This cash-friendly spot skips Americanized staples in favor of northern Chinese home cooking: housemade dumplings, hand-pulled noodles, steamed buns, and cold dishes. The Buffalo News highlights its dough craft; Visit Buffalo Niagara points diners here for authentic flavors near UB.

Just not my speed. Only thing that was bad was the ramen. The meat was tough and the broth was bland. I added salt and chili paste to make it palatable. The General Tso Chicken wasn’t what I was expecting at all. It was a sour sauce and no spice. It didn’t taste bad just not what I wanted. I asked for crispy chicken and it was soggy. Literally one piece of broccoli. Crab Rangoon was good but the sauce was not. I would have taken it back but didn’t want to go back out in the rain.

Detour 15 min from freeway. Actual price about $0.5 to $1 higher than the menu. Food tasted ok. But 韭菜盒子 really disappointing. So small.

I never write a review but this food was so awful I had to. I'm unable to eat anything with green peppers so my food went right in the trash. My husband took one bite and tossed it in the trash cause it tasted straight like super sweet green pepper goo. Weird they put green peppers in their sesame chicken. Their buns are just filled with their dumpling filling not like any other pork buns I've had around buffalo. I went out of my way to try this place only for it to be an extreme let down. When i called about a refund because of the green pepper issue and how it doesnt say anything about green peppers in the chicken anywhere I was met with a condescending attitude. If you are thinking of trying this place and had any other chinese food anywhere around and liked those places don't try here. It is expensive, a rip off and just not good. You are better off going to Macy's next door.

Google
Home Taste is my go-to spot for delicious dumplings! I’ve tried every variety they offer—shrimp and pork, Napa cabbage, and more—and each one is always amazing. You get a generous portion for the price, and the quality never disappoints. On my last visit, I tried the green beans with pork tenderloin for the first time, and they were phenomenal—flavorful and perfectly cooked. The atmosphere is clean and welcoming, and the service is always friendly. It’s a great local spot, and I’m always happy to return. Highly recommend if you’re in the area!

Google
Food and service was very good. Scallion chicken very good..super tender and flavorful. Only complaint my son had was that he didn't like they left the bones in. Steamed vegetable buns..a little lacking in flavor. Chicken leek dumplings were very tasty. The little noodles N1 was awesome. Definitely will come back.

Google
Whole in the wall place with authentic Chinese food in Kenmore. The scallion pancakes and spicy chicken were the stars of the show. Dumplings were good and the steam buns were tasty, but could have used a little more filling. Fair prices and the food doesn't take too long to be made.

Google
Authentic Chinese food! Delicious! Incredibly fast service. Free hot tea available when dining in. A great selection of vegetarian options. Super crispy fried tofu! Love any dish with eggplant also!

Google
Great little place with amazing food and friendly service. Based on other reviews, we ordered the spicy chicken w. Red peppers (n.43). It was delicious! I hate saucy chicken dishes, and this was perfect. No sauce, perfect amount of spice, crunch and saltiness. We also ordered n.42(shredded pork and scallions) which was so delicious and a cozy dish. The dumplings and buns were also great! Remember to order your steamed rice separately as the dishes do not come with it. Will be back!

Yelp
Delicious authentic Chinese food if you want to try something new. We have been meaning to stop by and were in the area not too long ago. We ordered lamb with cumin and stir fried boo choy. Both were large portions, flavorful, cooked well and delicious. We weren't sure how the dishes came but they were literally just what was listed in the title. So we ended up sharing for a little more variety. The lamb was juicy and very flavorful. Lots of cumin and cilantro. The book choy was fresh and a nice light palette refresher when paired with the lamb. We can't wait to come back and try more dishes. There are a few tables for dine in. I'm sure they do a ton of take out as well.

Yelp
A cliché but it's the best Chinese food in Buffalo. Compares to the best Chinese restaurants in Toronto.

Yelp
A little taste of home in Buffalo. Some of my favorites from Home Taste is Mapo tofu, egg tofu, and Chinese vegetable with fresh garlic.

Melissa B.

Yelp
Amazing food. Great steamed dumplings. The chicken chow mein was also fantastic. I would highly recommend checking it out.

