"Home of Chicken & Waffles can’t wait to party for the inauguration, so they have a special dedicated to our former California senator and future vice president. Kamala’s collard greens and chicken lasagna comes with salad, dessert, and a drink ($19.99). And it’s been immortalized as a lasagna mural." - Becky Duffett

Let me start of by saying the customer service was just ok! There was only one guy there sitting people down I guess he was the manger/ host/ waiter. I was seated promptly and given a menu, and asked which beverage I would like. I think I ended up getting something simple like a sprite or sweet tea which was like a 7.5/ 10. He came back and took my food order after answering a few questions I had and I ended up going for the fried chicken wings with sides of sweet potatoes and greens. The wait time wasn’t terribly long as they cooked my wings to order. Received my food which was piping hot and smelled incredible and portions were nice and not skimpy. Wings to me was a 7.5/10 simply because they were fried beautifully but lacked seasoning. The greens were 8.5/10 flavorful and well seasoned especially with the pepper sauce. Yams were 8.9/10 they were just the right amount of sweetness and buttery and just overall well cooked. For this experience I give this place 3.5/5 stars because to me customer service is paramount and because of the lack of flavor of the wings. If your ever in the area give them a try. Oh and also it’s black owned.

Waitress had bad attitude and took long time to even initiate conversation. Costs are absurd. Cheapest meal is $18 for homeboy and then I get one extra waffle and it was somehow $32. She said nothing about the second waffle being insanely expensive. I asked for two chocolate chip waffles, only one was chocolate chip. She said the waffles were big but they are tiny, barely bigger than microwavable egos. I got 3 small chicken wings. Food didn't even taste good. So absurd. Never eating here again. Was the waitress last night on Feb 24. I was excited to eat here, but sorely disappointed. Wasn't her though, was the whole place. I never write bad reviews, but got to warn y'all about this place. The other five stars are definitely liars or bots, bc this place is a joke

Google
Great chill spot for chicken & waffles. To be honest we were freezing inside, we kept our jackets on because it didn't really feel like there was any kind of heating. The service was friendly but on the slower side. Food was great.

Google
Nice! I was in town from San Diego for a conference. While staying at the Oakland Marriott, I looked up this joint close by. I had the Home Run dinner; chicken breast with greens, mac n cheese, muffin. Returned for breakfast, I had chicken, grits & waffle. The chicken was tasty & smoking hot (a good sign that it was freshly cooked) the greens were very leafy and not over-seasoned, mac n cheese had a signature taste, but the muffin was cold and crumbly. I also noticed that when I returned in the morning that the carpeted areas of the floor still had not been vacuumed. I ordered a slice of sweet potato pie, but they had ran out. When I returned in the early afternoon about 1230pm for breakfast they still did not have any so the manager gave me a dessert on the house! Now that is what customer service is all about!!! I would have loved to do 5 stars if it had not been for the floors not being as clean. Will definitely return on my next visit to Oakland! Curtis

Google
The food is DELICIOUS!!! We ordered several different types of chicken and waffle plates and weren’t disappointed with any of them. As you can see, the portions are HUGE so you definitely get your money’s worth. The staff was very polite and accommodating especially with our large party. They had a lemonade/orange juice drink that was also really good. We had their homemade grits too which were also great. Probably the best thing we tried was the syrup, I could’ve just drank that by itself.

Google
I hardly ever rate a 5 star, but this place came really close to it. The chicken is super crispy on the outside with the batter having great flavor and it was not overly greasy. The drummets are hot and juicy on the inside. I love how they serve the buffalo sauce on the side in a ketchup squeeze bottle which is the perfect delivery system. The sauce had the perfect balance of heat and acidity to balance out the maple syrup. The waffle is just the right thickness, crispness on the outside and fluffiness on the inside to soak up that maple syrup. This is by far the best chicken and waffles I have had. Their lunch special is a really great deal only at $8 a plate.

