My first visit here was on Halloween and have been back just a couple of times since then. I had a pretty decent time on Halloween and thought the DJ did a fine job. Played music that the crowd definitely was vibing to, dancing, and singing along. But the other times I went back was pretty much a letdown. Now I'm not personally a fan of "house music" but if you are then this could be just the spot for you. But the same beat over and over again, no lyrics, it's just hard to dance to. The overall vibe of the place is pretty neat. The underground basement vibes are super cool. Drinks are reasonably priced especially for NYC. But if I hear that there's a DJ and a Dance floor, I expect something that isn't "house music".

I visited Home Sweet Home during the Procession Goth night which was a fun experience! The place has a really cool vibe, although the audio system is really bad on the dancefloor. The speakers near the front of the bar were great but not so great near the restrooms. The staff were very friendly and always available to grab a drink from.

Checked out Home Sweet Home honestly, it was kind of a huge letdown. The crowd? Wayyy too young and loud for my liking. It felt more like a frat party than a chill bar. Lots of people barely able to hold a conversation over the music, which was cranked up way too high for a place that’s supposed to have a cool vibe. The place was overcrowded, too. It was hard to even get a decent spot to hang out. If you're not into squeezing past people all night and trying to order a drink over the noise, you might want to skip this one. Overall, not terrible, but definitely not my scene. I’d rather go somewhere with a more relaxed vibe and less chaos.

My favorite bar along Chrystie Street and one of the best bars in Manhattan hands down. Great crowds, variety of fantastic hip music! Live bands do perform every month. The selection of drinks are great from lagunitas to Hot Toddy’s, you will find your favorite drinks here, if you don’t see it, ask the bartenders and they’ll whip up your favorite! Great for couples and large groups! They have tables available. The atmosphere is dope with booming music and live DJ’s mixed with the disco ball and flashing lights, you can’t go wrong here, throw a birthday party and private events! Came here the other night for a friends birthday. Me and all my friends dressed up to celebrate but 2 security guards were wearing meta glasses (yes, the ones that record. You could tell it was recording because the lights kept flashing in the lens) and they were recording us dancing even after we told them to stop. Even after they took the glasses off, they remained inside and kept circling around us. It made us all extremely uncomfortable and ruined the experience as a whole. Men will be men :/

at first, I came here for the ambience, the atmosphere and the wild crafted cocktails but after some time, I really realize I was here for the customer service. savon, my favorite bartender and Seamus the sexy sex symbol really made this experience the best ever and I will be returning also they had really nice sour candy that they shared with me 10 out of 10

A security person inappropriately asked my friends for a lap dance and sexually harassed them. That is the most unprofessional security that I have dealed with. Really ruined the vibe of this place.

This place was super vibey with the smoke and the disco ball. There was a few tables in the back, which were still available at around 10:20 PM on a Saturday night. I got the Lychee Martini, which was pretty good.

Always a fun time at home sweet home. Divey.. good music.. booths... espresso martinis are good. No food .. bartenders are chill. Would recommend on a random week night for the vibes

I hadn't realized I had been here before until I went to catch up on reviews, and suffice to say, I've had a much better time than my first time. My friend and I sat in the front bar area and got some great drinks with ease and we could talk! The music was pumping in the back for those who wished to dance. Perhaps we went on a lower key night here than when I came many years ago, but I was thoroughly pleased with everything this time. I got a frozen drink since it had been such a hot day when I came so it was extra refreshing. The bartender was attentive and quick on pours. Ambiance was cool too

This is one of the best places to dance on a Friday or Saturday night. Welcoming and unpretentious, there is no cover. From what I remember, drinks are reasonably priced. The DJ plays a pretty good mix of new music and old favorites. Any set that includes I Wanna Dance With Somebody, Dancing Queen, and We Found Love is a win in my book. The dance floor gets crowded but there is still room to breathe.

Good music and cheap drinks! I feel like they place a very specific type of music like pop throwbacks/some 80s so the music is good if that's the vibe you like. Overall the place had a fun atmosphere and it was quick to get in. I came on a Friday night

I've been coming to Home sweet home for 5 years now, and it's one of my favorite hangouts in the city. They have fantastic music and drinks and the bartenders are always attentive and friendly. Don't miss out on the music! They host a variety of shows that feature some amazing international music on friday/Saturday nights.

Really liked the ambiance walking into the place but we sat down and no one came up to us to ask us for drinks. I think we were supposed to go to the bar, but it's alright since we were mostly just people watching and talking. The dance floor had a bunch of people having hella fun and the dj had some good music playing. It reminded me of a dive bar and maybe might come back again when we come back to visit Manhattan.

