I ordered the Mongolian beef for take out and was SO disappointed. Basically just sautéed onions for $18. I still have 3 stars because the wonton soup was good. My husband liked his chicken and mixed vegetables.

The owner and staff are so nice! We had a large group(12) around their big table. Everyone wanted something different, including gluten free and vegetarian options. EVERYONE enjoyed and explored new food. It was a great and adorable meal in a snowy Sunday

Google
Definitely the worst dim sum I have ever had. Beef lo mein was good. Overall, will not return.

Google
Fantastic food and reliable service. Definitely one of my favorite dim sum places, better than even some of the ones in Chinatown in NYC. Hidden gem here in Wheaton! I recommend the Chicken ginger dumpling. FYI - No soup dumplings here but you won't find yourself missing them with all the options here. Another tip - ask for the sauce pack for the table (not sure what you call it but it has the mustard, soy sauce, sweet and sour sauce, salt, pepper, and I think maybe some chili oil too). Thanks so much for the great food

Google
If you love authentic dim sum, this is the spot for you. I’ve tried 5 different “dim sum” places in MoCo and this is by far the best. Their main dishes are really good too. I love the dim sum too much that I rarely eat them but I’ve tried a couple and they’re spot on. Very friendly staff and management as well.

I have always loved coming here. Everyone is so nice, it's family owned and service is fast. The food is authentic and the carrot pastry is something special!

Google
Fabulous food! Best dumplings ever! A lovely family affair! Been going here for years! Just tried a bottle of their dumpling sauce. It's perfect!

Delicious dim sum and the Chinese New Year dragon show was extremely entertaining. We had a great time, and will definitely be back soon for more dim sum!

Yelp
I can't believe it's taken me so long to write a review about this place. I don't know where to start, so I'll keep it simple: This place is amazing. Go here for Dim Sum, get everything you know you'd like and then get some random stuff just to try it and see if you like it. It's amazing. My family drives here for special meals a couple times a year all the way from Richmond, VA--about 3 hours away if the traffic is decent. And we do it because the food is fantastic. My favorite item are the golden pork buns, but really, there are so many wonderful things on the menu. And it's affordable too! Grab a couple friends you don't mind splitting plates with, because everything has 3-4 pieces per plate. Each plate is about $3-7. You end up incredibly full by the end of the meal, having only spent maybe $60-70 or the whole table. Go try this place!!!

Jason A.

Yelp
the food was very bland and the brought out the wrong order. Customer service is very bad and the employees are very impatient. The place is very nice just not a place you would want to really eat at 1 star!

Heather M.

Yelp
Tried Hollywood East Cafe for the first time with family friends today and I would absolutely go back. Glad they were open on Easter and the Owner actually came around to chat with diners throughout the meal. She was very sweet. Decor is low key and simple. I think we ordered at least one of everything so I will go over my top five choices for new diners. The chicken curry pastry puffs, steamed pork and shrimp dumplings, steamed spinach crab and shrimp dumplings, Pork Buns and fried sesame balls with sweet lotus paste are delicious! I would absolutely get each of those again just for me :). Everything came out hot and delicious. One order never made it out to our table which is really the only reason for the 4/5 stars. Otherwise it would be 5. Will be back and looking forward to trying even more on the next trip.

Mark C.

Yelp
Still offers free parking and accepts both cash and credit card. If you order takeout, they are an elaborate pick up process. The staff is live on a computer tablet and you tell them your name for the order. They also accept contactless payment. Once you pay for your order, a staff member comes out with your food. Their pork belly was okay. It was a bit dry and the skin was not crispy. Their noodle dishes were good. Beef brisket with tendon was really good. Their salted fish was surprisingly flavorful. If you like spicy food, their spicy wonton definitely hits the spot. Worth checking out. Kingdom pork chop was delicious and crispy. Their fish and veggies were fish and plenty of fish fillet. Their pineapple bun was good and had tons of filling inside. Worth giving this place a visit if you are in the mood for some good Cantonese food.

Yelp
Amazing execution of Dim Sum! By far some the best we've found. My wife & I enjoyed everything. The servers were top notch

Rosely S.

