When in Beacon with a friend for the afternoon, we opted to take my brother's positive recommendation and have lunch at Homespun Foods. He knew how to influence my decision by telling me that the restaurant focused on a healthy emphasis with fresh, local ingredients. We arrived at the café and studied the large blackboard, which listed all of their unique meal options. It took us a while to finally select something, but, once we did, we were greeted with an additional delay at the register. The counter staff was slow, and their credit card processor was not working. Luckily, I had cash, but my friend had to stand there, while the cashier tried to swipe his card multiple times, finally surrendering to just manually inputting the numbers.
Once our order was "securely" in their hands, we grabbed a table in the rear garden. The patio was large and crowded, but still reasonably quiet and relaxing. However, the longer it took people to get their meals and the less they felt acknowledged, murmurs about the poor service began among the crowd. Many folks were without silverware, napkins, etc., and were clearly unhappy about it.
All of this negativity dissipated (at our table, at least), once our food arrived. My Middle Easter Platter was HUGE! It included a generous amount of pita bread, as well as their homemade hummus and baba ganoush in which to dip. Also on the plate were a tabouli salad, feta, olives, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Despite the heavy portion, the fresh ingredients left me feeling satisfied, but not weighed down. It was a delicious meal!
With such great food, one would hope that the service would complement it, but, sadly, that was something that Homespun Foods really needed to work on.
