15 Top Sports Bars in San Diego for Football Season - Eater San Diego

"While its sister sports bar and neighborhood pub in Old Town has been a crowd-pleaser since 2015, Home & Away’s Encinitas outpost promises to be the new game day go-to in North County. There are multiple TVs dotted around the bar and a menu of good eats and drinks, from tacos, sandwiches, and burgers, to cocktails including boozy pitchers: British Pilgrim and Mr. Toast’s Wild Ride." - Keri Bridgwater

Came into Sago super excited about the new spot and loved the ambiance. Unfortunately that is all it was. We went out for a girls night out and the experience put a damper on the entire evening. We waited 20 mins to be greeted by a server , first round of drinks we amazing (N9) the second round of the same drinks were horrible, watered down & sour and waiting 25 mins to receive them. Had to get a manager involved and he ended up taking care of the second round. Food was underwhelming, for the price point .. not worth it . We ordered the oysters, tune tartare, salmon & margarita pizza . The oysters were very fishy and did not have a good taste, the salmon was very undercooked & the best part of the tartare was the crackers that came with it . To make matters works 3/5 of my friends including me ended up getting food poisoning and have been sick all day . Would not recommend unless you want to lay in bed all day sick to your stomach . Super disappointing .

It is nice to see this restaurant open again and people enjoying their food and drinks. It must’ve been tough not having any outdoor seating during such a challenging time. The menu has Tacos, Wings, Burgers and Ceviche, and it is all very tasty. It’s a super chill environment with plenty of televisions to watch the game, giant open windows to watch people walking by, and a very friendly team that work there. Upstairs is a private bar that’s only open on the weekends. And they feature the signature beers from Thorn and cocktails from Rebru. This time I got the shrimp ceviche, Korean barbecue wings and as always, I got their homemade tater tot’s. All very good.

Pretty good fish tacos and very good beer. A little bit quiet on a Sunday night but that's alright. Bartenders were friendly (and cute) so that was a plus

Google
Came here to leave a review because I saw so many negative ones. I was nervous that we made the wrong choice, but tbh just got back and everything was awesome! Super cute and trendy vibe. Amazing service, food was good. We had the tuna tartar, Brussels sprouts, pizza, and salmon. Loved the Brussels sprouts! The salmon said it was seared on the menu so it was expected it was not well done. Next time I would prob ask for it to be cooked a little longer but that’s it. Overall, super cute and def want to come back!

Went for dinner/drinks- here are a couple takeaways for people to consider and suggestions. Atmosphere and the decor is chic and a unique experience for Encinitas. The space doesn’t know what it is, and neither do the patrons. There is enough staff and tables for a full blown restaurant but there is so much ambiguity. I saw people coming in, loitering by the bar, looking confused and walking out. The space is not a full blown restaurant nor a bar. I believe there needs to be a heavier focus on one or the other for this to succeed. Regardless the Hostesses need more training on creating a high class experience for guests if people are dining. Service was extremely slow. Our waitress was so pleasant and sweet BUT here are my recommendations: the first interaction with our waitress was 15 minutes after being seated. There was a lot of staff waiting by the bar and we didn’t even receive water 10 minutes in. This meant that by the time we had our first interaction with our waitress we had decided on not only drinks, but food as well. With so much time we ordered right away and the food came out a few minutes before the first drink arrived. This will result in loss of money for the restaurant as it doesn’t give patrons enough time to start drinking their first drink, and then order another one during dinner. Our table was a great example as we only had one drink, and then decided against getting another as the dinner course had already been cleared and there doesn’t seem to be dessert available…or at least it wasn’t offered. Our sense was that the bar seems to be backed up and most likely needs streamlining to address the above issues. Lastly, please put purse hooks at tables and at the bar.

Google
Technically the restaurant wasn't open but we had a close friend pass away and they opened the spot so we could have the memorial as it was her favorite location. Thank you from the deepest part of our hearts. You made the service truly special and comfortable for all. It was a very sad evening but because of you and your team we were able to grieve with each other and celebrate the life of our dear friend. There is no way to tell you how thankful everyone is.