Yelp
I've been coming to this spot for many years now (since 2013). Although, I do not come as often as I wish. I have always been greeted by the owners who were a super cute older couple. I remember when the lady owner told me that her husband had passed and now she was all alone trying to keep this place going. It felt like he was my relative so I gave her a hug and told her as long as she was opened, I would stop by to show my support. They have a variety of cocktails and an extensive food menu. I will not lie, from 10 different dishes I have tried, there was one that I did not really like. However, that really depends on the person who is trying. Besides, we all have different taste buds. Please stop by and give your support. She has hired a few new young people who I noticed are as welcoming as she is.

Victoria S.

Yelp
Went there for lunch one weekend and decided to do a hybrid of dim sum and a La carte entrees. For the former they don't have a cart going around, but a paper menu where the desired dishes and quantities are marked off with the pencils provided. They have a big selection and more vegetarian options than other dim sum places (2 kinds of veggie dumplings, veggie buns, rice rolls wrapped around fried cruller). We got an order of sesame balls and veggie buns. From the regular menu we got mapo tofu (sans pork) and veggie mu shu. The dim sum came out first and was piping hot (not sitting in a cart). Both items were very good (especially the sesame ball- it was crispy on the outside the melt in your mouth soft and chewy on the inside). The main courses were generously portioned, well/seasoned and not overly salty. The mapo tofu had a spicy kick but was not overwhelming. Will be back for more dim sum!

Yelp
There's a lot of hype about this place...and it's def well deserved. Great HK cuisine and Dim Sum in the Wheaton mall. Dine-in or to go. Digital ordering is cool as well.

Henry M.

Yelp
We turned to Hollywood East to prepare our Christmas Day meal. What an extraordinarily good job they did! The meal was piping hot and ready when promised. The owner personally saw to it that our order was complete. And, as always in our experience, the food was delectable. Kudos to you, Hollywood East!

Yelp
Best Chinese food around! Hollywood East is a true hidden gem. I recently moved to the area, and this restraunt is now my go to for carry-out. 10/10 quality.

Henry M.

Yelp
Generally good dim sum that is now easier to order from a paper menu if you know your way around dim sum than to get from the carts that Hollywood East used to feature. The restaurant is just inside of the mall, and there is garage parking just outside of the restaurant. Most of the dishes have 3 pieces, so consider asking for a knife if you want to share, and you may want to get an order of Gai Lan (Chinese broccoli) if you want more vegetable than what comes in dumpling. Speaking of dumplings, we particularly like Steamed Chives and Shrimp, and we also love the rice crepes, especially the shrimp.

Anye S.

Yelp
Dim sum in the mall! Seat yourself inside or outside (ie outside the restaurant but still in the mall), order via QR code. We only had a few things, they all came pretty fast, they were all pretty good through great. We had golden roast pork buns - 5* if you like sweet. Pan fried pork dumplings - 5*. Steamed shrimp, scallop, watercress dumplings - 3.5* (very sticky wrapper). Deep fried glutinous pork dumplings - 4* also a little sweet but not as much as the pork buns. Everything came in 3s which is the worst number dining with 2. Oh well. But, our meal came out to less than 30 with tax and tip. Definitely will come try other dishes. I do prefer ordering to carts in general, you get what you want and don't have to watch sadly while the cart you want turns away before it reaches you for the fifth time as you say no thanks to the chicken feet for the 8th time.

Yelp
Great place for excellent traditional Chinese food. Dim Sum is to die for! There's a reason they've been a Wheaton staple for decades!

Michael G.

Yelp
This family-owned business has survived a pandemic through dedicated efforts and outstanding food quality, and despite great personal loss in the process. They have become a traditional carryout option for our family, which we eagerly look forward to enjoying each Christmas Eve. The menu is EXTENSIVE, portions are ample and satisfactory, quality exceptional, and the taste is always delicious - you can actually taste EACH individual ingredient and not simply the overall flavor of the entire course. For its consistency and quality, you will be increasingly encouraged to try other menu options with confidence that you will be equally satisfied. So happy to have this outstanding restaurant option available this close to our home!

Nancy Q.