I love love this place. Love they have a speakeasy upstairs and a bar downstairs: the service here is always a one. They treat me so well when I go. The ambiance is turn up. Home sweet home is a go to place for me. It can be slightly inconsistent but the inconsistency is in the "good to awesome" range not the "shit hole to meh" range. It's near a lot of other fund bars and restaurants so you can make it your pregame or last call. I have noticed lately that there is sometimes a line at 12-1am (and I don't do lines, especially not for a dive bar). No cover. The drinks are pretty cheap but stick to beers, shots, and basic mixed drinks. This is not a cocktail bar. You will be disappointed. There are big booths that you can cozy up to your boo with (this bar is regularly rated on the top bars to make out in lists - yes really, I'm not kidding) and the booths are defs a reason. Be prepared to share one with some randoms especially later in the night when people want to sit. There is no coat check but plenty of room to stash coats around the booths and also on hooks on the back wall. They sometimes go a bit overboard with the fog machine and in the summer it gets hot AF. The DJ is usually playing fun 90s-mid 2010s music but sometimes you'll get that guy who just wants to play trance and like, I get it, but occasionally you need a lyric to dance to! If you want somewhere dark and divey to make out, this is a great bet.

Well, I went there for Breakfast and was surprised no one was in the restaurant besides my friend and I. I will say overall, Ambiance can be better. It would have been nice to have nice music playing and a little clean up to make the place a little lighter. Overall, it was good. The food was amazing and the staff was so sweet, kind and attentive. The place really feels like home and the cook is a great cook. We loved our food given I am so picky.

My iPhone was stolen from here on July 19, 2024. Thieves operate here, beware. It was stolen right out of the purse I was wearing around me! Bartenders couldn't have cared less when I tried to report it.

Descend down the stairs into an old-school gritty LES bar - If you dare. You will find in eclectic mix of Party People down there, from NYU students, to singles, to couples who, if they like your swag, might approach you to join in with them for a "good time." Great energetic music and a cool dance floor as well. Don't miss it.

This is the most underrated dive bar in all of NYC. Love Love love this place. Truly home sweet home. Used to bartend happy hour, and the DJ / dance floor half in the back is bangin. 11/10. Never visit the big Apple without stopping back home

Only one a/c to power the whole place makes home sweet a home a sweaty dancing affair during the summertime. However, the drinks are on the cheaper end for the area and the DJ they brought in absolutely killed it with a solid mix of 90s and early 2000s tracks. Special place!

The DJ was so bad that I literally had to remove myself from the bar. If you want a party that feels like a middle school dance with alcohol, this is the spot for you - be ready to hear the same twenty white people songs you've heard a million times before from other uninspiring events.

Home sweet home was literally our go to place. The music is normally amazing, the vibes immaculate... but tonight? Absolute disappointment. We've never waited in a line but tonight there was, and it was full of children. Should have deterred us then but we knew how much fun we have so we waited. Once we got in it was full of literal pubescent boys. I felt like I was at an 8th grade dance. And then a child yacked on the dance floor. Truly sucked and not what it once was. I am traumatized and will not be return. If I could give you a zero I would but I can't so I give you a one.

I've been here three times. Once at 5:00pm with friends from work. The second, Sunday night during a holiday weekend in the bitter cold. The third, it was being raided by the cops. But let's ignore that one. Both (actual) times were underwhelming. This spot has been deemed as a "Hot spot for mid-late twenty year olds." Thought hey! That's me! So my late 20 year old friend dragged me, and my mid 30 year old friend here. You'll love it you said. Ain't no shame in my dive game. I love Peculiar Pub and The Library. Probably will draw the line at HSH tho. It reads: Grandpa's Midwest Mancave. If that's your thing ok sure. No stars deducted for that. I will probably be bringing my taxidermy obsessed mate here sometime. The bartender was a bit of a dick. Which was alright because we were early and the first ones in the bar. He warmed up later so it's fine. Happy hour prices were good. The second time I was here, I liked it more. Dragged my friend here from Tropical Bar. Prices were cheap. No cover, and empty. Dj was playing some vintage jams and there was a single bloke on the dance floor fuckin' shit up. Respect. But confusing as to why nobody kicked him out. Grabbed a booth and struggled through 2 pints. Stayed for the disco ball. I'm going to try this again on a Friday night, proper. But don't have much of a high expectation.

Sufficient bar for cheaper than usual drinks in the area, when we went the AC was not working and it was 100 degrees outside so not super ideal. There is a speakeasy upstairs , I would check that out next time. Otherwise, cool spot if AC.

Stopped in on a Wednesday night at around 7 because we had about an hour and a half to kill before our dinner reservations. Home Sweet Home is a bit hidden - you have to go down a set of stairs to get in. Inside is super divey usually, that means drinks are cheap - they had happy hour until 8:30! They have tables you can sit at but if you sit in the back, there's a very distracting disco ball that makes you feel like you're tripping. Luckily, somebody left at one of the tables in the front, so we were able to move there. Music is also loud but if you don't mind it, it's a cool place to hang out.