Google
Stopped in for drinks and some food and were pleasantly surprised! From the outside we weren’t expecting a sports bar but that isn’t the feel of it either. The food was delicious - I had The 22 and my friend had tacos for Taco Tuesday. Everyone was friendly and helpful.

Google
Had the fish tacos. Great flavors, with the added kimchi. Many screens to watch a game and seemed like a good atmosphere, not real noisy. We're just visiting but it looks like a nice local watering hole with a good menu.

Yelp
The food was incredible! By far my favorite restaurant in North County. Perfect for a date night or a girls night. My favorite was the chicken with caviar .... to die for!!! Will be going back every chance i get!

Yelp
We came to Sago in Encinitas to celebrate my mom's birthday, and it was such a great experience from start to finish. Our server, Lamar, was amazing! Super attentive, friendly, and made the whole night feel extra special. The space itself is beautiful! So lush, tropical, and totally transportive. It honestly felt like we were on vacation for the night. I ordered the #2 cocktail and loved it, it was light, refreshing, and just the right amount of sweet. When it came to the food, we basically tried almost everything on the menu, and there wasn't a single miss. Some of our favorites were the cucumber salad, pork satay, soft shell crab, and the mie goreng but really, everything was delicious. The general manager even stopped by our table a few times to check in, which really stood out and made the whole experience feel top-tier. If you're in San Diego or even just passing through Sago is 100% worth the visit. I already can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Food: 9.5/10 Service: 9/10 Ambiance: 10/10 Had a wonderful time at this Asian fusion restaurant. I will most definitely come again. My favorite was the branzino market fish and the broccolini. So good. Beautiful place

Yelp
First off, WOW! Food, service, vibes... 5/5 I can't say enough great things about the food and service. First, the service was great. Your water will never go below to a limit where you're thirsty. Bussers are constantly on the move walking around filling water and collecting any extra dirty plates. I wish I got the name of our server but she was very kind and helpful explaining what the options were at this establishment. She also went over some tasty drinks and what she would rec would be more my flavor. Always much appreciated! For the food, I would have to say everything was very flavorful and quite tasty. I was blown away with the chicken and caviar. The taste alone made my eyes bulge. Very lemon zesty and perfect breading it had to say it was probably the most tender and juicy piece of fries chicken I've ever had. If there is one tip I can give management, change the drink ware for Sake. I'd just like to say, with Sake being what it is, it should be served in a sake glass and saucer. It's a very traditional way to serve it and also, it helps me from needing to stop the bussers from putting water in my sake glass. 5/5 stars.

Yelp
Super cute little place. I remember when it was D street. We came here for drinks and small bites and everything was really good. Also, the vibes were giving tulum and backyard oasis. Definitely coming back at a non busy time or making reservations ahead of time.

Yelp
Definitely not a favorite. This place is very overpriced. The drinks are okay, the service is pretty bad honestly, and it's VERY crowded. I wouldn't recommend on going there with a party bigger than 2-3 people. The decor is pretty, but it isn't anything special.

Yelp
You guys, I've been waiting to make this review. I wish there were more stars I could give! First off, the inside is beautiful. The colors are black with emerald green and a lot of plants. There are booths all around and high tables in the middle. There is a DJ booth that starts to play at 9pm. We made a reservation for 4 people on a Saturday at 6pm. Everything ran smoothly, but please note they give you exactly 1.5 hours to eat and they will let you know when it's time to go without hesitation but in a friendly way. All servers were friendly. The guy that brought out our food always asked how we liked it and was very interested to know our thoughts. I'd say he might of been the person behind the recipes. The menu is not that big and I highly recommend you order a few items and share among your table so everyone can try everything. We ordered everything on the menu except chicken satay, greens, halibut and ceviche. My favorite was the tuna sashimi plate, the broccolini, and kimchi marble potatoes. Sounds random but trust me when I say the broccolini was the best I ever had. Drinks were also delicious, but I highly suggest No. 7 and No. 9 on the drink menu. Overall, food was to die for and drinks were delish! Do expect to spend some money. We ordered 12 food items total and 8 cocktails and the total bill came out $247 (including tip) per couple, so about $500 total. I definitely think it was worth it though.