Yelp
I love, love dim sum! The love the special surprise of what shows up in the little food trolley. I love the smells and picking out foods simply because they look delicious. This place was always packed with a waiting list. Not anymore, now you get greeted and sent to a table where u must download the menu (don't grab the paper menu at the front, you will be very disappointed because they ran out or just don't offer it that day). The Wi-Fi is slow so you sit there for 3 minutes waiting to find that they have ran out of all the things you came to get. My biggest disappointment was window shopping, there is no more carts coming around teasing you with food and new ideas to try. Guess I'll be looking for a new place to take my eyes and taste buds for a ride. Btw, the food was good (I ordered only what I could remember that I liked) but honestly GW sells all this stuff and I could have done this at home.

Cat L.

Yelp
Great spot for dimsum located inside Wheaton Mall. We went on a Sunday for lunch and it was not very busy. There are QR codes at every table and the online ordering is very easy to use. It's a nice change to see everything in one place on the menu (as opposed to traditional dimsum!) Some of my favorites were the curry chicken pastry, golden roast pork buns, shrimp rice noodle crepes, and shumai. Everything came out quickly and was steaming hot.

Yelp
Despite a really challenging first experience with Hollywood East Cafe, I eventually decided to give the restaurant another shot when one of my friends recommended that we try dim sum and we struggled to find a place with as many pescatarian and vegetarian options as Hollywood East. To my pleasant surprise, the second time around wasn't nearly as traumatizing as the first! My initial impressions of Hollywood East Cafe were fearful that I would repeat my prior experience -- it's still in the basement of a giant shopping mall, which doesn't exactly breed the most confidence in its authenticity, and the place was completely empty when we arrived (granted, we did come a bit later, at about 1:30 PM on a Saturday, so perhaps it was just an off hour). They didn't have dim sum carts, and instead we just ordered our dishes off of our phones (or, eventually, when we started ordering more, we just told the server), but the food came out suspiciously fast...within mere minutes of us placing the orders, as though it had either been reheated in the microwave or kept under a heat lamp the entire time. Despite all of these initial red flags, the food was surprisingly pretty solid, particularly their steamed dishes! Their shrimp chang fen was quite tasty -- the noodles were smooth and thin, and were cooked a near-perfect length of time, and the shrimp inside was still juicy and springy. Their shrimp crystal dumplings (har gao) were also quite refreshing and had a phenomenal ratio of shrimp to wrapping. The pescatarian dim sum items weren't quite enough (although they did have a really expansive menu of seafood options), so I ended up ordering one of their fish entrees for the table. I was indecisive about what to order, so I asked the server to select the most authentic steamed dish...she recommended the steamed whitefish fillets with mixed vegetables which, while tasty, was quite plain and definitely not anywhere close to authentic. Even so, it was still tasty and nutritious, and the rest of the dim sum items we sampled were delightful, so no complaints there! My (non-pescatarian) friends also tried out their fried taro balls, short ribs, and steamed pork buns, and they had glowing reviews of each one, particularly the pork buns (I think we ended up ordering three or four orders of them to be split between three people). We also tried out their egg custard buns, which were wonderful and not overwhelmingly sweet. All in all, I'm grateful that I gave Hollywood East Cafe another chance and had a really delightful meal! There are still definitely better dim sum options across DC, but this one is a solid choice.

Yelp
One of my worst experiences at restaurants. There were six of us including a birthday woman. We dined at the Chinese restaurant, Hollywood East. First they didn't bring the birthday woman her dish and waited for 35 minutes to say that they could not prepare it as they didn't have all the ingredients. Next they didn't serve three of us brown rice even though we asked for it. Next they didn't bring my partner's dish even though they promised it several times for almost an hour. Yes, it came out an hour later but not until I entered the kitchen and complained. When they brought out her dish, it was very greasy with an overdose of msg. The waiter promised three separate checks as we were three couples but instead told us afterwards they could not do that because we should have ordered through an app which no one told us about nor could they give us an itemized printout. Yet after five minutes of complaining, they brought out separate checks with itemized printouts. When they brought out the checks, they charged us 25% more than the menu prices. They claim that the menu had the pre covid prices. They also charged me three extra, dollars for a third bowl of rice that was not ordered . While we were leaving the restaurant, they claimed that one of our party didn't pay his bill for him and his wife. However I witnessed his paying for it as well as adding a tip.

Jacob P.

