All the Best Restaurants on Canal Street in Manhattan’s Chinatown | Eater NY

"At Holy Cow, a fast-casual spot tapping into the halal-meat trend, I liked that owner Kaveh Tabatabaie sources beef and chicken from Hal & Al in Elmont and keeps the menu tight — cheeseburgers, chopped cheese on a hamburger bun, fried chicken sandwiches, fries, milkshakes, and notably short, bulbous hot dogs that are especially delicious." - Eater Staff

Holy Cow Burgers

Google
I was hoping for decent food based on the reviews. The cheese fries were good. While the fries were served warm and got cold fast the cheese sauce was hot as for the burger well it was nasty like a old frozen patty that was reheated. My boyfriend got the chicken sandwich which he could tell had be cook and then reheated and it was burnt and nasty. Yeah not sure how the rating was high but I will tell you it wasn't closing time while it was in the evening if anything for those prices and how quiet the place was I would have expected everything fresh. But with this experience I will never visit any Holy Cow again. As tired as we were the sad truth for the $30 price tag we spent we were better off with McDonald's. But it was quiet so I suppose that something but never again.

Google
Holy Cow lives up to their name with an absolutely blessed experience every step of the way. The service is welcoming and allows you to ramble through all the great options. The food itself is 10/10 for the time it takes to order and then get it, it doesn’t make sense how good it is. Holy cow is a staple for me and my family, if it isn’t for you then you need to change that. (It being halal is also a very big plus in my eyes, quality people and quality ingredients)

Google
Holy Cow is a great spot because it’s affordable, fast, and fully halal, making it easy for anyone to enjoy a delicious meal without worry. The food comes out quickly but still tastes fresh and satisfying, perfect for a quick bite or a full meal. On top of that, the workers are always friendly and welcoming, creating a comfortable atmosphere that keeps people coming back.

Google
Holy Cow is a great choice for anyone looking for food that’s fast, affordable, and truly delicious. The dishes are fully halal, making it an easy and dependable option for those who follow halal standards. The service is friendly and welcoming, and the quick turnaround means you can enjoy a flavorful meal without waiting long or spending a lot. Overall, Holy Cow delivers convenience, quality, and kindness all in one place.

Google
Everything was very clean and delicious. It's my second time and I love the sandwiches; they're very Costa Rican and there are some different ones. I'll definitely be back.

Google
First time here and just popped in because they had incredible reviews. I can see why! The food was fresh and delicious.

Google
Ordered this through UberEats so I'm not sure what the dine in experience is like. However, the burger with holy sauce, onion rings/peri peri sauce, and vanilla milkshake was significantly more enjoyable than ShakeShack. The holy sauce is what the Shack sauce wishes it could be - unique and flavorful without being gimmicky and hollow. The onion rings appeared to be air fried, making them satisfyingly crispy without any of the usual grease. Paired with the tangy and slightly spicy peri peri sauce, it goes from savory side to a must-order. The milkshake stood out for its smooth, creamy texture without the added sugar of most fast food beverages. Again, I've developed a craving for Holy Cow Burgers' vanilla milkshake versus ShakeShack's vanilla milkshake. Genuinely a superb meal that made me rethink my preferences and I look forward to enjoying more.

Google
I had an absolutely wonderful experience! The food was phenomenal every bite had my taste buds tingling with delight. The hospitality was warm and genuine, and the service was nothing short of amazing. I felt genuinely cared for from start to finish. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place to family and friends it’s a true gem!

