Holy Carrot - Review - Notting Hill - London - The Infatuation

"Portobello Road has always been painted as a little bit bohemian, but right in the middle there’s a handful of burger chains as well an intergalactic-looking restaurant on the corner. That place is Holy Carrot. So much about this vegan restaurant is intended to make you turn your head. There are smooth lines and silver furniture, cocktails are supplied by A Bar With Shapes For A Name, and when we visited, the menu had no less than three mentions of the word ‘crema’. Micro-influencers recline against the curved walls, while the rest of the clientele feels like the segment of the Notting Hill set who are really into bangles. Surfer-vibe, jewellery-clad servers will enthusiastically serve you grilled watermelon and cucumber—a wealthy adult’s version of a child’s fruit salad, for all intents and purposes—and a plate of celeriac schnitzel arrives looking like a flower bed. It’s all one-note and fine. Heavy on vinegar or light on togarashi. And the matcha tiramisu, although satisfying and notably made with Holy Carrot’s leftover coffee grinds, is just not a tiramisu. Come for a cocktail or a snack or two. It feels like you’re eating on Virgin Galactic, now. Food Rundown Grilled Watermelon, Cucumber, Seaweed, Togarashi An adult fruit salad, for all intents and purposes. Not as sweet as a can made by the man from Del Monte but, equally, not as good either. This is a refreshing bowl of cubed watermelon with a smattering of togarashi and salty dressing at the bottom. There’s not much to it. photo credit: Jake Missing Crispy Celeriac, Pickle Butter Is that a miniature meadow of wild flowers? Or are those two slightly odd discs of celeriac schnitzel with a load of leftovers from the florist thrown over them? More so the latter. This isn’t a bad plate of food but it’s a bit of an odd one. The schnitzel is fine and the pickle sauce is just whizzed vinegaryness. photo credit: Jake Missing" - Jake Missing

Stylish restaurant with a great atmosphere. We were a group of 5 and ordered a variety of dishes to share. For starters, we had the pickle snack plate & a selection of bread with three dips. We shared 4 mains, 1 side, and 3 desserts. The food was delicious and full of flavour. I’d say the portions were small and pricey. Excellent service, welcoming and kind staff.

In a city replete with great vegetarian and vegan establishments, Holy Carrot stands above them all: every single dish, from the dips to the desserts, was pitch-perfect; the tastes and textures worked wonders. Everything was memorable—including the service, which was attentive and unstuffy. (Isla, our server, was a star.) Even the cocktails were inventive and delicious. Holy Carrot? Holy crap, this place is brilliant.

Really amazing experience, kind and friendly service, incredible and consistent food, large portions, and a delicious cocktail. We felt so special on out anniversary and the staff went out of their way to check on us, accommodate our requests to end the meal by a certain time, and check in on the food (even the bartender who made an amazing cocktail)! They even took off an extra dish we’d ordered when we were too full. My non-vegan partner has said it is his new favourite restaurant in London. Thanks for a great meal and we’ll definitely be back!

Quality of food was excellent. We had the grilled delica pumpkin, artichoke schnitzel and charred sprouts to share. Each dish was delicious as was our service from Isla who was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely return

Stopped into Holy Carrott on Portobello Road on our first day in London for this trip and it was a brilliant find. We were drawn in by the name – it reminded me of our good friend back in Australia, celebrity carrot farmer Phil Lamattina – and the lunch absolutely lived up to expectations. Fresh, tasty food and friendly service made it a great start to our time in London.

Wonderful flavours in everything we tried: shakshuka, sweet-potato/corn, butterbean hummus, chilli ragu, focaccia and other bread. We also had two-for-one (lunchtime) mimosa mocktails. Creative dishes. Kudos to the chef(s). I do think they should include bread or crackers with the dips; we shouldn’t have to order bread separately, since it’s a required element of bread-and-dips. Fabulous-sounding desserts, but we’ll have to visit another time for just dessert.

Stumbled on this place whilst walked down portobello road and was able to just walk in! We didn’t realise it was a vegan establishment at first however very impressed with the food! The highlight of our visit was defiantly the almond cashew soft serve with matcha affogato I mean it was just incredible! Would come back just for that!!!