Yelp
There's no way the food here is fresh... I came here for dim sum and the food is either too salty or tastes like it was frozen for a long time. Go somewhere else for dim sum. I can't speak for their other menu entree items.

Jessica L.

Yelp
We love Hollywood East and have been going for many many years. This place has been great through the pandemic- we usually get carry out. This time though we ate inside (1st time anywhere in 2+ yrs) and it was just as delicious of course. Dim sum all day is the best! The ordering is on your phone and you open a tab so you can order more as needed. The tables are spread apart and even with others there we didn't feel uncomfortable. Get the shrimp noodle dim sum, the chicken buns, and don't forget an order of pan fried noodles with shrimp or chicken. Some of our favorites for sure.

Leo H.

Yelp
They are reheating dim sum, not prepared in kitchen. The steaming bun inside was even cold. Don't go.

Christine L.

Yelp
I've been on a hunt for good dim sum since oriental east closed down, and saw this place. This place is pretty easy to get to and is very spacious. Everyone seemed very friendly. I went on Saturday after Chinese New Year (CNY), and I guess they were planning to do a lion dance at 11am. We got there right when it opened at 10am. The hostess looked hesitant to sit me since she had reservations for people who wanted to eat and watch the show. I promised her I'd be out by 1030, because let's be real. I grew up with dim sum and already knew what I wanted before I even arrived. And she seemed to know that I was being serious, so she sat us down. Thank you hostess, if you're reading this! My bf and I appreciated the opportunity to eat :) The food was good. Everything was fresh, and seemed reasonably priced. It was good. If I was craving dim sum and I wanted fast and convenient service, this would be a good place. However, it isn't the same as oriental east where I'd be willing to wait an hour in line for. I also didn't see any of the veggies circling around, but maybe it was still too eqely

Samantha L.

Yelp
On Sunday, we were craving dim sum and decided to get carryout from Hollywood East Cafe. The pickup process was very organized and smooth. Our party of five shared the following: -Baked Custard Buns -Fried Shrimp Balls -Baked Roast Pork Croissants -Deep Fried Glutinous Rice Dumplings -Stuffed Eggplant with Shrimp -Steamed Shrimp Dumplings x2 -Steamed Pork and Shrimp Dumplings -Steamed Chives and Shrimp Dumplings x2 -Steamed Beef Balls x2 -Steamed Roast Pork Buns x2 -Fried Breadstick Rice Noodle Crepes -Beef Rice Noodle Crepes -Shrimp Rice Noodle Crepes -Bean Sheet Rolls with Oyster Sauce It was a nice variety. We may have over ordered but everything was delicious. My favorites were Baked Roast Pork Croissants, Steamed Beef Balls, and Beef Rice Noodle Crepes. I felt that the Deep Fried Glutinous Rice Dumplings, Stuffed Eggplant with Shrimp, and Fried Breadstick Rice Noodle Crepes tastes better when dining in than traveling 15 miles to be consumed.

L M.

Yelp
The absolute best-- has been for years. Just got carry out -- fried jalepeno garlic tofu and broccoli in garlic sauce. Perfect pairing for a vegetarian. This is my go to Chinese.

Dj R.

Yelp
The roasted bbq pork buns are the best!!!!! And the fried shrimp wontons !!!!!!!!wow!!!!

Michael S.

Yelp
You won't believe me. A mall restaurant nestled in near the Piercing Pagoda and the phone cover cart cannot be worth five stars. But this one is, trust me. At least for Dim Sum. We drove here on the weekend specifically for the Dim Sum, served until 2 PM (I think.) The trip is 240 miles round trip. Just for the food. It had to be good. This is the most well organized approach to Dim Sum I have seen. Unlike the several options here in the Richmond area, the dim sum carts are constantly restocked, constantly circulating, and offer wide varieties of dishes. The various steamed and browned dumplings, the shrimp dishes, the pork buns (!!!), the crepes, and even the egg custard tarts were all excellent. The only slight issue was getting the check. This took about 15 minutes too long. But that is a minor thing. I was slightly concerned (but rolled with it) that the order card had no pricing -- you select each bamboo or covered dish with four or five bites of something and the server just adds another tick mark on the card on your table. But at the end of the day, the three of us ate so well we had to go walk at the national zoo for several hours before we could drive home, and the cost was under $60. Will we make the trip again? Yes, at some point. Will we make a point of stopping there if within 30 miles for any reason? You betcha.