I mean I been going here since sophomore year of hs back in 2008 and they chicken still smack. As a an orginal bay arean this chicken will have you rethink some things and the chocolate cake will swear it was Christmas in your mouth . They got a heavy hand on the cocktail . Shootout to Miss Kim ❤️

Yelp
I absolutely love the homeboy it's the chicken and waffle and it's the best. The waitress is always so polite and the ambiance is nice

Yelp
Came back because majority of my party wanted to try this place. Since I've been before I thought maybe it has gotten better, but I was wrong. This review is solely on the food because the service was great. I was disappointed again and I should have trusted my gut and not got anything. The mac n cheese once again was the worst thing. It had no flavor and was just noodles and oil topped with cheese. It definitely needed some seasoning and an actual cheese sauce. I think I rather have Stouffers Mac and Cheese. The chicken was OK, but dang those pieces were small. The chicken did not have a crunch or anything. It definitely needs better batter. The grits I think was okay, but I never had it before so I don't have a reference point. However there was a lot of little bubbles in it that kind of look like spit or something. I assume it was like butter or something. Honestly, I am not trying to come back to this place. I've given it two tries and both times failed me.

Yelp
An Oakland staple! It's moving locations! It used to be packed in here but lately it's been hard to come to Oakland and not get your car bipped. I love their waffles, I like to say it's better than Roscoe's in LA. Their Mac and cheese was dry too. I wish I tried their potatoe salad, next time! Their chicken is good but a little dry. The staff is so pleasant but we waited a long time for our food. Overall, I'd come back! It's family owned so I will always support!

Yelp
Home of Chicken and Waffles has the chicken game on lock! We all ordered variations of chicken (wings, strips, etc.) and all came out satisfied. You know it's good when we're in food comas! Prices are a bit high, but this place is great - perfect spot to go right before catching a movie.

Yelp
This place always makes you feel comfortable, the wall pictured in my shot has each item and each person that the item is named after. I get the Jason's item which hadms black eyed peas, rice, chicken and a biscuit. The wait staff is super nice and the dishes are through the roof. The dishes taste like they were carefully made or I should say made with love. We have been coming here since the beginning and we always will. The best part is I can now take my daughter with me and there is even a plate with her name on it.

Yelp
Visited the Home of Chicken and Waffles for the first time this Saturday and I must say the food did not disappoint. We arrived at around 7:00PM on a Saturday and Jack London Square was really busy. With that being said, parking was a annoyingly packed. We ended up parking at a parking garage about 3 blocks away. So make sure to keep this in mind when going here. I'm pretty sure there are some days where parking is easy to come by but not this time. When we arrived at the restaurant, the section to the left was closed so we were told to sit to the right side. We grabbed our own menu and sat ourselves. There's ample amount of tables in the restaurant but like I said the other side was closed. Customer Service (3/5)- This was honestly what made me give this restaurant a 3 star. When we sat it took about 15 minutes until someone came to our section to get drinks or even acknowledge us. There was a bartended tending to the bar and when one of the bus girls came by to get our drink, I told her were ready to order and long be hold, the bartender was apparently our server. She did not acknowledge us at all, along with the 2 or 3 other parties that sat themselves in her section. The bus girl told her that were ready to order which I'm glad she came within a couple of minutes. And if you're wondering, No the bar was not busy and she could've at least acknowledge us and gave us some water or something. Anyways, we placed our order and ordered our drinks. We ordered 3 items from the menu. Their Garlic Fries, Keith's Tackle and Dave's Choice. The appetizer came out a decent time along with our entrée. Food (5/5): Garlic Fries- Highly recommend this for appetizer. The fries was coated in garlic sauce or whatever sauce they have mixed in with garlic. But their garlic fries was the bomb. Even though the fries was coated with sauce, it was not soggy at all and it was still crispy. We had to stop ourselves from eating the whole plate because we still had out entrée. Keith's Tackle- This was my order and I ordered it because it came with mac & cheeses and I'm a sucker for Mac & cheese. My order came with two chicken wings, waffle and mac & cheese. The syrup they have was so good that I literally poured the whole cup of syrup on the chicken. LOL. I highly recommend this meal since it comes with mac & cheese if you love mac and cheese. If I didn't eat half of the fries I would've been able to finish my meal. Dave's Choice- My boyfriend ordered this meal. It came with 8 chicken strips and a waffle. Honestly my boyfriend even had enough to take home with him but he finished all his waffles and he also loved the syrup. Food wise this place is pretty good. I love a good authentic classis chicken and waffles and this place nailed it. I'm not sure if this restaurant is just understaffed but not having a server on the floor and having your bartender serve guest who are on the floor is just not okay, especially for a Saturday night. Even to get refills on our drink, they took so long to get that for us. In the end, a guy came up to our table and apologize for the delay. I'm not sure if this was the manager, but the effort was good. Will definitely come back since their food was really good. I really hope they add more staff, as this would help them tremendously.

