‘Vibration Cooking’ Is a Unique and Enduring Classic | Eater

"She would give guests money to go eat at a nearby quick-service, cafeteria-style restaurant rather than have them remain at her table and risk causing what she called “vibration-related indigestion,” using that impersonal dining spot as an expedient alternative when a visitor’s energy felt off." - Aimee Levitt

We stayed in room 308 with 2 queen beds. The room was uncomfortably warm as the air never kept up with it's assignment. The outside temp was only 86°, so it wasn't a monumental task... I seen 3 tiny ants crawling on my bed and pillow. Not a massive deal, at least they weren't bed bugs. The water pressure was low in the bathroom and shower. The TV was great, but had no guide info or channel guide so we were waiting for the channels to load and see what was on it for each one. My lone great experience was breakfast. Even though it was an extra $10 per adult, it was good with the gentleman that seemed to run the breakfast room and food, doing a fantastic job cleaning up and making sure each item on the line was fresh and hot. It was a great selection of comfort breakfast foods. Bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits gravy, potatoes, french toast, cereal, fruit, etc. There aren't many things around the building except a Hardee's, a Starbucks, and a Wendy's. The desk staff was ok but short with us.

Google
It was perfect for unwinding from a long drive. Great bar and restaurant. Good breakfast. Way above average. Parking was easy. Elevators were fast. The room was quiet. They offered ice at the restaurant if you wanted more than the floor ice machine had.

We had a great stay at this hotel. I have to agree with many other reviewers that the staff is just outstanding! We were just passing through, but I kind of wished we could stay longer. Everything was clean, the beds were comfortable, the staff was friendly and accommodating. We lacked for nothing. I would definitely stay here again!

Google
I booked this hotel to be in same hotel as my son for his military graduation service at Maxwell. I was delighted with the overall experience and would recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Montgomery. The check in process was quick & front desk service was very friendly. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was great!

Google
This was good enough to stay for the night to pass through. The bathroom was our issue. Found hair around toilet area. Fun part was trying to shower with broken curtain rod. Lol Shower curtain rod was broken so water would go outside the tub. But in all honesty, we won't stay here again, for a Holiday Inn, we expected better.

Google
The staff and accommodations were excellent. As soon as I walked in, the front desk staff were informative, friendly, patient and helpful. They walked me around the premise and discussed areas to explore during my 2-week stay. The restaurant located within the building was convenient for late night workdays and the food were surprisingly good and at fair price. Really appreciated the additional discount for military service members. As a bonus, the complimentary breakfast was great. Housekeeping was on it, always cleaning up the room on its scheduled timeframes and appreciated a self-serve laundry facility in the building. Overall, one of my best stays for someone who travels and resides in a hotel fairly frequently. Thank you for the experience. - James

Google
Great friendly staff at front desk. Location and value were the reasons I stay at the property. Easy check in and check out. Will stay at the property again in the future. Only complaint is the property needs to invest in new towels.

Google
felt like my room was never cleaned appropriately - I had to go to the staff for toilet paper, my toilet had black rings at the top of it, etc. I am in no way a clean freak and this grossed me out. The elevator would ding loudly whenever it reached its floor and this noise as well as how everyone's doors, including the bathroom doors, would slam woke me up constantly - and I was on the other end of the hotel than the elevators. I definitely did not sleep well at all. The hotel staff were nice enough.

Yelp
I am a loyal IHG member and this hotel has made me reassess that. I am in the military and needed a hotel fairly close to Maxwell AFB. I called around and this hotel is all I could find. I paid $441 as an IHG member and was told that was cheaper than the government rate. I spoke to my fellow Airmen and they paid $81-$200 for their rooms at nearby hotels. I understand, they were taking advantage of the situation I was in, but to me that's more than enough to never patronize an IHG property again. I was told they take advantage of military, because they know we have to find accommodations nearby. I still can't believe I paid $441 for a mediocre (at best) hotel.

Yelp
I chose this location due to convenience to the interstate and the fact that I am an IHG rewards member. This is advertised as a newly renovated hotel. The lobby is nice but once you get to your room very little is new. The bathroom has old wood supports for shelving under the sink. It was worn to the point that someone made a poor attempt to paint over it which actually made the shelf look filthy because of the new paint. The baseboard tiles were either stained or mildewed and I didn't care to confirm by touching it. When I got in the shower I let the water run to heat up then I saw hairs all over the walls. ( see my pictures). The bed was pretty hard. I am not a fan of firm mattresses. If you are they are probably fine. One of the elevators was broken and some extra effort was put in to be sure you know it is broken so it could have been that way for a while. Breakfast buffet was a whopping $12.95. It didn't look like anything more than you would get at a Holiday Inn Express except that it would be free there. After seeing my bathroom I question the cleanliness of the kitchen anyway. It is my experience that housekeeping is usually pretty consistent at any business. There is a Waffle house next door and some decent fast food within walking distance. Upon check out the man at the desk never looked at me. I told him my room number and that I wanted to check out. He just started typing and after a few minutes he responded(still without looking up) you are good. I would have posted this on the IHG site or the hotel site however neither allow an honest review and often kick back reviews that are not in their favor. I really like this brand but they have some bad properties.