Christine G.

Yelp
My husband and I were first introduced to Hollywood East by the Culinary Historians of Washington (CHOW). The food and service were amazing, and we contnued to go back. We made an effort to order takeout during the pandemic, hoping to help the restaurant survive. Today, we ordered six or seven dim sum staples (dumplings, ribs and rice noodle crepes) to start, as well as drinks. After quite some time, we noticed that all the tables that came in after us had been served more than once. After we inquired about our food, the waiter brought us only the wrong size Chinese broccol with oyster sauce. We kept it, since we love this dish. However, nothing else came and we watched more food being delivered to other tables. Then, a random dish that we did not order or want arrived. We did not accept it. When we asked about the rest of our order, the waiter looked confused and left. After some more time, we asked for our check, paid and tipped. Apparently, this seemed odd to no one. Meanwhile, the owner and manager were socializing with one table and bringing them more food. We were not rude or demanding and our order was simple. Needless to say, we will not be coming back ever again and we will be sharing our experience with others. Maybe Hollywood East has just run its course.

Alicia K.

Yelp
Great dim sum! Easy to order and very tasty! Can't wait to go back. Got there early and so glad we did as it filled up fast.

Shana G.

Yelp
This is the second time we've ordered takeout from here in the last year. I wanted to support them because I read the article in the Washington Post & understand they have been struggling. But I will never order from here again. The last time our order was more than 45 minutes late coming out, so this time I made sure to place my order 2 hours ahead, at 3:30 for a 5:30 pickup. I'm still waiting for my order 1 hour later & they are saying it won't be ready until 7:00. No apologies, no email to let us know it'd be late.

Kimberly F.

Yelp
The FOOD is actually great...... But we had terrible service. Our server was rude to us when we asked for regular, paper menus (as opposed to using their app). We then received soup that no one ordered. (The employee just dropped it off on the table & left!.) We got our appetizers, then our entrees 30 seconds later. Did not have enough plates & silverware for all of us! We had to ask for them. Then our server never checked on us the entire time until we were completely done eating. If you go to this restaurant, get it to-go. The only reason we weren't so upset was because the food was delicious. But we will never go back and sit down there!!

Nina L.

Yelp
We dined in for a late lunch/early dinner today. We found a seat like the signage says and no one came up to us. You have to order via a website/app and pre-pay before the food comes out, which I've never done for a dine-in experience. You can order more in the app but we didn't want to after the food came out. Half the seating area was blocked off with partitions/stacked tables and I wanted to just leave but I got convinced by other reviews here to give it a try, but they must have have some nostalgia tied to this place bc it's just bad now. - Egg drop soup: super gelatinous. Flavor was good but it was goopy in a way I've never had before. The wonton crisps that came with it were inconsistent with most of it being over fried/oily and a few bits just right. - Shrimp crepes: came out lukewarm/cold and the crepe texture felt like it'd been sitting out for awhile - Steamed shrimp har gow: lukewarm/cold and didn't look or taste fresh. - Shrimp shumai: too salty and also cold - Egg rolls: hot but too salty. May have been fried twice bc of how dark it was aka it was sitting out and they just reheated/refried it. - Taro buns: lukewarm, not flaky, and tasted like potatoes and not like taro - Curry pastry: came out late. The waiter forgot about it and asked us if we got ours earlier and we said no not yet. And he handed this to us saying 'oh ok have this, someone was asking'. I think someone from the back kitchen had to remind him that we ordered this.... which we ordered all at the same time. It was hot but they probably reheated it bc it'd been sitting out in the kitchen until we were almost done with the rest of our food. This was the only dish we ordered that tasted alright.

Adam S.

Yelp
This place used to be one of our regular spots. Last year on Christmas they closed orders early so this year we planned accordingly and ordered on December 23, with a scheduled pick up time of 6pm. When I arrived takeout orders from 4:30 pm were still not out yet amidst a crowd of 40+ hangry diners. When new customers arrived, there was a 20 minute line to cancel orders. After waiting a while, I got in line when I got an email at 6:30pm that my order would be ready around 7:30pm. Everyone loses.

