I had the worst casino experience of my life at Hollywood Park Casino, and I’m saying this as someone who has visited casinos all over the world.
The moment I walked in, I realized something was off. Their blackjack tables use a strange variation of the game I haven’t seen anywhere else, it pays 6 to 5 which any blackjack player knows is horrible and that alone gives the house a huge edge, and as if that’s not bad enough, they use continuous shufflers. However, I had already driven all the way there so figured I’d at least give it a shot. As soon as I put my chips on the table, the dealer tells me I need to pay a $1 commission for every single hand I play. I’ve never in my life had to pay to play blackjack. Still, for some reason I just went along with it.
The game itself was even worse. The continuous shuffler was obviously rigged and was killing the entire table. The only time anyone had a chance was when they had a 20 or a blackjack. The dealer’s 4–6 rarely busted even though the math shows those cards are highly likely to bust. Furthermore, I watched them pull 5–6 card 21s off a 5-6 multiple times, and I’ve played enough blackjack to know how abnormal that is. It felt blatantly unfair and to be honest it sucked all the fun out of a game that is supposed to be fun.
I decided to leave blackjack and try baccarat instead, thinking it would be a better experience, because at the end of the day I enjoy gambling and I just want to have a good experience whether I win or lose. But my experience at the baccarat table was somehow even worse! I sat at an empty table while the dealer was shuffling. When she handed me the cut card, I did what I’ve done at countless other casinos and have witnessed many other gamblers doing, I swiped it through the deck with the card to find that sweet spot. Immediately, the dealer got rude, aggressively snatched the card right out of my hand, and said she’d have to reshuffle. I was so shocked! I’ve never seen a dealer react like that nor have I ever known this was even an issue.
After reshuffling, instead of handing the cut card back to me (the only player actually at the table) she asked a random person just walking by to cut the deck. That person even asked why I wasn’t cutting it, and the dealer responded “He no cut, he make me shuffle again.” right in front of me. At that point I didn’t even want to play there anymore, all that negative energy isn’t for me. So I got up and got out.
I will never be coming back to this casino. Everything from the unfair games to the hostile attitude of the staff. If you value your money, your time, or even basic respect, I strongly advise you to avoid Hollywood Park Casino.