Yelp
Sago is a full vibe -- house tech beats, Ibiza energy, and sleek ambience. The Cucumber Salad was fresh and flavorful, while the Fried Chicken Caviar came loud with bold taste. Food presentation -- Elite. Service was smooth and welcoming. Perfect spot to catch a vibe and a bite.

Yelp
Super cute place for a night out! Great for a date night or a night out with friends. The service here is great and everyone is very friendly. The food is a little bit on the pricier side but definitely great for sharing, I would recommend coming with a larger group so that you can try a ton of stuff from the menu. My favorites were the lobster bao buns and the hamachi ceviche. As for drinks I really like the No. 2 and the espresso martini.

Yelp
My husband and I dined here in a Sunday night and it was so nice! We dressed casual since it was a Sunday which seemed to be ok The restaurant has dim lighting with a very tropical Tulum vibe and also has a DJ stand The bar is gorgeous with mirror accents and lighting The service was great! Our server checked in a lot and gave some pretty good recommendations My all time fav for food was the fried chicken omen caviar and the noodles. I could seriously eat those noodles all day The drinks were tasting! I had the pina colada styled drink, so yummy I ordered 2!

Yelp
This place is an absolute vibe - I reserved a booth for me and the gals on a Friday night. Loved the live DJ playing as if we were at a CRSSD show. Food and drinks were delicious - it's more of a shared apps and drinks kind of place than an "order a meal for each person" place. Noodles and steak were my fav, so were the bao buns. Make reservations for a group to guarantee a seat. There's also ample bar seating too!

Yelp
Sago was the perfect spot for a girls' night, date night, or even a birthday or bachelorette dinner!! From the moment we walked in, the energy was so fun and inviting, not to mention their whole aesthetic is so cute! The staff were also all incredibly kind and attentive, which made the experience even better. We loved all of the food and cocktails we ordered, however the fried chicken with caviar and the wagyu skewers were absolute standouts -- I'm still thinking about both... We also really enjoyed the tuna tartare, oysters, and spicy noodles! Highly recommend trying one of their many fun cocktails as well, I loved the #9! We had such a great time and are already looking forward to coming back!!

Yelp
The food at Sago was generally good, but the portions were small for the high prices. We ordered the lobster bao bun, ceviche, and steak. The bao bun was the highlight--flavorful and well-executed. The ceviche and drinks were forgettable, and the steak, though very tender, lacked seasoning and depth. The real issue, however, was the service. We had an 8:30 reservation but weren't seated until 8:50. Less than an hour into our meal, we were told we needed to vacate our table for a large party. Staff members repeatedly came over--three separate people within a span of a few minutes--pressuring us to move mid-drink. I politely explained that I was just finishing my drink and waiting for my husband to return from the restroom, but they continued to rush us. This was incredibly rude and unprofessional, especially after spending over $280. We weren't even at our table for a full hour, yet we were made to feel unwelcome and hurried out. Why couldn't the incoming group wait, just like we had to? I noticed in another review that someone else had a similar experience, so this seems to be a recurring issue. Sago needs to find a more respectful way to manage their seating. No guest should be pressured to leave their table in the middle of their evening. I won't be returning--and I hope the restaurant seriously reconsiders how it treats its patrons.

Yelp
While visiting San Diego, I was able to dine at Sago. My friends suggested this spot and since I used to frequent the area a lot back in the day, I was happy to be here. We were a party of 9 so there are no tables that can accommodate this size of a party other than the lounge seating. It was like a night club seating so we could not eat like on a regular table. We had 3 small tables and asked the original server (bus boy) if we could grab the other small table that was between both seating area and he said he needed to asked but never came back. Eventually the server came. Service to me was extremely slow. Although she was nice, it sucked at the same time. We all ordered drinks and the drinks were very weak. I ordered 2 old fashioned drinks and no buzz at all. The next day I dined at another restaurant and ordered an old fashioned and I was a bit tipsy. Clearly watered down drinks are served here. My 2 old fashion drinks cost me $38+tt. Food: Mei Goreng Balinese Pork Satay Lobster Bao Buns Tuna Tartare The Mei Goreng was delicious. I loved the al dente udon noodles. The flavors were on point. The Satay was ok. I preferred the wagyu skewer that my friends ordered. That was delicious. The tuna tartare had a nice bite. The chip it came with was a bit nasty. I've had really good rice crackers at different restaurants and unfortunately the chip was not good. Lastly, the lobster bao buns were devine. Delicious!!! That and the mei goreng were my favorites. Overall, the food dishes delcious but the drinks and service lacked for me.

