raspberry sorbet was the standout! Stopped by Homer’s for ice cream and loved the retro diner feel. My fiancé had the raspberry sorbet and it was phenomenal — super fresh, vibrant, and packed with flavor. The other flavors we tried (raspberry chip and moose tracks) were decent but didn’t blow us away. We didn’t try the food, but it looked solid — the kind of classic diner fare you’d come back for. Staff was friendly, service was quick, and the space was clean and welcoming. All in all, a cute stop — worth it for the vibe and that sorbet! But I wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way.

I'm sorry but I've lost all respect for Homers at this point. I come here every summer when I visit the area, and the scoops just keep getting smaller, while retaining an insane price point of $9. I mean look at this, it's quite pathetic, and basically tastes like Walmart ice cream. still, many cool young people line up here for the history, so it is what it is.

Ordered Italian beef dipped with mozzarella Sticks. They didn't dip my beef it was dry and they forgot the marinara sauce for my mozzarella Sticks. Ice-cream was some of the best I've ever had but the serving size was so small for the price.

The burger was decently good. However it wasn't anything spectacular. Fries on the other hand were great but I would skip on the cheese. The food was served quickly however they did forget the cheese for the fries. Staff was quick to fix the issue and were overall friendly. In general it's a decent stop for a quick and affordable bite.

Ice cream is great but new ownership is RUDE! We live around the corner, my 3 boys frequent often, I parked there for 30 minutes on a Tuesday AM at 9 (when Homers isn't even open) and they plastered a lime green massive two sticker on my car right in the line of sight of my driving. Totally get being strict during peak hours but come on. Sticker is impossible to remove and I can't see out my window. Taking our ice cream biz elsewhere, and we eat a lot of ice cream. BOOOOOOO Homers!!!!! Hartigans here we come!

À local treasure. It feels like stepping into an old school ice cream shop. Their ice cream is sensational! Reminds me of a shop that used to be called Bills Custard Cafe. Bottom line; make sure you try Homer’s Butter Pecan Ice Cream! It’s my favorite !

Homers, a charming restaurant and ice cream parlor, offers a very friendly and open atmosphere. The made-from-scratch strawberry milkshake was a delightful treat, boasting deliciousness in every sip. On the restaurant side, the lukewarm fries initially raised an eyebrow, but my granddaughter devoured every single one, making them a hit in her book. The real beef chili cheese hotdog was quite delicious, although the cheese and chili with big beans weren't personal favorites. Despite these preferences, the overall experience was great, and my granddaughter and I had a lovely time at Homers. A four-star gem for its warm ambiance and tasty treats.

I've been going to Homes since I was a little girl, and it was in the house to the right of the restaurant. They only offered ice cream and some candies back then. Now, you can get a $5 hotdog, fries, and even a nice greasy cheeseburger. Love going back. Their ice cream is delicious, although I have to watch my diet carefully. It's worth the calories. I was really looking forward to my visit to this ice cream shop, but unfortunately, it didn't go as I'd hoped. I asked to try the banana flavor, which was delicious, and I was excited to order a scoop. However, I was told there wasn't enough left for a full serving, which was a bit confusing since I'd just sampled it. Oddly, my cousin ordered after me and was able to get a scoop of the banana. It seems like her server found a way to make it work, while mine might not have realized it was possible. I was a little disappointed, as I had to choose another flavor that I didn't enjoy. I went with the mint chocolate chip, but it reminded me of the kind you'd find in a grocery store pint, like Dreyer's or Breyers. I'm not sure if the ice cream is made in-house, could it have been grocery store ice cream? Tasted EXACTLY like it. My scoop seemed small too, didn't even hit the top of the cone. Flavor with synthetic as well. On a brighter note, the waffle cone was crispy and yummy. I just wish the ice cream and overall experience was better as I left disappointed and wouldn't be interested in returning.

My least favorite place for icecream on the north shore. The icecream is not creamy at all. The chocolate in particular is bad the other flavors are a bit better.

It is good and nostalgic: The ice cream is delicious but is so expensive - for a double scoop it is $8.15 and pretty small - you should just buy a pint. Food is reasonably priced. The service was really friendly and fast. The ambiance is very dinery and fun - wish they had a better outdoor space. Everything but mozz sticks was good

I was visiting family in Wilmette and had an opportunity to try Homer's. I was told it's some of the best ice cream in the area. I had two scoops - Expresso Chip and Chocolate. I would give the Expresso between 4 to 5 stars, and the Chocolate 3-4 stars. The Expresso had a rich coffee flavor and large thin chocolate chunks. It was excellent. The chocolate was interesting - a deep rich dark color and very creamy texture, but I yearned for a deeper cocoa flavor- it just wasn't there.

