Battersea’s Best Restaurants | Where to Eat Near Battersea Park | Eater London

"Holy Cow, to go out on a limb, might be Battersea’s best restaurant. The food is spicy and authentic considered, miles and miles away from any middling mediocrity (and indeed, central London.) The parbat lamb is thick with courgettes and garlic, aromatic and sensuous; the murg dhansak properly fragrant and tangy; the biryanis taste like the ones found just north of Delhi." - Josh Barrie

Holy Cow Fine Indian Food

Google
Smallest portions ive ever seen ! Flavour less pieces of chicken in a more flavourless curry sauce ( if you can call it that ) , just a tasteless lumpy sauce , nothing like a butter chicken , it should be a crime to call this dish butter chicken ! Papadams were below average too ! Basically a ready made curry from your local super market is much better than this ! Certainly looked like one ! Waste of money !

Google
Very generous with the poppadoms and pickles, 4 onion bhaji/pakoras, butter chicken and pilau rice were nice. The butter chicken was less sweet than others I have had and the peshwari naan was delicious. Really cost effective too due to 40% discount over £25 which I didn’t notice until check out so that’s was a nice surprise.

Google
Honestly really really good food and very friendly service in there. I get delivery from there all the time but I decided to pick up this time and it is honestly amazing. Would definitely recommend!

Google
I cannot recommend Holy Cow Indian Food due to a very frustrating experience with their billing practices. We ordered from a menu with specific prices, but when the bill arrived, it was significantly higher than expected. When we questioned the discrepancy, we were told that the menu prices had increased, yet they also claimed to have applied a discount, which made no sense. I immediately requested a refund due to the lack of transparency and trust. Initially, the lady in charge refused, claiming the manager wasn't available and providing various excuses about needing to follow specific processes that prevented her from issuing a refund immediately. It felt like a runaround. Eventually, after mentioning that we would report the issue and leave a review, she "magically" figured out how to process the refund. This experience was incredibly dishonest and left a very bad impression. I advise caution when dining here and recommend carefully checking your bill.

The food here is amazing! The service too has been exceptional by Amrit Acharya and Arjun Gurung. They have been very personable and familiar in catering to my requests

The food is very tasty! Will definitely be ordering from them again. 10/10

Google
Delicious. Num, num, num. Every thing is good. I particularly adore the Chana Masala, Tandoori mixed Kebab with Keema Naan and spinach. Loads always left over for the next day.

Google
Had chicken korma which is usually good but tonight the chicken was overcooked, stringy with no taste which l eventually put in the bin, really disappointed 😥

Yelp
Food arrived in less than 30 minutes - incredible. Lamb bhuna was good albeit tiny pieces of lamb and way too many pieces of other shit floating around. Same goes with the chicken tikka masala - nowhere else in I've tried adds huge chunks of green peppers and large slices of onion to the gravy because both of those things are revolting. Who on earth bites into a piece of green pepper, disguised by the thick red sauce to look like a piece of chicken, and is pleasantly surprised? Generally good quality food, far better than most of the local takeaways, but just not that satisfying. Ate too much for the sake of eating. Realistically 3.5 stars but this is a round-down situation.

Yelp
Best Indian take away in London. And they deliver! For free! And the food gets to you hot and steamy! High quality ingredients, delicate spices, never too heavy or greasy. This place is one of my London favorites, and hands down favorite for lazy evenings in.

Yelp
The worst customer service I have ever encountered. It took something really special to motivate me to write my first review on Yelp, despite using the app for almost a decade -- it took the hard work and ineptitude of one man to really light a fire. My girlfriend had been talking up Holy Cow for weeks. Finally we had a quiet Sunday planned, all around dinner and a movie. We called ahead and asked if they could deliver to my post code. They wanted to check the address, said it was fine and took the order. We started the movie and waited. An hour passed, nothing. Eventually the phone rang. My girlfriend answered it - only to be immediately berated by the 'manager' for even trying to have it delivered to our address. She had to yell over his shouting to remind him she had asked that very question when we placed the order. He said we were rude for not respecting him and his drivers. Again we reminded him, it was the first question WE had asked when we called to place the order. Even so WHY did it take him an hour to tell us he couldn't? And why was he blaming us when it was obviously a mistake he had made. He said he'd send it but he'd make sure it was cold. Great. Thanks. The nights already ruined. Only 30 minutes later he called again to say he wouldn't be delivering it at all. What horribly atrocious customer service. Do not waste your time on this terrible place - do what we did, order from Palace Spice instead.

Yelp
took them over 90 minutes to deliver a curry, they told me it would be an hour....they then accused me of lying, these people have no customer service skills and DONT give a damn about you!!! DO NOT USE THEM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES...COMPLETE RIP OFF...................