Yelp
Had such a great experience. My girlfriends and I sat at the bar, which was newly redone and looks great. We had great service from Ben at the bar, and the food was great. The chef has done a truly exceptional job with all the new additions to the menu. From the oysters on the half shell to the new cucumber dish to the chicken and caviar, everything was so delicious. Sago has become one of my favorite restuarants in north county. I'll definitely be back soon.

Yelp
This place is tucked i Encinitas , but honestly tho! Even La doesn't have this! So unique, what a hidden gem! The moment you enter, it feels like you are transported to Miami jungle ! The music are so cool, chill, danceable. They played deep / afro house music. After 11, it became like a bar with dance floor. For food? Damn. It beyonds my expectation. Their blend for SouthEast asian fusion with American are really not bad! Not like authetic but it is more than decent! I order their mee goreng, satay, wagyu steak for 3 of us. Good place for girl night out.
google avatar

Brianna M.

Yelp
The place was decorated so cool very jungle theme and they had a DJ it could be a bit loud but I enjoyed it! I had the tuna tartare, cucumber salad, wagyu skewers, and the noodle dish and all was great. We sat at the bar and the service there was incredible. Also such yummy cocktails!

Yelp
If you're looking for vibes, this place has the tulum-esque atmosphere you're looking for a casual night out or a date night. But read on... My partner and I had the Crudo, Mie Goreng, and Wagyu Flank for food and to be honest it was rather mediocre. The Wagyu was WAYYY over cooked and well done despite us asking for medium rare. The crudo was sparse and more of a taster than an appetizer for 2. Mie Goreng was also decent noodle wise as it was al dente and cooked well but the sparse amount of bok choy was laughable and the noodles could really benefit from more of its supporting cast. That said, the presentation was nice for all dishes though and I appreciate the plating and dishware. The real disappointment was on the drink for me. I had the N10 (Pineapple rum, dark rum, cointreau, orgeat, lime) which one would generally assume is a Mai Tai variant. Unfortunately the end result was what tasted like a watered down drink from a dive bar in PB.... on the flip side though the N9 (Caramelized Pineapple, Tequila, Chili, Pina Colada Foam) was the type caliber of cocktail I'd expect from a place like this and was full of flavor and body that fit the environment.

Yelp
Not only is the vibe here, absolutely sick, but the food and service was also amazing. You cannot go wrong with anything that you pick on the menu. There really isn't anywhere like this in San Diego. They have awesome DJs and a fun atmosphere.

Yelp
Wow one of my new favorite spots in SD! Came here not too long ago with a buddy and loved it. The ambiance is beautiful definitely tulumy vibes, plants all over the place it's gorgeous. All the food we got was bomb, ordered like 6 plates and shared each it worked out great. Their drinks are all delicious- couldn't recommend the spot enough. On weekends they do bottle service too which will be back for soon/ thanks SAgo!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night with a girlfriend for tapas and drinks!! Absolutely LOVED it. It was totally my type of vibe I loved the jungle plant theme, and Asian foods. Mt favorite dishes were their farmer green salad (don't skip this), fried chicken and caviar, chicken satay and lobster bao buns. For my drink I loved the No. 4 which was similar to a pisco sour to me. Oh and they have peanut butter ice cream for dessert and it is the creamiest yummiest ice cream! My waitress was so friendly and helpful, we pretty much ordered everything she recommended and we were not disappointed. Love love love and you should definitely check it out! They had a live dj and it seems to get crowded at night by the bar!
google avatar

Trevor L.