Yelp
I have been to Home Taste twice recently. I went for the freshly made dumplings. The first time, I had the fish with leek dumplings, the second time I had the pork with leek & shrimp dumplings. Both are very good. The leek is not really leek, it is Chinese chives. I also tried the cold dishes. The celery with dried tofu skin and stir-fried gluten, dried tofu and peanuts. The gluten dish usually is a Shanghainese dish, but this one they added spicy sauce to it, still tasted good, but not what I expected. Another item I tried was the fried Leek with egg dumplings. I would called that a turnovers or empanadas instead. There were 4 in the order. After I had the dumplings I was already full, but wanted to try the turnovers. I started with one, continued with the second and had to tell myself to stop! I saw a variety of dishes on the menu, but they have a lot of northern Chinese dishes. But the cashier didn't sound like a northerner. She said they are from Fuzhou China, which is a Southern province. But they bought the restaurant from the previous owner who was a northerner. They kept most of the menu. They are doing a good job with the food!

Yelp
We did take out from Home Taste tonight, which is easily the best Chinese food in the area. Kids agreed. My son doesn't even like Chinese food, but he cleared his plate. Estelle said she wants to go back 5,000 more times. My daughters both ranked the sesame chicken and fried dumplings as their tied favorite. My son liked the rice most , followed by the well seasoned green beans. My favorite was the shredded pork with bamboo shoots. Call in the order, otherwise you pay more for the convenience of online ordering through a 3rd party. Food was ready at my requested time. My son liked going to pick up the meal with me because of the Asian green apple hard candy at the counter. The place has a small eat in area with 7 tables of 2 or 4 tops. For being a small place, it is decorated more than I expected from the exterior view. Canned soda for drink options. No dessert on the menu.

Yelp
One popular opinion with Asians is that the best Asian restaurants have 3.5 star ratings. The food at Home Taste is amazing but the service was mediocre, which is still fine and adds charm. We had steam dumplings, fried cod, strings beans and pork, and an excellent spicy soup. Mildly rude waitstaff was amusing, and I happen to like the decor.

Natasha S.

Yelp
This place is by far the best Chinese food I've ever had, their dumplings are 10/10. Shop is cute. Staff is nice.

Yelp
Love the simplicity and choice of this (seems mostly Northern) Chinese restaurant. Prices are reasonable. It's elbow-to-elbow, so it's not a quiet ambience, but I go there for the food. Takeout and service can be a slower wait
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
Just average for Chinese food. The staff seems indifferent when you come in the door and focus on getting you in and out. Food was hot. Didn't love the general tso but the sweet and sour was amazing. The inside looks like any run of the mill Chinese take out place. Will order again and try some new items.
google avatar

Yelp
Home Taste is the place to go for authentic Northern Chinese food! All of the noodles are made in house and have the most wonderful texture. TABLES: There are only a few table and it is a rather small restaurant so unless the lunch/dinner rush is over the best option may just be take out. Either way the food is worth the wait. FOOD: - 9. Pork with Leek & Shrimp fried dumplings (12pc) delicious and savory. The dipping sauce is vinegary which paired nicely with the combination of ingredients. In our current economy $10-12 for 12 dumplings is worth it when they are this tasty. - 15. Spicy Beef Noodle Soup is perfect for a cold day! The fat left on the tender beef dances on your taste buds, the spice warms but does not destroy your tastebuds, and the greasy broth coats the noodles for a perfect slurp every time. - D20. Fresh Green bean with Minced Pork tenderloin makes you feel better because you're eating something green and as a bonus it's tasty! This is definitely the place to go for dumplings and noodles.

Yelp
This establishment was created with home in mind. All of the food here is super authentic. Dumplings are excellent, chicken and rice dishes as well. The staff is friendly and helpful with menu items. Great warm dishes for a cozy meal inside. Since COVID, they only do take out

Yelp
They told me 25 minutes for my order. 45 minutes later i still dont have my food. Its not busy either. Also alot of really young children working in the kitchen. Doesnt seem very compliant with NYS labor laws.

