Nothing feels quite as Singaporean as walking into a hawker centre, knowing exactly how every item on the menu should/would taste, and feeling spoilt for choice. This sentiment is exacerbated the moment one walks into holland village food centre- they have one of the widest range of cuisines (western and korean perhaps to cater to the expat community) with all the dishes priced at competitive prices.
I like the fact that even though it doesnt really have an 'open' concept, the indoors area is always kept quite cool by the good ventilation and you never have to leave smelling quite like the lunch you just had. My favourite dish has to be the nasi lemak- the rice is fragrant and does not stick together, the ikan bilis is salty enough to give the dish a kick, and the chilli is for lack of a better word, just shiok. I also always save room for dessert whenever I am there, and I especially enjoy the (shaven) ice soursop jelly or the tau suan.
The only bad thing about this food centre that it can get abit wet especially when its rainy, and it is definitely not as clean as the other f&b establishments in the area. But if you think you can put up with that, then there is no reason to give this hawker centre a miss!
