Very nice experience visiting for a workshop with Kandy Lopez. The craft was based on fiver art and I enjoyed learning the techniques with my family. This location has many events and a nice centered location in Holloywood.

In all my time living in South Florida and my interest in Art and Culture, and the many art shows, galleries, and museums I've been to, I've never been to the Arts and Culture Center of Hollywood... Until now. Located in a preserved, historic building which was built in the 1920s, you might miss it if you weren't looking for it. It's on the edge of a residential area, and just east of Young Circle, so it gets a little lost in it's surroundings, but it's definitely worth exploring. The parking lot is free, and there's also street parking available. Entrance is $10 for adults, discounted for kids and seniors, and free with membership. The Center holds three exhibition spaces downstairs and one upstairs. The main exhibit space is rather large, which you can tell by looking at the current exhibition (ANIMALS), which showcased various media depictions and representations of animals. Behind the main space, there are also desks and drawings from patrons or the students at the school. There is also an artistic garden which may be a lot more enjoyable when the temperatures cool down. I met Joanna who did an amazing job of providing me with updates about events, history, and meet the artist days, which I believe are also free. I will definitely be back to check out other exhibitions and hopefully be able to attend an exhibition opening or two in the near future. If you're looking to improve your cultural aspirations for you and your family, come check out the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood. You can tell Joanna I sent you 😁

We literally just landed in Fort Lauderdale (a little bit of a ways away from Hollywood) just today, and this was the very first attraction that we visited. Needless to say, this was a FANTASTIC experience, and by far one of my favorite experiences in any museum/exhibit ever! Not only were a wide range of multimedia artists and creators represented in a variety of different ways, but ALSO the director of development (Jeff Rusnak) engaged us and other guests in a very engaging, eye-opening discussion about a variety of humanistic, social dilemmas that we currently face in the states, especially following the screening of “Open Dialogues: Queer Allies”! It was all super inspiring, and I owe so much to Jeff for engaging us in this important conversation, especially considering the current social and political climate we’re in right now. Excellent exhibit AND excellent films and engagement; will come again whenever I come back to Hollywood! :)

Found this gem by chance and feel so fortunate. We were greeted at the door, took a tour of the recent exhibits and were given a guided tour upstairs. Impressed with the community outreach to schools that are now without art programs. The center provides materials and online interactive classes to children. Most impressive are the films the center produces featuring LGBTQ stories from teens and adults. We watched Queer Allies and it is an amazing film. This center is a must-visit!

It was totally worth to visit the center during my trip to Hollywood, FL. The staff, Charles, was friendly and helpful throughout the tour of the exhibition. Charles offered me to watch one of the short films at the end of the tour and it was awesome. Highly recommended!

It was such a great place to visit! They had multiple mediums of art and different exhibits to enjoy, and we also loved seeing the kids' art upstairs as well as learning the history of the building. Charles was very helpful and full of information. We will definitely visit again and cannot wait for the extension to the building.

This particular art exhibit can be considered (for me) quote local in nature. It displays a limited selection of local artists (considered interpretive art) and students (quite colorful). The building, actually an old house with some history, is somewhat small so the exhibit is as well. This art Center provides a platform for teaching young students art classes via zoom (online) learning. It does charge a small nominal fee. There is adequate parking for a small crowd.

We had a great time during our last visit. Some very interesting pieces from local artist, and I m a fan of the community outreach programs. Special thanks to Joanne for making us feel welcome and giving us all the info we needed to fully appreciate the exhibits. Will definitely Come back.

Yelp
The best word for this museum is eclectic. While in Florida for a few weeks, the honey and I treated my MIL to a guest pass with our reciprocal NARM membership benefits. Check in wasn't smooth, but the space is definitely much larger than it appears from the outside. The honey enjoyed Environmental Futures III on the first floor and I enjoyed the 'Somewhere I Belong' installation and the community art upstairs, which was fantastic. They also had a piece by a local glass blower Brenna who participated in the Netflix show Blown Away. The piece had an inverted color scheme, but was otherwise a duplicate to the piece she created when she was eliminated. I would have loved to have seen an entire section dedicated to her pieces because beyond the glass and the art upstairs, the general curation wasn't really to my taste. All in all, the service was upbeat and helpful, but with general admission at $7, ($4 for students) I would call the experience slightly overpriced unless you're here under NARM.

