My experience at Holy Cross Hospital was overwhelmingly negative and unacceptable. Upon arrival, it took over 7 hours just to confirm and receive my medical workup from my Kaiser doctors. That delay alone caused unnecessary stress and discomfort.
The majority of the nursing staff demonstrated terrible bedside manner and a complete lack of professionalism. Nurses discussed and worried me about my blood test results before the doctor had even spoken to me, which is inappropriate and alarming for any patient—especially someone already in pain.
The only positive aspects of my stay were Nurse Sia (5th floor) and Nurse Stephanie. Nurse Sia, in particular, showed compassion, professionalism, and helped keep me calm during a very stressful time. Without these two nurses, my experience would have been unbearable.
For the rest of the nursing staff, I repeatedly had to raise my voice and demand that they actually read my chart instead of treating me like just another patient. Nearly every time, they returned apologizing after realizing their mistakes. This should not happen in a hospital setting. Patients should never have to fight to be treated appropriately.
The hospital bed was extremely uncomfortable. If it weren’t for my family bringing items from home, my ER visit would have been even more miserable. While I was in pain, what upset me most was the constant unprofessional behavior of the staff.
Post-surgery, it took 2.5 hours to transport me back upstairs. Despite repeatedly asking them to call and check, they couldn’t locate my chart for over an hour. This level of disorganization was so distressing it brought me to tears. I was even forced to use a bedpan when I didn’t need one, which was humiliating and unnecessary.
All nurses—regardless of experience—need immediate retraining in bedside manner, communication, and patient respect. Every patient is different. We are all in pain, vulnerable, and deserve dignity and individualized care.
If you have a loved one needing hospital care, I strongly suggest thinking twice before coming here. Remember, Holy Cross is run by Kaiser Permanente on a larger scale, and unfortunately, that showed in the worst ways.
If it weren’t for Nurses Sia and Stephanie, this hospital would have been facing a negligence lawsuit from me. Do better. Patients’ lives, comfort, and trust depend on it.
