Yelp
This review is for the hotel-stay only. Sorry, none of my family members were into gambling, but I brought hubby and Mama J. along since I had a gig in Joliet the next day.
The rating on Yelp for "Hollywood Casino & Hotel" here in Joliet, IL is pretty inferior. Unfortunately, my experience concurred with the community. As soon as I entered the hotel, an overwhelming amount of smoke smell came straight to my face. The odor dissipated somewhat as we walked into the elevator, yet I detected a strange scent throughout the facility and couldn't really pinpoint what it was and where it originated.
The front desk lady was courteous and offered us a $5 dining credit. Nevertheless, the pictures of some restaurants inside the casino seemed quite unappetizing. We passed the opportunity to use it the evening we checked in.
Our 2-queen bed room on the second floor appeared clean. The space itself was still permeated with light smoke smell even thought it was designated as a non-smoking room. In addition, I found a few non-functional items: the hair dryer (couldn't turn on), the coffee machine (missing the brew basket), and the internet (very spotty).
I also noticed that the door could use an extra door chain to enhance overall security. Although our sleep was pleasant throughout the night, another layer of defense mechanism would provide more peace of mind in my opinion.
OMG, the continental breakfast...I tried not to bash, but the bacons and cheesy omelettes were SO bad. I almost wanted to deduct their final star. Nonetheless, the saving grace was that the room condition was acceptable. I, therefore, decided to tolerate my disappointment at this awful complementary breakfast. With that being said, they had instant oatmeal cups and coffee at least to increase my morning stamina. The funny thing was that the fruit didn't come out until hubby and Mama J. went to check out later after I left the hotel early for the festival.
I rarely encounter businesses that are legitimately below average, until our stay at the "Hollywood Casino & Hotel Joliet." I don't come out to this part of state all that much, so there shouldn't be any more repeat visit to this property. I say it with confidence.