Yelp
What a great experience. We were greeted in the Christmas decorated lobby immediately. The lobby staff was very courteous and helpful. We had two small children who were extremely excited and full of questions about the indoor pool. The pool we was indoor and heated. The kids swam at 5pm and then after supper at 8pm and then next morning at 8am. We is used all the provided towels but were quickly given more. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The pillows, mattress, and blankets were comfortable which made for a good night sleep. Our room had a small keurig, mini fridge, sofa, coffee table, and office desk area. The TV had plenty of family friendly channels. All of the staff we encountered were very friendly. There were times that we passed various employees while we sat in the lobby, walked the hallway, used the pool, or were outside. Every single time, each employee looked us in the eye, asked how we were and if we needed anything. The service was above any expectations. We did not eat at the restaurant in the lobby, Magnolia bar and grill. They are open in the evenings but i would recommend the very short drive to southern comfort restaurant for food. No breakfast option but Waffle House is next door.

Yelp
Stopped at this hotel coming from Tennessee heading to Florida. It was late at night and we decided to get some rest before getting to our destination. Check in went smooth. Our problem wasn't until we walked in the room. It smelled horrible like dirty sock. The pillows smelled like they've never been washed. The towels where dirty and the rug looked like it hadn't been vacuum. The shower curtains where full of mold. I will never stay here again. We had a horrible night, we didn't get no sleep and felt itchy the whole night thinking the last thing we needed was to get bitten by bed bugs. Thank God we didn't. I would either sleep in my car or look at other options before sleeping here again. Horrible experience.

Yelp
Nice property outside and in the lobby. We had a bug in our bed last night and then a spider in the bed this morning when I was packing our stuff and making sure we weren't leaving anything behind. There is also a big stain on the sheets. Looks like urine. Bethany at the front desk was nice during check-in. Breakfast is not free but discounted. Wanted to charge us $27 for buffet breakfast. Or there's a McDonald's next door with a $1 menu. We went next door. And by the looks of the restaurant at the hotel, so did everyone else. Many things could be shored up around here. Lots of potential. We are IHG Platinum members and this just disappointed us, especially since we used our points for this stay. Should've saved them or used them elsewhere.

Troy H.

Yelp
Very large clean rooms, we stay there every year right before thanksgiving before getting to Florida. We highly recommend it.

Bill S.

Yelp
The hotel was conveniently located for the purposes of my trip. The hotel lobby was spacious and well appointed. Your personnel were friendly and professional. My room was clean and comfortable. The hotel restaurant staff were friendly, professional and provided excellent service. The food at the hotel restaurant was very good. I would like to specially recognize Tina H. for making my stay a complete success!

Yelp
Accidentally booked the day before my actual stay. Showed up the day I thought I booked, got a room and stayed. Hotel still charged for the day prior and would not refund even when explained it was an accident. Hotel was not sold out either.

Yelp
I have traveled the world and have stayed in hundreds of hotels in my life, the Holiday Inn Montgomery South Airport is by far the BEST hotel I have ever stayed in. The rooms are large and very clean, the maid service far exceeds all my expectations. To top it all off, the staff, from maintenance to bartenders to the front desk is EXCEPTIONAL...... I will ALWAYS stay at this hotel while in town whether it's close/convenient or not.... 100% satisfied!!!! Thank you Mark, Laura, Shika, Marvin, James, Curtis, and Nae, you all write the book on customer service...

Yelp
The front desk employee, Erika, went above and beyond to assist us. We needed to park a pick up pulling a trailer so we called the hotel about parking. Erika answered and not only was she friendly and helpful on the phone, she actually walked outside as we were pulling up to point us where we needed to go. When we checked in we were hoping to end our day with a relaxing cocktail, but the bar was closed for New Years Day. Again, Erika went above and beyond to make our stay the best it could be and called the owner to ask if she could open the bar herself, just to serve us. She didn't hesitate at his approval, and in no time we each had a beverage. In today's times it seems this level of customer service is hard to find and we are very appreciative of it. The rooms are also very nice, the bathroom had a magnifying mirror attached to the wall that I found helpful. We are gold members with the IHG brand and I hope someone reading this will give Erika the 'attagirl' she definitely deserves. Because of her, we will always stay here when traveling through this area.

