The 13 Best Donut Shops in Houston | Eater Houston

"Okay, it’s technically in Galveston, but these donuts are definitely worth a drive. Get there early, because this local fave fills up quickly with devoted fans and regulars, and its most popular pastries (like the blueberry cake doughnut) sell out quickly." - Emily Bond

Google
Nice, friendly donut shop. Only disappointment was we came here so we could have coffee and donuts and sit at the counter. First thing you see walking in, No Inside Seating. Sad. But staff and donuts good

Emily S.

Google
Was staying in Galveston for the weekend and had the job of supplying breakfast for the crew. This spot was exactly what I was looking for. Yummy crossainwiches, biscuit sandwiches, kolaches, donuts, and other pastries like apple fritters and donuts. Had just the variety I was looking for with friendly, fast service. Thanks so much, will be seeing you again for next year's Galveston trip!

Tim E.

Google
The service here is top-notch. We requested a donut that wasn't in the counter so they went in the backroom and made one. Just for us. And is was delicious.

Google
We stopped here during our visit to Galveston. The location is perfect, it was a short distance from our hotel. We stopped in for donuts and coffee. The inside was closed due to staffing but we were able to get them to go. They had a limited amount of donuts left as it was around noon. The donuts we tried were delicious and the coffee was nice and hot. The staff was nice and friendly.

Google
I have been here before but It was a while ago. The kolaches where good but heavy on the meat to bread ratio. The boudin was flavorful but dry. Are there croissants the good and I would probably try them next time.

Kiara O.

Google
They used to be cheaper and have good food. But their salsa for their burritos are super watered down and I just had my favorite apple spice filled donut that now for the third time barely had filling. I hate having to pay for a filled donut that isn't filled. I ate over half the donut and there was no apple filling through it. The very end probably had two teaspoons full. Glad I at least had two good bites out of it. The price went up on some things too. This is the closest donut shop to my house but thinking I might have to drive further down to try something else. The older lady that's super sweet is the only reason why I go there. And the apple spice donuts(which now isn't worth it) Everyone else is rude

Google
If the couple that runs this place weren’t so nice I would’ve left. Coming to the drive thru in a rush was no good. They didn’t have the things we tried to order so we settled for whatever they offered to get some time back. My wife liked the boudin kolache.

Google
We're used to the original Homecut Donuts in Joliet, IL. Homecut, in Galveston is good, better than other donut shops we've tried locally. The red raspberry filled is the best, and the kolaches are really good too!

Yelp
Classic sit at the counter diner serving up fire donuts. It's been a minute since I've had a yeasted donut that had the right balance of body and lightness. We have a lot of family in town so we got a big box of things to try. The cinnamon roll donuts were a treat as were the cinnamon twists - my favorite was the twist with the chocolate glaze. The honey dip classic is also a winner, and the kids loved the sprinkle options too. The only thing I wouldn't re-order is the croissant, but I had that on its own. I could see it making a great breakfast sandwich, though. The staff was so kind, helping us get a variety mix, and we were impressed by the drive through option! Great stop for some awesome donuts.

Yelp
Tried the cream filled kolache, raspberry glazed donut, and egg and cheese croissant. Everything was good. My favorite was definitely the raspberry donut.

April C.

Yelp
Home Cut has the best breakfast burritos with great tasting green sauce. Donuts delicious, fresh and soft. Prices are very reasonable. Employees hard working, courteous and very friendly A wonderful start to my day. Love this place!
google avatar

Yelp
I love everything about this place! The food, the people and the shop itself. You can dine in or use their drive-thru window. It's an old fashioned donut shop like when I was a kid. They have counter seating with spinning stools. It's a Galveston favorite.
google avatar

Bruce R.

Yelp
Had high hopes after looking at the reviews. The doughnuts were average, have had better at a grocery store. The breakfast burritos were good. Over all I would have to say not worthy of a 4+ star review.
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
March 8, 2022 stopped in on my way home from work. Busy drive thru Tried the boudin kolache...boudin bland. Dawn Donut way better Tried a (huge) sausage egg cheese burrito. It was filled up with egg/sausage that's for sure but, the cheese was sparse. The sausage had no flavor either. Dawn Donut, you MY fav

Yelp
Perfect little touch of nostalgic with such kind workers. We were able to get service very quick and got some DELICOUS doughnuts for a reasonable price.