Yelp
Their food SLAPS!!!! Some of the best soul food I've ever had on the west coast!' They truly know what they're doing. Everything taste's just like your grandma made it!! You can taste the LOVE in every dish!! I had the "Lil Kim" and man the chicken was amazing!!! The yams made me drool! Everything was so good and even the bottomless mimosa's were the best too. I definitely will visit them again and would highly recommend!!!

Yelp
Let me start off by saying phone service was great. Ordered our food through Yelp and called to see if it was ready we ordered about 1:20pm and order time for pick up was 1:45 to 2:05 then got pushed to 1:59-2:19 decided to call and the gentleman was very friendly and at 1:50 it was ready unfortunately let me state if your alone and want a pick up an order there is no curbside pick up near jack london square area so it was impossible to find parking just for pick up. So big downfall to pick up order. Thankfully even though the hotel next to it is for customers only a security officer let me park real quick for a pick up order. Ok back to the food They use plastic containers that don't hold well for fried chicken which makes your food soggy and not crispy. I ordered the Gordon's bank it's one breast chicken with Mac and cheese and yams and cornbread. Chicken flavor was good by definitely dry the Mac and cheese was good and the yams are cut too big too enjoy. I usually like mine smashed like a sweet potato casserole the corn bread was also dry wish they added a honey butter to it to keep it moist.

Yelp
1st time visit to San Francisco and heard SO MANY great things about this place so I had to try it out! Stopped in for lunch with my family of 5, including a picky teen, a picky pre-teen, and a toddler and was pleased to find something on the menu for everyone! Brunch or soul food there are plenty of options. We chose to go with soul food and tried chicken wings and waffles, yams, greens, Mac and cheese, smothered potatoes and cornbread and everything was 5 star! Oh! And did I forget to mention BOTTOMLESS MIMOSAS were only $20!!!!! Customer service was also top tier. Our order was promptly taken once seated, food came out quickly, and our mimosas were kept full. Definitely a great place for breakfast, lunch, brunch, or any meal of the day! Black FAMILY owned!

Yelp
My husband and I were very excited to try this place and the waiter was really nice but it took an hour to get our food and when I asked for pickles for my burger, they told me they don't carry any in their restaurant. The vibe was nice and music was good but do not come here if you are hungry. The people who got seated before us and after us got their food before we did. And to top it off, they never gave us silverware so after waiting an hour for our food, we also needed to wait longer to get our silverware. The iced tea tasted so bad like chemicals, we had to ask for it to be taken off the order. I would like to add for all the burger people out there, pickles are essential for burgers. Why have a burger on the menu if there aren't any pickles??? I was so upset that I didn't even eat my food.

Poonam M.

Yelp
I came here randomly because I saw they had chicken chicken and chicken. I order the chicken and waffle option which gave me one waffle and two chicken wings. Over all this was a good option I shared and it was a good size. I really like the waffle it was thin and crispy and the chicken was good it was dipped in buttermilk. We also order the drumstick wings and this was one thing I did not like it was dry and it felt like it was re- fried. The service was okay - they kept bring other people food to our table and we would tell them we didn't order. They would take it back and give it to the correct table which made me wonder if my food ended up on someone else's table. Overall my experience was okay.

Tracy W.

Yelp
We were a large group of 12 getting together for a Friendsgiving meal. Waitress was awesome and friendly. The chicken seemed like it was already fried but reheated. I was told by my friends that the waffles were good. I didn't care for the greens and I can't place what seasoning or additional flavor was added. The mac n cheese was dry and I had a half of yam on my plate - not sliced, cut up or mashed a bit. It wasn't crowded. I really wanted to give this place high marks.