Yelp
So here's the good, the bad and the awesome. Though my food was AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS, I walked in and couldn't find the short rib/brisket burger on the wall menu, so I ask the lady behind the counter whose name is Misbah and she tells me they don't have a burger like that. Then I finally find it on the wall menu. Obviously she didn't understand me, which sucks. Anyway, I don't know how you can tell that the meat that was on my burger was made of brisket and short rib being it looked EXACTLY like ground beef. I expected to get a burger patty made of shredded like brisket and short rib meat, that is not what I got. I also ordered the loaded fries which she asked if I wanted pickles on top which I did and that really added amazing flavor. Both items were delicious BUT, my burger only had a half of a bottom bun, but I was home already, so I was not going back. Now for the bad; one of the guys in the kitchen was on his cell phone, leaning his ear to his shoulder to hold his phone in place. He was ALSO preparing food. He then went to put gloves on and AFTER he put them on, he then grabbed his phone to look at the screen and readjust it on his shoulder. He then proceeded to touch the food with those now contaminated gloves. I rang the bell and Misbah came out front and I told her if he is preparing my food I will not accept it. She told me she was doing my order. She then told that guy to get off the food line while on his phone and he did. The other thing, they need to do, is clean the kiosk pad that people place orders on. The fingerprints showed that that screen does not get wiped down. It needs to be cleaned several times throughout he day. The food though, was exceptional.

Yelp
HOLY COW the title alone says it all. Ordered their Holy Dog, Chopped Cheese, Onion Rings, and Boneless Wings 8 piece. First off Holy Dog. Pretty standard. It's like a friend who does a decent job in making a dog. But slapping all that relish on the middle and calling it a day is just lazy. Chopped Cheese. I know you shouldn't believe in advertisements like Mcdonalds, Burger King, etc They always be making it huge and when you get it its 2x smaller then what it suppose to be. There was barely any meat but more cheese and bun then anything else and it was supposedly on a roll? Tasted like a burger bun to me (Can't really complain on that since the bun was nice and soft) The ONION RINGS, HOLY COWWWWWW.... You don't got to be a chef to know this was fried prior and then double fried cause that was oldddddddddd as hell. That was like last nights onion rings and you take it out off the fridge and refryed... Nawing on it like its gum texture. HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE!? The Boneless Wings 8 piece... That was just a joke. Our office ordered Tenders, nuggets, and Boneless wings.... it just looks all the same. Just chopped up white meat and deep fried. One had the lemon breading and the other spicy...guess what...NONE OF THEM HAD it. The food was poorly executed. I feel bad for the owner. Whom ever is managing it. Clearly wants to go out of business.

Yelp
This review is solely based on the experience not the food. I walked in placed my order through the kiosk. Food came fairly fast. I ordered a burger onion rings and ice cream. The option for dulce de leche was on the screen however after the order was charged, I was informed that the flavor was not available, I asked for a lid, the lady completely ignoring me proceeds to try to jump on to another customer , then states she doesn't have a lid and proceeds to put another cup on top of my icecream, which eventually ended up on the floor outside the store because it was not a real lid and slid right off. Also the paper bag broke and fell with my burger and onion rings in it. For $27, her attitude and this experience left a very bad taste in my mouth.

Yelp
My aunt had brought some of their beef sliders for us to try at home. They were simple but quite tasty- I'd be up for trying more items from here with my family as they enjoyed it too. It is a bit on the pricier side but it is halal and the quality is great so IMHO, still worth it :).

Tonja W.

Yelp
The burgers and chicken sliders were a hit for my students. They absolutely loved the change...normally its easier to order pizza. The French fries were good, but the onion rings were THE BOMB. My co-workers enjoyed the left overs and it was a good time.

Sam D.

Yelp
Man oh Man am I happy I took a chance on this spot! What a great find! I placed a big lunch order on behalf of my company and let me tell you, everything from the service to delivery to the food was TOP NOTCH. Literally everyone enjoyed the food! The sides, the sauces, cheeseburgers, chicken burgers, even the plant based chopped cheese burgers were a big hit! I enjoyed it so much I came back on July 4th to pick up a personal order for my family! This restaurant will now be apart of my food rotation. Special thanks to Afzal for going ABOVE and BEYOND. Holy Cow of Elmont... keep up the good work, service, and quality! See you soon

Yelp
I tried calling to order a burger with three beef patties bacon and cheese. It didn't go well. Apparently no one that works there knows how to make three burger patties on ya buns with bacon and cheese. It literally baffled the entire store. I'm not making this up. They didn't understand this order as described three burgers with cheese and bacon on a bun. They claimed this wasn't on the menu. They went as far asking me what kind of burger is that. I mean this isn't something i invented. This is the only burger in the history of burger joints that has no idea what Tripple cheese burger with bacon is. It was complete check mate. They were bewildered. What ever do don't tell them that Tripple cheese burgers with beef bacon exist. You're going to blow their minds.