Nice ice cream joint with plenty of seating for larger groups. They serve it to you tight at the register. If you order a pint, they'll scoop it fresh from their stock that they have which I really like. We only got a single scoop but the proportions are really big. I like the crunch from the pistachio ice cream but the ice cream flavor was just okay. Seasonal peach flavor is really good and they use real peaches. Overall, a nice place to hangout with your friends for the summer.

This place was special to me as a kid, 30 years ago. We lived in the city but a couple times a year on the way home from visiting Grandma, Dad would stop at Homer's and we'd all have ice cream. It was the only time I ever saw him have dessert out, as he didn't have a sweet tooth. But he loved homers. I hadn't been in decades but decided to take my mom over the summer and was pleased that it was every bit as good as I remembered. Amazing that anything can live up to our fondest childhood memories. AMBIENCE: ***** Still has the quaint 50s vibe. We went mid week so it was pretty empty. Quite clean. Other reviews said it was filthy but the bathroom was clean and well stocked. SERVICE: ***** The employee was friendly and when he realized mom and I were going to split a small scoop, he told us we could get two flavors which was exciting. He was quite patient with us as we decided. Others came up behind us and he shouted to his colleagues in the back to come out which they promptly did so no one had to wait. FOOD: ***** The ice cream is hands down the best I've had. And so many flavors! I didn't love the peach (which is only available seasonally), but my mom liked it. We both loved the prelines although I'd have been happy even just with vanilla , which is the base for it and just the plain parts were delicious.

Homer's has a lot of memories for some of us, so I feel a little disappointed giving this place just three stars now. The flavors are still really, really good. However, two scoops for over $8 is not a great value, especially when the scoops are generally quite small. I always want more ice cream. I wish they either offered larger scoops or three scoops for under $10. The food is ok. You really can't go wrong with the burgers which are fairly priced for their size and quality. The service is friendly. I wish they would refresh their interior though.

Best ice cream in the area. Carries peppermint year round which is unusual and open late. Can't beat that.

So disappointed! Homer's looks pretty dingy and it's no longer the charming little spot it was. But the real bummer was the portion size. When my husband and son saw how tiny my scoop was they immediately asked for doubles! The server scooped me a single and as she passed it to me, two dollops fell off and landed on the counter. She said "oops - I'll clean that up". She didn't. And she didn't offer to top off my scoop either. Tasty ice cream but I won't go back.

I attended an event that had an ice cream truck/caterer that serves Homer's ice cream. I had never had it before, and I had no idea what I was missing. I had the mango sorbet for my first serving, which was delicious. Then I said "screw it" to trying to stay vegan because the chocolate and mint chocolate chip sounded amazing, so I had a generous scoop of each and it was divine. No regrets.

I'm bummed to say that I wasn't very impressed by the food or the ice cream. I ordered the Cuban black bean soup and cheese curds and tried some of my kids' cheese fries. The soup had cut up hot dogs cooked with black beans and didn't have much of any seasoning. The cheese curds weren't bad. I'm not a fan of the type of cheese they use for cheese fries, so that got tossed out. They were out of a lot of flavors of ice cream from their menu. I got a scoop of the Reese's and it seems like it was vanilla ice cream with chopped up Reese's mixed in. There were about 8-9 young people behind the counter in the ice cream section, all just standing around and not really doing anything - like taking ice cream orders. With that many employees standing behind the counter, there really shouldn't be a line for ice cream, or at the very least, it should be more efficient. I don't think I'll be going back because I can get better food and ice cream closer to my home.

The food was pretty good, but not as good as it formerly was. My daughter's Gyros was heaped with thick sliced meat and onions and plopped into a tiny cardboard serving box with a pita that was smaller than the box. The peach ice cream used to be a favorite with actual chunks of peaches-- it's all blended now. Service was fine ordering and returning to pickup, but the dining room has seen better days. The exterior of Homer's makes you stop and wonder if it's open. The benches facing Green Bay Rd. are faded, dangerously rusted, and loaded up with all sorts cigarette buts, dried leaves, and debris. The "M" on the big marquis is missing.

Came in yesterday after my round of golf not far away. Went with Peach and cookies & cream. First time ever getting peach ice cream. Tasted fresh and sweet but not too sweet. Still summer so good amount of folks in the parlor. Next time I'll have to try some of the menu items from the grill.