Yelp
We were warmly welcomed by Derek, who shared that they are family owned and their photos were up on the walls. This was great! I felt at home. It's always wonderful to be greeted when entering a restaurant. The welcoming didn't stop there. Every employee we passed on the way to our table looked us in the eyes, smiled, and welcomed us. We got to our table and got settled. Our server, Ms. Marva came to take our drink order. She was very personable and friendly. She knew the menu like the back of her hand. I ordered the bottomless mimosa. Somebody should have stopped me! My hubby wanted to get all of his $15 worth, so I drank three of them. Oh my! ‍ We placed our orders, and our food came out hot and ready to eat. I ordered the chicken and waffles with the egg. It was delicious! Everyone pretty much loved their order. The order with the black-eyed peas and greens was just okay. The greens didn't have much seasoning, and the peas needed some as well. We'll still be okay to try again another time. We appreciated and loved the hospitality and care during our meal, and we would love to visit again. Thank you for everything

Yelp
A warm, comforting dim lit diner style restaurant on the corner of Jack London Square. Come here if you're not looking for anything fancy, just simple comforting food. There is also a bar top and some TV's if you want to watch the warriors game in peace. Service was good, didn't expect them to roll out the red carpet. It was 1 server, he told us to grab silverware and some menus and sit down. He did everything he was supposed to do, no complaints. Fried Chicken 6.5/10 Underwhelming. Not much batter on it, not well seasoned. Nothing special. Waffle 8/10 Crispy just how I like it. Mac n Cheese 8/10 Nothing compares to that yummy processed cheese taste, brings me back to my childhood. Red Beans & Rice 9/10 Loved it! Seemed as if it was made fresh within the hour! It wasn't thick and saucy, but still had flavor! Candied Yams 10/10 Wonderful! Had some whole pieces and some soggy mashed pieces full of brown sugar cinnamon buttery goodness Smothered Potatoes 8/10 Not a fan of potatoes but they did a great job! They still held their shape and had a nice thick flavorful gravy on top I would definitely come back.

Yelp
One of the best fried chickens I've ever had. The fried thigh is hella good. Good flavor and crispy on the outside. It's like a thin skin but crispy. The pieces were a bit small but the flavor is on point. The wing was good too but not as good as the thigh. The sides were okay. The mac was p good. Cornbread kinda dry and cold. Waffles is ok.

Tanya W.

Yelp
As soon as we came in we were welcomed by one of the owners who showed us the wall of his family. We got a big booth and recommendations from a gorgeous and sweet server. We pigged out and everything was delicious. I will definitely be back when in the area.

Yelp
Visited Oakland for the first time and had to make a stop at the Home of Chicken and Waffles! By far some of the best chicken and waffles I've ever had. First, I'll say it was easy to find and locate nearby parking in a garage across the street from the restaurant. There was about a 20 minute wait time on a early Sunday afternoon. Host and servers were friendly! I ordered the Keith's Tackle, which comes with two fried chicken wings, a waffle, and mac and cheese. Wings were nicely seasoned! The mac and cheese was good but a little too cheesy for me and not enough pasta noodles. The vibes of this restaurant give off a old school diner and loved the decor! I will definitely be back and highly recommend if you're looking for a good black owned restaurant to support in Oakland!

Yelp
I've been meaning to try this place in the neighborhood and after feeling like getting brunch; we decided to try this place out. We came in around 1145pm on a Saturday and came just before the lunch rush came in. It was great to see the place get completely packed. Most tables were taken by 1230pm. We noticed the portions looked huge so decided to split the Lord BJ which comes with 4 pieces of chicken & 2 waffles, 2 of which were smothered in gravy. We opted for chicken breasts which they charged an extra $5 for. It was worth it though. The chicken was juicy and was really flavorful especially with the gravy on top. The waffle was also warm, fluffy with crisp edges and perfectly complimented the meal. The only downside is they didn't have a lot of veggie dishes to complement the meal but in general, expect this meal to be on the heavier side. You can get your veggies in the next meal. For two people split, it kept us full even through dinner. Overall; I was very satisfied & will certainly return in the future. Prices were reasonable (especially if sharing). The service was also top notch & am just glad there is another great brunch spot walking distance that we can come back to. Highly recommend everyone try it! It seems like it's been in the neighborhood for a very long time & will continue to stay that way :) Parking: you can park by Plank (except that's pretty pricey) so I recommend street meter parking if you can help it