Yelp
Visiting from California. My husband ( grew up in Galveston) and I went Sunday morning- coffee was really good. We also enjoyed a kolache, biscuit, croissant, and a super burrito. Everything super tasty. We sat at the counter- loved the ambiance!

Yelp
We needed a quick breakfast as we had an early checkout for our air b&b, so naturally donuts and kolaches were the answer! This place has a lot of reviews and nearly 5 stars so it was what I picked. Upon arrival I noticed it is a popular spot as the parking lot was full and the drive thru was also full. (Pro tip - park on the other side of the drive thru lane so as not to get blocked in.) Upon arriving at the window I was happily greeted and asked what I would like. I already knew as my family are creatures of habit so it's almost always the same for donuts. 2 each of glazed, chocolate, and blueberry. I also ordered 2 jalapeño and cheese kolaches. We also got milk (full and 2%) and some bottled water. They're didn't have strawberry but they did have chocolate milk. My family said the donuts were "okay" and I although looking at my kolaches I was happy (I want just a little bread at most and that's exactly what I got - LOVE IT) they were also just okay. There was zero spice to them and they tasted plain. I did steal a bite of my son's blueberry and I liked it Overall not bad. Customer service was awesome! Food was average. I would probably go somewhere else next time to compare.

Yelp
Nostalgic. Possibly original decor from the 70's. Friendly people working. Delicious donuts and packed in colorful bags. Makes you feel like you are a young kid again.
google avatar

Patrick B.

Yelp
Nice old school donut shop. Great donuts and kolaches and friendly staff. Come early to have full choice.

Yelp
We were in Galveston for a week and swung through here twice. Our first time we stopped was a weekday and the service was top notch. Super friendly. The second time we visited was on a weekend on our way out of town and we were helped by an entirely different staff. It wasn't quite the same - not bad but it didn't really standout for us. We grabbed a variety of breakfast goodies and while all were tasty, the real standout for us were the apple fritters. Those are a definite must try! If you're looking for a quick and easy breakfast of coffee and donuts this place will certainly hit the spot.
google avatar

Sam A.

Yelp
Great donuts, great service. Small family own spot. Worth the drive while on the island.
google avatar

Roxanne B.

Yelp
Friendly staff!! Definitely a local hangout! Yummy bacon egg cheese croissant sandwiches and delicious donuts!!! Sit at the counter and get endless coffee w/ flavored creamer available! The place could use some updates but overall a "down home" place Awesome donuts friendly staff you can't beat it!
google avatar

Betsy E.

Yelp
This place was packed so I thought it would be good, but nothing we tried was tasty. Maybe because it was mid morning, but the kolache dough was dry and the donuts we got tasted like old grease. The menu was a little confusing and a bit overpriced.
google avatar

Cindy D.

Yelp
Best donut shop in g-town. But don't go at 6 in am. On Sunday. They hadn't finished baking yet and only a few selections. I came back at 730 and wonderful selections.

Tyler F.

Yelp
These donuts are just.... Not good. Have had better at a grocery store, as someone else pointed out. The dough is not good at all, very dense, not light and fluffy. The glaze is also not very good itself.

Jonathan A.

Yelp
The donuts were great, cashier was rude and they were arguing and bickering. but I would go back because of the location and tasty donuts.
google avatar

Kira W.

Yelp
Eggcellet sausage egg and cheese croissant. Many varieties of donuts. Fast service and SUPER friendly!! This is your old fashioned coffee/donut house. Do come looking for a specialty coffee. But a great little place to grab a donut, breakfast croissant , Kolache or breakfast biscuit.
google avatar

Nicolas L.

Yelp
My wife and I recently visited Home Cut Donuts and ordered the Honey Dip, Bavarian, Lemon, and Chocolate Donuts. All the donuts were delicious, light and airy. The Bavarian filling was creamy and citrusy and the Lemon filling was nicely tangy. Overall, Home Cut Donuts serves good quality donuts.
google avatar

Glenda K.

Yelp
We grabbed two tasty apple fritters! Heated up just a little and that was yummy! Current hours have them open until 3:00. FYI

Teri Theresa R.