Really cool and hip place! I was here at 8pm on Saturday and they were playing 80s music. There's a disco ball and fog machine in the back. I had so much fun! Happy hour prices are reasonable.

Incredibly weird but really fun atmosphere. Be ready to sweat more than you ever have in a club (there is zero air flow) but also be ready to dance the entire time. Very small dancing area but everyone makes it work. The DJ is a bit odd and only plays pretty old songs that are remixed with even older songs that don't really match the beat, but overall it's just a really fun place to go with friends. You'll laugh and dance and that's about all anyone needs out of a club anyway. It's also cheap ($5 a person) and it's overall just a really fun place to experience at least once in your life.

Teddy is a great DJ! Friendly bartenders! Friendly People! Was visiting a gf in the city, went out to explore on my own and made friends pretty quickly and had so much fun dancing. It's kind of kooky-weird, and the music is randomly jumping decades, but they play all the good hits. It's super fun! I would recommend bringing a friend! Also they have frozen margaritas! And they're yummy! Fun time :) Also located in a cool area with tons of other bars, so if you're looking to just have fun in the city, it's a great area. Right next to J the train too!

I'm here in the early evening on Jan 1st of 2016 it's basically empty. It's in a basement so u can imagine I missed it and had to walk back. Lol It's cool decorations, I love all the animal specimens. Just let you know, they don't do cocktails... So we just ordered some beer and mixed liquor. Price is really good. Lol it's bit wired that just after 2 rounds of drinks, the bartender closed our taps, tho she's still working, not switch shifts or something. Feels like ok u guys are the last 2 persons, please also leave...

I went to Home Sweet Home on a Wednesday at it ruled! I was super early so I had no concerns with crowds. All the beers were $3 for happy hour. Happy hour is until 8:30. How lovely! And if that wasn't cool enough, the music on Wednesday took me back to my high school years, The Cure, Joy Division, Mazzy Star, Smashing Pumpkins and The Pixies...do I need to keep going. I think not. I found out later it was goth night on Wednesdays. Ha! I love it! This bar officially moved up on my list. PS Taxidermy! I'm a fan!

(Pre-COVID) Bartender ignored several of us who tried ordering our group drinks. Possible racism as we were a group of Asian Americans and everyone else in the bar was white, including the bartender. The name of this bar is literally the opposite of how we felt here. We came to this bar to meet up after work and were dressed casually (as was everyone else at the bar actually) and we were so stunned we left and took our business to Fig 19. But seriously, what a trashy place to be picking and choosing customers. I hope management sees this. A bar smack in the middle of chinatown decides to refuse service to a group of asians. The gall.

Vodka soda tasted like hairspray. 5'4" maximum for all customers - including the men! Overall killer bar bc the music rocks

It's kinda hard to rate a dive bar. My friend and I came into Home Sweet Home actually looking for the bar above it. It was early, maybe like 8 pm or so, and the bar was filled with a chilled fog, like someone dropped a bunch of dry ice in water or something. My friend got a Moscow Mule, and I, a bottle of Modelo. Together, the drinks were $15, which I can't complain about. Bartender was in no hurry, but I would have conserved my energy if I were him, the place was dead. Nice guy, though. Don't miss the interesting taxidermy.

Went here last night for a friends birthday. Little bit of a wait outside and a $5 cover charge. Once inside I was excited-my kinda place where dancing drinking and loudness was in full swing. It's only getting 3 stars because the DJ was not good at all. It was weird mixes of music that didn't mesh well together, choppy transitions, and basically everyone was confused. That's a lot coming from me, considering music wise I'm as basic and easy as it gets. I can see this becoming a place I'd love but it was a rough first impression.

It was 5pm on a Saturday. Raekwon and Ghost Face Killer joints were pumpin. I was b-boying on the dance floor with my homeboys. Shit was mad fly. Vodka sodas was flowing. Will be back.

It was a good time. Very confined space for drinking and dancing. Very difficult to get a drink. It is definitely a bar for 21 year olds. There isn't much room for dancing. Just think of the scene from the movie Matrix part II, when the city of Zion had a cave dance party. There were also a large concentration of people from middle earth. If you are 6 ft tall, you will feel like a giant.

At 1AM on a Thursday night (technically Friday morning), my friend Katie M. coaxed me into visiting one last bar to round out a long weeknight of New York revelry while I was in town. You New Yorkers--so much goddamn stamina. Home Sweet Home was popping when we dropped in, the dance floor full of bodies. The place was on the divey side, in what was essentially a basement. It felt kind of stuffy, but in a lively way, and we were able to find seating at the edge of the dance floor. I had a whiskey ginger, my drink of the night, and it was the same as the whiskey gingers I'd had at the last two bars. Reliably good, with a decent amount of whiskey. The bartender worked quickly, a definite positive. I doubt I'll come back here--it's just one of many random bars I've visited in New York and other cities--but I had a good time, considering my level of exhaustion. If you need a place to dance in the LES late into the school night, Home Sweet Home is worth checking out.