Yelp
Excellent hospitality! Went above and beyond to host my large conference group. Lara and Keisha were very friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure everyone felt at home. They provided information about the local area and even called places of interest for opening times and special offers. Marvin and Brandon in the restaurant and bar area are absolutely professional and go out of their way to make sure everything is perfect. Thank you!

Yelp
We were on our way to Florida but we're caught by three traffic jams from Louisville KY, Nashville TN & AL... Needed a layover, thank God Holiday Inn! Place is relatively new and clean, and staff were friendly! The breakfast buffet was also great!!!

Yelp
Hotel was great, room was nice and clean, checkin and out so easy. The breakfast was the down fall here, not a lot of selection and what they had was subpar. Other than than very pretty and new hotel would stay here again but do breakfast down the road at cracker Barrel lol

Yelp
I stayed one night while passing through Alabama and was very pleased with this hotel. It did seem like they were understaffed probably due to the corona virus but the ones there did a great job in multitasking and trying to be helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. Restaurant onsite was a nice touch because I got there late after driving so long and did not want to go back out to get something to eat. The food was GOOD too. Pool and gym were closed due to corona but they still served breakfast where some other hotels did not. Location seemed very good, right off the highway.

Yelp
New hotel with shopping close by. Free wired and Wi-Fi. Fridge and microwave included. I was given an ENORMOUS accessible room and it was excellent. Interior lounge was convenient and the staff was cheerful. Although I used a Priority point and credit combo, the price was reasonable. I'll be back in a couple of years and this hotel will be first on my list to stay.

Yelp
After a 15 hour work day and drive, I chose this Holiday Inn over a motel to sleep in the following morning. Dinner was surprising good. The bartender professional and handled multiple people alone without any qualms. Then the morning came....four knocks down the hallway...five second wait and four more knocks...."HOUSEKEEPING!" That went on long enough to frustrate me awake. This wasn't just knocking on one door and then go inside and clean it. She was knocking on every door and propping the unoccupied ones open. I consider this act a Blatant attempt to get people out of their rooms. (No I didn't see the do not disturb sign that was strangely hung in the corner). But, that even wouldn't have helped. Four knocks, five seconds, yell and repeat over and over and over. Yes, she got me out of my room because I was pissed at all the employees. They know what she's doing. Can't you run a report on who has checked out that morning and target those rooms? That's what I did when I was a housekeeper. That's what my manager taught me to do. There's a novel idea. I only gave this place two starts because of the bartender with the KC hat. He rocked. Here's my advise as a consumer, You (management/owners) fix this problem. I Will Not be back at your hotel ever again and I travel constantly. Thank you and God Bless.

Eddie S.

Yelp
Quiet, mostly clean room. A few stains on the bed. My highest complaint is this.....why do I have to pay $9 per person for their breakfast buffet? I've never stayed at a Holiday Inn and paid for breakfast. Just because theirs is in a seller are room with a name on it, Magnolias, doesn't make it worth $9 per person.

Yelp
I just stayed at this hotel for a month for Air Force training and truly felt like part of the Holiday Inn family. The staff at this hotel is extremely friendly (even knew my name by mid-training) and went out of their way to please their guests. They created a separate lounge area for us with a big screen TV, lounge chairs, popcorn maker, ping pong table, corn hole, and even bought mountain bikes for our use! They had a home-made meal for us every night (at a special price) and hot breakfast in the morning with made-to-order eggs. The cleaning staff was also very thorough. The management is TOP NOTCH and they are continuing to make improvements daily. They now have an infrared grill on their patio and they are doing a refresh on the fitness center. Although this hotel is not around much I would stay here again and again.

Yelp
Very disappointed in this hotel. Just checked in at 1:00 AM after a 5 Hour drive. When I walked into the lobby, I waited for several minutes... I finally walked to the left of the counter and asked the woman (in conversation on her cell phone and on Facebook on the computer)in the room behind the counter if she would help me at the counter. I then checked into my room and walked into at least 25 ladybugs throughout the room...on the ceiling, walls, beds, and curtains. I realize that ladybugs are harmless but they're gross in large quantities...crawling all over while you try to sleep. I went down to the desk and told Monita my issue. She firmly told me there was nothing she could do except send housekeeping in the morning to vacuum them up and that she didn't have any other rooms available. While the issue was bad enough, Monita's response was even more disappointing. All she could offer was that they were native to this area. Really?? Who is comfortable with bugs all over their room? In fairness...I should've known better than to stay here a second time. Last week, we stayed here on our way to New Orleans as a pit stop and we were given keys to a room occupied by a sleeping woman--walked right in on her. So scary. Luckily we were harmless and walked right out. Again, no apology from he front desk person who I am 99% sure was also Monita. Lessons learned.