Yelp
So glad I found a blog on Pinterest rating donuts & the writer highly recommended this sweet little place. We enjoyed it so much that we returned 3 days in a row. We loved the croissant sausages & kolaches. And the donuts were yummy! My husbands favorite was the walnut cinnamon roll, my daughters was the blueberry donut & I loved the honey glazed. It was the best glazed I've ever had. Much better than any glaze from one of those donut chains. The sweetness wasn't overwhelming...it was perfect!! Home cuts will definitely be missed when we return home.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here before a drive to Austin. Phenomenal customer service and great prices. The older woman was so kind and went above and beyond! Boudin kolache - very tasty with Polish flavors and spices. The bread on the outside is so soft Home cut donut - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Not too sweet.
google avatar

Courtney Ann R.

Yelp
Stopped in for some goodies for my coworkers. Very cute and casual inside. The staff was really sweet, & the food was great! Perfect for a quick breakfast with the family. Or even when you feel like being the coworker that brings donuts
google avatar

Camilla Y.

Yelp
A cute family operated donut shop. I love how in the interior felt like a time capsule of a vintage breakfast diner, with circular stools lined across a bar table. The lady taking orders in the front is such a ray of sunshine. So much positive energy and also really efficient with getting your order completed quickly. There's a wide selection to choose from. The donuts were pretty good and everything you could ask for in a donut -- sugary, fluffy and fresh. The kolaches were not as substantial as I would like (the bread was too thin in my opinion), but still tasted good.
google avatar

Logan H.

Yelp
Been 8 years since I've been here, It's still as good as I remember, The employees are VERY nice, the donuts are amazing, the kolache's were amazing, 100000000/5 definitely reccomend Good memories here as well, the employees remember us too! Overall great establishment and I'm planning on finding a way to advertise this place without them having to pay me.
google avatar

Gina S.

Yelp
It's a donut place. Good and tasty. Boudin kolaches are the best. I will get them every-time.
google avatar

Cassidy S.

Yelp
I am giving this place five stars because the person at the register was SO NICE! This is a very cute donut spot! It wasn't too busy and they have pretty good kolatches! I didn't stay and sit down, but they had such cute diner style seating in there! I will definitely be back to enjoy!
google avatar

Allison L.

Yelp
The service was amazing! I stopped in for one kolache & left with two & one glazed donut. Pull into the parking lot with the tall pink sign, the parking stripes are also painted pink! Cute! The jalapeño, sausage, and cheese kolache was spot on! There is a short bar with about four patrons sitting at the counter receiving great service and refills of hot coffee with a smile!
google avatar

Nettifer W.

Yelp
The lady was one of the happiest donut workers I've ever met. We had a lot of selection everything she suggested was correct it was yummy the blueberry donut was by far was the best the apple fritter had no apple flavoring mostly cinnamon. And the sausages just look like a hotdog.

Grace H.

Yelp
Small personal shop with sweet hardworking lady behind the counter. Kolache and donuts were delightful. Recommend!

Yelp
Truly, a Galveston institution. I've been coming here since heck was a pup, or at least since I.was the president of my church youth group. Great service, good prices, and good product keep this place going. Me tell you to come here. E

Yelp
We came here while we visited Galveston for the weekend. It had a five star review. So I would give 4 star - definitely for the donuts. They are light, super melt in your mouth goodness, with not too much sugar. The quality of the donut is actually really lovey. However they are much smaller than what you would find at a franchise style shop and the same price, if not more.... But that's the price of quality. The service is another story! There was one blondish brown haired lady (who didn't wait in us) but she was so friendly and kind to those she waited on but the black haired lady who I think was probably the owner was rude, inconsiderate, demeaning and impatient- not only with us but her employees as well. A smile never crossed her face, if she even looked at a customer, it was to show her disgust and roll her eyes. She was so disrespectful and inhospitable. Because of her demeanor, I give this place 3 stars

Yelp
Okay have to admit I go here about once a week. Love the service, the donuts... my favorites are the blueberry cake, the coconut and the fritters. Also good breakfast burritos and Kolaches. Always good donuts.
google avatar

Tracie S.

Yelp
Great old time doughnuts shop complete with counter service! We found where the locals hang out. Very enjoyable & delicious breakfast treats.
google avatar

Larry L.