Yelp
Absolutely loved the new aesthetic, all black gloss looking. Sleek and elegant. Would recommend the halibut and mie gorieng if u can handle spicy. Would recommend the kubota, very smooth with more of body. I really enjoyed sitting at the bar and talking with the staff, all super friendly with effortless conversations Drink menu Number 4 4/5 would highly recommend one of the best drinks Number 5 5/5 tastes like a lime ice cream popsicle Number 7 5/5 smoothest bourbon and slightly sweet old fashion Number 9 3/5 similar to pina collada but you can taste the split between sweet rum and lime

Yelp
Came here for my boyfriend's birthday, and it was fantastic! The vibes were overall fun and very nice. Our server, Trista, was amazing. She gave us a quick run down of the menu, and helped us out by letting us know what was in each dish since I had a specific food allergy! The food was so so so good! This restaurant really does live up to the hype. Each dish was so delicious. My favorite was the tuna sashimi. It was so fresh and so yummy. As someone who doesn't usually prefer raw fish, this was one of the best tuna sashimi I ever had. 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
Sago is such a great place to meet friends for drinks or have a nice night out. I came here a couple times now to catch up with a friend, listen to music, and celebrate my friends' birthday. Food here is tapas style so I recommend eating your volume before you go or have plans to eat after (especially if you plan on drinking). The espresso tinis here are amazing, and the wagyu skewer was to die for it was literally so good my friends and I almost cried. I recommend tasting their chardonnay as well if you plan on having some of the tapas, they compliment each other well. As for the ambiance it's spectacular!!! The interior is such a good jungle vibe, and ironically enough when we went for my friends birthday they were playing jungle house as well!!! I think the vibe is well curated here and I love that you can stick around for the sets. Service here is also very good and I can't wait to continue making this place a part of my Encinitas-night-out routine.

Yelp
Went here last night with friends! Gorgeous exterior and interior decors. The massive palm trees create a very Cabo vibe and does immediately transform you as if you are on vacation somewhere exotic! Definitely nothing done like this in Encinitas. Bravo to that! Service was good as well! Although at the front door at times it feels as though they were trying to create an exclusive high end club but overall service was nice from doorman, hostess, etc. Bartenders on the other hand were not so nice- to anyone. Also the drinks were not good. For $20+ dollars each drink this was a huge let down and some of the worst drinks I've had being out in Encinitas. Union kitchen makes drinks better than this "high end" club. The vibe was very pretentious (mix bags with lots of young beautiful people, and old, hipster, musician and all who wants to be "seen" come to this club. Besides that, everything else felt flat here. Not my place of choice.

Yelp
This spot hit all the marks tonight: ambiance, service, food and drinks. The corner location is beautifully designed with a dark jungle vibe and rich woods throughout. Parking is limited to some small lots that fill up quickly and often as well as mostly street parking. Service was top-notch - friendly and attentive. We were checked in on frequently, food came out very timely, and drinks were never dry. The menu is a variety of Asian fusion small dishes, which was perfect for ordering and sharing multiple things. Tonight two of us ordered the tuna sashimi, black cod, mei goreng, Australian wagyu flank and jidori chicken skewer. Everything was excellent, from plating to execution. Every flavor was delicious and bold. Will definitely be coming back!!

Yelp
Saw this place on tiktok and wanted to try the drinks! The place is so cutely decorated and drinks were yummy. We got No 9 and 3 I think. 9 was better in my opinion, not too sweet either. My partner accidentally knocked his drink over and they cleaned and replaced it immediately!!! Really good customer service and we were pleased! Got say immediately but I recommend getting a reservation during typical busy times

Yelp
SOOO much fun! Loved this spot , the vibes, the service, the food! The drinks were also delicious. My favorite thing were the lobster bao buns and the soft serve for dessert is a must!!! I love the jungle theme and the music is SOOO GOOD! Seriously - worth a visit a great spot in Encinitas! Shoutout to our server izzy for being the best!

Yelp
Interesting and unique food, good nighttime vibes at SAGO! I had found this spot on Yelp and decided to make a last min reservation. It was easy to do so, and there were still slots left on the same day. The food menu was fairly extensive, with larger entrees or smaller tapas depending on whether you were there for a full meal, or just drinks. Although the items were a bit on the pricey side given the serving sizes, this was already to be expected. My boyfriend and I shared 4 dishes between us, and we were both full but definitely not stuffed. The drink menu was also interesting, and I appreciated that it was listed in categories (like experimental) depending on what kind of drinks you gravitate towards. The drinks were strong but had great balance of the non-alcoholic elements inside! I enjoyed my gin/strawberry/balsamic vinegar drink, and it was just the right amount of risk for me (balsamic was not too strong). Towards the end of our meal, the DJ came out to the booth and started spinning live music. A few bigger groups came in around this time and you could tell the energy was starting to pick up to the clubbier vibe they have later nights. If you're looking for a nicer, tamer meal an earlier reservation is definitely nice, but otherwise this spot is great for a date or night out!

