The 15 Best Beach Camping Spots in the US

"Located along Kachemak Bay, this campground is large enough to fit more than 100 RVs and at least 25 tents. Beachfront campsite rates begin at $35, but there are far more sites to explore if you don't want to be right on the water. The season for beach camping runs from May to September." - Travel + Leisure Editors

I don’t usually leave reviews, but this location deserves it. The camp site and view was beautiful, and the facilities, like the showers, laundry and bathrooms all work seamlessly. I stayed for a week and met almost every front desk person, and all of the ladies were so sweet and kind. Mostly I dealt with Lindsey, who is an angel!! We will definitely be back and I highly recommend you stay here.

Gorgeous camp spot! Kids really enjoyed themselves on the beach and the facilities are very well maintained. We stayed beachfront and the only reason it got a 3 star is because the after hours staff doesn’t actually do a 10pm quiet hour like stated in the reservations. I was told they would quiet people down at 12am. So sleeping in a tent with small children while your neighbors are rowdy and drunk is not fun.

This was the worst campground we have stayed at. We paid for 3 nights when we arrived. On the last night we got a knock on the door from a person stating we were in their spot. Upon going up to the office we were told that someone in the office had checked us out because they thought we left early. The lady in the office was not very helpful. We packed up everything and moved to a different spot. When we woke up the next morning we had a bright orange notice that we didn’t check in and to go to the office by 9:00 to pay. We did get a credit for a night, however, I sent an email to the owner (because nobody was answering the phone during their open hours) and she didn’t care. Very poor customer service in a very run down park.

Great spot on the Homer spit. Walking distance to the Salmon Sisters coffee shop on Ice Dock road, the small boat harbor, and the ferry terminal at Lands End. Beautiful views from the beach front sites. Showers are hot, laundry & bathrooms adequate. Sites are very small and the office has an annoying habit of putting people right next to you even in a mostly empty campground.

Beautiful views from most campsites. The bathrooms were clean and provided soap and towels. The showers cost $2, but they were very clean with hot water and high pressure.

Google
Beautiful views! Great place to stay, though the sites are very packed and close, which would be expected based on location. The main issue is a known open ground in their electrical pedestals. Our 2022 Winnebago would not use their electric on 30A or 20A with or without an exterior surge protector. The surge protector showed no issues, but our built-in electronics detected this issue and would not charge our system or pass through electricity. Talking to the office, this is a known issue. Most rigs and setups just don't recognize it. Management made it right for us, but we had to go talk to them. Great place, but you may be using your generator if you have modern electronics in your rig.

We spent 3 days at the campground. Great location, you can walk to everything. Yes it’s very tight with the small beachfront sites but you get a picnic table and firepit right on the beach. And the views, wow! We are typically not RV park campers and prefer to boondock in remote locations but the location and scenery made it worthwhile. Despite it being 4th of July weekend, fellow campers were very respectful and it was surprisingly quiet. The staff are lovely and so helpful including fitting us in last minute. And did I mention the wonderful unlimited $2 hot showers? They were clean with multiple hooks to hang stuff up and even a swing down bench to keep things dry. Weather didn’t cooperate but we made the best of it. Definitely be prepared for rainy and chilly weather if a front rolls in!

Take the RV place on the beach! Panorama is one of a kind! With bald eagles that thakes salmon in the sea! Bathroom are clean and nice! Worth the stay!

Yelp
We booked a site w/o water and/or power (aka tent site) and provided accurate vehicle information (RV 25ft). When checking-in we were told that the site wouldn't be suitable for an RV. The neighboring similar sites were occupied by RV's & Campervans. We did perfectly fit into the site. They didn't check us in and only refunded the money and the employee & supervisor acted extremely rude, admitted a fault in the booking system but didn't make any accommodation or exception.