Yelp
Mom and pop shop friendly staff and excellent donuts. They frequently run out of donut selection if you showed up too late (after 10am).
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Great donuts great service. The old time diner bar inside was fun for the kids. Park on the side opposite of the drive thru
google avatar

Sean O.

Yelp
Home Cut Donuts is a wonderful family owned and operated donut shop. They have fresh products every day and they take pride in their product. This is a must stop place anytime you are on the island!
google avatar

Rachel J.

Yelp
This place is great! The biscuits and tortillas are super fresh and the staff was very nice. Best of all was the price though! Great value for what you get. Would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Kim S.

Yelp
When you have a hankering for a donut, you look around for where the locals go to eat. This is a family run doughnut shop that has plenty of choices. We ordered a glazed twist, coconut chocolate and buttermilk doughnut. We also got a boudin kolache to try. The doughnuts were all light and tasty. I felt rushed as I was choosing my doughnuts. That's not a big deal, but since we've never been there before, I like to take my time. The energy of youth!!!

Jessica W.

Yelp
Best donuts on island I love the angel filled and they are always super quick !!!!!!!!!

Yelp
H has been getting kolaches from this place for years. So our last trip OI we dropped by for a quick something to hold us until lunch. This place only makes a certain amount of heaven each day, so go early if you prefer a larger selection of donuts. The lady working the place was a doll. So freaking sweet & polite. A few locals were sitting at the counter having an animated conversation. H had a kolache & I opted for the blueberry cake donut. Oh my this little bundle if joy was delicious & definitely filled my belly.
google avatar

Donna Y.

Yelp
Drive thru only, coffee is hot, good! The cinnamon rolls are tasty. Not the best that I've had but very good.
google avatar

Yelp
What a gem of a place. Small quaint and extremely friendly. The lady who served us was a delight and you couldn't help but smile when she talked to you. The powdered raspberry filled was delicious. Also the maple glazed was very tasty. Not overly sweet and light as a feather. You can really tell their dough is made with a lot of care . This is exactly what you want to treat yourself to if you are looking for that special item.
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
I ordered an egg, cheese, and sausage biscuit. It was not kept in a refrigerator section and the biscuit tasted like it came from a can. I did like that it was a fresh egg though. I also got a maple donut which was delicious. I ate my biscuit there and I watched them restock donuts without gloves which is a big turnoff.

Priscilla A.

Yelp
Great donuts & great people! I've been here a few times & they are always so nice to me and happy to be there. Asked for 2 glazed donuts and she told me she "threw in a little extra" and I got home and found 6 glazed donuts. So sweet!
google avatar

Nadia V.

Yelp
Great, fresh little donut shop! Great prices and varied selection. Showed up just before 8:30am on a Wednesday and a lot of the selection was already gone or limited, so that is one of the reasons I didn't give this place 5 stars. I can't imagine on a weekend how fast they go! The two people at the counter were quick but one one of them was all smiles, the other was only pleasant to frequent locals and seemed annoyed to take my order, my next reason for not a 5 star review. You can dine in or out, they have coffee, drinks, breakfast sandwiches and kolaches. I tried the cream cheese donut and can't recommend it enough. It was perfectly balanced on sweetness and a real delight! I consider myself a donut expert and this was the star. I judge all places by their blueberry ale donut and glazed donut. The glazed was great, the blueberry was ok. I liked the crunch and the level of sweetness but it just wasn't anything more than ok. The glazed twist was great. It was light, great balance of cinnamon and glaze. Definitely will try this place again.
google avatar

Ali C.

Yelp
BEST DONUTS ON THE ISLAND! I love their glazed and chocolate donuts. They're light and not that dense. They also have a good cake donut. They have a lot of different kinds of donuts, lemon, strawberry filled, custard filled, raspberry filled, vanilla and chocolate sprinkles... all of tasty! They also have breakfast sandwiches. I've never had any but a lot of people order them. They are a little more expensive than other donuts places but it's well worth it. There can also be a little bit of a wait but the workers move quickly.
google avatar

josh p.

Yelp
Popular mom and pop donut shop. Their bacon egg and cheese sandwiches are yummy. Donuts are fresh and don't seem greasy at all