Justin H.

Yelp
Fresh and cooked def stop by, especially in this mall strip. Food is authentic. Don't stop at panda express eat here

Tami W.

Yelp
I am SO disappointed in Hollywood East Cafe. i've bragged about it for many years. Two weeks ago I went and the combination fried rice hardly had any meat at all it was truly all rice. Tonight I got the beef and broccoli and there was so little meat and the broccoli were soggy it was disgusting. The egg drop soup tasted just like gelatin what are you guys doing. It is Going to lose customers if you are cutting corners like this I won't be back

James S.

Yelp
Once you get past their mystifying name and focus on the Chinese food, this is a great place hidden in a so-so mall location. Alone of all other restaurants I've been to, they committed 100% to contact-less operations. You order online or by phone, then pick up your food in a threshold area where boxes with automatic lids open to reveal your order bagged for takeout. Recently, they added back an eat-in area where all ordering is done via QR codes using your smartphone. The food -- including a large array of daily Dim Sum -- is one or two solid steps up from the ordinary Chinese restaurant fare. We're especially fans of the Ling-Ling fish and the Shredded Pork with Ginger.

James J.

Yelp
Expansive and different menu choices. Excellent food and service Dinner after 3p Wed. - Fri. Early opening on weekends

Tandis H.

Yelp
Best dim sum I've had in Maryland. Mmm..delectable. I've been here twice, the first time was on a Sunday morning when the dim sum carts were making their rounds. We had very good service, a lot of friendly young people working. While I was put off by the idea of it being in a mall before ever eating here, I was pleasantly surprised at how the lack of windows doesn't really affect the ambiance that much. What struck my family was how much variety there was!! Then the quality - nothing tasted off. It was all perfectly satisfying and fresh tasting. The second time we came here was a holiday Monday morning and there were no carts, just dim sum off the menu. This was even better because we had access to alllll the options they offered. Everything here is good. This has become a must-go for my visits home!

Mary L.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were super impressed with the dimsum takeout from here. It was fresh with generous servings, and I felt very safe when picking up from the door with their advanced video monitoring service. We think it may even beat our longtime favorite Hong Kong Pearl! Hope i get to dine in the restaurant one day!

Nicola M.

Yelp
I stopped in for a quick bite to eat after shopping. I had not eaten at the new location since it moved years ago, and was pleasantly surprised. I started with the shrimp toast, which were excellent! They are topped with sesame seeds and the shrimp topping was smooth and tasty. The egg drop soup was flavorful and not too thick! For my main course, I had the hunan chicken lunch special. The Spring roll was rather boring after the delicious shrimp toast and egg drop soup. The portion of hunan chicken was generous loaded with broccoli and a savory not too spicy hunan sauce. The lunch specials were a great deal! I look forward to going back for dim s and dinner.

Naomi L.

Yelp
The food here is delicious. Also not pictured is a Long Island Iced Tea my dad ordered through the chat feature on the restaurant's website. You must order all other food items through the app. They make it easy with a clear interface. We are longtime customers of this excellent independently owned restaurant and regard it as a family staple. All the food is so very tasty and we always know the ingredients will be quality. Please give Hollywood East a try. You will love them right away.

Danny K.

Yelp
Ordered delivery. Today I learned that it is indeed very much possible for a chinese restaurant to adulterate sesame chicken. Also, where's the mein (noodles) in my chow mein? It's literally just onion sludge with pieces if fried pork. It tastes like sugar. I paid 11 whole bucks for this. That's like a chipotle with guac and honestly, I'd rather eat there, get antibiotic-resistant E. coli, and projectile vomit everything back out than eat this "chow mein." Lord jesus christ. I went through the trouble and set up an entire yelp account just to post this because the people deserve better. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

Deb G.

Yelp
Solid dim sum! The carts come by regularly and they have a nice selection. We had shumai, beef noodle, pork buns, eggplant with shrimp, veggie dumplings, and rice wrapped in taro leaves (I think?), as well as pineapple buns and red bean balls for dessert. Everything was tasty, although my favorites were the veggie dumplings and the shumai. The only thing I didn't like was the eggplant - it didn't have a lot of flavor. The service was pretty good - we had to ask for water and tea, and for our check, but otherwise food came out promptly and the servers were friendly.

