"Set on a sleepy Sycamore block in Hollywood, this brick-lined cocktail and natural-wine bar is a low-key spot from acclaimed bartender Julian Cox and partner Alejandro Marchesini. Cox runs a tight nightly menu of just eight inventive cocktails — examples include a rhubarb Negroni, the mezcal-and-ginger 5th & Adams, the Tiki-inspired Doncha the Beach built with rums, liquid-nitrogen spearmint and pineapple, and Run the Jules, which uses liquid nitrogen to blast cell walls and intensify kumquat and orange flavors. Marchesini programs a roughly 100-bottle list that leans toward natural-production wines from both Europe and the U.S., favoring newer vintages. Modest but carefully prepared food from chef Leo Lanussol complements the drinks, from a charcuterie board sourced from Tesse to tangy sardines over roasted fennel and an eggplant caponata with stringy burrata and crusty sourdough. The vibe is intentionally quiet and unpretentious — inside, the sound of a slushing shaker fills the room — and the team is operating with pandemic-minded service (no bar seating, limited indoor seating and ample outdoor seating).