Yelp
Best campground location on the Spit. Easy walk to restaurants, shops and the Harbor. Great customer service as well. The laundry area is very clean and the washers/dryers are quite large. Easy walk to fishing from the shore. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Homer Spit Campground is close to the end of the road on the spit, not far from the touristy hustle and bustle. A few friends and I got two adjoining beachfront tent sites here last weekend. Pros: The beachfront sites are as they say - on the beach front. Fresh ocean air, a beautiful view, a beach full of seashells... There are restrooms with running water and soap available at the campground, as well as shower rooms (prepay $1.00 at the office per shower). Homer Spit Campground is within short walking distance from your pick of places to sign up for tours, eat, drink, shop, etc. Cons: The campgrounds are small enough that even when attempting to stay in your own spot, it's difficult to prevent overlapping with other campers. Prices were higher than other spots - $35.00 +tax for a tent site with no electric/water, with a two-night minimum and deposit of one night paid up front. Overall, we are glad we chose Homer Spit Campground. Between the view, ease of check-in, proximity to the Spit's activities, and campground amenities, I felt it was well worth the price. The one thing I would recommend: go earlier in the year. The wind and rain was a bit much for me in a tent. Also, if you would rather die than see other people during your camping trip, don't camp anywhere on the Spit. It stays PACKED.

Yelp
We stayed 3 nights at this rv Park. Our rating is based on the following: Interior space "the parking lot" you have electric hook-up but you are on top of each other. Hated it. Beach view: the next row up, electric hook-up so much better. Would have liked to stay on this row, but no available spaces. Beach front: no hook-ups, fantastic, beautiful views and ocean breezes. The park does provide laundry facilities, dump, water, restrooms and showers. Each space has a fire ring and a picnic table. The maintenance guy, maybe he is the owner is hustling all day keeping things clean and stocked, he does an outstanding job. The park is conveniently located to everything, all in walking distance.

Yelp
It is pay for showers and VERY narrow campsites and not even on the spit. Very expensive for accommodations in the store. Would not recommend.

Yelp
This place is ok. Customer service is very lacking. They never answer the phone. For over a week the voicemail was full and you couldn't leave a message. I'm still waiting for them to call me back. Thankfully we had family in town who went there and reserved a site for us. The site had electricity but no water or sewer. They had a small gift shop, but not sure if they had coffee or ice cream or anything like that. Sites were very small. You can hear your neighbors conversation if you both are in your rv with the windows open. The woman behind the counter was helpful, but had an "I don't care" attitude. If price isn't an issue go to heritage campground.

Yelp
Extremely narrow sites. Advertise WiFi, but trust us, there is NONE. Tv reception excellent. $37.50 for no infrastructure ( does not include anything on your site such as electric, sewer, water, etc.). Too far from town to walk to shopping/res

Yelp
Visited this Campground while staying on Homer Spit. Not the neatest Campground, and we had only electric hookups. Would have been nice to have water and sewer, but for some reason, dry camping is the norm in Alaska. This place is right next to the seafarer memorial, and within walking distance to much of the Spit. Overall, it was decent. We paid about $46 for one night.

Yelp
Near the end of the Spit south of the Mariners Memorial. Dry camping closest to the beach. Electric only hookups next row back. Full meal deal on the row closest to the road. Not the most expensive for a full hookup but the price rivals a regular motel in the off-season. We got a full hook up. The road noise was steady thru the night. But hey, you're not looking for a wilderness experience on the Spit. It's summer, it's Alaska, it's Homer, it's the Spit!

Yelp
We enjoyed camping on the Spit right on the water. It was close enough to the fishing that you could walk to your charter. Absolutely loved the fact that I could take a good shower and do some laundry in the middle of my vacation!

Yelp
If you want to pay a ton of money to follow 800 useless and tedious rules, then stay here. We couldn't do anything without being talked to and having notes left on our car. They have two pages of rules, so don't plan on having dogs, fires, music, friends, food, or fun! Two thumbs way down- I won't be staying here again.

Yelp
The lady I spoke with on the phone was extremely helpful and polite. but that's the only reason it gets a star from us. They messed up our reservation (that was made well in advance). Along with at least 5 campsites around us complaining of the same thing. The sites are EXTREMELY narrow, can barely get your slide-outs out and have room to walk around/hang out on your spot. The young guy running the place did not know what was going on at all, changed the rules and was rude to a few in our group. Also our car got keyed... won't be going back. There's a few other sites on the spit with great campground hosts and much bigger spots!!

Yelp
Great location. Not as nice as other large park on spit but closer to shops. Pay showers.

Yelp
Had a wonderful weekend on the spit. Went with a beach front site, no hook- ups but can't beat the view. Kids loved doing the dock tours and playing on the beach. Clean bathrooms and long hot showers.