Yelp
The Art and Culture Center is located in the historic Jack W. Kagey mansion. It was built in 1924 in the Mediterranean Revival style at a cost of $16,000 for one of Hollywood's founding families, Mr. and Mrs. Jack W. Kagey. The home was completed before Hollywood was incorporated. Jack Kagey worked as the sales manager of city founder Joseph W. Young's Hollywood Land and Water Company. Kagey won $5,000 to start building the house by selling $430,000 worth of properties in 10 weeks in a contest. The Kagey's only ended up living in the home for two years. They left after the Hurricane of 1926 that ended the land boom and devastated the community. Through the years the house was a private residence and gambling parlor. The Foster family tuned it into a funeral home in the 1960's by doubling the size of the house and adding a chapel while retaining a lot of the 1920's features of the home. The property was purchased on January 1990 by the City of Hollywood to become the new home of the Art and Culture Center/Hollywood, which had been operating on Hollywood Beach since 1978. Th house was restored and it is designated by the state of Florida as a significant historical structure. The culture center offers youth programs, art classes, and performing arts. On the Saturday afternoon I visited there were several art exhibits, Artists Draw Their Studios is an exhibit of 50 artists who drew their work space, Amalia Caputo: Transferences 2.0 is a photographic archive of objects the artist has collected since childhood, and Onajide Shabaka: Floridian Lacunae is an art exhibit centering around the plants and people of Ft. Lauderdale's New River tidal estuary. The third floor was a gallery of student art work. I actually loved seeing it because it reminded me of when my daughter used to exhibit her art work at that age. She is now an art student at college so you never know what can happen if you give the kids encouragement. I am glad the cultural center is giving children a place to develop into the next generation of artists. My favorite part of the culture center had to be Leonard and Sally Robbins Sculpture Garden, a small brightly colored outdoor space. They painted a mural on a wall and add plants and whimsical bugs. I actually got a lot of garden inspiration from this space. It goes to show that you don't need a lot of room to bring nature and art into your life. Parts of this garden could be recreated on a balcony. I loved how the city of Hollywood saved this historic home and turned into an arts center for the community. The folks working here could not have been nicer. They actually acted excited that I came to visit and even moved a display board out of the fireplace so I could take a picture. The last time I visited was many years ago when my daughter was in elementary school for a Lego exhibit. Now that I have rediscovered this cultural gem I won't be such a stranger.

Yelp
I was lucky to be able to see Mary Poppins Jr at the Art & Culture Center. The kids in the show did a wonderful job and I was amazed that they all learned such a musical show in just 4 weeks However the Arts & Culture Center was such a disappointment. Upon arrival and buying tickets at the door things went smoothly and once inside we had to stand in line for quite a while waiting for the theater doors to open. Once inside the theater we founds our seats and we immediately noticed that it was very hot in the theater. My guess is that they didn't have the ac on to cool down the theater earlier enough. As the show began it just became hotter and I found watching the show with rows of people fanning themselves with their program was distracting and took away from the show. There were also a lot of production issues that happened throughout the show. Mics didn't work, lights went on and off and a projector at the back of the stage went off. I was impressed how the student actors kept going even when issues happened

Yelp
The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood is really for everyone who appreciates art at any level! The center presents contemporary gallery exhibitions, live stage performances, and high-quality education programs for adults and children. Upstairs they work with local schools and every 3 weeks the exhibit changes to showcase another art class and the children's work. How great is it to have children's work on display just like a professional! They also provide various art classes and a summer camp. Downstairs they have a main gallery and two smaller exhibit gallery space that switch out. We came by when they had Biennial. All artists residing in the state of Florida were invited to submit entries of contemporary artwork for consideration in this Biennial. They showcased the top of original paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, photography, video, etc. Entry is $7 for adults $4 for children and every 3rd Sunday is free! It's in a 90 year old house which really brings a special charm in the heart of downtown Hollywood!

Yelp
This is an exhibit center and not an art museum. Children's art is displayed here. There was one exhibitor only when we attended; it was on par with the children's art. The third Sunday is free admission. To pay to enter would border on ridiculous.