Yelp
In a small-ish city like Buffalo, authentic eats are sometimes hard to come by. I had never had authentic Chinese before getting takeout from Home Taste, and now I don't think I want to go back to Americanized Chinese! We placed a takeout order at 5:30 and they told us our food would be ready at 6. The staff at the restaurant were friendly and helpful in getting us our order! A bun lover, I just had to order the minced pork steamed buns. They were massive! Soft, fluffy, and full of delicious minced more stuffing. Four came in the order so they were well worth it! I opted for the scallion chicken and my boyfriend ordered the chow mein with vegetables. My chicken was delicious: looks can be deceiving because the oil sauce it was served in packed so much flavor. The chow mein was also yummy, the noodles and flavor overall were delicate. If you live in the area and haven't tried Home Taste yet, you have to! Authentic Chinese will change what you thought you knew about Chinese food. This family-owned business deserves all the love!

Yelp
Finally got to try out this authentic Chinese food. No idea what authentic Chinese food is suppose to taste like but this is definitely different than any Chinese food I've ever had. And it was great! We started with pork and napa steamed dumplings (#1). Filling was delicious and the dumpling was the perfect thickness. Sometimes they can be too thick. Then was the shredded pork and green onions in Peking bean sauce (#42). This dish was loaded with pork with the green onions more a garnish on the side. The shredded pork was the consistency of spiralized ground pork, if that makes sense. Excellent dish. My favorite was the stir fried squid with cumin sauce. The squid was cooked to perfection and again like the pork, no skimping on the squid. I would have never thought of squid with cumin but it worked. Neither of these dishes were anything I've had before. Only thing I thought strange is that there dishes are not served with rice though you could order it. Maybe this is authentic Chinese? I saw plenty of other things on there menu that i'd like to try. This will definitely require another visit. Review #300! 2021-35

Yelp
Came for scallion pancakes. Had a craving after reading about them in a book. They are only doing takeout. Nowhere to sit and wait, you can't even go inside. It's an interesting solution to Covid, and I'll bet highly effective. But the scallion pancakes hit the spot. Update 80 2021

Yelp
Food is excellent and moderately priced. Service is very fast for dine in and take out. Everyone there is very nice, family atmosphere.

Yelp
Very authentic dishes with great tasting food. Best Chinese food in Buffalo. Hands down.

Yelp
I've been told repeatedly that this place is THE place for Chinese UB students so I finally went to get some food for myself and my daughter's boarder, a Chinese exchange student. I loved my dumplings. And he did the shrimp-noodle soup was very real to his expectations. It was home cooking. I'm going back multiple times.

Yelp
Dear Home Taste, Missing youuuuuu. And your # 36 eggplant with pork. But mostly Youuuu. Because choice is good and Home Taste has excellent choices and great food. Hurry back.... But first-- Stay well and stay safe.

Yelp
Realize we're going against the majority here, but: We ordered take out, and did not look at our recipt closely until we arrived home. Our bad. The amount was too high. Called the restaurant. They charge a fee for using a credit card if the order is less than $10. Of course, they have no signage to that effect, nor were we told. We would have paid cash; our order was very close to the $10.00. Bad start. We don't like being charged extra without any warning. We had chicken with leek steamed dumplings. They were good, but didn't find them special.

Yelp
This was my first visit to "Home Taste". I had some of their food at the "Yelpies" so I thought I'd take my son & give them a shot. It's a very small & quiet restaurant. The employees are nice. The place was clean. We looked at the menus while the waitress made us some tea. She was so sweet. I decide to get the Kung Pao Chicken $10.00 My son got the Kung Pao Jumbo Shrimp $13.00 We each got a bowl of white rice $.50 cents each & we split a plate of Chao Mian (chow mein) $8.00. My chicken was pretty good, but my son did not care for his. We both loved the Chao Mian. The portions were pretty small & the prices were a bit high, except for the rice. It was a bit too much money for me, so I probably won't be returning. I wanted to & still do plan on trying new places that I haven't been to yet & I did. (New to me,not necessarily,NEW) Where I go next, I don't know. I'll find out when I get there.