Food review since we all know their ice cream is great: I had a delicious cheeseburger. The pickles are great! They might be butter pickles. My husband said his gyros was good, but he's had better. We highly recommend the onion rings! I ordered fish and chips to go. They heated up very well. I'd give them a 7 or 8 on a scale of 10. I've had taste your fish, but it would be a good Lent go to. As for ice cream, we all screamed :)

Awesome ice cream, terrible bathroom situation. For a place that has been around for decades, they should take some time and invest in remodeling or at the very least, provide toilet paper for customers.

The ice cream here is great! My favorite ice cream flavor is vanilla with rainbow sprinkles.

Here's what you need to know: peach ice cream is UHMAZING. You gotta have it. Chris - I think the manager - provides the best most joy filled service. Great experience with great ice cream, fast (given the line on a hot Saturday afternoon) and Uber friendly service. We bought a few pints to go and it was just perfect. Nothing like some great hand packed fresh churned Hugh quality ice cream. We spent $6-8/pint

The food is amazing!!! Have been going here for years and there is still so many things to try! Sometimes at the food counter, you will have to wait a bit but no longer than 3 minutes but that's the only down side.

I have lived in the city for 12 years now and always crave my ice cream place back home in IA. I couldn't find any place that compared to it or was better until this weekend. Homer's is now officially my favorite ice cream place. I don't have to wait once a year for ice cream anymore. Plus they ship! I am disappointed I didn't get more to go. I was surprised they had pumpkin still and it was the best. I am online about to place an order for my freezer and everyone is getting ice cream for their Christmas gifts this year. We also ordered food. Totally hit the spot. I had a ham sub, cheeseburger, waffle fries, and my boyfriend got a few Chicago dogs with fries. He grew up on Homer's and I will be bugging him to go back everytime we are in the area.

I returned for the Veggie Burger and Apple Cinnamon Ice Cream, and I was much more pleased with my decision over the Rocky Road. Just about $10 and a 5 min wait for a veggie burger with grilled onions and a single scoop ice cream. Apple Cinnamon Ice Cream is generous with the diced apple slices, not so much with Graham cracker bits though, but very rich flavor. Veggie Burger as well as the bun was melt in your mouth soft and even broke apart from my bun. A little on the greasy side which really would lend to 4.5/5 stars but I'm giving Homer's the edge because the service is cordial and quick. Bathrooms do need an update though! Small and wet, no napkins in bathroom available. Still a great place to come for some nostalgia and classic good eats.

The place is absolutely filthy. Broken light fixtures, rusted benches in front , parking lot in disrepair and no designated handicapped parking spots. Where the hell is the building and health department from Wilmette that would allow this kind of a place to operate that way. I would imagine the bathrooms and back areas would look pretty much the same as the dining area.

The most decent homemade ice cream I've ever had! Meaning it's the Edy's of homemade ice cream. It's ok and homemade creamy goodness, but Village Creamery is right down a few streets and has the bomb homemade ice cream. Homer's also has a bunch of food served, grease pit food. It kinda mixes into the ice cream flavors! BLekh!!!!

Their homemade ice cream is great and real (not the air filled ice cream of late). Unless it says old fashioned, extra something, home style, etc., it is probably one of the ice creams that use that new technique developed by Elizabeth Warren (I guess not really new at this point) to increase the amount of air in ice cream. Seasonal peach is great but I once asked to have their worst seller and even that was delectable. So if you are gonna get ice cream without gimmicks than this might be your kinda place. The rest of their food menu is high quality too but not particularly noteworthy.

I had no idea this place had food until we walked in. Nice large food menu and ice cream. The French fries here are awesome - super crunchy and perfect. Ice cream was very creamy and flavor was fantastic.

My first encounter with Homer's Ice Cream was at a local ice cream parlor in my neighborhood. They served "Homer's." Since this ice cream shop only opened seasonally, during summer time my go-to choice would be the blue moon and bubblegum. I especially remembered their bubblegum ice cream; there were real gum pieces mixed within. I loved the texture and sensation while biting into them! Hubby and I were running errands in downtown Evanston. After we got into the car, he pulled out his phone, had the GPS set for "Homer's," and then started driving. It was the first time I saw him being so proactive. Well, I could also use some ice cream in my belly. Customer parking is adjacent to the restaurant. I like how they have two (2) separate order counters: the left side is for the food; the right side is for the ice cream. I could tell most patrons were definitely screaming for ice cream. The line wasn't out of the door due to the temperature, but there was indeed a line extending to the front door. The flavors were listed behind the register. They were straight-forward, American classics, such as chocolate, vanilla, mint chip, and Oreo cookies. They also had the seasonal flavors: peppermint stick and raisin rum. Hubby had a raisin rum milkshake. Perhaps they should provide a special straw for sucking up these raisins. That wasn't a complaint at all. It tasted fantastic! However, due to gravity, the raisins were all sitting on the bottom upon finishing it. I also enjoyed the peppermint stick. It was so creamy and made me feel guilty. Fortunately, the portion was adequate for what I needed. I didn't order any food, but I would most likely go for their ice cream when I'm in the area.