Yelp
Okay so yes I m. Dendinger came to home of chicken and waffles with my best friend. We decided to come here after me not working near Hayward anymore so it's been more than 6 months since we have been here. So we wanted to get drinks for sure since we have not seen each other in a while my friend went with the Lemon drop I went with the Fruit-Kiss drink for our meal this is what we went with. I got Keith's tackle but I told the waiter I don't want Mac and cheese since I can't have that but I'll substitute that for yams I also ordered a side of fries extra crispy. My best friend got dale's choice with a side or Mac and cheese and a waffle as well. We decided to return our drinks since the drinks were not good at all. They tasted like pure rubbing alcohol it was not drinkable at all I decided to go with a coke and my best friend decided to go for a Dr Pepper. Overall food was amazing as expected as soon as it came out I had to tell the waiter my order was wrong I told him as you can see I did not wanted Mac and cheese since I can't have it. It took him so long to give me my yams I was almost done with half of my order. As soon as the yams came out the meal was complete. Over all the place looked amazing just one thing the seats must be upgraded since the tables were so close to the seat you almost are fighting for air. But anyways food was amazing just wish our favorite waitress was there the older looking lady with glasses. She always makes us feel at home when we eat there.

Keturah W.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting and I must say that EVERYTHING was on point. The service was top notch from the moment we walked in the door we felt as if we were being invited in. This is not a typical experience at a black owned restaurant so I was absolutely delighted to have this experience. On top of the AMAZING service the food was excellent! I had the chicken and waffle meal and got wayyyy too much food for me to handle. But the portion sizes, prices, ambiance, and everything else was lovely. My fried chicken is the chicken my mom makes that I don't want I have to make, it was crispy, moist, and they had the hot sauce!! My waffle was bomb! The syrup was thick, flavored beautifully, and I couldn't stop eating. Hubby loved his waffle and omelette as well. We will definitely be coming back. Praying for their continued success!! Beautiful black owned business.

Yelp
I was on the fence whether to rate this 3 or 4 (so I guess my overall impression is more a 3.5). We ordered Keith's Tackle, sweet potato fries, and peach cobbler. There was some confusion when we placed an order for pickup via phone and then arrived to get it, where they were only able to find an order with the exact same items under the name "Dan," and not under my partner's name - I'm not sure if they just misheard it over the phone, or if they mixed up our order with someone else's. They told us to come back 15 minutes later, at which point they still didn't have an order under my partner's name and asked me to confirm what we had ordered, and then gave us a bag that was labeled as being for "Dan." It did have the correct items in it, though. The main dish was pretty decent, the mac and cheese was pretty thick and oily. I wish the sweet potato fries were crispier but I realize part of why they were soft was likely because the food was sitting there for so long since it was labeled as for "Dan" and was not handed to us when we first arrived. The peach cobbler is very soft and super sweet. Price was so-so relative to quantity of food.

Yelp
This is my first time at this establishment. The service wasnt bad. I think the server seemed a little uninspired or bored but it was adequate. She was helpful and nice and answered my questions. The food was tasty. However the thing that killed it was the briken furniture (moved tables twice) and i was shocked, after settling into a booth at how dirty the firniture was, namely the upholstery. The place was hot inside as well. When i mentioned to my server and the oerson cleaning tables they both agreed.. and then nothing. No one closed the door, offered to turn up the air...nothing. Jack London Square is such a nice area and i think this place could do well if the updated and/or maintained the place. When the place is dirty looking, it makes you wonder if the kitchen is dirty and then you wonder if the cook washed his hands...well anyway its a matter of standards and appearance. Im not saying That a clean looking place doesn't do gross things behind the scene or vice versa but it does make you wonder. There is a parking structure across the street so parking isnt an issue.

Andrea K.

Yelp
Came here with my family during our reunion. The food was fast but also the service was great! I got the chicken and waffles and some peach cobbler everything was bomb. We were a huge group and they were so kind.note a black owned business and I would strongly recommend supporting them!