Yelp
Home Taste seems to be one of Kenmore's best kept secrets. The restaurant is extremely modest and casual. Every single dish I have tried at Home Taste is absolutely delicious, authentic, and extremely reasonably priced. I recommend going to Home Taste with a minimum party of four people. My ideal meal at Home Taste is a family style feast, trying a little bit of everything and splitting it with your friends. The more people at your table, the larger variety of dishes you can try. Favorite menu items: 1. The steamed buns are an absolute must-order. My favorites are the Pork & Leeks steamed buns. 2. The Pork Belly dish with a side of white rice 3. The Fried Eggplant with Pork in a Brown Sauce, with a side of white rice 4. Pork Steamed Dumplings 5. Short Rib & Green Beans *This restaurant does not accept credit cards, cash & Venmo only

Yelp
Moved back to Buffalo over the summer and needed to find good Chinese food this side of the border. A friend suggested Home Taste and I'm glad he did! Great authentic Chinese food. The pork and oyster mushrooms, and rib tips were the main dishes, with shrimp crystal dumplings and spring rolls as the appetizers. The won ton soup had fresh delicate won tons and a delicious green that looked like spinach but had a wonderful floral taste. I was planning the next dishes that I would order as I was waiting for my order. I could tell it was going to be that good.

Marlene A.

Yelp
Huge menu. Mostly spicy options...had the minced pork steamed buns that were incredible with the dipping sauce provided....wonton soup had a dozen wontons per bowl and not a drop left ... My chicken curry special was not what I expected but it was flavorful... the sliced beef and green beans went really quick!!! 3 bowls of rice and another order of chicken and shrimp steamed wontons for the guys. The 3 of us ate very well for around $100.00 including tip so not too bad...will definitely go again!!

Yelp
I've ordered from here countless times -- in my humble opinion, it's the best restaurant in buffalo. The menu is MASSIVE, but unlike most places where that is a red flag, I've yet to have anything from here that I haven't enjoyed. Buns, scallion pancakes, various meat dishes...so good. The lamb with cumin is especially fantastic, treat yourself to some takeout from here and TIP WELL, they deserve it!
google avatar

Yelp
Visited the buffalo area and tried Chinese food at this restaurant! Really enjoyed the food options here (all authentic Chinese food menu choices)! This is not a place where you can order sesame chicken or chicken with broccoli cause that's more of an Americanized Chinese flavor. The dishes here reminds me of a home cooked meal by my parents and each taste is a reminder of what true Chinese food tastes like. I highly recommend coming in with an open mind and checking their wall of photos of what their dishes look like if you're confused to what to order. I enjoy the flavors and would come back again when I'm in the area. It's a hole in a wall place, cash only! And definitely worth it. The place is a bit small so you may have a wait time depending on when you go but I noticed many people ordering take out too if that happened. There's a waitress there that is very friendly and cheerful, who always greets you with a smile and eagerness!

Greg O.

Yelp
I love this place. Absolutely the best Chinese place in town. It's nothing to look at and it has only a few tables, but it's the food that matters. A lot of the menu northern style. Some dishes have mala peppers. Dumplings of all sorts and styles are a specialty, Try it.
google avatar

Korianne L.

Yelp
Home taste serves amazing food and they are very organized for order pickup. We tried the scallion pancakes that come with a sweet dipping sauce (really tasty), sesame chicken, wonton soup, and spicy dry fry chicken . The best part was that the wonton soup was homemade/most evident in the fresh herbs in the wontons, along with delicious broth that was much better than traditional Chinese takeout. Another dish to note was the spicy dry fry chicken. This chicken was the unanimous favorite dish tried by the group, and since the peppers are in whole along with the chicken pieces, the dish could be enjoyed by spicy lovers and non-spicy lovers alike. We will definitely be ordering from home taste again!!
google avatar

Mar R.

Yelp
Best ever. Authentic food, not like the usual Chinese restaurants in the are area that make what they think Americans want. Recommended by a friend who lived in China for a few years. Large variety of food. And it all tastes different, rather than the same flavor but different food items.

R T.

Yelp
Was my first time ordering from here. I have heard great things. But I was disappointed. I bought orange chicken sesame chicken and general tso chicken. They all tasted the same and no real flavor. I was disappointed
google avatar

Leo P.

Yelp
I don't know if ii is just me but if you're not Asian you get the 3rd class service here. They start taking the order of other tables that arrived later than me and I had to bring the attention about that. My order just was a simple dish and I noticed that every one else food came out of the kitchen first. I want to make clear that the 1 star given was for the service obtained not because of the food. I felt I needed to beg for the service.
google avatar

Jeremy S.