Yelp
Great location, property, and staff. The restaurant staff was excellent as well. Very clean and well maintained.

Kristy T.

Yelp
This hotel could be nice, but it's not clean...sticky floors, old toys in the corners, sheets with questionable spots. Coffee in the lobby was cold by 8 am and the breakfast buffet that you have to pay for looked like what you usually get for free (we chose the McDonalds down the street).

Yelp
In town for work. Booked a room a week prior. I'm also Spire Elite. Upon arriving I was told "I think that room has been cancelled" and I can't get a room. Curtis, who claimed to be the GM, says that my company's cc was not processing and they cancelled my room. He says they tried to contact me. I have zero voicemails, zero missed calls, and zero emails warning me of the situation. A week has gone by since reserving. Prior to this, making the reservation took all of 20 minutes and was like pulling teeth. No solutions were presented as the staff continued to bumble and mumble bc they put their chips on a spire member who constantly stays at Holiday Inns across the country just not showing up. On top of it all, it was insinuated that this was my fault due to me not randomly calling to make sure the hotel didn't muff my reservation bc I didn't double check they had the right cc number, phone number, and email which is plastered up and down my member account. This HI just earned Marriott some business. A blind clown could've avoided this situation.

Yelp
In town one night had dinner unfortunately at Magnolia Grill & Bar they were understaffed waited for drinks and waited for food. An employees phone was plugged in by our table we had to listen to it ring for several minutes. Breakfast was worse...full buffet price for a bowl of cereal...we were told it would have been free if we had made our reservations on line...thanks for the tip...

Daniel L.

Yelp
Checked in for a night. Advertises free internet. Technically that's true. But the internet is shaky at best. Pretend it doesn't exist. I asked couple questions about how to get to airport on time. A whole lot of misinformation was given to me. If you value correct information, do not ask these folks for advice. The sheets have hair all over the place. Bathroom floor was groggy. Shower had stains all over that I could wipe away easily. Would never stay again. Try out three other businesses within walking distance.

Yelp
Great hotel. I loved everything, from the friendly staff, clean rooms, and amazing lobby.. Although the hotels rooms and staff were great, the breakfast cost $10, if it was a Hilton and such I would expect the price, but somewhere like a Holiday Inn should provide breakfast

Ronda L.

Yelp
I seemed to be bothering the employees at the check in counter. Certainly did not feel welcome. Using my rewards points for the total cost of the room they insisted on charging me $25 for "incidentals", even if nothing was charged to the room. I will get it back in 7-10 days. Why not just charge for anything charged? Hard time understanding why they need to charge for nothing and keep it a week. Simple no frills breakfast $10. Was glad we got 2 free even though there was 4 of us. Although Holiday Inn has always done a good job and we are members, I won't be using this one again.

Tara R.

Yelp
We drove 10 hours and needed a place to stop to let our kids swim. We lugged all our stuff up to our room to find the door propped open and one bed slightly left unmade (pillows were on the chair and the bedding wasn't tucked in). We checked the hallway for housekeeping but didn't see anyone so we entered the room. We were exhausted from traveling and our kids just wanted to swim, so we put the pillows on the bed and let it go. After swimming, the kids showered in the very hard, painful shower. The next day after we checked out, we saw an additional $80 charge. When I called they said it was for a missing blanket on the bed (the one that wasn't properly made when we entered). We did not take a blanket. I explained the situation that I described when we entered the room, but the manager said it was our responsibility to check the room when we entered. We were not given a checklist when we arrived, and we do not work in hospitality, so we didn't notice that a blanket was missing from the bed. The manager does not support his guests; he covers up mistakes made by his staff and charges his guests for it. Do not waste your money on a place like this!! Terrible customer service and values! I'm very disappointed and stopped at a Hilton on the way home instead.

Yelp
Clean hotel, quick friendly check-in. Excellent location. Nice room arrangement. Updated bathroom. I like that there is no bathtub.

Britney R.

Yelp
What a joke! As soon as I arrived the room they put me in had no air conditioning and it was HOT! When I asked to change rooms they seemed annoyed. The beds are okay but overall there is a musty smell that lingers in this place. NO HOT WATER for several days stay. Breakfast was a joke and when I asked for any kind of pancake or waffle I was told that they did not have any mix in stock to make them and the lady seemed super aggravated that I would asked and talked to me like I was an idiot for asking. I do not recommend!!