David B.

Yelp
omg ... I'll get straight to the reason for the 1-star. I took a bite out of my drumstick and red juice (blood) started to drip from the center - the center was dark pink / red. So, I notified the server that my drumstick was undercooked. WITH HER HANDS she grabbed the undercooked drumstick and took it to the back. I thought I was going to get a new piece. But noooo ... a few minutes later, she brought out the same drumstick (with my bite mark still on it) on a small plate. People at my table were horrified and looking at their plates ... wondering how their food was handled. I was excited to come here. But I'll never come back again. What a shame.

Lia K.

Yelp
So this was pretty good, I don't really eat chicken and waffles all like that because I think it's a weird combo but I'd liked it I'm not a fan of the syrup though It was like to strong not like sweet But the waffles was as 10! Also the Mac and cheese and yams!! 10 CHICKEN 100000 I had the succulent breast AND YES IT WAS SUCCULENTTTTT THE SMOTHERED POTATOES WAS GOOD ASF Also loved the grits but it was lumpy I don't know if that's how it suppose to be but when I cook grits it don't look like that but THE GREENS A MILLION TIMES GOOD ASF WHOEVER COOKIN NEED THEY ATE WHILE DOIN A HANDSTAND

Yelp
We dined here for a quick early dinner after being at a nearby work function all day. Hungry, exhausted, and in need of some relaxation - this family owned restaurant was the perfect stop to help us unwind. Our party of 4 had our temperatures checked at the door and were given hand sanitizer before being seated in one of the corner booths. The restaurant is big in size and could hold a healthy number of diners before capping out at capacity. The restaurant has a vintage feel to it with decor all over the walls expressing family, community, and the love for good food. We ordered a couple of cocktails from the bar - the Cadillac Margarita and Yellow Bus which were both tasty. Each of us ordered an entree from the menu -- I was told the menu items were named as tributes after each family member's name. Food was excellent. I ate every last bite of my chicken wings - it was fried to perfection jammed packed with so much flavor from its seasoning. Our server was also very prompt and courteous. We were impressed that she took our entire table's order without writing a single thing down -- even when each of us had small modification requests. Talk about an impressive memory! This joint is located in the heart of Jack London Square so it's not hard to find at all. There is parking in the nearby parking garages but avoid those areas during peak times because this spot gets packed!

Yelp
Food is awesome. I almost forgot about this place until a friend just ask me for a recommendation. I love the area its in. The service has always been good. Now I have not been here in a couple of years, but I am sure it's the same.

Marjaya C.

Yelp
The food was great.. the syrup is addictive.. service was nice.. loved hearing the history behind the restaurant.. bathrooms are iffy.. but the food makes up for it

Jessica S.

Yelp
Been wanting to come to this diner for years and I finally made the trip at the right time. They don't really open for breakfast, only lunch, so it's been very hit and miss for me to catch them open. Came here for brunch and the ambience was rather...hmm...dim? It definitely feels more like a bar restaurant and they're not used to daytime customers. That's the vibe. And they do have a full bar in the middle. It's this old school half circle at the center of the restaurant and many of the cocktails sounded good. It was just too early for cocktails to day drink. Since it's a southern style restaurant we got the staples. We had fried chicken and waffles. The waffle wasn't very pretty or special. The fried chicken seemed dry. The fried tenders were yum and the sauce was tasty. The sides were good, except they gave us the wrong one (you choose out of a bunch of options). When we pointed this out, the server came back with a tiny side of what we ordered. Man, that's great and all, but we wanted more of that side and not whatever you just gave us. And that's kinda how I felt about the service here in general. It's very, "take what we give you", which is not exactly the kind of service I'd return for. Food was good overall, but there are other fried chicken places in Oakland and we don't have to return to this place.

Yelp
We walked out within minutes of coming in. Absolutely rude and unfriendly staff. On what planet is it ok to seat guests near a trash can? We tried sitting somewhere else and were told not to sit there. That's ok, keep it. This place is old and dated anyway. Everett and Jones right around the corner. Great service. Yummy food! Beautiful restaurant.