Yelp
Okay, the ordering (you call from the sidewalk and then wait while they make it) is a little weird. And they gave a 15-minute estimate and took nearly 30 minutes. And the paying with the phone thing was also weird. But it's a Pandemic, and everyone's doing what they can, and I'm all out of anything bad I might have had to say about Home Taste. That's because the food is awesome and cheap. I don't know what "authentic" Chinese is, for several reasons: I'm not Chinese, I've never been to China, and also China is huge so it makes far more sense to talk about regional cuisines, just as it makes more sense to do it that way in the United States. I think this is Northern Chinese (?), but again, I have no idea what I'm talking about. What can be said, definitively, is that this food is so distinct from typically generic Chinese buffet/carryout food that it should be its own category: whatever they're doing it's unique to Home Taste. So, those buns: you'll look at the price and think that you need four, but you don't, because in addition to being fresh and stuffed full of deliciousness (vegetarian deliciousness in my case, but they rage wide), they're the size of a freakin' grapefruit, and if you eat more than one, you're not eating much else. They rock. The stir-fried clams with vegetables are, for me, anyway, worth the price of admission alone. The dumplings are sublime. The menu is huge and can probably accommodate everybody from vegans through conventional omni folk. Home Taste is also a bit hard to describe, because it doesn't use the standard dish names (e.g. general tso, beef lo mein, etc.) and the descriptions on the menu are both sparse and half in Chinese. Bring a spirit of adventure and make a bold choice or two. In any case, I'll definitely do Home Taste again, and maybe even one day be able to grab a meal inside. Carryout will have to do for now. Wear a mask, folks.

Yelp
I have never eaten any bad dish here even if I didn't know what I was eating. Tonight was not different. I ordered Super Mala Tang it has a red chili pepper which denotes a spicy dish and that it was. To the best of my understanding it is a soup or hot pot dish with many ingredients some I was unfamiliar with but none was left in my dish when I finished this spicy hot selection. The sauce is made primarily of dried chili peppers, chili powder, douban paste, Sichuan peppercorns, clove, garlic, star anise, black cardamom, fennel, ginger, cinnamon, salt and sugar. I had to google that because I had never heard of this dish before -Mala (麻辣) means numbing and spicy, while tang (烫) means 'boiling hot' in Chinese. Malatang as a dish originated on a stretch of the Yangtze River in Sichuan, where people made a living from towing boats upstream. For meals these men would throw whatever they could find - raw meat and vegetables - into a pot of boiling water for a simple meal. Over time they started to add more seasoning, like chilli and the other spices. According to traditional Chinese medicine, this would combat any dampness in the weather as well. It was served with a side of white rice. It contains a beef broth garlic onion and glass noodles. Also it had lotus root, green leafy vegetable that was a little thicker than greens that was very tender. There is some meat scalloped pieces of chicken, minced pork and little sausages that were probably pork but not like breakfast links. It was deliciously exotic and I would definitely order this again. It was one of the more expensive items on the menu (14.99) however, it came in two quart size containers and will feed two people easily possibly more. The restaurant is serving take out only passed through a Plexiglas box. The order finished very quick. This I believe is authentic Chinese food as there's Chinese text inside and out and on the menu. My favorite Chinese cuisine restaurant in WNY as far as I'm concerned.
google avatar

Matthew P.

Yelp
Authentic Chinese food, it's been a couple of years since I went there so I can't remember what I ate. But having been to China and having Chinese family, it's pretty legit (not General Tso's chicken style)
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
This wasn't the most amazing Chinese food I've had in Buffalo, but for the price, it was one I would still consider returning to when I want to try a bunch of different dishes on a smaller budget. I found the string beans to lack flavor, but the chicken was delicious, though a bit oily. The buns were okay, and since you can't get them many places in Buffalo, I would still probably order them again. Overall not my favorite, but not bad.

Michael F.

Yelp
It's so good you forget to stop eating. Best food in western NY hands down: everything is seasoned to perfection, I have gotten nothing that has been bad ever.
google avatar

Michael Z.

Yelp
This place has just seven tables, and every one of them was occupied from the time we got here until the time we left. The menu is almost overwhelming, because you want to try everything. The specials on the board today included lamb with cumin, which was out of this world and served on a bed of cilantro. We also got pork with eggplant, or was it eggplant with pork?? Who knows and who cares!? Either way, it was hot, tasty, fresh, and delicious, easily the best eggplant I've ever had. We ordered some steamed dumplings too, which were good but not as great as some of the previous requests had said. Maybe I just got the wrong ones? Absolutely coming back!
google avatar

Janus C.

