"There’s a big sign greeting you as you enter this restaurant that says “there’s no place like Home.” We get the sentiment, but it’s also not entirely true: Home looks like pretty much every other nice neighborhood restaurant in LA. There’s a good patio with lots of foliage and twinkly lights, the food is Italian-ish and affordable, and it’s always full of locals. But these are all positive things, and despite the fact that Home is not a totally unique concept, it’s a solid choice for a casual date or dinner with friends. Also, they do a decent brunch." - Amy Clark
"In a neighborhood that knows good patios, Home is one of our favorites. The leafy space on Hillhurst doesn’t exactly feel like a home, but it is a great place to hang with a few friends and burn an entire Thursday afternoon drinking mimosas and people-watching." - brett keating
"Bar Restaurant is a weird, experimental French spot in Silver Lake that’s somehow perfect for every occasion. Their menu is a blend of recognizable shared plates, like super soft jamón Ibérico and marinated olives, mixed in with unique takes on moules frites (it comes buried beneath a creamy Dijon sauce and a mound of curly fries) and NY strip steaks. They’ve also completely transformed their adjacent parking lot into not one, but two impressive patios, where you’ll find perfectly spaced-out tables, lanterns the size of UFOs, and a cozy atmosphere that’ll make you have minor heart eyes for anyone within ten feet of you." - kat hong
"Bar Restaurant in Silver Lake was one of our favorite new restaurants of 2019, with a menu that’s as inventive (hello, moules frites with curly fries) as it is insanely delicious. In 2020, they’re keeping the weirdness alive with a giant new patio, a new name (it’s now called “Bar Restaurant Valet Parking”), and a menu featuring plenty of new dishes like charred eggplant with heirloom tomatoes and caramelized yogurt, and soft shell crab with Szechuan au poivre. Don’t quote us on this, but strange dates make for the best dates." - brant cox
"Despite what you were told in high school, being weird can actually be a very good thing. Case in point: Bar Restaurant, the strange and fantastic spot near Sunset Junction that will make you very proud to have been called weird all those years ago. Walking in is like stepping onto a pink-hued planet - one that happens to have a massive wine list, innovative versions of classic cocktails, and a menu full of interesting takes on traditional French food. That includes moules frites with curly fries and milk bread, confit duck with blackberry vinegar and Szechuan spice, and a truly remarkable chicken liver with white chocolate and cranberry. We told you it was weird." - brant cox, kat hong, brett keating