Yelp
My friend and I ordered delivery from Holy Cow one wild Saturday night (and by wild I mean we stayed in, drank wine, and watched cheesy movies). We ordered a ton of food and all of it came in cute, spill-free, organized packages-- I'm such a sucker for creative packaging! We ordered: --the lamb rogan, which was spicier than I expected but seriously delicious --murg masala (basically chicken tikka masala)-- delicious AND the chicken was still tender and perfectly cooked --palak: good but not memorable --naan and garlic naan: yum The portions were perfectly sized and they clearly used fresh, wholesome ingredients. Usually, a jumbo sized portion of Indian food can signify poor quality (I've found that to be true with Chinese food as well). It was the perfect amount of food and a mango lassi and a coconut lassi to top it all off, were both delicious of course.

Yelp
Holy Cow delivers great Indian food - period. Seriously, this is restaurant quality stuff and absolutely gorgeous. I ordered with some friends on a Friday night and it didn't take longer than the 45 minute quoted waiting time. Everything we ordered was fresh and tasty, including a great lamb jalfrezi and a chicken tikka. Great food, great times. Would highly recommend.

Yelp
I concur with the other reviewers - this is the best Indian delivery place in London. And I live in Tooting. There are some brilliant places I will go and collect a takeaway, choosing from what's been cooked that day which is always nice... but for a faultless (if INCREDIBLY fattening) Indian, I'd choose Holy Cow every time. They have all the usual but please try some of the less common dishes as they're wonderful. There's one with courgette in - sorry I don't have the menu to hand! - which was great. Whenever there's a group of us, we order a bunch of stuff and just dig in and there's never anything left over. Unfortunately it's so popular their delivery times are long so order early.

Yelp
After a couple of recommendations I ordered online for delivery on a Saturday night and received the food within the hour. We ordered chicken Bhuna and lamb tikka masala which were both on the cold side- we had to reheat them in the microwave. We also had poppadoms and a peshwari naan, which unfortunately was cold and quite soggy.. Once reheated, the curries were both really tasty and I was impressed with the quality of the meat, particularly the large chuncks of chicken breast in the Bhuna. Overall the food was very good quality, but as I live within 2 minutes of the restaurant I was disappointed that the curries and naan were not piping hot. Also the prices here are slightly higher than other Indian takeaway's in the area.

Yelp
My first couple of orders from Holy Cow were delicious - really amazing Indian food, although pretty expensive. However, since then I've had some bad experiences! Orders would arrive late, with dishes missing and/or cold. Because the food was so tasty, and I'd had good experiences in the past, I gave them another chance.... My last delivery was over an hour and a half late - no more chances I'm afraid - I've switched allegiance to Bombay Bicycle and so far so good!

Yelp
My favourite go-to curry place. Very friendly staff and they always give out a free pappaderm (sp?). Free delivery but a little expensive, so for a special take out night ;-) My only thing I would change is that it's not spicy enough! But maybe that's just my strange/sadistic desire for spicy food.

Yelp
Very creditable delivery had from here, with the staff accomodating to a dinner companion's demands for modifications to ingredients. Definitely superior to the last couple of very disappointing efforts from the Bombay Bicycle Club.

Yelp
Incredible Indian food. The name doesn't really shout Indian, but Indian(ish) this sure is mmmm. I'm not really a fan of curries because of the way they make you feel afterwards - fat, sick and bloated! They are generally pretty unhealthy and I try to stay away opting for sushi or thai instead (unless I'm drunk)... but the Holy Cow really is the business! And if you love curry or even don't love curry, you HAVE to get one from here. They are a healthier take on the regular Indian takeaway, but absolutely perfect flavours, spices and beautifully cooked shellfish (and meat, according to my meat eating friends!) Gorgeous veggie side dishes like Daal Hariyali - Mixed lentils cooked with spinach leaves and Parbale Daal - Black Lentils cooked with ginger, garlic, cumin seeds and special Nepalese herbs are just some of the options on the extensive menu. A real favourite main dish of mine is the Kind Prawn Jafrani - tandoori king prawns marinated with various spices, cooked in masala sauce. It's all really yummy, you have to try it! I'll put money on it you'll be back for seconds.

Yelp
Holy Cow is a cute name for a curryhouse and I was very excited about giving them a whirl. When I went in to pick up a menu from the battersea branch I was amazed by how good it smelt in there. I have never been to an Indian takeaway place that smelt so mouthwateringly good. I tried them out for the first time last night and it was pretty good. The food was good value and the service was fine. The food was really tasty and well spiced. I did feel absolutely sick afterwards but this was most likely due to me being a total greedy-guts and a compliment not derision on their food! Certainly worth a try

Yelp
Apparently Gordon and Tara Ramsey swear by The Bombay Bicycle Club Takeaway in Battersea. Oh dear it is really piss poor and actually inferior to chilled curry's from supermarkets. I would like to recommend Holy Cow to the Ramsey's which has another branch in Blaham and unlike The Boybay Bicycle (built up by Clapham House from a one off original to mutiple take away hubs and restaurants ). The ingredients are excellent - good quality chicken , lamb as opposed to ancient cheap mutton and superb vegetables be they aubergines , okra as well as pulses lentile and chick peas. You can request variable spicing and in effect a bespoke high class takeaway.