Yelp
The most legit Chinese restaurant in Buffalo. The mapo tofu, vegetable dishes and dumplings all slap.

Yelp
Hubby and I first discovered Home Taste at the Yelpies 2020 Lunar Year edition. After enjoying a nice buffet of many of their dishes, we knew we had to visit Home Taste! The restaurant itself is small. Not many people can dine in, maybe 20. But it's nice and I appreciate the labeled pictures of some dishes on the wall. The menu is a little over whelming as everything is written in 2 languages and there's a lot of dishes so the menu is very compact. As for the food, during this visit we had the eggplant and pork which we also had at the Yelpies and it was just as yummy dinning in at their restaurant as it was at the Yelpies! The texture of the eggplant is slightly crispy and oh so good, def try it! We also had the Kung Pao Chicken during our visit and at the Yelpies. It def had more sauce in it during our dine in visit than the Yelpies. It was a bit too much for me as it tasted like Franks red hot sauce and I can't eat spicy foods, but it wasn't too spicy. I just would've preferred less watery sauce. Definitely try Home Taste when you're in the mood for Chinese food!

Yelp
If they cooked with beer, they'd be Homer Taste. If they bought a lot of property, they'd be Homeowner Taste. And if they were me, they'd be Homo Taste. Hi boys. What to get: Dumplings What else: All the dishes are home style authentic but not all of them are good, so far One of many really excellent authentic Chinese restaurants that has been opening up around the Amherst Tonawanda North Buffalo area. The reason why a lot of Clueless yelpers will say it is the only authentic food in town is because they don't really know authentic Chinese food, or because they limit themselves to that which is within the city limits of Buffalo (unless something outlandish happens such as Shake Shack opening up on Transit Road). (Notice the heavy sarcasm.) Some of the dishes here are good and some are not so good. What they do have is really nice service - probably better than most of the authentic Chinese places in town. And really tasty dumplings. Probably the best I've tasted in Western New York. The pan-fried variety are the standout. My first trip here was with a girl who then led me out back to make out in her car. That was f***ing hot. We ordered several different dishes and I noticed the soups were pretty vinegary. I came many other times after that, and the most embarrassing was when I ordered that huge dish (braised chicken or whatevs) that looks so good on the Yelp pix, only to realize it's $20 and is meant to feed a family - not just me. Which was compounded by the fact that I didn't even like it (hides). Nothing else I've had here has been worth writing home about but I've only tried 7 or 8 dishes so I will let you know if I find something other than the dumplings that is worth a glowing recommendation. The other top Chinese restaurants in Western New York serving authentic food along with what to order from them are: Tasty Express (especially Tofu Dishes or Eggplant), Mandarin Garden (especially Chicken Eggplant), Peking Quick One (especially Poached Slices Of Pork and Sliced Fish in Chili Oil), Gin Gin (especially the Chicken Chop dishes), are all wonderful. Crystal (Millersport), 546 Donburi, and China King (Maple & N Forest) also have extensive home style menus, but only the latter is a place I eat regualrly. Anyway I need to go hang out with some Hos, because after all, I have the best Ho Taste. I would know. I mean, do you know any bigger ones than me? No I did not ask if anyone has a bigger one than me. Mind out of the gutter. But since we're on the subject, does anyone?
google avatar

Kristen P.

Yelp
It's not a very big place, but it is definitely not to be overlooked. There have been times where I have come in and would hear customers sitting at the tables speaking Mandarin to each other -- a sign that this is an authentic place. It is a favorite for Chinese cuisine amongst UB students, even though it's a 10-15 min drive depending on which campus you're coming from. I've been here a few times and I've had to wait ~20 min for my food each time but it's worth it. I recommend getting multiple dishes and sharing each dish with whoever you are eating with. I've had the pork fried dumplings, pork steamed buns, braised beef noodle soup, clams with black bean sauce, double cooked pork, spare ribs with string beans, and some other dishes I can't remember (or took pictures of, sorry!). Each dish was stellar and I honestly don't think there is any dish you could go wrong with from Home Taste. If you are ever craving authentic Chinese food, go here! You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
This is my second time trying this place and I have to stand by my three stars. I have no complaints but it wasn't great either. My kung pao chicken and steamed buns were just okay, without much subtlety in the flavor and a little bit too much oil for me. The chicken was cooked well and the vegetables were just tender without being too mushy, the rice was decent. It was merely generic and not noteworthy, is all. Go ahead and eat here, it's fine, you'll satisfy a craving for ordinary Chinese takeout.