Yelp
Here is a quick review: I stopped in for lunch to Go and this did NOT disappoint. I ordered onion rings and a chopped cheese sandwich on a hero. Onion rings were crispy, crunchy and included a side of Holy sauce. The chopped cheese was a winner, seasoned & chopped up burger, cheese, mixed with grilled onion, on a hero. I was only able to eat half of the sandwich with the amount of food they gave me. I'm looking forward to leftovers. I will try to remember to take a picture before inhaling the food next time empty wrappers just aren't as fun. 5/5 stars!

Yelp
Classic burger and small fries it was for dinner. I asked for the sauce on the side, just in case it wasn't my thing; mayo is my go to. Ordered through Grubhub so it would be a surprise to see if my special request was followed. Fast forward and dinner arrived. I was so impressed with the packaging. Both items placed in sturdy little boxes to protect the food. The classic burger looked quite small, however it was more than enough to fill me up, let's not forget very tasty. Sauce was on the side and delicious. It went on the burger. Fries were plentiful and crispy. This was a small order I'd dread to see a large. The only reason for my four stars is the box the burger came in was saturated in grease. The bottom of the bun was covered in it. I love a juicy burger but when there is so much grease you have to wash your hands before you touch something that's too much. I hope they'll rectify that somehow because they definitely have a great product, packaged well and full of flavor.

Yelp
They need ti get rid of the cashier ASAP! Had such a bad attitude. Food is pretty crappy with out the sauce. When you ask for the sauce they make sure to tell u its $1 or w.e like np ill pay just give me the sauce. Personally would never go back $75 wasted

Yelp
So came in to dine in ... and got a few burgers. I flip the burger to check the bun underneath and there was mold!!!!
google avatar

claudia c.

Yelp
The food was good. This is the first I'm eating it. The service was fast and I went around midnight so nobody was really there, but still's place is big and clean.
google avatar

Fateha A.

Yelp
The burger is good, nothing special. Not Shake Shack level. It's a classic cheeseburger with cheese, lettuce, onion.

Kayla A.

Yelp
I tried to give this place a chance again and look ... MOLD ON THE FOOD . Shut this place down !!!!
google avatar

Arshia M.

Yelp
Stopped by here for my sister's birthday. The place was pretty empty and we were able to find a table easily. We ordered a chicken sandwich, 2 burgers and tots. The food was decently flavored. We enjoyed our meal as the restaurant was empty. It is a bit pricey and also a little far from where I would normally go out to eat. I would recommend this spot to try at least once. Other than that I feel like the lack of patrons in the restaurant really makes me wonder if this place is actually that good or not.
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
What in the world! We ordered a gyro and we get a frozen package of gyro meat?! How did this happen? Is this joke? Very confused and no sauce with the chicken tenders? Never again!!!

Anna C.

Yelp
The worst 70$ I just spent. Legit throwing out the food Food is meant to give a healthy person a heart attack with all the salt in it . We tried the beef and chicken burgers And the fries. So disappointed
google avatar

Latisha J.

Yelp
The atmosphere was just ok. Nothing to write home about and the service was meh. But the food was good. I'm dairy free and from Baltimore and there are no options for to mix and match meat with dairy free options so I'm appreciative for this. I ordered the chicken sliders and sweet potato bites.
google avatar

Erica L.

Yelp
Food is great. Gluten free options loved by young and old member of my family. Good service and pleasant atmosphere.
google avatar

Niecey D.

Yelp
Gluten Free options for me! I've had a chopped cheese and I've had the regular burger Halal too! Yayyy When they lock down some GF HeroRolls, I'll giving out hugs. The fries are yummy. The hours are accommodating. I am appreciating.

Sara T.