I called in advance to ask if they could accommodate nut allergies by getting ice cream from an unopened container with a clean scoop. I was told that was no problem. We showed up that same day with a group to celebrate after a theater performance by our kids. Despite the earlier phone call, we were told they do not have access to any ice cream other than what was out and already contaminated. It was unfortunate because we could have gone to a number of other places that accommodate, but chose Homer's based on misinformation. We will choose allergy friendly places like "Scoops and Cookies" in the future.

Homer's Ice Cream is definitely iconic in the North Shore. It's a place that I remember going to as a kid and a place with delicious ice cream and unique seasonal flavors. I wouldn't say that's it's fancy ice cream or speciality ice cream but it's good ol' traditional ice cream- when you think ice cream. My favorite flavors are the seasonal ones and one of their summer flavors is a delicious prairie berry that's a mix of raspberries, strawberries and blackberries. It's sweet but not overpowering and you can even taste the seeds. I also love that they have unique quarter-vending machines. They had one that lit up that gave out either gum ball or bouncy ball and it was fun seeing kids excited about that. They also have a screen display for their menu which is unique to see because it's pretty modern. Finally, I love that Homer's Ice Cream has free parking because Green Bay Road gets pretty busy. I definitely love how Homer's has kept up with the traditional decor and it reminds me of going back in time. The only thing I would suggest is to have more milk options- they only had Dean's when I went (maybe a non-dairy option) would be great.

The mint chocolate chip ice cream is absurd - extravagantly creamy, with fresh mint aroma and earthy chunks of chocolate. Easily some of the best mint chocolate chip ice cream I've had. They pile the sundae with loads of high quality hot fudge, too.

Great ice cream. Always busy. I prefer Hartigan's for some flavors, but you can't go wrong with Homer's.

The girl scooping ice cream on a busy Friday night...I will never forget her using her bare hands and the neck of her sweater to pick her nose as she was zoning out staring into the dining area for a good 10 seconds. Then, without washing her hands or putting on gloves, she happily served customers after she came back to reality. My husband and I were so disgusted, we have a hard time coming back after that. My favorite is the banana ice cream and I'll only come back for that and steer clear of this girl lol Plenty of seating, many options and easy to order.

I've been coming here ever since I was a child. It's such a classic stop in the Northshore that's sure to please every kind of ice cream - soft serve fanatic. Homer's exterior and interior offers a sort of blast from the past, showcasing a more traditional ice cream shop design. The flavors are creative and extremely tasty. The raspberry chocolate chip is my go-to. Not to mention, a single scoop, as shown in my photo, is more like a double! Homer's is a family friendly establishment with a loyal customer base and always a great choice. You won't be disappointed! Pro-tip: try one of the seasonal flavors! They never fail to impress!!

Creamy goodness! They have a huge selection of great flavors. Peppermint ice cream is a favorite and I love when places have it besides wintertime. I've been loving cherry ice creams for a while and the burgundy cherry was good!

Got the pistachio and mango sorbet last week! The pistachio tasted more like Spumoni but still was a pleasant flavor. The mango sorbet was refreshing and did not taste sour at all which I enjoyed. Definitely recommend a try out!

I came across this ice cream place and had to try it since it's hot today and we never need an excuse to eat ice cream. Couldn't decide on the different flavors so I went with chocolate. 2 scoops for $3.03 in a cup. I later realized that I could have bought a machine packed pint for .77 cents more at $3.80. I may try that next time. Overall, chocolate was ok but I'm willing to try other flavors to see what the raves about. To be continued.

We visited Homer's Ice Cream to try their hot dogs and ice creams. I'd give a 4 for the food and 5 for the ice cream. Their Chicago style hot dogs weren't too bad, though as I was getting closer to my final bite, I thought it would've been nice if the pickles weren't too big or if the frank was bigger. Their fries were actually pretty good, coming out very hot and crispy. Their ice cream was even better - tried their peanut butter cup and mint chocolate chip ice cream, both of which were good, but I'd say the latter tasted even better for me.