Yelp
We should have been like the Goldsteins who got seated before us but arrived after us. This was Christmas Day. So I knew it would be busy but didn't realize reservations could be made. The Goldsteins made reservations. The host said it was only a 20 minute wait. It turned out to be 52 minutes. We watched an entire waiting crowd by the door clear out after they got their tables. We also watched groups of people who came after us get seated. Our group was only 3 people. After watching another group of 3 or 4 who came in after us at the 40 minute mark, I finally said to the host, that group came in after us. His response was that they made reservations. Okay, I get it. People made reservations but you have to incorporate in the queue those who didn't unless you intend to serve only those who made reservations. I was extremely disappointed in how this was handled. But if you say something, he might make you wait even longer. Twenty minutes is a big difference from 52 minutes! And what was even more frustrating was that everyone who was standing by the host's stand could see a couple sitting at their table (situated at the front behind the host's stand) with one plate of food reading their books. Yes, they brought books to read on an extremely busy day where the average wait for non-reservation holders was one hour. They were there before we arrived so I can only say that they did not order anything for over an hour and just sat their reading. I know. I stood there for 52 minutes. I'm surprised the manager didn't come by to let them know that their table was needed. This day was extremely poorly managed. There have been the rare occasion that we were dining in a busy restaurant and servers have kindly let us know that the table was needed for the next guests. We had no problem leaving promptly after that. The food was fine though many of my favorites did not make appearances. Many items also had to be ordered several times before it finally arrived. Our tea order had to be given to three different people. The jasmine tea was very faint even towards the end of the meal. It was nothing more than drinking water. Tea usually takes time to seep and gets dark at meal's end but not in this case. I hope they did not re-use the tea leaves. As others have commented, their prices are slightly high.

Yelp
Oops. I feel bad for this place. They're way over extended and should never have accepted our online order. Christmas and covid played a role. But we drove 20 minutes to find that our order was an hour or more behind schedule. Ugh. We cancelled when we got there but there was a line of 20+ hungry and frustrated customers. Several patient ones waited two hours. Yikes. Good luck, hope the restaurant survives this.

Yelp
This is a review for their dim sum ** spoiler alert ** it's amazingly bad. They use to have decent to good dim sum at both of their standalone locations. I was skeptical of why they moved to the mall and had not gone for ages, but on someone's recommendation, me and the SO decided to give it a try, being the dim sum in this area has been rather substandard. To our amazement, they managed to exceed our worst expectations and placed themselves at the bottom of the list for dim sum restaurants. We went this Sunday just before 1pm and they had the carts going around. We initially picked two items siu mai and green dumplings, as most of the items looked neither fresh nor that appetizing. Unfortunately, another few carts came by before we could sample what we got. If we had, we probably would have called it quits and asked for the check. So they we able to get us to buy another four items, the char-siu pastry, eggplant w/ "shrimp" paste, "shrimp" taro and the water chestnut cake. The only decent item was the siu mai, which was small, but passable. The other 'supposed to be hot' items were pretty much cold to stale, the eggplant was oily and wife described the filling smelling like "stinky feet" and oddly, it was breaded too. The skin on the green dumpling (see pics) was thick and doughy and disgracefully anemic, though flavor was not repulsive. The char siu pastry had way too much dough and was chewy rather than flaky - the worst rendition I've ever had, compared to just to local dim sum, not even NYC, LA, San Fran, Toronto, Vancouver, or Hong Kong. The shrimp taro was cold, chewy and had a questionable filling -even looking at the pic, it looks unappetizing. Comparably the chestnut cake was edible, besides having an old oil taste. Anyway, I think you get the idea, that this place should be avoided, unless you like to play Russian roulette with you meals. Now I wonder if the interior was dark and dingy, so you cannot get a good look at the food .... The service was not much better, they brought our water out near the end of our meal, though we only stayed for ~15 minutes, as we wanted to leave as soon as possible. Perhaps a few minutes longer because we couldn't get the attention of anyone to get our check (it wasn't busy). Staff was young and seemed inexperienced and ambivalent. When I mentioned that the food was terrible and to pass it on to the chef, the response was to dismiss the issue as being cold, saying "oh, someone forgot to put the food under the heat lamp." Or translated as "too bad for you" - no apologies or any effort to correct. In the end, the damage was $31, much "food" left of the table and a traumatic experience that will linger on for years. It is sometimes hit or miss with dim sum, but for a weekend lunch, they should be at their best. To have such a poor offering in every way at their prime time is a red flag, hard to believe this was simply a "bad" day. Far East or Gourmet Inspiration would be better bets for dim sum.

