lady who seemed to be running everything came over and asked if everything was okay and we explained that we had asked for the check already but the server never brought it. She got it to us right away. The only reason we tipped at all was due to that one lady who was very nice. The other 2 were not interested in helping my husband and I. I will not be returning to this location. Very unorganized.

Yelp
GREATEST BAR IN CHICAGO!!! In a city with more bars than Starbucks, Holiday Club stands out as a true testament to excellence! As Anthony Bourdain might say, this is what a bar should be -- no pretense, no douchebaggery, no bullsh*t -- just a fun time full of quality drinks, food, service, and people -- that doesn't break the piggy bank. Straddling the Uptown/Wrigleyville border, Holiday manages to successfully incorporate the diversity & inclusiveness of North Halsted, the hard drinking, fighting spirit of Wrigley, and the grittiness of Uptown -- often in a single night! From the kitschy Ratpack era inspired decor, to some of the best bar food complete with vegetarian options, to the daily drink and food specials, Holiday delivers enough nightly entertainment to satisfy even the thirstiest of palettes. For the disco aficionados, their weekend dance parties in the back bar under technicolor lanterns promises an evening replete with a good mix of modern and retro, and their weekly karaoke nights are energetic and supremely enjoyable -- with some notably epic performances. For the wannabe pool hustlers, an immaculate 7 ft Diamond pool table serves as an altar for those devoted, or brave enough to test their opponents' game, and socialize with strangers, who then become friends. In summation, for all its contradictions, Holiday Club is a formula that works -- to the benefit of all those fortunate enough to grace it with their presence -- it never seems to fail in providing an accommodating setting for after work drinks, an exciting evening out, or even a second home/lounge for its loyal patrons.

Yelp
This review is based on their Friday 80s dance hit nights- I didn't try any of the food. My friends and I ended up here for my brother's birthday and it was the best choice we could have made to close out the night. From the moment we entered, the staff was friendly and the atmosphere was fun and upbeat. We started off with some drinks in the front room and then went to the back to dance... For 4 straight hours until they closed at 2am! We couldn't stop! Everyone we danced with was friendly, fun, and respectful. The hits that were played were so perfect and watching the music videos on all the screens adds a lot to the whole vibe. I will definitely be back here if I ever want to dance on the weekend (Saturdays is 90s night), or maybe next time I'll come earlier and try some food!

Yelp
Jury is still out on this place for me. Interesting ambiance - went there on a Monday night, so I didn't see or hear all the music and dancing that many refer to in their posts. Our server was nice and came by often, but she was clearly a neophyte when it came to service. My friend spilled his beer - which was about 2/3 or more full - she didn't offer to help clean up even as I wiped under my plate to dry the table off. There were little things that went overlooked. Kinda too bad, because she was great to chat with and fairly personable. I ordered a burger with pepper cheese. When it came out, it was clear that the cheese hadn't been melted properly. It was billed as a half pound burger, but looked a little thinner than most half pound burgers I've had. My friend said his pulled pork sandwich could have used a little more BBQ sauce on it. Cubs weren't playing, so parking turned out to be a breeze. One pool table with several "pool sharks" playing - fun to watch them. An OK place, but with all the options in the city, I don't really have a compelling reason to get back there anytime soon.

Yelp
I looovveee the atmosphere. This is such a fun place to meet up with friends for drinks, and then slowly migrate over to the dance floor once you're several drinks in for '80s music. I'd give five stars if it weren't for my really unfortunate incident with the card maximum policy. I stopped in once and opened a tab with the intention of staying several hours and ending my night there, but ended up having to leave early due to a small family emergency. I went to cash out my one drink and was told they couldn't run my card for under $5. I didn't have cash on me, so the bartender told me to order a shot and then they would run my card. I didn't particularly want to drink more (and was in a hurry because of said family emergency) and protested multiple times, but was basically forced to add a pop (which I left untouched on the bar) to my tab so the bartender would stop holding my card hostage. Haven't wanted to spend a penny there since, which is a shame because it's such a fun place. ETA June 2018: Apparently the owner is also a racist Nazi... so I'll knock my two stars down to one and definitely won't be going back.
google avatar

Patrick E.