Yelp
Good things come in small packages and don't judge a book by it's cover are the appropriate idioms here. The service is warm and welcoming, the food is fantastic, and prices are more than fair. This place is small however, and seemingly always busy. It can be tricky to get a seat. Do not come here expecting your typical Chinese take-out. Most of those standard items won't be found on this menu. This is the real deal Chinese food, I'm assuming as I have never been to China. The first time I came here, I came with a friend. We shared the pork buns and an order of friend chicken and leek dumplings. The order of pork buns came with four and they are large so, we took two home. The dumplings were just incredible, absolutely the best I've ever had. I ordered the eggplant in brown sauce with pork. It was good, but I liked my friends plate better. He got the shredded pork in garlic sauce. It was phenomenal but would have been too spicy for me to eat an entire plate of anyways. He really enjoyed that dish. The portions are very generous and we both left with take home containers. I returned this evening and again enjoyed an order of dumplings. This time there were two different varieties on special. I chose the sour Napa and pork. That was a very good decision. I also ordered the spinach noodle soup. At first I thought it looked boring, but the taste was great, it was just simple and really enjoyable. I felt a little bad because I dined alone this evening and took up a table for four. I had 3 extra seats at my table and three other tables had 2 extra seats. It seams they could accommodate more guests if they had more tables for 2 that could be pushed together when needed. At one point I offered seats at my table to some folks who had planned to come in but decided they'd take it to go. Those people definitely thought I was a weirdo. Oh well. The limited seating is the only caveat here. TIP: do not miss out on these dumplings!

Yelp
[Note before you go: they are cash or Venmo only.] I think I hit them on a bad night this time, as I remember it being wonderful the last time I was here. This time it was packed, with every table taken (which is not saying much when there are seven tables to begin with). While I stood to wait for my food to-go I realized too late that the dishes I had been wanting but didn't see on the menu were available only on their new menu, which is not the one they hand to you or pass out when you dine in. I've uploaded photos of it here so nobody else misses out on their full offerings. I got the General Tso's Chicken and two steamed pork buns. Unlike other pork buns I have gotten, these did not have any sauce inside, and tasted as if they had been reheated quickly. As a result the top of the bun was dry and crunchy, while the bottom was still moist. Inside was a fairly chewy ball of pork. If you use the sauce they give you on the side it tastes pretty good, but by itself it was a bit plain for my liking. I caveat this to say that I don't know if this is the way it is authentically done which they were aiming for - I can only compare it to other American Chinese restaurants I've been to in the past. The General Tso's was also different than expected. The chicken was not breaded and a little more stringy than usual. The flavoring was good, but not overly spectacular, with the sauce being the highlight rather than the overall dish together. They seemed packed and overworked tonight, so I will caveat it with that again. I will probably be back at some point but on my hunt for my new favorite restaurant in the city, they are not currently on top of the leaderboard.

Yelp
Food was fantastic, very reasonably priced. Pork and leek dumplings were great, Chongqing noodles were fantastic and a huge portion size. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Fabulous! Best Chinese food that I have ever eaten. It's fun to try new things every time but we always order the steamed dumplings. The last time that we went to pick up our food, they accidentally gave our food to someone else. They were extremely apologetic and threw in some free food (a Schezuan broccoli dish) and 2 herbal drinks.

Yelp
A hidden treasure in Kenmore! There are only about 6 tables, but worth the wait. Get a few plates to share. This is not your typical "American/Chinese." Every dish is unique and carefully made. Dishes to try: fried eggplant (I usually do not like eggplant, but this was special) spare ribs with green beans.

Yelp
Gosh where to start. There were 3 of us and we ordered 9 different dishes. The scallion chicken tasted just like my grandmother made 20 years ago. The braised beef noodle soup and homemade noodle soup with salty minced pork are delicious; noodles are perfect. Service is wonderful and you can taste it in the food. So sad I live so far away otherwise this would be a regular stopping place.