Yelp
Such a cool bar. It's like stepping into a dark tropical rainforest. Stopped by on a Friday with co workers while visiting San Diego for a conference. We were seated right away without a reservation early Friday evening. I would recommend making a reservation. It was pretty busy by the time we left. The cocktails all looked good but I went with their take on an espresso martini with a hint of snickerdoodle. It was a smooth martini and not too sweet or bitter. The food is tapas style. We ordered some greens, the lobster bao buns, the noodles and the wagyu beef skewers. Table favorite was the lobster bao buns and second the noodles. We ended with a serving of their ube soft serve to share. Service was fast and friendly. Very cool and hip vibe perfect for a night out. Adding to my San Diego spots.

Yelp
Overall I really enjoyed the ambiance of the place. Loved the overall design. The food didn't impress a bit too salty for my liking but the music, atmosphere, and drinks made up for it. Probably my favorite spot in the area at the moment.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, delicious food! We got almost one of everything and nothing disappointed. Highly recommend the cucumber salad, noodles, and chicken with caviar! Everything was great! Our server was so friendly and helpful with menu recommendations!

Yelp
Sago is one-of-a-kind Asian-Fusion elevated lounge/restaurant in Encinitas with incredible vibes.. Bringing Gaslamp-like energy to North County !! I'd keep visiting there just for those amazing ambience and vibes.. There's always a really good DJ spinning some lovely tropical house. Service is also exemplary there. Only peeve - As a vegetarian, there were already limited options on the menu and on the day I visited, some of those dishes were already sold out too. And unlike other restaurants, the chef prefers to not make any modifications to existing dishes to make them as a vegetarian dish. The desserts (soft serve with season flavors) have a lovely texture and are fab.

Yelp
Celebrated my birthday at SAGO in Encinitas and had an amazing experience. Our reservation was right on time, the atmosphere was elevated and chill, and our server was super attentive. We ordered the hamachi ceviche, mie goreng udon noodles, wagyu skewers, tuna sashimi, and the standout--fried chicken with caviar. Everything was flavorful and beautifully plated. Drinks were cocktails No. 4, 12, and 13--each one was unique and delicious. We ended the night with their soft serve--simple and perfect. Highly recommend for a special night out!

Yelp
I loved this place so much. We decided to do a family dinner during our getaway along with our 16 month old. Maybe not the best idea because obviously it's not a baby friendly type of place; but the staff were so welcoming and patient with us. They were checking on us often and so quick with our orders. The restaurant itself is beautiful and clean. The music was a vibe. The food was just outstanding. We ordered: Broccolini - 10/10 Cucumber salad - 10/10 Get these two no matter what you order! Fried chicken and caviar - 2/10 (Caviar quality wasn't the best imo. But we grew up on caviar which is why we are picky with it. In a pinch, it's caviar and it'll do if you're not picky, and a large portion at that. The batter of the chicken was really nice but the chicken also had an off-putting taste. The floor manager was kind enough to offer us a complimentary substitution.) American tomahawk - 9/10 (I'm biased and my favorite is not changeable, but probably one of the best we have had.) We obviously had a different experience than most since we brought our baby but still so enjoyable. Loved it and will absolutely return.