Yelp
Great outdoor patio for people watching. The backroom hosts events for Meetups (Wordpress, Webdevelopers, etc) and attendees like to stick around after these events to get some food and drink. Their tater tots are awesome and the mac n cheese fills the spot. The pool table is used for league games during the week, so you know its kept in good shape and level. :-) Lots of people come here for match/tinder/OKC meetups (its pretty amusing to watch the interactions. If you're headed to an event at Wrigley, its not a bad location to hit before/after.

Yelp
I miss the original location on Milwaukee greatly. With that being said, I miss what this location was five to ten years ago and more. I have been here a few times the last few months. They don't have enough waitresses. Ever. The waitresses are good. The bartender I encountered recently is a straight up b. I came in and asked how much a dirty martini was because the price is not listed on the board. A drunk old man douche responded something to the effect of 12,345 dollars. Then the bartender repeated it and stared at me. Then I asked how big the glass was and she went over and got one and held it out upside down next to her hip. She was like we are not a classic bar. I walked out. Take your wannabe punk rock attitude back to the garbage town you moved here from. Never again.
google avatar

Yelp
A true neighborhood dive. I stop in here all the time. Good and friendly service, pretty good drink selection. I think the food slaps. The pizza and wings especially. I've only been here during the pandemic so I'm excited to see what it's like after, with themed nights and karaoke and the works. Only qualm is that I wish they had selzters!
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Great place. Always welcoming and fun. Have 80s and 90s night on the weekends and kareokee on Monday and Wednesday. Mary Mac of the closed, but not forgotten, Bluefrog brings the awkward on Mondays. Beer selection is decent and decently priced. Bartenders are also very chill. Pool table also present. Overall a good place near lakeview/wriggley to go to after 10 p.m. Food is so so, bit it is bar food afterall.

Adriane P.

Yelp
Once upon a time, in a neighborhood so very awesome lived a fair maiden named Adriane Petunia. She was courted by a rather imprudent and tempremental young sir. Whenever she declined a date or wished to stay in he'd grow upset and ominously threaten, "OK! If you don't I'm going to Holiday Club!!!! I'll find some girl who wants to see me!!" She'd be sad yet continue with her regularly scheduled plans but this repeated warning aroused a certain level of intrique and mystique about Holiday Club. She since tossed him aside like a parking ticket, but still wondered about Holiday Club. Imagine her astonishment when she went and saw how low key, sedate, and typical it was! He made it sound like there was scantily clad, randy people, and champagne corks whizzing around the room. I guess her throwback breezy thought since the word "club" was in the title it sounded more wild? Or she should be concerned? Who knows what's behind the best laid plans of mice and men. The special was Hamms cans for $2. Neither she nor the lad she was with knew what that was but gave it a shot then left. She concluded she may return, in spite of the deception, sometimes the prospect of a low key bar pleases. And she lived happily ever after. The End

Yelp
We rented out the back room to host a 30th birthday party and Sonny and the team went above and beyond for us! Sonny was great to work with beforehand, and there the night of to take care of us. Him and his team provided excellent service! Huge shout out to the bartender that worked our party, too, she crushed it! Our guests had the best time and enjoyed the premium selection. Everything was perfect! Thanks for a great time, Sonny and team! We're paying for it today!

Yelp
"Let's go to the Holiday!" What? I can't remember the last time I was at either Holiday Club (and if you don't remember the one in Wicker Park where Salud is, you probably call that area "Bucktown"). This Holiday Club is just a box. A box that looks like the bar back and top could spin around and become a 10 cent candy store or some legit business quickly as if we were in Prohibition. It's a bare bones box. The juke box is incredible, and Beer selection is okay, waitstaff is quick enough, and not a bad time was had when our large group met here. I'm happy to report that The Internets are a safer place now. Sleep tight, you all.
google avatar

Carol K.