Yelp
I went to this place recently for dim sum and the food was delicious. Since Oriental East closed I've been looking for a good dim sum place and this comes pretty close. The food was delicious and I would definitely return.

Yelp
I was very excited to try this place out and had the opportunity with the Nift giftcard but a sign outside said they no longer accept it. However when asked inside I was told they do. 20 mins after we ordered the same waitress approached and apologized, said they no longer accept the card even though the sign was outside and I asked her. Since we already ordered and nothing could be done fine. The food came out 30 mins or so after we ordered. We ordered the heart of bamboo w tofu and 3 eggs with watercress or spinach?. The heart of bamboo which is a genuinely good dish was not good. It tasted like it came out of a cardboard box, that's all I tasted. The tofu was sour, this happens when the tofu is old and has been sitting around for a while. The 3 eggs dish was quite salty but that was to expected since they used salted eggs and thousand year old eggs which are preserved eggs. The service was slow, when I needed the waitress she was not around but when she gave us the check she just stood there and waited until we paid. I found that to be rude and unnecessary. All in all the food was not good nor was the service. I would not come back nor reccomend.

Yelp
I made a reservation for a family of ten for my grandfather's birthday because we came 2 years ago and had such a good experience. We were all so annoyed and disappointed when they waited to tell us that they had a new system where you had to order and pay through the phone. Which wasn't user friendly by the way. Don't get upset yet. My grandparents struggled because they weren't too familiar with technology so I offered to help and order for everyone. They charged us 20% tip automatically for EVERY transaction. If we wanted to order a can of soda, we would have to order through the system again, have a automatic 20% tip on it, and wait more than 5 minutes for the internet to work and buffer onto the next page. It doesn't stop here... he told us 3 minutes before 8pm that if we wanted to order, we needed to order by 8pm....... Why didn't you tell us at least 30 minutes before? I don't think we'll ever return here. The food didn't taste good... I think they changed their chef. Still tipped on top of everything because we are aware that businesses are suffering.

Yelp
Very good take-out experience with restaurant taking high levels of precautions during the pandemic. Food was as great as I had remembered. we got a few things from dim sum menu and the walnut shrimp.

Yelp
This place is unassumingly tucked away in Westfield Wheaton Shopping Mall. For the Lunar New Year, i wanted to grab some dim sum because I didn't get to celebrate in true ethnic style...and I wanted to feel like I was being a good Asian. However, dim sum is often served earlier in the morning on the weekends so I figured chances were low we'd hunt some down on a 7 pm on a Sunday evening. We yelped this place and we all agreed to meet at Hollywood East Cafe. When we got here, my husband (confused but also amused) asked, "are we eating a food court?!" When we walked in, we were relieved to find that it was an actual sit-down and not a counter next to Auntie Em's. score!!!! The dim sum menu was limited since it was so late. However, the steamed dishes on the dim sum menu were still available so we ordered some steamed dumplings and the beef spare ribs. The steamed dumplings were tasty. The beef spare ribs were chewy and felt like we were eating leather gloves. We ordered the shrimp dumplings in XO sauce and these were really good! It was served in some kind of fried pastry shell that was crunchy and yum! We also ordered the steamed rockfish in ginger and scallion and this was the stand out dish for me!!!Being the Asian in the group, I rolled up my sleeves and played the roll as the designated deboner for the beautiful whole fish for my beloved friends. I lovingly gave my buddies the cheek meat and rolled an eyeball or two around for the brave. So goooood! The servers were sweet and cooed at my friend's baby. The restaurant is very family friendly as we were able to bring the baby stroller right up to the round table. One star subtracted for the chocolate fortune cookies. Because chocolate? Wuuuuut?!