Yelp
AMMMMMMAZING OMG. This place is absolutely worth every bite. The names on the menu are for actual family members. Constance (I hope I spelled it correctly) who is 63 and does not look it at all served us Army kids and even sang to us. I ordered Keith's Tackle and I cannot begin to tell you how delicious this place was. The waffle and syrup were absolutely delicious. The mac and cheese just melts in your mouth. The family restaurant beats the chain restaurant Roscoes no disrespect. Definitely going back before our course ends.

Yelp
The chicken was so tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. The drinks were surprisingly strong on the alcohol. Great place for brunch.

Yelp
Whaaaattt, now that's some fried chicken and waffles . First time and not the last. We were a party of 7, enjoying bottomless mimosas, its worth the price, and I had Lord BJ - 4 pieces of chicken southern style, two waffles and a side of Mac n' cheese. So delicious and comforting to the soul. Everyone made you feel at home. Thank you Kim, fabulous server!!

Yelp
Wow, one of the best fried chicken places I have ever been to. The seasoning on the fried chicken is just perfect. Super comfortable flavors. Great flavor. Not under seasoned at all. The texture was also perfect. The skin outside was crispy and great. The meat inside was tender. Not dry at all. Super satisfied with the chicken. The waffles here are also perfect. The waffle is thin and really great. I like it that way. The flavor was super good and made you feel comfortable. Easy to eat. All very affordable as well.

Yelp
Excellent!!! Ok so my husband and I love this place but we hardly come because it was way across town but now we've moved into the area and it's in walking distance! We order the Dales choice and the keith's tackle! Honestly there syrup for the waffles is so addicting it literally taste like it has some kind of drug that keeps drawing you in for more! Way better than Roscoes chicken and waffles in LA this place puts that place to shame! You can tell the macaroni and cheese is home made! Also, the owner is so sweet very personable and makes everyone feel like family! He even came around and offered us three shots of E-40 new Spirits To try because he doesn't drink! What a great way to spend the evening having a great dinner with my husband in a great environment! Definitely recommend! We will be back!

Yelp
Omg yum!!! If you're in Oakland and near Jack London and want some soul food, come here!! The food was super good, fresh, and the sides were . I'm a "sides girl" and I could've just ate their sides! Only reason why I'm giving it 4 stars is because the booths are a little out-dated and could use some extra love and maintenance. The booths' seats move, and sliding in and out of them with 3 other grown people wasn't exactly easy. Lol. But the food was great, the service was also great! Love the atmosphere!

Yelp
I finally got around to making this review. This is my experience from a few months ago. Fed my friend and I HARD chicken that was over fried and ROTTEN. Server ask my friend "you good?" While making a face and tried to take her food away ONLY FIVE minutes after it was placed down on the table. The server was extremely rude as well. She had a braids with huge gaps in between them due to hair loss or some thing. Probably from being a hater karma snatched her hair. I GOT HORRIBLE FOOD POISONING AFTER EATING THE FOOD. DO NOT EAT HERE!

Yelp
The chicken and waffles were horrible. The chicken wings were flavorless. Who can mess up chicken wings? The waffles were so thin. I couldn't even eat it all. A total waste of money. I want my money back! Home of Chicken and Waffles not the place to go for me ever again!

Yelp
We went here with a big group and had a great time. They have a huge menu with a lot of different things on it. I had the sweet potato fries which weren't really my thing but another member of my party enjoyed them immensely. I liked the nachos a lot. The server took our order and then came back a few minutes later to double check our order which I thought was really good because it's easy to make a mistake when you've got so many people.

Yelp
Wow what a pure disappointment. Haven't been in here since before Covid, was up in the area and had such a great visit the first time. But sadly was so disappointed this time. The chicken was super dry, the candied yams were cold, the corn bread got smaller and was so dense and dry it took two cups of butter just to eat it. Also got the Mac n cheese, must have been the bottom of the pan bc the cheese was globular and not melted, yet the noodles were all burnt and broken pieces. Also my lemonade had a strong metal taste, probably bc they haven't used their bar lines in awhile. My fiancé had chicken with potatoes in gravy & collard greens. Her chicken was dry also, the greens were super bitter and salty (we know for sure she got the last, bc the table next to us were told they were out), and her potatoes were like warm the gravy had a strong peppery taste from the roasted pepper in the sauce. Not sure we will go back anytime soon.