Yelp
I am still smiling this morning after the antics last night at the Holiday Club. Where else can supposed "grown ups" cram themselves into a photo booth to get their pics taken, eat fries completely covered in gravy or cheese (like we needed more calories!) or sing along to great songs on the juke box by artists like Tom Jones, Abba and Aerosmith? I laughed until my sides hurt as I sat in my retro chair (think your mom's 1960's metal kitchen set) drinking my well poured drink and watching the people go in and out on this corner of Irving Park and Sheridan Roads. Holiday Club delivered on exactly what I needed last night. A cool place to grab a cocktail and hang with friends both new and old. Now sing along with me and my old buddy Tom Jones. . . . . . . .my, my, my . . . Delilah. Why, why, why . . . .Delilah! Hmm . . . .that sounded so much better last night!

Yelp
I wanted to go dancing at a club, but since I'm 32 and married I didn't want to go somewhere with just people a decade younger than me. I wanted to go out at like 10 not like 12, and I didn't want to pay a huge cover and a ton for drinks. I'm too old for that shit. This was the perfect place! It's half restaurant/bar and half club. You can just walk back and forth between the two. I went with friends Friday night, and I think everyone liked the place. There is no cover, no dress code, and well drinks were $6.50. They even had a couple of $4 shots! I will say that my rum and cokes were some of the weakest ones I've ever had, so beer or shots might be better. The music was good, there were plenty of people dancing. The crowd was quite diverse. There was a good mix of all types of people. I plan to return soon!

Yelp
I usually LOVE Holiday Club, and have spent many Friday and Saturday nights there dancing to 80's and 90's music, but last night I had a very disappointing Holiday Club experience... it was a Saturday night, there were lots of people on the dance floor, but NO 90's jams playing. I'd invited multiple groups of friends who hadn't been there before and most of them left after about 20 minutes because the music was so awful. I complained about it on my way out and was told there's an interim DJ right now, so I'm hoping that if I give it a few weeks HC will get its act together and will be back to playing the music everyone is going there to dance to. It's one of my favorite places in the city so I would really hate to see them change a good Also, I'm on this amazing volleyball team called "cheeseboat" ever heard of them? I bet you have... since we WON the the Wednesday intermediate 6s at Lincoln high school. Yeah we're kind of a big deal. So therefore I get to judge whatever I want, because I am the CHAMP! Anybody who disagrees, challenge me... challenge me to a game of volleyball... I will destroy you...

Yelp
Don't go there to eat. Go there to dance and rink!! We had such an amazing time. Friday nights is 80's night and Saturday is 90's. I haven't danced like that in so long. Definitely will go back. This is on Saturday to enjoy 90's night. Can't wait!!!

Yelp
I stopped in for a couple of hours last Thursday during their 16th anniversary celebration. I was hoping for some kind of fanfare but they kept it pretty low-key. It was definitely fuller than the usual Thursday evening though. And free calendars. Specials included two-dollar Hamm's cans. These were surprisingly not terrible. I'm a notorious beer snob, so even to drink beer out of a can to begin with was a big leap for me. But two bucks is two bucks (and I was on the cusp of a long weekend of spending and drinking due to a friend's wedding, so I wanted to keep it light on the stomach and on the wallet). They also had a $5 sloppy joe (with tater tots). Once again, I figured "How can you beat a five-dollar meal?" and took the plunge. I haven't had a sloppy joe for probably at least ten years, and I was scared. But--it was very good. I already knew that they have some of the best tater tots around, but I demolished that sandwich in about five minutes (with knife and fork of course--it is very sloppy!). Good bun for this type of sandwich too. I could taste green pepper in there, and my mother always put green pepper in hers.

Yelp
Journeyed over this past Saturday to celebrate a good friend's birthday. You can't miss this place because it has the big glittery looking Holiday Club sign on the marqee. This bar is quite spacious as it has a couple of pool tables and another room for dancing that includes another bar. Lots of different people here which is always cool. They have photo booth which is always cool as well (I think all bars should have it). They had Hacker-Pschorr which automatically made me like the place and then they played lots of my favorite 80's & 90's hip hop & r&b songs. They had televisions all over the back room which played some pretty good movies (everyone that was there know what I mean, LOL). The bar in the back room was manned by one woman that was able to hold her own with a room full of drunkards. This is a great place to get fukked up on a Saturday night.