Yelp
Came here because it looked absolutely stunning online. The drinks looked beautiful and the food looked good and made me want to try it! We walked in and were seated right away as the waiting area was very small but the inside was gorgeous with greenery everywhere. The server made it known to us that the menu was Asian fusion and tapas style (shared small plates). After trying the food here, I would say they are more Asian fusion CONFUSION as the flavors were clashing and seemed like the dishes didn't know their identities.. don't get me wrong Asian fusion can be done very well but SAGO does not do them well at all.. We ordered the Lobster Bao Buns, the Balinese Pork Satay, the Wagyu Satay, the Fried Chicken Cavier and the Mi Goreng. The Lobster Bao Buns were covered in a sauce that gave the whole dish it's flavor and the bun was kind of cheap and stuck to the roof of our mouths. The Balinese Pork Satay was pretty small for the amount they charged and it lacked flavor. The Waygu Skewers were not special and I honestly questioned if it was Wagyu because it taste like a regular steak.. the Fried Chicken and Caviar was fried nicely and had decent flavor but unfortunately it was undercooked.. still pink inside. And the Mi Goreng was undercooked.. the noodles were hard and the flavor had way to much sugar. We were starving so we ate it but we weren't satisfied after.. While we were eating, the Fried Chicken Caviar plate had one more piece of Chicken and one of the servers came and asked if they could take it.. we all just looked at each other kind of shocked because of the amount of caviar still left on that piece. We politely said no thank you we will keep the plate and he responded "yeah that's probably like $20 worth of caviar" .. I'm not sure why he asked to take it of he saw how much was left as well :/ The drink menu was alright but I think some quality assurance needs to be done. I ordered the Nr 2 Rum Passionfruit, my wife ordered the Nr 13 Gin Strawberry and my friend ordered the Nr 9 Carmalized Pinapple Tequila. The Run Passionfruit was so sour after taking my first sip.. I mixed it and still sour.. the Gin Strawberry was pretty pleasant and a nice soft drink. But the Carmalized Pinapple Tequila was advertised Tequila Chili Pina Colada Foam but it was served with salt and not Chili. My friend was confused and asked the server and she said they ran out of the chili.. idk why they would substitute an ingredient and not inform us until we asked. That was a bummer since we reply like chili. On the reservation, i noted we were celebrating a birthday which the waitress acknowledged and I appreciate that because sometimes they don't even when I put it on the reservation. They were out of their ube ice cream shock was another bummer that I couldn't try it.. so the served brought me a glass of champagne which I thought was very thoughtful but I really didn't want to keep drinking so I shared it with my friends. Overall I'm glad I tried this place but it is really the esthetic you come for and not the Asian Fusion.. there isn't even rice on the menu..

Yelp
We are visiting San Diego and after looking at quite a few places for dinner, we settled on SAGO! We saw the jungle-like atmosphere from the pictures and it presented a chill dim lit atmosphere. We parked at the Encinitas park n ride which is close to the restaurant. NOTE: it's best to dress up a little bit -- like you're going to club! The place gives off that vibe and their whole staff is dressed in black or dark jeans! **Highly recommended you make a reservation.** We made one thru their website (OpenTable) and they adhere to being ON TIME and for some reason, you cannot show up earlier than your reserved time or later b/c they will give it to someone else! It took some time and the hostess apologized but we were fine! We got to sit in the cozy booth lounge area which is at the back of the restaurant. It reminded me of a VIP lounge at a club. We saw the restaurant from the back including a real time DJ playing some killer beats! I LOVE the N. 2 drink! A blend of rum, mint, blueberry and lemon -- it tasted like a guava drink! This is recommended if you're going for a refreshing drink! FYI (they have their 9 drinks categorized as such "refreshing, savor and adventure." ) my bf got the N. 4 which was vodka, aloe, cucumber, basil with an egg white froth. Delicious! Their Asian fusion tapas are so delicious! We loved and RECOMMEND the half chicken satay skewers! The chicken was cooked perfectly and paired with lettuce wraps, bean sprouts and some spice with 3 different sauces. Wrap it in the lettuce and you're solid! We also tried their lobster bao buns, grilled black cod, and the Japanese sweet potato! The sweet potato was very good -- a great balance to end the meal just right. I also tried the wagyu tartare and loved it! I've had beef tartare in the past and really found it to be delicious at a restaurant in Seattle. My bf doesn't like this kind of raw meat so more for me! (And honestly, it's based on preference.) Our waitress was awesome and said Sago is quite new to Encinitas! By the time we were done, there was a line formed! It's getting pretty popular. Totally recommend if you're looking to have a night out on the town or want something vibey to kick off your weekend!

Yelp
Had a great evening there in a Thursday where they have live music. Food and service was great, we enjoyed everything we had. Will be back on Friday or Saturday for a fun night out!

