If you've been in downtown OP recently, then you know things are rapidly changing. But there are still anchors amidst all of the hubbub, and Homer's is one of those mainstays adrift in the controlled chaos.
Homer's offers a nice coffeehouse that is doing artisanal coffee drinks and some darn good baked yummies. There is plenty of space to settle in and read or work while you enjoy your coffee or tea, and the environment offers sidewalk seating as well for nice days. The coffee itself is pretty good, a robust house blend, or they offer a bean of the day, such as Guatemalan. My foodie sidekick sampled their Thai Supreme, a breve with sweetened condensed milk, and it registered pretty well. Maybe a touch too milky, but if you love a Vietnamese coffee, then this might be your jam.
I had to sample the quiche, which was a summer tomato & mozzarella offering, and it was smashingly delish! Perfectly fluffy and not overdone, just the right alternative to some of their other baked goods. Pro tip: try the handmade Pop-tarts, which are always outstanding. The baristas are always exceptionally friendly and when there is local music on stage, they speak up for those of us who can't focus well even in peace times.
Parking is kind of first-come, first-served, but it's always within a short amount of steps. Pricing may be a bit higher than some spots, but the value is there. Great local biz offering a good menu top to bottom with a comfortable setting will always bring me back.