Yelp
Waitress had bad attitude, took long time to sit me. Costs are absurd. $18 for homeboy, then get 1 extra waffle and it's $32. She said nothing about the 2nd waffle being insanely expensive. Asked for 2 chocolate chip waffles, only 1 was. Said waffles are big but theyre tiny. Got 3 small chicken wings. Food tasted bad even. Was the waitress last night Feb 24, but entire place is bad. never going here again.

Yelp
This place is okay, but I'm not coming back. We ordered: -Lord BJ (four pieces of chicken, gravy on the side, two waffles) -Mac&cheese We ordered for takeout, but indoor dining was an option too. The wait was about 20 minutes, so we just took a stroll around Jack London Square. When we got our order, we ate in the car, but the meal was so underwhelming. Chicken was okay, it was horribly dry. I had to dip it into the gravy and hot sauce to make it edible. Not flavorful either. The waffle was sooooo soggy... it was really disappointing. Like it was microwaved. Or perhaps because it was in the box? We ate it 10 mins after getting it though. Mac and cheese isn't my specialty but it was so plain. It was so mushy. Again, no flavor. I simply wasn't a fan of this meal, but you may be!

Yelp
My son's birthday request was his favorite restaurant. Great location and I was surprised I got good parking cause Jack London Square can be pretty crowded on a Saturday. The service was excellent, our server was very nice and just a joy to chat with. The food was great! We both ordered chicken and waffles, which is something I usually don't do, but it was my sons birthday. The waffles were excellent, I loved the unique flavor and texture. They were literally cooked perfectly and that hint of nutmeg just added bonus value to the flavor. The chicken strips I ordered were good. My son enjoyed his fried chicken. It looked golden and crispy. I normally don't order sweet tea, it's just too much sugar for me but I wanted to try. I'm glad I did because it was delicious! The best sweet tea I've had in California. I was put off by everything coming in plastic containers, I think that's a waste. However, everything else was just excellent and I couldn't give anything less than a 5-star rating.

Yelp
3 stars for the waffle, which was pretty great. I got the Angie's platter which is a waffle, chicken breast, and grits. I subbed grits for Mac. The Mac had been in a warmer for too long and basically was a congealed mush of cheese and regret. The chicken "breast" was not what you'd expect, basically some pile of bones that you could surgically remove 3-4 bites of chicken from. It was cooked properly, but there is absolutely no seasoning. The few bites I managed to extract from the bony mess tasted like beige paint looks. I'm one of those "if chicken and waffles is on the menu, that's what I'm getting" types, but this let my taste buds down. Service was fine for what it was. Also, the AC is either off, or broken, so it was noticeably too warm to stay there long. Skip this one.

Yelp
Visited with some family. Good location & the customer service started off great phenomenal. Greeted immediately, sat down and ordered. Food came out hot and fresh. My only minor complaint would be my chicken came out late which isn't a huge deal, people get busy. I got it about 15 minutes after the rest of my food & it was fresh but our server wasn't the person who caught I didn't receive my chicken someone else did when passing by and asking us was everything okay. After that interaction our waiter didn't return for a while and we had to ask for boxes then track her down for the check. She was at other tables but didn't interact much with ours. I would return again because the food was good but I think the service could be improved. just a bit. 5/5 for the food 3/5 for the service

Yelp
Came here and had a $10 lunch special which consisted of a waffle and 6 fried wings. Also had a slice of caramel cake. The waffle was fantastic, probably the best I've ever had. The wings didn't have much flavor. Caramel cake was good

Yelp
Our waitress was amazing! Our food was amazing! The owner was amazing! Please go visit this black owned business and enjoy this good home cooked food.

Yelp
Awesome and family owned home cooked with love and affection. I love the chicken here I'm telling you the waffles are soft and they just melt in your mouth with the butter all family work here too and they really make you feel like you're at home once I'm back in town for sure. I'll be stopping again. I've been coming here since I was a kid. :)