Yelp
Burgers are pretty good over here. They got beef, chicken, and turkey. I had holy cow burger double patty and single. Burger was juicy, cheesy, and pretty tasty. For cheese fries the cheese was put in separate. Chicken sliders were an amazing addition. Holy beef/ chicken Sliders are small but they come in 2,4,6. I will be coning back to try more items like Philly cheesesteak , turkey sandwich, and popcorn chicken next time. Overall rating 8/10

Yelp
New favorite spot.. chicken tenders and impossible burger are great, and they have Van Leewan

Yelp
Wanted to try this spot for a bit. Seeing a bunch of great reviews. Saw some random IG food pages hype it up.. but its just hype. I ordered the "Chopped Cheese," and it was anything but chopped. It was like a sorta chopped up beef patty. The real problem was the flavor. It tasted like the grill and not in a good way. It tasted burnt, and greasy. I've worked in the food service industry and this was a clear sign that grill was not cleaned properly. The bread was soggy and the "Holy sauce" was meh. Lacked flavor. The Club Supreme sandwich also suffered the same faith as the chopped cheese. It was greasy, and tasted burnt. Due to it being a hot hero sandwich. It was sadly missing the "bacon" too. I added the "Peri Peri Sauce" - which was also lacking. No hint of spice or flavor. Tasted bland and of mayo. Which is off putting. Finally the "Spicy" Fried Chicken Sandwich. This was also nothing to be amazed by. Greasy, hard, and soggy bread. Nothing spicy about it. I added pepper jack cheese and the cheese felt old. Like it was sitting in the fridge exposed to the elements. This was an overall bad experience. What made it worst was the customer service. They have a rude undertone when you ask questions. Not the way to run a business. Would not come back. Parking is decent here.

Yelp
Went here on New Year's Day Bc everything else was pretty much closed. I was not impressed. Service was very slow. But worse than that. The food wasn't that good at all. For the price I paid I definitely expected more. To the point we threw out the food. After both eating 1/2 of it. I ordered the holy chicken sandwich for my wife and the holy burger for myself. I wish this business the best but I won't be going back.

Maria G.

Yelp
I got the impossible sliders which were not bad but they were missing all the toppings besides a tiny little slice of cheese. I did ask for sauce on the side but I'm confused why the rest of the toppings were missing. My boyfriend got the holy chicken sandwich which he said was mediocre and had sauce all over it. The seasoned fries were good until I realized there was a thick black hair in the box. Overall not as good as I hoped it would be.

Barbara K.

Yelp
No rating. I was supposed to go to a Fashion Show. It never happened. Wasted trip. So disappointed.
google avatar

Rebekah W.

Yelp
They need to bring back the fruity pebbles milkshake. The impossible chopped cheese is delicious but comes apart too easily. Too messy. The fries are great and crunchy. They're just so expensive. Vegan food is always overpriced .
google avatar

Ali A.

Yelp
Expensive but good.. shake was bad I mean just make it at home . Burger was great I loved it . I will def go again for burgers chicken and beef was just great.

Lily G.

Yelp
Ordered on Ubereats. The vegan chicken sandwich was delicious. Also got the vegan chicken tenders with bbq sauce, thought it would be mixed in but it was just to dip but the tenders were god awfully salty, ugh so not a fan and have to drink so much water to wash all that salt. If I order next time, I'll just order the sandwich again.
google avatar

Rashma F.

Yelp
We got the holy burger and 2 beef sliders to share and they tasted delicious. The sliders are $3 and burger options range from $7-15. Definitely order the holy sauce on the side. The spicy fries are better than most places I've ever been.

Asif R.

Yelp
There burgers are delicious and juicy. My favorite one is the roast beef sandwich with oil and vinegar sauce. They have a reward account where you get points every time you order something. Restaurant is clean.
google avatar

Maya C.

Yelp
My chopped cheese was AMAZING and so fresh and well seasoned. Definitely hit the spot. The sweet potato tots were also really good.

Amanda B.

Yelp
Love love loveeeee this place!! My favorite place to order from by far!! They have great quality food! I mainly get the impossible burger and I've tried a lot of impossible burgers Holy Cow has the best one I've ever tried! My boyfriend loves their food as well. The sliders, chicken tenders, chopped cheese, and fries are amazing! This place is 10/10.
google avatar

Janice A.