Yelp
I know it's going to sound odd, but I've only been here for Sunday brunch. Yep, this is always the site of my bookclub's annual holiday meeting and book exchange. I know it's a little corny - Holiday Bookclub at the Holiday Club, but we like it for the half-price brunch pitchers (Bloodys, Screwdrivers and Mimosas) as well as the photo booth. As an added bonus parking's not too bad and the 151 and Red Line practically drop you at the door. Surprisingly, it was dead while we were there, no one was even there watching the Bears game! Only 2 other parties were in the place the whole time we were there. I've never found the brunch menu here all that exciting, in fact hardly any of us ever order off of it. I got my regular, grilled cheese and fries; it was ok, but I found the bread to be a bit tough. I don't know if it was thicker bread than I'm used to (I like the cheap stuff) or maybe if it was a tad stale; either way I was a bit disappointed in it. The fries were as good as always. Our server was sassy, but friendly and attentive; she didn't miss a beat when 4 of us ordered 4 different variations of a grilled cheese and fries - yea, we're high maintenance like that. I'm looking forward to coming back next month for a party in the infamous back room so I'll get to see the HC after dark.

Yelp
5 stars all around for great food, great service, funny wait staff, and always having an open table when we walk in. Walking in from the outside for the first time, I wasn't really sure what to expect. Was it a jazz club? Was it a dive bar? What's with all the sequins in the sign outside? I saw they were having a Tuesday burger special on the sign outside, so I decided to give it a try. We were seated immediately, and figured out that this bar has a retro 90's/dive bar feel with the decor and music. Very cool. Ordered a vodka soda and boyfriend ordered the PBR special, which comes in a huge goblet basically for around 3-4$. After the waitress and I laughed when he got his comically sized glass of beer, we ordered the burger special, which was 5$ for a burger and fries. I ordered some extra toppings for 1$ more, including blue cheese and caramelized onions. I got the balsamic mixed salad on the side, and he got the fries. Both burgers came out amazing, and had a nice char crust. For 5$, they tasted even better. Oddly enough, I liked my salad as much as I liked my burger. Normally I don't think twice about ordering a side salad, and cry inside as I fight the urge to not be an adult and order fries. But my salad was so good, and the dressing was so good, I honestly didn't even care that I didn't order fries. Came back and ordered the Cesar salad, boyfriend got the wings. Again, I was shocked at how good their salad was, the dressing tasted homemade. Boyfriends boneless wings tasted on point as well. It's rare you find a dive bar that has great bar food, great wait staff, but also delicious healthy options if you want. This place offers all three.

Yelp
Warning - if you care about customer service and need a bartender that knows how to make a drink, please look elsewhere. This place is NOT what it used to be. I dropped in this weekend and was beyond surprised and outraged at the attitude of the server/pretend bartender. They were not busy at all and we were kept waiting and waiting! I had to ask for our presence to be acknowledged! The drink I ordered was absolutely disgusting and the server/pretend bartender had the absolute worst attitude (I mean outrageously BAD, complete with eye rolls, sighs and insulting responses) when I requested something else. We decided to get up and leave after being treated so poorly. The woman had the nerve to ask us to pay for a drink that wasn't even touched! We were then told to "Get out!" by this woman! Never have I ever experienced such disgusting and despicably poor service - never. This place was already in serious trouble a few years ago (look it up - maybe the racism problem still persists...) and I guess it has been downhill from there. What an embarrassment to the industry, community and neighborhood and city! This place needs to close and make way for an establishment that actually cares about it customers. What a horrendous experience. It's obvious why no one goes there anymore. I was so glad to leave this nightmare and that horrible service behind!

Yelp
This bar was our favourite hangout for months, the food is good for the price and pretty tastey. The beer is reasonably priced, especially on goblet Thursday. The waiting staff were exceptional, made you feel like a real regular and remembered our favourite drinks after the first night. However I give a bad review on account of one bouncer. We were regulars and his actions alone meant we never went back. He kicked us out, and made us feel unwelcome. I would give the place 0 stars If they were all like him, but the rest of the staff are great!