Yelp
First impression it was so beautiful! We had reservations at 730 but arrived early and we were able to be sat right away. Walking to our booth the restaurant look visibly busy. As we waited it was getting hot lol the restaurant has all the windows open and covered by plants to for that Tulum feel which was really beautiful but their AC must've been broke because I saw this big fan in one corner that didn't match with the ambiance. We ordered drinks and our food at the same time since we knew what we wanted. Our appetizers came out first, we had the yellowtail which was yummy. Finished that plate quick! Shortly after our entrees came out. I got the blackened cod and my bf got the chicken skewers. We were about 3/4 done with our meal then our drinks arrived. The waitress apologized for the delay in the drinks and comp them for our meal which was nice. We had water so we didn't feel the need to remind them of our drinks. Our meal was yummy, service was good. Drinks were delicious and comp! I would definitely come back for drinks and if they had happy hour.

Yelp
Drinks and food was tasty and quickly served if you go 5-6pm then service is by the bar without a reservation. Ambiance is relaxing and open with the wall bringing in a nice breeze. Would definitely recommend for appetizers and drinks.

Yelp
Wow! What a great addition to Encinitas! I love the tropical decor and there is even a DJ! You can't start dancing until midnight though. We had reservations and were seated promptly. I ordered the mocktail version of N2 and he got an N9 and a glass of sake ( junmai kubota). For food, we shared the tuna sashimi, yellowtail and scallop, wagyu beef tartare, lobster bao buns, aged ribeye skewer, Dungeness crab fried rice, grilled black cod, and Balinese pork satay! It may seem like a lot of food, but the portions are small. My least favorite was the fried rice. It was a little mushy and didn't have much flavor. Everything else was presented well and delicious. The wagyu skewer was tender and raw items were fresh. Service was also quick and friendly! I had a great time and can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Love this place! Great, unique ambience, very tasty food, and good service. We came in here on a Thursday evening for our first time after we saw this place as highly recommended by OpenTable. I was pleasantly surprised by the unique ambience, which was upscale modern with beautiful seats, indoor banana trees, and live music. The servers seated us right away and asked for our drink orders All the food that we ordered were delicious. Our special favorites were the wagyu and the tuna sashimi. The ube ice cream was also very delicious. We will be back

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday night with some girlfriends and already loved the ambiance and setting! Drinks were delicious and the tapas were so good! There was a live dj when we arrived and it was a vibe. This place is so cute for a girls night or date night. If you're in Encinitas pls check it out! As for the tapas the aged ribeye skewer and dungeness crab rice were my favorite! Meat was tender for the skewer and the rice had so much flavor goin on!

Yelp
This place is truly remarkable. The theme is such a vibe. Diego was our server and he was so friendly and helpful with suggestions. Natalie was also checking in on us constantly and made us feel important and prioritized. Service was honestly 10/10. I recommend the lobster baos they were pretty good. The drinks are amazing, the espresso martini is strong and cinnamon forward. The rum with passion fruit and blackberry was my personal favorite. DJ is playing some awesome house style hits. I would definitely come back for the drinks and the vibes. Huge shout out to Dale, Diego and Natalie for making our experience so much fun!!!

Yelp
Great service! We only went for pre-dinner drinks, but wow- good stuff! The bartenders were fast, efficient, and knew what they were doing! Drinks were well made and I appreciated the large ice cubes (sign of a serious bar for sure). I intend to go back to this swanky, romantic, Asian-fusion spot.

Yelp
Sago does it all ! We had the tomahawk and shared several small plates (Hamachi was fire). The food was incredible and the service was a 12/10. The scene was tropical elegance - a perfect blend. They're ran so efficiently from the top down. Can't wait to come back, it's a must go if you're in the area.

Yelp
My friend and I visited Sago twice recently and, unfortunately, had the same disappointing experience both times. We were seated quickly and got our drinks without much delay, but after that, service basically disappeared. Our server, a blonde woman, checked on us once -- maybe 20-30 minutes after our drinks arrived -- and after that, she was nowhere to be found. We tried waving to get her attention a few times, as did several other tables near us, but she completely ignored it. It wasn't just us -- other guests clearly struggled to get help too. It's a shame because the food and drinks were actually really good, but the service left such a bad taste that we won't be coming back.