Yelp
Delicious fries! I usually get the chopped cheese which is messy but delicious. And they are always nice when I come in. Strongly recommend.
google avatar

Shaikh L.

Yelp
I ordered a holy burger and a holy chicken sandwich. After trying the holy burger I was disappointed as the bread was stale and hard which ruined the whole taste. The patty was very flavorful otherwise. As for the holy chicken sandwich same the bread was stale and hard the chicken was very flavorful. I felt the chicken was better but both was equally bad due to the bread which is 50% of the meal so naturally was a bad experience. Perhaps the NYC location is better who knows but won't go out of my way to try it as I did for this place.
google avatar

Shahzad S.

Yelp
Amazing food. Great cheese burger sliders, and an awesome NY cheesesteak. Glad I don't live near this place, or i would gain 50 pounds.

Arqam C.

Yelp
Food is great. But the customer service and the girl working the front is the worst. She doesn't know anything about the rewards and if you ask her something by mistake, she gets so upset.
google avatar

Majid R.

Yelp
Food was good. But $15 for a steak sandwich is too much. You can find the very same sandwich for average $8 from almost every halal spot. Staff should also practice wearing masks. Your condiments needs work too. Hot sauce taste straight from red devil hot sauce bottle. Make it unique.
google avatar

Kavel L.

Yelp
Holy Cow in Elmont NY is the best place to get your impossible burger . Great service and oh yeah great prices. Thanks again Felicia, you guys have a customer for life ....
google avatar

Kurtney A.

Yelp
Cashier friendly and took time to suggest menu items. Holy chicken and cheese fries were a hit !!

Corey H.

Yelp
Great place for a vegan burger, I tried the impossible chopped cheese and their impossible sliders. Their slider have a flame broiled taste which made it taste unbelievably good and their chopped cheese had lots of flavor, I couldn't believe it wasn't meat. And their onion ring and fries were also good.

Riyaad A.

Yelp
You guys need to use better Buns. Try to use Brioche or potato buns. The current buns you use are not good.... Also why are your burgers So soggy??? Trying to eat your burger is tedious everything falls apart. These are not gourmet: reminds me of Wendy's fast food trash burgers. Overpriced $11 burger ... when it's a dollar menu burger at best
google avatar

Meher M.

Yelp
My friends always raved about the burgers from here and they were right! So great to have a Long Island location. My friends and I ordered a bunch of burgers last week but accidentally got one less. We spoke to the manager and she assured us that we can come back for it anytime so I went back today and actually got a full meal on them instead! The staff was so sweet and gave my fiancé and I the best burgers ever!! Highly recommend the place! Thank you!

Jackie D.

Yelp
Food is always great. Hands down best onion rings around! Wish they would fix their Grubhub app though, give us the menu stop teasing us!

Mary C.

Yelp
Their food is really good, but 1. hair in my food 2. attitudes, eye rolling, 3. dirty !! & last but not least i ordered an impossible burger and got real meat.

Paula R.

Yelp
Had the holy burger and seasoned fries. The fries were good and you get a good portion The burger was fantastic. Well seasoned but not salty. Also juicy, I've had to many flat and dry burgers. This wasn't at all. I will definitely be back. I also got two dipping sauces, both were really good. One was spicy but not bad. I really liked both.
google avatar

Bina K.

Yelp
We drove all the way from Long Island half an hour and it was TOTALLY WORTH IT! The service was EXCELLENT natasha was the sweetest girl with the cutest Guyanese accent, the food was prepared with so much love you could literally taste it!!!! Will be back soon !!! IA

Randolph B.

Yelp
Terrible everything was freaking horrible sold me warm milk shakes that weren't even full cups

Aymal A.

Yelp
this place was awful, service was atrocious and food was even worse, lady didn't show us the day of time and would often be running from the kitchen to the front, meanwhile there was a line piling up and phone calls coming in. We had waited a full hour for the food and the food came in cold on top of that the chef wasn't even there until 30 minutes into our 1 hour wait time, overall i do not recommend this location neither this food branch if you want good food go to addys restaurant down the street.