This is a fun dive bar when you walk downstairs with great rounded banquettes on the right bar on the left. It's very low-key everyone's friendly and they have a live music in the back which was fun. Drinks very reasonable . Even the bouncer in the front is friendly.

Home Sweet Home is a dive bar that plays funk with a dance floor. There was a $5 cover on a Friday night, kind of annoying considering how much of a dive it is. The bar was pretty crowded, but getting a drink wasn't too difficult. The inside is pretty dark. There are also some stuffed animals (actual taxidermy, not children's stuffed animals) littering the walls. It was a pretty strange vibe overall. Vodka Red Bulls were pretty expensive (over $10) considering I already paid a cover and how divey the place is, but at least the music and dance floor is fun.

Thursday night from 8pm-11pm. The bar area was full but there were tons of couch space. Happy hour was awesome. We ordered 2 drinks for less than 10 bucks. The best part was the DJ. He used songs from the 80s, 90s and current hits and put them all together. It was pretty awesome. Great place for a chill night out on a date or just light dancing with your friends.

Amazing music and happy hour!! Loved the disco ball and dance floor. Even without happy hour drinks are reasonable. staff was awesome.

TLDR: crowded, rowdy, charges a cover, decent music but DJ didn't have any of the songs we requested Came here on a Saturday night around 1:30am. It was a $5 cover charge to get in and then an additional $3 for coat check. Although it was pretty crowded, with many people shoving past each other to and from the dance floor, we decided to give it a chance since we had already paid and the music was pretty good (mix of throwback, edm, and top 40). Things took a turn for the worse when we were waiting in the bathroom line. Two women started arguing when one accused the other of cutting in line, which escalated into shoving then full-on fighting (punching, hair pulling, throwing a glass of water). No one immediately jumped in to break it up, but eventually two guys pulled them apart. At no point did staff get involved from what I can recall. After this incident, we decided to head back to the dance floor. Given that it was so crowded, people kept on sloshing and spilling their drinks onto each other. At one point, some girl dumped half of her cold drink on me and, instead of apologizing, simply said "it's only water." Although I was enjoying the music, my roommate thought it'd be fun to request a song. She decided to go with the most basic middle school throwback ("yeah" by usher), but the DJ said he didn't have it. When she asked why, he responded with "I don't have songs I don't like." I jumped in to see if he'd play anything by David Guetta or some of Calvin Harris's older hits, but he didn't have any David Guetta and said he only had songs from Calvin Harris's latest album. At this point, we gave up and decided to head out shortly thereafter. Given that so many bars with dance floors don't charge cover and have less rowdy crowds, would pass on this one.

Stupid bitches skipped us on the line and told the short bouncer with dreadlocks that we tried to fight them. Airhead bouncer believed them right away becuase they were girls. We waited 30 minutes on line to get skipped and kicked to the back of the line. Wasted 30 minutes for this bumass bouncer to kick us off the line.

What a weird place located in LES. This place just had a huge bouncer outside which made me realise that there is a dive bar which exists here. Apart from the bouncer there was no indication that a bar exists in this basement establishment. We were checking out this place after our fun time at Nurse Bettie and Happy Ending the other day. The place is just average. When we walked in there were a host of hippies dancing on the floor and almost everybody was completely wasted.The only good thing there was no cover to get in otherwise I would regretted a lot. I guess this bar does not make up to my list of hangout joints in LES.

Sooooo much fun!! I want to go back!! We came here at around 10:30PM on a friday (cover starts at 11), and the place was already almost packed. They have a big dance floor in the back, but it's not all dark and scary...they have lights and music and dancing and $7 whisky sours. While the decor was ~alternative~...and the floors weren't the cleanest I'd ever experienced...overall a perfect option for dancing on your hot bae like a tipsy fool.

This place was a bust from the jump, cool entrance as you walk into your mothers basement..that's where it ends! Some girl at corner table probably on a tinder date gone bad was super drunk loud & obnoxious, staff should have asked her to leave but they didn't. We had to listen to her talk shit and curse, blah blah blah.. she finally left! Strike 2: They serve draft beer in PLASTIC pint glasses? Strike 3: There's stuffed animals all over the bar area? Like bobcats & marmots.. in a punky bar? May be a good place to meet a tinder date so when it doesn't work out you get just abandon her amongst the wild animals!! Prices are cheap... talk later

This place is a gem! I came here after work on a Thursday just for drinks, apparently they have 80s night on Thursdays and it was so much fun. I wasn't even there to dance but I danced my ass off because I made friends. People here are friendly. Every time I come here I make friends and the drinks are good. I love the disco ball in the back!