Yelp
I ordered the #36 Murg Madurai and it was on point. Great flavor and spicy, but not too hot to where you can't enjoy it. I'm sure you could ask for them to make it spicier if that's your thing. I even asked for some rice on the side and they were kind enough not to charge me for it. At a price of £8.85 and just a few blocks walk away, it was an easy and ultimately satisfying decision. Oh yeah, there was a good amount of chicken as well. I saw one review on here that complained about that, but I am guessing they've addressed that concern.

Yelp
Holy...... why did my food take so long to get here! This "fine Indian food" restaurant has an amazing delivery menu, really mouthwatering. In it they pledge that your food will arrive at your home in no less than 45 minutes. Well I recently ordered from it and it took more than one hour and a half to reach my doorstep. The delivery guy was clueless, and I can tell you I don't live in a strange junction of London. Taking that bit of my chest, I can move on to the food. It is really good, we ordered the King Prawn Jafrani, and it was cooked to perfection, crunchy prawns, creamy spicy masala sauce, lovely. I would also recommend the Tandoori mixed grill, it's for two, and its enough food to leave you satiated. The only thing is that having so many options for Indian delivery. Im not sure I would order again, only for the time they took to deliver. I've not been to the restaurant I hope the service is better.

Yelp
We have Holy Cow delivered at least once a week, the food is always fresh and tasty our firm favourites: - the cod curry (quite hot but oh so tasty!) - the chicken murg massala The prawn curry is good but expensive and but not as nice as the cod curry. I like that they always include free popadoms and a small sauce to go with it. They have delivery places all over south west london (we have used Putney, Fulham and Balham) and they are all equally as good. Try it out you wont be disappointed.

Yelp
I used to love the curries from this place but we have just ordered a takeaway and it will be my last one. I ordered 4 poppadoms and the person taking our order told me that I would get them free with my order as it was over £40. The order came with 2 poppadoms. I also asked for chutneys etc to go with it and Raita to go with the meal. The raita cost £1.55 so I was expecting a generous portion but the pot that turned up contained at most 2 tablespoons of yoghurt and that approximation is being over-generous! The prawn dish we had only had 3 prawns in it and they were overcooked and mushy at that. It was basically a container of the kind of nondescript sauce that bad curry houses are famed for and for this they charged us £11.75! The rest of the order wasn't fantastic either - sparse with tough meat and very small portions for the price. I am happy to pay more for better quality but VERY unhappy if I feel the quality is not up to par. We phoned to complain and The Holy Cow was fairly unsympathetic and basically said we would have to speak to the manager to get the unsatisfactory items knocked off our bill. We are still waiting for him to call back and frankly I can't really be bothered to spend my Friday night endlessly justifying why their food was substandard. I will be throwing their menu in the bin and I suggest you do too.... and go to a better take away. There are loads in the area.

Yelp
Tried this place and it's absolutely disgusting!! Their toilets, which I was allowed to use, were filthy and right next to the kitchen. The chef, just stepped out of them before me, with his hat on, and didn't even to bother washing his hands... I would never eat from there or recommend to any friends of mine... was so put-off!! Regards, Tom & Celia

Yelp
This was my last meal in London. We had a feast of Indian delivered to the flat... It was fresh and delicious and they were very generous... Mmm

Yelp
The ONLY highlight to a marathon (and gruelling) exhibition schedule in London, I can't recommend this place highly enough. I have been raving for months to anyone who'll listen about Holy Cow and I await their Brighton branch (hint hint) with excitement.

Reviewer H.

Yelp
Food is good. Online order service is terrible. I ordered a meal, it confirmed in the system with a 30 minute wait. An hour later, it didn't arrive. I called them and they claimed it wasn't in their system even though I could see that it was. Had to redo my order and wait another hour. No apologies, just shifting of blame to other branches. Pretty poor in my opinion.

Tatiana O.

Yelp
Our go-to Indian delivery. It's delicious every time without exception. Quick and friendly service. You can't go wrong.

Edward C.

Yelp
Good food BUT always late, awful customer service. I have ordered a few times, it's always been late and when I call up no one ever bothers to apologise. I stopped using them when I waited over 2 hours and nothing had turned up when they had told me it would only be 45 mins, when I called they said it hadn't left yet - so to keep me quiet they told me my next order was free. When I called again they told me I was lying and refused to give me any discount! I have sent an email and called to complain - no response! Do not use! I would recommend either the Bombay Bicycle Club or Rajah Rowing Team, great food and what's best you can ask for only a little oil when cooking, really tasty.
